Here's a part 2 to my most popular video. I absolutely love this retro 90s art style/quality and the way Cosmo is more like a slick business man rather than a numb skull. I plan on posting one more of these because I remember there being another on of these episodes where they go to a toga party or something, but I seriously can't find it anywhere.
After that, I got enough votes from you guys to change my scope for my channel. I want to post video essays, theories, and rankings on cartoons now and I'm very excited.

0:40 one of the rarest occasions of Cosmo actually outsmarting Wanda, but it's still played very wholesomely
And one the rare occasions he actually made Wanda glad to be married with him
How do you find these earlier episodes?
@The Flying Scotsman !!! Appreciate it pal 😁
they used to really act like a married couple.
I do miss the "two halves of a whole idiot" thing
I like the idea of Cosmo's old characterization being that of someone who's over confidence gets the better of him rather than being outright stupid.
Me too
Hay I made a monkey Me: Nani?! Cosmo can do that
I honestly prefer the original version than the one we got
I also prefer Vicky not being an outright psychopath and just being a teenager who goes a little power mad when she's in charge of other kids.
Yea, he looks more like a father, but they made him so stupid that basically Timmy could parent him
This was also back when they still felt like Timmy's actual godPARENTS and not just his weird adultchild pals

What’s weird is. He was always voiced by the same guy. Daran Norris. I have no idea why he changed the way he talked in later seasons.
@@Forbiddensirenz It didn't fit the direction they wanted to take the character. So I'm sure he stopped voicing cosmo that way because cosmo was meant to be a more useless idiot rather than an overconfident goof.

Welp let's hope he won't turn out (or get censored?) the same way as his dad though
I honestly liked it when Cosmo's voice was deeper, he had an IQ higher than a single digit, and he and Wanda had a sweet and wholesome relationship.

-Elegant voice.

Man, if Cosmo were like this in the actual show... the first season aren't bad tho, especially with Channel chasers.
Honestly, watching this show as a kid I never really liked it, I only liked the bright colors. I guess it could have actually been watchable in the earlier seasons but I completely despise this show now. (the voices also drove me crazy, they sounded like they were hyped up on... some kind of drug XD) That's not the point, tho
The creator himself is very sexist and kind of a womanizer. I think in the later seasons maybe they tried to go for different vibes. I remember an episode where that little brat wished for all the women and girls, including one of his fairies (I'm assuming that's Wanda but i forgot names), to be sent on another island... I also remember an episode where the male fairy got pregnant, and I'm a little concerned why all the female characters, especially the young girls, are like dumb or mean! Like, that Butch Hartman guy must have not been very popular with the ladies in his life. I saw a video where he was kinda flirting with and teasing one of the voice actresses, and he also has the biggest ego ever rn but it's mostly about his art. I'm not telling you to hate the show, I'm just saying I had a bad experience watching it as a kid. The episodes I remember made me feel so awkward, but I feel like they were the more recent ones. (I don't like telling people my age on TH-cam, but I'm in that 18-21 age range) Maybe the older ones aren't that bad but it still makes me cringe.
yo that and the video game one those were the shit!

I grew up with another Cosmo, but I still prefer this. I think it fits better the concept. Timmy has a stupid father and a negligent mother. Wanda is a good opposite of Timmy's mom; Cosomo is exactly like Timmy's dad. Concept wise having a more smart and responsible father-figure would have been more wholesome to me
I agree the dumb dad thing was overused at that point
Casmo was much more annoying in the actual show. But this Casmo is so much better. He actually contributes to the show.
I honestly wish that contrast was kept in the long run. God damnit Butch.
Both his parents are dumb and negligent
IKR
Imagine how the show would be if they kept him like this, I wish they did.
I think I'd loved it even more with Cosmo being chill and Wanda being more in a good mood but not in a exaggerated way
I hear that they change Comso’s personality just to differentiate him and Timmy’s Dad. That decision was pointless since Comso and Timmy’s Dad still ended up being so similar with each other, but now they’re both brain dead.
But we would have never gotten mpreg Cosmo
@@VolkColopatrion and here I was hoping I wouldn’t have had to remember that.
Sorry that wish is against Da Rules
I always imagined Cosmo and Wanda being parental figures to Timmy due to his actual parents being absolutely neglectful. Overtime, they kinda abandonned this theme in place of comedy but I wished they had focused on that more and build upon it. I really think FOP would've benefitted from having an ongoing narrative like Danny Phantom but given the demand of episodic comedies at the time it wasn't gonna happen.
Right? I would imagine it would have been like those old sitcoms like "I Dream of Jeannie" or "Bewitched", but in a modern age.

*Cries about one trope just to insist on another* Like are yall just too young or you don't remember. Both parties can be not dumb and have actual personalities. But that requires good writing.
I was hoping for either that or a Bob's Burgers-esque dynamic.
I appreciate the dynamic to Wanda and Cozmo this way. The both of them being a bit ditsy creates a synergy where they rely on one another. It's a far more likable dynamic. They're odd, but ultimately good parents because they're a stable, supportive, relationship. Something Timmy desperately needs. In the official show they're more dysfunctional than Timmy's actual parents are.
Which kind of kills me inside to realize now.
Agree with most parts except being worse than his actual parents.
Guess you could say that they’re… fairly odd.
I wouln't call them dysfunctional but rather cartoonish, the bases of their relationship are still there but it's just overreacted.
You could say they're... fairly odd.
I recall someone saying the original dynamic was that Wanda was better with Da Rulez and was overall more book-smart, while Cosmo was street-smart and okay with causing a bit of mischief. As much as I love the Fairly Odd Parents we got, I do still wish this was the dynamic they kept.
It was only 3 minutes of footage shown and he’s already MUCH more likeable, this version is charming and has a nice voice and actually helps the plot move along nicely along with the wholesome moments between the two, they could’ve had a lot more flexibility with how the show would use him if they had kept this version of him
do you know why he’s so sophisticated? like the context
@@lanastoleyosubs because nickelodeon didn't time travel and drop when he was a baby
It was very interesting, in the beginning Cosmo was goofy but clever. He seemed so sophisticated yet also the one most game to play with Timmy, even while still seeming so mature. Wanda was the one who seemed almost crazy in comparison lol. Now, they’ve both been flanderized.
Cosmo became retard
Wanda became wife
I believe the original idea was that Cosmo was supposed to be more street smart. While Wanda was supposed to be more book smart. It really sucks they threw this dynamic away, it would have been so good. I honestly think Cosmo is a bit annoying compared to his original counterpart.
Yep
Flanderization implies they took something from the original.
It wasn't really that Wanda was crazy and more just still adjusting to being a fairy for kids. Which given the backstory later established, makes sense with this Wanda more than the one from later.
In the full show, it's been stated before that 2 wands are more powerful than just one, which makes sense. But does that mean that any fairies without partners aren't able to do their job effectively? Because Cosmo and Wanda's performance died down pretty significantly in the show when either they split up or one of them lost their wand, and Cosmo said that the pumpkin coach was the best he could do with only his wand, so doesn't that seem a little unfair for other kids? Like the rich kid who had Juandissimo. Sure, the kid was upset about Timmy having 2 fairy godparents, but more because it meant Timmy had something better in the psychological department rather than the physical department, but would that kid only having Juandissimo mean that he can't have the same wish capability as Timmy? Like, for example, if they tried wishing for the exact same thing that required a lot of magical energy from their respective fairies, would that mean Timmy has the advantage there? I think I kinda answered my own question, but what I'm trying to say is, isn't Timmy having 2 fairies over the usual 1 kinda unfair to other kids, not just in the quantity but quality department?
I think it’s more of a non issue since crazy wishes are a rule infraction or monumental bad ideas, like the super wishes. I don’t think any Godkid has them but super bike and super toilet were traumatizing so they shouldn’t have them either. Plus Cosmo and Wanda are “Two halves of a whole idiot” they help balance each other and make wishes better, but they are very error prone when solo. Like in the clip a vague wish of a manly costume, Cosmo’s interpretation left much to be desired.
Would you mind if I used this topic for a future video essay? I'll give you credit for bringing it up
@@Skainz69 Sure, go ahead.
I think Timmy was given two fairies because his life was so much worse compared to others, so yes he has the advantage, but simply because he was given the short end of the stick
@@Breadward_MacGluten Honestly tho, when you watch the show I wouldn't say his is worse than other kids. I mean, at least in the beginning, his parents still loved him and were good parents, they just left him with Vicky (who babysits other kids). It’s nice they’ve given Peri this characterisation now
Dang not only was Cosmo smart but he showed more love for wanda with the nicknames

They were initially portrayed as almost newly weds with the amount of affection they showed. Also while Wanda was obviously smarter, cosmo wasn’t a Moron, they were both rather naive about certain things, but ultimately they were like parents to Timmy

I love that. They’re such a cute couple, omg.
honestly, the dynamic between the three feels so much better, wanda is less naggy, timmy is less rude, and cosmo isn't an idiot, but the plot moves forward, and still has the comedic moments in it. its such a shame they went for the alternative direction
also the conflicts caused aren't from stupidity, or arrogance, but genuine mistakes, ignorance, or being too vague on wishes, its kinda weird they are more open to showing up around people though, i kinda prefer the newer version of "nobody must see fairies"
Though a problem with them always being sleuthy about it is that it made their presence with Timmy boring. Seeing them at least occasionally veer their heads from hiding made sense since they can magically become anything. Sad it just turned into them being used as various disguises.
I like Timmy being rude.
The fairies could be around people because they were having a costume party, they thought they were kids
Too vague on wishes? When Timmy wishes to be the most wanted man in America, Tweedle Dee and Dumb make him wanted by the authorities when not one minute before he was talking about being rejected by women.

Him and Patrick have the same poor development. They started off well-intentioned. Even if they weren't the brightest, they genuinely cared for their friends/family and wanted to see them happy. And even then, they _did_ have their smart moments. But as their series progressed they just became one dimensional characters whose entire purpose was 'haha look they're so dumb!!!' They stripped away all of the charm and made them borderline cruel/neglectful.
The difference is Patrick post sequel had some of his older character restored when Hillenburg started writing for the show again
I've seen this happen to a lot of characters, not even just in cartoons. Goku is literally braindead these days when back in Z he was just naive but still had a lot of clever and cunning moments. Now he's just extremely one dimensional and dumb as a rock.

This says a lot about how flanderization and bad writing has impacted shows as they run longer
It also says a lot about why Nick isn't the same beloved kids channel we used to know and love nowadays.
Cosmo losing his intelligence wasn't caused by writer's burnout, otherwise he would have been smart for the entire first few seasons, and probably even longer. That was a specific decision made early on by the writing team. I imagine it was caused by an attempt to make the show's humor more slapstick in order to appeal to children, especially considering the show was amassing a pretty large child demographic at the time.
context aside: i watched some of the very first episodes of fairly odd parents and i could immediately tell a MASSIVE difference, things were much slower paced back then and abit easier to watch without cringing every 5 seconds
These clips are from before season 1 so it’s not really flanderization. The Cosmo we all know and love was the dumb one from the early seasons 1-6. This surprisingly predates that

So do I.
1:25 where are their legs??? it looks like they are stuck literally inside each other wtf
smart? that's debatable.
2:03 this was smart AF.. man I miss witty Cosmo🙁
Cosmo not only was Smart, Also was romantic
Ikr
0:31 Timmy: Not so fast Green Beard
Timmy:Wahah
That transition from Vicky’s laugh to the horse noise was seamless.
I love the fact that Cosmo and Wanda actually compliment one another here, as well as being a good example of a loving marriage; they just really work well as a pair over all. Not like the episodes I grew up with, where Wanda was basically taking care of two children (Timmy and Cosmo) before Poof even came along.
Cosmo calling Wanda Snookie is literally so adorable
Ya know from what I remember Cosmo wasn't dumb he was just pretending to give Timmy the opportunity to make a mistake and learn. Because Wanda was more cautious and wouldn't. Kinda like real parents one is more strict one is more permissive.
I laughed so hard with the first "Hey gorgeous", this episodes were so funny
when cosmo and wanda actually loved eachother :(
I'm convinced that Cosmo is always this smart and just chooses to act dumb. You cannot convince me otherwise.
Same here

@@dustbunny6381 yep
@@Masquelle it would explain why he has bursts of intelligence in season 7
@@legendarygodzilla3577 indeed it would
The fact that every single second of every episode had at least some score music or sound effects is beyond amazing to me
I like how the reboot has only made people go back to the very beginning
This show really just went out of its way to be extra and over the top. These early episodes have so much simplicity to them its very charming.
When they predict skibidi toilet 💀
I swear, the cel animation from the pilot episodes gives this value, I especially like Cosmo's old voice
Ah, man. The pre-2000s version of The Fairly OddParents is absolutely phenomenal. It's not cheesy, it's not dumb, it's not even disappointing. The animation style is just so clever, and of course, the series itself is wicked amazing. You can't have Nickelodeon without The Fairly OddParents.
FOP is great, don't get me wrong, but I'd argue that without Spongebob, Nick wouldn't be.
He was so much better in the earlier episodes! And his nickname for Wanda was so cute! ❤️
1:49 Skibidi prediction? 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥💀💀💀🙏🏼😭😭😭😭😮😮😮😮🙇🏿🙇🏿🙇🏿
I’m not thrilled to say this but I’m old enough to remember when the show first aired, I recall Cosmo’s intelligence and found it really off putting when they dumbed him down…and that voice, that squeaky, high pitched voice they replaced him with. 😫
@@Randomperson-lc4le it is, but in the actual series they autotuned the fuck out of it
Same. I'm probably older, so I definitely remember this version. The flanderization is why this show rotted and a lot of us who grew up with this old version stopped watching the actual show. The characters really derailed. They're all so obnoxious now. And getting back to the topic of Cosmo's voice. Even Butch Hartman was well aware of that, as I recall reading in an interview in some magazine back in around 2003 that Cosmo's voice started out as this smooth gameshow sort of thing to a complete moron that he though made him more lovable. Ironically, it had the opposite effect.
I feel the same way😩. They did this to Patrick in SpongeBob too. Made him extremely stupid and cruel instead of a simple, lovable oaf.
I get that most kids would probably find it funnier to have high pitched-voiced idiots, but it got on my nerves when I was a child😂
their relationship was super loving and actually felt like and older couple
I wish they left him like this. With how long the show been running cosmo would’ve been carrying the show lol alongside Wanda and his relationship. It was just really wholesome. Even with Timmy. It actually felt like his guardian parents instead of what it is now.
1:47 not the toilet, I CAN HEAR THEM COME
Skibidi skibidi skibidi skibidi skibidi skibidi 💀☠️
As DJ Spit from Smiling Friends once said: GET OUT MY HEAD, GET OUT OF MY HEAD
Cosmo used to be sly and cunning and as the series progressive his voice because like nails on a chalkboard annoying and his personality was nothing but a joke. This should have been his character
