  • FastTracker 2 is a music tracker created by Fredrik "Mr. H" Huss and Magnus "Vogue" Högdahl, two members of the demogroup Triton (who later founded Starbreeze Studios) which set about releasing their own tracker after breaking into the scene in 1992 and winning several demo competitions. The source code of FastTracker 2 is written in Pascal using Borland Pascal 7 and TASM. The program works natively under MS-DOS.
In 1993, Triton released FastTracker. This tracker was able to load and save standard four channel MOD files, as well as extended MOD files with six or eight channels (identical to standard MOD files, aside from the extra channel data and ID markers "6CHN" or "8CHN"). It was only compatible with Creative Labs' SoundBlaster series of sound cards, which were most popular on the PC at that time. The whole editor was a single 43 KiB DOS executable.
Through 1994, the musicians in Triton released some songs in a new multichannel "XM" format, accompanied by a pre-release, standalone player. In November 1994, FastTracker 2 was released to the public, with support for the Gravis Ultrasound soundcard.
In begin of 2017, eighteen years after FT2 became abandoned, Olav "8bitbubsy" Sørensen got consent from Magnus Högdahl, one of the original developers of FT2, to create an continuation under the name FastTracker II. Högdahl additionally handed out the original source code to achieve an accurate re-implementation of FT2 in C for modern platforms with SDL 2. At the 22th of April 2017 an alpha build of the FastTracker II clone was released at the author's homepage for free download for Windows and MacOS.
FastTracker 2 has been used in the "dance" music scene of the 90's and early 00's, too: Gabber, Speedcore and breakcore producers were using it. Notable artists include Deadnoise, Noisekick, Neophyte.
    Aryx.s3m is a S3M format module. Uncompressed, it is 20.31KB in size. By k.koch 29.03.95. Time: 2:21

Woah, this sounds amazing in my headphones!! I have been looking for a "game" we used to have on a floppy in the 90's and you could compose songs like this. To my recollection it was called 'Sound' but I can't find it back. I wish I knee what it was like again, it had such an awesome version of the song Popcorn on it.

(Seagate, Western Digital, and Toshiba are the only people who actually make 3.5" rotating drives anymore. Everyone else is just a rebrand of one of them. I don't have a Toshiba yet, but I've got nightly backups across a Seagate and two Western Digitals of different sizes, and I try to put truly irrepleaceable stuff up somewhere like GitHub ASAP.)

Hi there. I think you can help me. In 90's I had a soft that plays mod music (seems like yours). And the player plays files like video music - low resolution - in MSDOS- Im trying to find this since 2000.. but I dont remember the name. We load files in prompt command like, example: soft_name.exe (space) file.mod or video_clip.extesion

I remember to typo C:\> name_player.exe SPACEBAR name_of_file.extesion (I didn't remeber extesion). After opened a full motion movie (low quality) with sound... kind of people dacing like a rave's party. Music sounds like a real music mixed with synthetized (like SEGA Mega Drive 16 Bit sound). If I remember or discover extension of "movies".. I think I can find. Came until me by recorded CD from Russia
