    To anyone who dislikes Daniel's videos, why do you watch them if you can't appreciate the talent and genius that he has practiced and perfected over most of his life? I wish I could do a 100th of what this man can do. I'm much older and have no feeling in the tips of my fingers. But I still love to try. Sure, I can still fool people with simple card tricks. But I have to learn different ways of doing things to make up for it. I'm not a Magician by any means. And don't claim to be. Just love to do what most people think is impossible right in front of their faces. I collect playing cards and like to entertain people. I have almost every deck that Daniel has put out. Still looking for a few.
    Keep it up Daniel, I love to watch what you do....

    A thing I love about your tutorials is how in depth they are. Short videos with just the mechanic is like looking through a card magic book, but your missing the words all you would have is the hand images. So in short thank you and i look forward to watching more videos. I know this ones older but, still.

    This video has strangely set me on a deep thought provoking path about perceptions. I watch this and see how beautiful the card handling is. The subtle techniques are brilliantly used to strengthen the overall effect. I also appreciate the years of patience and effort and practice put into every little detail. Someone else would see this and think, “So he’s just moving cards around.”

    15:33 Dai Vernon was a magician. He was coming from the magic side of the spectrum where most peers' bottom deals were "trying to look like a regular deal" not from a gambler's side of the spectrum where there HAD to be no difference or your life was on the line. It's not you vs Vernon, it's two entirely different perspectives on the same move. For someone who practices anywhere near the amount you've practiced on the bottom deal, of course it's perfect to come up with use for consecutive bottom deals.
    Just like for someone who practiced the pass for two decades it makes sense for them to build effects around the pass. Or how coin folks who learned a really good French drop can have a completely different act from people who learned a really good Muscle Pass. Nobody's right or wrong, both CAN be right for people who are in the right buckets.

    Haha was going ask about the 5 of spades until the very end there. Another good one. Definitely going to incorporate those broken cuts. I still can’t bottom deal, don’t know if it’s dry hands or needing more practice... I’d like to do learn that false riffle shuffle though. Seen videos of lennart green doing it a lot but I can never spring the cards properly after the halves are separated.

    • @DANIELmadison
      @DANIELmadison  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Daniel Madison no worries. I have Takumi’s Lennart Green teachings where he teaches it, just have to practice it a little more because mines not quick enough... side question, would you say that it doesn’t matter how dry someone’s hands are, the bottom deal should still be achievable?

    Man you are the reason i've startet learning deceptive practises, i don't know how good I am at the moment. I have two videos on my channel about that, one is a year ago called Deal and Cut and one is a month ago called Cheat. Would really love to hear anyones opinion on my practices.
    Anyway, these tutorials are so perfect, i would really love to see you breaking down a full routines of yours, where you show somebody a trick, let them shuffle and end with a deck in brand new order and talk about it, wich move you did at the time, what your focus was on etc. Much respect man.

  • @alextrendler
    @alextrendler 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Daniel, I really admire this. I used to have trouble managing a severe OCD. It was impacting my social life and career. I started learning false cuts and shuffles about five years ago, collecting them. Keeping a deck of nice cards with me, running through a false shuffle and cut routine every few hours, has almost completely curbed my anxieties. It allows me a profound sense of confidence. Vice is part of my collection of favorites, so, really, thank you for that. --- Years ago, to manage pacing, I broke down the moves into beats and practiced with a metronome. I'm sure you're well past needing to try this, but it's fantastic advice for any performance piece. I would write out the rhythmic notation for the moves in my "etudes." Practicing this way trained me out of the tendency to rush or slow down when I throw moves that are difficult or boring. Nice, even, deliberate pace.
    TL;DR Sorry for the long comment. False shuffle routines have a lot of gravity with me.
    Good morning from NYC

      @@DANIELmadison So I am not sure on how long this will take me to accomplish the trick as a whole. But I do know the first trick I want to do. It's called "Identity Crisis". The trick is this....I force say the jack of clubs. I tell them not to show me and tell them to put it back into the middle of the deck.I then proceed to do false shuffles, and false cuts. However in the middle of doing false shuffles and cuts, I do a flourish showing every other jack at the same time to the participant, acting like I am unknowing that it is happening. Then after the flourish and cuts I will pull the jack of clubs out and ask is this your card? They will respond accordingly, and then I will start acting like it wasn't their card and then start searching for cards, and showing the jack of hearts let's say, and then I will do a complete deck switch with a full deck of all jack of clubs, and lay it out in a ribbon spread in front of them and ask them.....was this you're card?

    My Deck always slips out of my hand after about 4 consecutive bottom deals! Is there any way to fix that?

      Potterhead Whovian absolutely, aside from practice, I have some deep lessons in the Bottom Deal Masterclass, maybe I should share that here 🤔

      I think you shouldn't do a whole Bottom Deal Tutorial, just some troubleshooting!

    HELL YEAH...I'm really enjoying this ride. Learning a lot which I absolutely love. I really needed new false cuts. By the way love the idea of never doing normal shuffles. Trying to keep up is hard but if it was easy...it wouldn't be worth it. I fucking love watching your videos man. You know what's up. I'm trying to evolve as a person, a magician and an artist. I'm beginning to enjoy performing magic and I see more clearly that the people I perform to are too. I now understand that it's not about the method at all. I mean it matters yes...but it's about the experiance that you present to people. I absolutely love the VICE shuffle...it feels weird now but I know that I'm going to enjoy doing it if I keep practicing. I'm really grateful to you for teaching me a lot. Not only the tutorials but the advices you give as well. Take care man...Peace✌🏽

    Would like you to talk about/teach video filming/making/editing/photography kinda thing. Production quality of your videos is amazing. Listened to your talk at Bradford Magic Circle, how you used your phone, taped piece of sheet to the wall. Interested in this kinda stuff. Gonna make me some DIY Softboxes and iPhone tripod using PVC Tubes. It would be greatly appreciated if you devote your time and energy in this kinda things. Mad respect nad big love for my boy, Charlie! :)

      I think this is a great subject actually, there has to be a lot of value in seeing behind the scenes. My main philosophy when filming is just to be in frame with no background noise and fair lighting. The rest is down to editing.

    I don't know. Not sure I like this, seems like a lot of work to be honest. Personally I feel like this is very long for a blind cut sequence and looks like you are doing something just from how the sequence unfolds. I think it might be interesting if you pretended you were counting the cards. For example, you pretend to be confused as to whether you dropped a card (or lost one) and say something like, "let me make sure they are all here".
    Then you count as you cut and deal as if you somehow can feel exactly how many cards you are cutting:
    "(cut) 12,
    (cut) 17,
    (cut) 26,
    (dealing) 27, 28, 29, 30,
    (dealing) 31, 32, 33,
    (dealing) 34, 35,
    (cut) 42,
    (dealing) 43, 44,
    (cut) 52"
    P.S. I timed out the sequence with the first time you demonstrated the technique (about 4 minutes in) so you can look back. I think this would be a logical way to present it and something that we as magicians do (make sure we have a full deck). I think it would be cool to also be able to spread the last packet so the spectator can count with you (going up to 52) to prove that you weren't BSing (which you totally would be). I think it would fit in line with someone how is suppose to be an expert card handler, being able to check how many cards there are like that.

    • @DANIELmadison

      I think for demonstrations, a plain surface is vital, so that the visuals of the card work are never compromised by the design.
