Your wonderful friend is getting it right,in my opinion.The thing is, I feel the same way about music, anyone who doesn't live for that moment of infinite happiness when something amazing is handed right to your heart and mind and whatever happens is not about yourself, you just know it's a privilege that this has come through you and moved you and others for a second.Its never about ego, it's about service, and if you're allowed to earn a third of a living that's a firther gift! I love watching and studying magic but never thought to perform it so I could enjoy it more. Of course those moments don't just come out of nowhere, they exist on years of hard practical self traing so when inspiration comes, you can be serene and be a constructive part of the universe, and to claim it for your personal self aggrandisement of ego is a sad loss to the force.Of course again many people seem to be exsposed more universally by a pushy industry, and many people like that- fine, they have that there, but I tend to gravitate to something different, and I have just as much right to have that sort of thing provided by any industry too so each to their own!
I happen to be one of the rare individuals who know who you are talking about. You are so lucky to have met him! Like this better without using the deck.

I first saw this move (fittingly) from Bebel. One of the prettiest moves, though I still hold your glasses adjustment switch (swapping a tenkai for a copped card as you adjust your glasses on your face) as my favorite. It tricks the brain whereas this tricks the eye. Both are lovely though.

Yo, I have something similar to this move too... But it works on reverse. So basically, you swing the card from bottom rather from the top. Finally, Now I can give that move a proper name. I called it... Croissant Exchange
In a way, performing a sleight is the same as showing or teaching. The interest level of the observer will or will not allow them to figure it out... also... nothing wrong with tutorials...
