Great thing about punk scene in Northern Ireland, the Protestant and Catholic punks were united as one with their shared love of the music
That's awesome
@@thepunkrockreview if you can find it. There is a documentary made about 1978 -79 called Shellshock Rock its about the Punk bands from Northern Ireland at the time. It’s really good.
R.I.P Doug Kane of The Generators and Doug and the Slugz October 17 1967- May 30th 2024. Cancer sucks.
100% man, I picked up the new Slugz record today. Gonna do a stream covering that album on Monday
@thepunkrockreview Nice, I look forward to seeing it.
This is probably the best interview you’ve done I loved all the stories you both gave. I hope the reunion goes well
100% agree! The passion and excitement is awesome and completely relatable! Need more british punk and skinhead interviews!
Thank you so much! I absolutely love this stuff!
I appreciate it man, thank you! If you have ideas of anyone that would be interested, I'm 100% down
@@thepunkrockreview If you could get him Sean Muttaqi (vegan Reich, captive nation rising, pressure, violent disorder) would be cool old school LA skinhead who played in hardcore, reggae and oi bands.
Thanks grant, i enjoyed doing it, i love to meet people across the world in the scene
Great interview..I was a Mod around this time and became a scooter boy/ Skinhead /Punk type whatever people called me (Amongst other things) The whole culture of what these bands stood for sung about meant something to ya.
The Jam, Clash, Purple Hearts, Specials , 4 Skins even liked The Stray Cats 👀. I saw Green Days first London gig cost me 6 pounds and the place was half full and Rancid as well.
Never grew out of that attitude n energy.
All the best from North London
Thank you! I appreciate the audience Symond brought me, I hope I can create content you all like!
Im enjoying this video what I have seen of it so far. Met Symond a couple of times, he is very knowledgeable about the scene.
I like your energy and passion for the punk scene pal. I am going to the skinhead reunion this weekend, normally a belting weekend. Hope to catch you there next year.
I look forward to watching your history of street punk video mate. Also just hit the subscribe button. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much! These kind of responses make me so happy, I appreciate it
Symond is a legend, met him a few times always cool. Brighton and Bristol were the two hotbeds for skinhead back in the day, Bristol because of st pauls which had a large west Indian population so had reggae/dub clubs and carnivals etc. It's why we ended up with bands like massive attack out of Bristol because punk attitude meets reggae/soul culture. I always found it amazing it was the parody oi band hard skin actually did more for oi revival than some legit bands.
A parody Oi band? Was there a parody film too called Oi Tap or Skinhead Tap?.... There could be a parody film about Hiphop too called Spinal Rap.
Great interview! I love this guy!
Cool interview! You’re a natural. I remember my buddy giving me an OI! Record in 9th grade. I still remember most of the bands: The Last Resort, The Partisans, The 4Skins, Combat 84, Menace…( I highly recommend the Menace album GLC. Classic tunes Insane society, I’m civilized, electrocutioner.
Thank you for the compliment, I appreciate it! I'll definitely check out that Menace album!
💯💯💯 MAN!!! Good schooling 🙂🙌 keep bringing these awesome videos brotha!
Thanks homie, I appreciate it 👊 😎 🏴☠️
Thanks for the interview , I listened to this myself on a drive to a gig yesterday with Symarip Pyramids , didn't come out to bad, I never know what I'm gonna say, just live purely on personal experience. Symond
I thought it was great man, I had a blast!
I just came here after watching Punk Rock MBA's latest video, and you guys were sharing the same talking points he had, and I couldn't agree more. The punk scene can be a helldive, but even THAT aspect is part of the fun of it.
That dudes last video on Punk Rock made my blood boil. He's a smart dude but I juat don't feel like he even cares about this stuff at all. Which is fine, but he mooches off the title... I'm probably just an idiot
@@thepunkrockreview He's alright. He isn't really trying to hide anything, but I understand those who don't like him much. I got banned from his discord server because my profile picture was a bad guy. hahaha.
@@thepunkrockreview He's legit he's based in seattle but he's from that Cleveland crew (ringworm, integrity, one life crew etc), thing about finn is yes he grew up in the punk and hardcore scene but his education is in marketing and business, he's looking at punk from a music business/marketing perspective now, Similar to Lyle Preslar who after minor threat went on to work for the labels etc.
Loving this so far!
there is a section of Boston, Massachusetts USA called Brighton
And why do you think that might be? There`s a place in England called Boston too...Durrrrr
Coolest down to earth dude ever! Great interview!
Thanks man, yeah he was super nice! I'm hoping to talk to him again one day soon
Sorry I missed the live--enjoying the replay!
It's all good, I got some great photos to show you tomorrow
@@thepunkrockreview looking forward to it!
The other band that had a big punk hit with a band about the SUS laws was the ruts with a song called "SUS".
I'm fairly stoked to see a couple of fellas that at a glance I can see are round the same age as I am talking about the scene back in the day. On the one hand, when I see a genuine, legit punk rock kid nowadays (not a fashion punks) it does my heart good. On the other, I can't help but say to myself "You weren't there. Everything that you're doing, we've already done. Everything that you're listening to is descended from the bands that we listened to. You weren't there." The question is 40 yrs from now,are these kids still going to be a punk? Will you still be an angry young man or woman? Anyway thanks fellas.
THANK YOU For watching! In my personal opinion, just bc it's been done and just bc someone wasn't there, doesn't mean they're not punk. Punk isn't something you own, it's something you are. I mean, I wasn't there if it was outside Houston, and I don't consider myself a poser. I never claim to be a skinhead, and I listen to mostly oi! these days and put out records for oi! bands. Its about being true to who you really are. Now, I see plenty of "posers" or naive kids. Costume types. They're whatever, tho, most of them are harmless. But yes, punk will always be around and real as long as there's something to be angry about and rebel against.
@@thepunkrockreview Of course I agree with you. The divine spark of chaos belongs to everyone except the phoney. What I meant by you weren't there is that the people who weren't there because they hadn't been born or they were kind of orbiting the scene...we were there when the music the scene the rebellion....it was all brand new. Everything. Someday I'll be able to die with a satisfied mind because I was there and in a miniscule way helped give birth to the scene. Being there for the beginning is something that cannot be bought and I damn sure would never sell it. It is my Valhalla.
At least you didn't have to ask your guest to talk more or kinds pad it by talking in-between. He just started and never stopped.
🤣🤣🤣 I enjoyed this one quite a bit, tho!
The Harrington Jacket is English not American, first designed in Manchester in 1937 🇬🇧😎
Oh word? I always look for them when at thrift shops
Great interview
Thank you! I appreciate you watching it!
Simon hits the spot for Old school UK skinheads.
However Wisdom of chains are brilliant and to do a song for owners that have lost dogs one of the best bands iv’e ever seen!!!
Wisdom In Chains is a top 5 band for me, top 10 at absolute worst
A song about people who lost a dog?? Very rebellious indeed🤣🤣🤣
Another great video. Well done 😊
Thank you!
Hi very enjoyable conversation to watch. Keep up the good work! I was a skinhead from 2000 till 2004 and I could not fully understand what it would have been like to be a skinhead in 70s and 80s. However there were a lot of turncoats in the scene early 00s. Gravitating more towards rightwing politics because it was more badass and masculine away from the too openminded and positive skins and punks unity. I temporarily also took a more pc stance towards this arrogant attititude of subcultural people empowered by the popularity in the scene, behaving like dicks.
By 04 there was little change. Racist skins claiming the subculture as theirs, holding on to their negative views. And I don't blame them as a grown up person, it's all part of your life what happens to you and what you do with it. I don't see people as being racist or non racist but as negative or positive, complaining all the time attributing their problems to others or taking action for the better. Now it's great to see the skinhead subculture has been reclaimed by being positive and connecting with each other. Cheers
Cool interview, Symond doesn’t give himself a breathe between talking 😂 I write poetry, about skinheads etc & have quite a few spoken videos on my TH-cam, good to hear people’s opinions on the scene all over the world
Thanks for watching, I also talk a lot 😂😂😂
@@thepunkrockreview I noticed that too 😂
You’ve had some cool guests today man
Thank you, man! I try and keep this thing interesting and fun
Skins 4eva oi oi condemned 84
I want to go to the reunion someday.
I already got the ok from the wife to start saving and planning to go next year and film it all
You're always welcome but I my you can make that happen x
Skins Nuneaton boot boys
Great interview! If you get the chance, ask him why a lot of Oi! bands have the same font/style for their band name. I'm assuming they adopted it from Lonsdale. And ask if there is a name for this style.
It's similar to a varsity font that's been altered. As far as I can find, it's similar to a "Rockwell" font but was custom made for Lonsdale.
Also, thank you, I appreciate the kind words 👊
Those 2 make sense. Thanks! Really digging the content you've been pushing out the last several months or so. Keep it up man!
@@thepunkrockreview it was thing is some of the LDN hardcore bands such as knuckledust etc also used it for a while as well, guessing because they see their roots in the punk scene (there was always a link between the oi scene and the beatdown hardcore scene in London in particular two of knuckledust play in argy bargy for example).
Good friends of mine
Condemned 84 4eva skinhead
How ironic for Skinheads to be moving down to Brighton, the centre of the British gay "community" lol
What do you mean by this?
@@thepunkrockreview Brighton is like the UK's San Francisco, but it was also the place where the mods, scooterboys and skinheads used to hang out.
Joe hawkins oi oi
Never heard of Quadrophenia! WTF.
Nope. It's a 70s movie from the UK, and I watch almost exclusively horror movies. Maybe I'll check it out a do a review tho, I'm sorry I disappointed you
What happened to your Green Day 21CB reaction?
It got clicked by TH-cam, just like all my streams do, unfortunately. It's up on my Patreon tho
Bishops Green ( Canadian Oi Band)
Great band
The oppressed was a killer oi band
100% factual statement
Oi Oi!
When were the flight jackets adopted ?
Hopefully we will do this again and I will write down some things to ask him. This was a lot of fun
If you look at early film of the astronauts, theres one where one of the first guys on the moon is wearing one with stapress trousers . 69 was height of skinheads in UK. The moon landing the most exciting thing in humanity of the time and the astronauts every teenage boys hero
My favourite of the newer street punk/oi bands is spunk volcano and the eruptions, similar to peter and the test tube babies and hard skin sort of humour, great music although I can't bring myself to wear the t shirts yet.
Some still work in factories boys
Of course, it's just a very small percentage of what it used to be. So you work in a factory? If so, what do you do?
Fred Perry?
Oi!Oi!
👊😎🏴☠️
Not a skinhead wtf 😳
Huh?
So skinheads mean oi bands? Like crust punk?
Huh? No. I'm confused...
The exact opposite of what crust is.
@@BrickwallJoe what’s a skinhead band from that time? Are oi and skinhead the same type of music?
@sawyer_Benton The OG Skinheads listened to Jamaican Reggae and Ska then moved on to bands like The 4Skins-Cockney Rejects-The Last Resort- The Oppressed.
Oi .. or Street Punk..
To me.. always meant.. a Band with Members who had Jobs..
Song's about having a job..
Or dealing with daily life of Working Class people..
Oi Oi Oi
This pillock is a total Walter Mitty..Bravo!
I feel very American right now, lol
@@thepunkrockreview As a fellow brit I will say he's not being that nice to symon, thing is always had a good time at his events so clockwork army is open to his opinion, but he's wrong.
I tell you what, why don't you come out of your closet and meet me, even on a video chat and you tell me what the fuck you know about me. And perhaps identify yourself in the process. My life if very well documented and as I said , none of you mugs open your mouth to me in real life . Pathetic trolls I mentioned on this chat.
This is the example of the spineless trolls, all you can do is come up with some schoolboy insult. If you have a counter opinion , then go ahead, i'll tell you what i'll even do and interview with you, so we can all see your face, and perhaps you can tell the world why you think i,m a Walt (Liar) i have no idea who you are and your story. so lets have a chat, and if you can find anything to back up your accusation apart from listening to some other internerd mug who also wont identify himself
@@subcultz1073 How about the shite about finding a ss Ring on a skeleton of a German Fighter Pilot in a wrecked second world Fighter Plane you just happen to come across while having a jolly with your mates. And if you want to interview get yourself to Blackpool Walter then call me spineless.
