  • The birds have been the best sonar on Lake Texoma, they know where the fish and hover above the schools of striper waiting patiently for the striper to feed and push bait to the top. Finding a feeding school can make for some epic fishing, and now the fishing is more epic than ever! You can throw top waters to busting shad or troll A rigs 30’ to catch the big fish that are feeding deep. This was one of the most epic trips ever! It started off bad, I was getting my spinning rods from my boat, tangled up in the electric cord and ended up dropping my boat and car keys in the lake! Fortunately, I was able to jump in Ed’s boat and catch plenty of big fish. We did not use the thumper or spinning rods with poppers (both locked in the boat) but I did hook 2 on the popper! You can maximize fishing under the birds using A Rigs, Sassy Shad or Thumping with slabs or bait.
Ed Musser from Ed’s Guide service specializes in trolling and we trolled Captain Mack’s A Rigs 30-35’ deep behind the boat under the birds and crushed the striper including a four over hook up and multiple double hook ups! We put some really nice fish in the boat and released several to fight another day!

Thanks Jayke! Reeling in a Captain Mack’s is always fun because you never know what’s going to be on there!

So glad I found this channel. I fish with my dad on texoma. I’ve been trying to learn how to find the striper for a few years now and I struggle. I’m getting better at finding and catching the bait though. I want to get us a few A rigs to troll. This looks like a more complicated rig you are using. Any tips where I can get some rigs like that? Also how do you know you are getting your line out 200ft? Do you have a line counter on the reel? Any tips you have are appreciated! Thanks

Hey PJ Jackson thanks so much for the support! My channel is all about helping you catch more fish, with or without a thumper! The umbrella rigs are here: www.captmacks.com/store/product/striped-bass-umbrella-rig/. I use the 4 arm / 2 oz / 9 jig option!
I use a Cabela’s Depthmaster III reel with 50lb Berkeley Trilene XL for line. 200’ on the line counter puts us about 25’. Let me know if you have any more questions! Reach out to me at thumpingupfishingchannel@gmail.com!

@@ThumpemupFishingchannel I would love to try a thumper. I’m concerned since we are on a tritoon that it would be more of a metal pinger over a thump. I dont need any more help not catching fish haha! Have you tested on any toons? Thanks

Also wanted to ask of the rod really mattered for trolling these heavy a-rigs? We have some heavy catfish rods, should I look at something else? It looks like in the video you had an uglystik tiger elite. We use medium uglystik bigwater rods for live bait, and they work great for the price.

@@anonymous_friend I use both actually. I have a big water rod on my boat. You need heavy backbone to reel in 4 overs while the boat is still moving!

@@anonymous_friend yes several of my customers and guides have pontoons and Tritoons. Thumpers work on vibrations so it’s not an issue…
