So damn true, and this even works beyond the show, giving that at the time (at least for me), that trope of dumb characters being comic reliefs were tiring, but characters that were smarter yet charismatic (like this cosmo) works WAY better, even more compared to other series
Cosmo and Wanda work as foils for each other, his goofiness balancing out her seriousness, her maturity leveling out his immaturity. In no way should they be an example of the perfect, healthy couple. It is purely meant for comedy and humor is subjective.
@@__-fk4jz but FOP is not going to be the only show they watch. There are other children shows and movies that will show them different types of relationships that are healthy. Plus, if FOP is that toxic, a kid’s parent/guardian will have them watch something else. Don’t forget about a child’s environment with their family and friends will also be an influence on them as well. So, unless a child is watching FOP exclusively, they will not be patterning their love life on the show. There will be a few other factors that would make them toxic partners.
Wish we could get a reboot where THIS was for the whole show. Cosmo being intelligent and witty, Wanda and cosmo having a good relationship, AND THE VOICE
Considering how terrible "Fairly Odder" is from what I've seen from reviews and comments on TH-cam/social media, I honestly wouldn't mind it if they rebooted "Fairly OddParents" again in a few years or so and actually made that hypothetical version of Cosmo almost exactly like he was in the original pilot.
I actually think it may be possible, but in order for that to happen the OG series should be cancelled or end, and then let's wait around two decades to finally make it a reality
I really wish they would have kept them like this, where they had chemistry and were flirty with each other and neither of them seemed like they were forced to be in the marriage. Plus they were funny like this! Witty even
I agree they should’ve kept them like that for a while but it would’ve gotten corny after too long , ‘most couples don’t stay that way as long as they’ve been married
Phil Hartman's voice was Darran Norris' inspiration for Cosmo in these pilots. As the show became its own thing, Darran tried to make it his own, raising the pitch, but keeping the tone. A lot of voice actors just do impressions of other actors, putting their own spin on them to make them unique for the character. Hank Azaria has said that playing police officer Lou on the Simpsons is his way of a bad Sylvester Stallone impression.
If only they stuck to this. His great chemistry with Wanda, his witty nature, and his wand being a little janky would have made for a much more interesting character than the smooth brained and admittedly kinda based character he became.
This Cosmo was written to be a quick-witted and clever jokester. Why did they resort to rewriting him to be an insufferable idiot?! Also, I love Cosmo and Wanda as a couple here, you can tell they were originally such a wholesome and loving couple! WTF HAPPENED!?!

The problem is when they're so dumb that they start becoming unlikable, obnoxious, selfish, and a detriment to everyone around them, even the people that they're supposed to love and care about! Many other "Dumb" characters like Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin have also fallen into this trap.

It actually kind of makes me mad they didn’t go with this Cosmo for the whole series. The entire point of the show is that Cosmo and Wanda are Timmy’s Fairy GodPARENTS. They’re supposed to be the parents that Timmy’s parents were neglecting to be. This version of them would have sent that point home.
Omg you are so right... Like, Cosmo is actually kind of a bad influence to Timmy, and is as dumb as Timmy's parents... You are right, they should have gone with this version of them aiming the characters to be good PARENTS.
I want an alternate version of FOP where the major issues with the series aren’t present. It ends at a respectable point, Cosmo and Wanda are likeable characters, and The Rules act as a consistent rule set rather than a random chaotic inclusion to the plot. That’d be nice.
You can’t wish for it, it’s clearly stated in Da Rules! That it’s not allowed. If we wanted to live in a society in which where Da Rules don’t apply then what’s the reason for them?
I hate the classic stupid man and exasperated women taking care of him. It’s funny to see once but now it feel like it’s just the go to role. Seeing a smart and witty man is entertaining.
Hollywood couples these days tend to be very unbalanced one way or another. Either the man is constantly trying to control and/or rescue his helpless damsel in distress, or the female is constantly getting annoyed with her male partner’s mind numbing stupidity. It’s a shame we never see both sides working as a team, as it’s supposed to be
I liked it honestly. It always showed Wanda as the smart one. How she chose him over things like his mom hating her, Alejandro? (Muscle purple fairy). I think it shows their relationship better how they don't give up on each other. Plus a smart lady lead ain't so bad 🥳
Back when Cosmo was a respectable character before they made him a brainless comedy gag. Tbh I would like to have seen the series continue with this version of Cosmo instead of what we actually got.
This cartoon isn’t very old, but wow is it incredibly different from everything now. The flirting was wholesome in a way that showed mutual respect, the writing was creative and engaging. Everything nowadays is so bland and for some reason men and women have to hate each other as a plot device.
This is the dynamic they should have kept. Wanda being the more booksmart of the two while cosmo was quicker on his feet with wit. They play off each other really well. Instead they went to the stereotypical 'dumb dad' trope
unfortunately that's a staple for butch and all his creations, especially when they probably shouldn't be that dumb like Jack Fenton from danny phantom who created a portal to another dimension, with his wife's help of course. A man who can build such complicated and complex machinery SHOULDN'T be that dumb, especially since his work likely requires a lot of math and higher knowledge.
@Michael LaRose Actually I don't think Jack is dumb. He is rather absent-minded and sometimes slow to think. It makes me a little sad that slow-witted people are considered stupid. It's more like if you have a slow Internet, and everything loads slowly.

That’s kinda how Patrick was at the beginning of sponge Bob he was kind of a smart and easy going character but it didn’t take long for that to change pretty much out of now where. He still had his moments.
I mean he was still pretty dumb, but dumb as in you just can't help but think that he's REALLY trying to be a good friend. Now Patrick just has the mindset of Twitter: super dumb, but can't stand to be wrong.
I feel like this trope happens a lot within TV shows especially cartoons it could possibly just be due to poor writing or it's just easier for the creators to dumb down the character. But it makes it unbearable at times

He wouldn’t approach him like a goof but instead as a friend or even a father figure since it was obvious his parents were never there for him when he needed them. The idea of his wand being slightly janky to him being stupid is far more interesting and makes the power couple of Cosmo and Wanda that much more adorable.
Yeah, I agree, I just don’t like the pilot voice, but I enjoy everything else about this version
Or they could've just made it so cosmo had some hearing problems or something and that to be the reason he gets the wishes wrong sometimes
So damn true, and this even works beyond the show, giving that at the time (at least for me), that trope of dumb characters being comic reliefs were tiring, but characters that were smarter yet charismatic (like this cosmo) works WAY better, even more compared to other series
Agreed
But then the show would be a lot shorter since Timmy would've matured a lot faster and became happy even faster as well.
another fitting title: remember when cosmo and wanda actually liked eachother and weren't dysfunctional
Or a shortened version :" Remember when Cosmo & Wanda acted like they were in a healthy marriage."
A married couple on TV who model healthy relationships and have genuine chemistry? Banish the thought!
Cosmo and Wanda work as foils for each other, his goofiness balancing out her seriousness, her maturity leveling out his immaturity. In no way should they be an example of the perfect, healthy couple. It is purely meant for comedy and humor is subjective.

Don’t forget about a child’s environment with their family and friends will also be an influence on them as well.
So, unless a child is watching FOP exclusively, they will not be patterning their love life on the show. There will be a few other factors that would make them toxic partners.

Phil Hartman's voice was Darran Norris' inspiration for Cosmo in these pilots. As the show became its own thing, Darran tried to make it his own, raising the pitch, but keeping the tone. I mean he was still pretty dumb, but dumb as in you just can't help but think that he's REALLY trying to be a good friend. Now Patrick just has the mindset of Twitter: super dumb, but can't stand to be wrong.
I mean, even in early seasons Patrick's advices sucked most of the time.
I feel like this trope happens a lot within TV shows especially cartoons it could possibly just be due to poor writing or it's just easier for the creators to dumb down the character. But it makes it unbearable at times
Both started happening in season 4, right?
See, this Cosmo is one that I could see Wanda marrying and being in love with.

Always wondered why she would dump juandissimo for cosmo 😭😭😭
@@comeychip that's his name in english? Here in argentina we call him "Juanisimo"
@@GilliganTF2 yeah it's a pun since it kinda sounds like "wand-isimo
Even a single joke from the old pilot season is better than whole seasons 9 & 10.
Not really an accomplishment.
@@lightspeed7312 Why does it need to be?
- The animation changed drastically to what we were used to in the other 8 seasons
- The voices of Timmy and Cosmo changed to be more like their characters personality. I would have enjoyed the show more on later seasons after wishology if Cosmo wasn't force to be a dumbo who can't even hold his head for 5 seconds (wisholympics reference) as for timmy they made him more childish and louder. Not of my likeness because kids are cruelly irritating.
- The jokes were getting forced and obvious, starting to add lots of characters without a good role rather for that one episode, while forgetting of the original cast... except of Crocker
- And the creator itself... is a scammer nowadays tracing other's artwork for commissionsand if not, his style is really worse than what we saw in his shows, let's not even mention his new show of religion that isn't actually good at all and very expensive for just 6 episodes.
@@turboranger7550 Are we not going to talk about how much of a jerk the creator/Butch Hartmann really is?? He made a joke over someone's friend who suicided via gauge shotgun to the face, involving them taking their place on Timmy Turner's role, and he said that "Depression is not a mental illness, it's just lack of importance in your life" (Sorry if i didn't say it correctly, i just don't remember the complete phrase as much anymore).
@@ChxosZ as someone with depression, I can say wtf
WAIT A SECOND I NEVER HEARD ABOUT THAT, IS THAT WHY THE VOICE OF TIMMY CHANGED??
the "dumb husband" trope has been around for so long (the simpsons, family guy etc.) that this is really refreshing by comparison
