Absolutely phenomenal video for newbies. I used to fish salmon in the Pacific NW with downriggers so this was a great crossover into stripers - well done!!!
You actually don't have to drill a hole in your boat for downriggers if you have decent vertical rod holders in your gunwales. You can use a gimbal mount available at lots of places. Your downrigger mounts to it and then the gimbal mount slides into your rod holder.
Nice video summarizing and providing detail. What speed is your starting speed? I know it likely varies depending on the time of the year. Thanks for a great video!
I trolled an A rig for the first time with good success two weeks ago. I am fishing out of an Old Town kayak with a Minnkota I-Pilot. The rod I have is an Okuma 7' heavy powered. Is this to much power? The rod tip isnt very fast.
It might be fine, I would try it if it were me, and just see how it does, if you start losing fish I might change at that point if necessary- good luck!
One of the best videos I’ve seen!
Thanks, I appreciate the kind feedback!

Great point! I do not have those type of rod holders, unfortunately

Do you use lead core with your Alabama rigs?
I do sometimes, I just put a short mono leader between the lead core and the a rig
I also run them just w mono on the downriggers sometimes
How about using inline trolling sinkers to get baits down? Good vid btw!
