That JayDee, my word, I can't express how grateful I am to hear that thing again, goodness me, especially in Hot Water. He must have been paying attention to the online comments of people wishing to hear it. What a blessing, Nothing compares to it!

i agree 850 R! Mr King really listens to the fans...The jaydee is very clear and crisp! i like it better then the other basses he uses..the status jazz he uses and king basses are good ..but this sound is the best to me...

Who'da thought it?!…A bass guitar with actual BASS…Thanks for bringing it back, Mark…Hard to not suggest sour grapes but you know we've been asking for it for OVER a decade…At least you didn't sell it, so truly thank you.

I had a sneaking suspicion that Mark would use his JD Supernatural Series Bass Guitars on this tour as it was yet another milestone for Level 42 as not bands can say they have toured for 40 plus year's & im still always amazed at how much they've toured since they first started out with the original line-up , then changing to another line up & eventually getting Mike Lindup & Sean Freeman back again , to me , felt more like the original line-up...
As per usual no matter what line-up was assembled Level 42 were on tour more than they were off & this attitude has stuck with them since they first started out & went on tour & i honestly dont know how they can keep touring the way they have & they must be close to a world record for the amount live shows they performed...
As I've said i had a feeling Mark would go back to his JD Bass Guitar's as they were goung back to how they started out , their young roots as it were , & watching Mark play his JD Bass Guitar's was amazing again but i feel that once this tour is over Mark will go back to his range of Status Bass Guitar's...
Though Status are amazing basses as i own a Status Series II & a Status KingBass Artist bass guitars i still feel that the proper ingredient for making them sound like Level 42 was Marks use of his JD Bass Guitar's..
If you can get tickets then do to see them live as i doubt we will see Mark play his JD Bass Guitars & also see the band play an amazing set also is something that one cant ignore & any more tours may not be as often!..
This was a one off special to celebrate i think it was their first release of the Early Tapes Album & the songs on that album or it was another song or album but my point is dont miss out on what could be a one off chance to see the JDs Bass Guitar's being played by Mark again & boy do they sound so much better but with Marks its a case of " Each To Their Own " & he'll go back to his Status range of bass guitar's...
Its not just about his JDs as who knows how much longer they will keep touring & though they show no signs of slowing down anytime soon there will come a time when they say no more & you don't want to be the one sitting there & thinking I should have ve went to see them on this tour or the last prior to this one...
Mark playing his JDs waa the icing on the cake but in like many i was there to see them play Live & the thought of them calling it a day wasnt even on my mind that night , but i cant help but wonder how many years they will have left in them & i urge all Level 42 fans to go & see them Live if you can get tickets as the lads always play a masterful performance of amazing musicianship along with great song's & cult classics they can play as well as the one's that have become fan favourites & they are usually always in their set list...
In light of this still ongoing coronavirus stay safe and healthy wherever you are in this world...

      @Wid Eye
Do go & see them when they next tour the UK as even though I think there's a few shows still to do from their 40th Anniversary " From Eternity To Here Tour " that Tour had to be cancelled & rearranged to get the dates all moved from the Dates/Venues that were all cancelled because 2020 to 2021 if things had calmed down with this still ongoing coronavirus and it's variants & i think they started their Tour earlier in 2021 as they had many Live Shows to play strickly for Level 42 Fan's whether it was playing in smaller venues/playing some bigger outdoor gigs or sharing the stage during Live Music Festivals...
Level 42 weren't due to play in my Country & City until October 2021 but they also had all the those backlogged & booked Festival's to do as they usually go & also play in many Concert Festivals whether its jazz fusion or whoever else was playing various genres of music from solo acts to bands also playing at those Festival's over the summer period...
I too used to blame the Status range of bass guitars as had practically all Mark King fan's have but Mark wanted a bass that had everything he needed that the JD Supernatural Series range of bass gùtars couldnt , like what would become the Bend Well or Thru Bend on certain Headless Status Basses that Rob Green & Mark agreed should be built onto his at that time ultimate bass guitar which would of course be the Status KingBass Artist Bass Guitar...
As Mark had collaborated with Rob Green of Staus Guitars before he decided to predominantly use them & he had been playing a Status on certain songs on the recorded Level 42 Live Concert Album that was " The Physical Pressence Live " which was released either on Vinly & Cassette Tape first or re-released on the CD version many years later yet when you listen to that Live Album that was recorded over 2 different Live Shows & he was using his JD but also Rob Greens , I think it was , a Status Series 2 & even I didn't notice the difference while listening to that Live album...
It took a few decades to find that little bit of trivia out as the Internet would later open & the Internet was fast becoming better & better years later for information after those 2 Recorded Lives Shows joined together into 1 Full Live Concert...
Mark wanted to have a better & an easier way l bend a clean clear note or an harmonic note & if you play the bass guitar as I do (& maybe you do too) It can be almost impossible on certain bass guitars because of the way the tuning pegs have been put on & going Headless meant less going out of tune issues...
Again I blamed his then now Status KingBass Artist Bass Guitar that he collaborated with Rob Green & I know one thing to be sure & that is Yes both the JD & Status have their own unique sound but as long as you use the right amps & settings on said amp & bass guitar which was now the Status KingBass Artist & later on the Status Paramatrix Bass Guitar...
I decided 2 years ago to buy a 2015 Status Series II as I had a theory & I wanted to see if I was correct & that is that Mark also switched to TC Electronic Bass Amps & TC Electronic Pedals & he stopped using the Trace Elliot Amps & I swear to you I plugged my 2015 Status Series II Bass Guitar through my Trace Elliot Amp & my settings on my Status Series II & It sounded brilliant & Yes a slightly different sound from JD ti Staus but I'm convinced it's been Mark's Tc Electronic Amps & settings all with what he set his Status KingBass Artist too also...
Then I had a chance at a preowned Status KingBass Artist with all the bells & whistles & again through my Trace Elliot & what I put I setting to on the KingBass & that too sounded great & it's my theory after seeing Level 42 Live from back in the 80s & using his JD to swapping over to Robs Status Bass Guitars & I definitely believe the settings on his Msrks TC Electronic Amps & the settings on his Status Basses along with PA mixed through for Live Shows are the reason they sound so tinny as he using too much treble & mids & not compensating for the bass sound also...
Put it this way begore the from Eternity To Here Tour I went to see Level 42 play back in 2016 & though it was their usual amazing playing but was the first time I heard his sound sp terrible as this time it had too much bass but more like his Status Bass had been put through too many Sub Woofers & it's the worst (at that time) I had ever heard his bass guitar sound...
Put it this way if i was a huge fan of Level 42 since they first arrived on to the Music Industry & Scene & every gig I went to the basses whether JD from the original line up or Status Bass Guitars always had a great sound though I still loved the JD sound better & though he used his Status Bass the sound was the complete opposite of tinny...
If i hadn't known all of his bass lines , like the rest of the fans , I would've struggled to hear what he was playing , but what the audience hears used to be different from what the band heard as the huge speakers set up to the PA but placed in front of the band & the band would hear what their Amps sounded like which no doubt would've been fine but what the audience hear is the sound out of those huge speakers that are in front of the band & hence they could hear how they should through the PA & Big Speakers...
But throughout the years solonacts & bands could have speakers down close to the feet level , those speakers along with those ground speakers facing the band gave them a better sound & control of sound on any stage but if the guy setting up the PA doesn't get in dialed in perfectly the fan's would hear Mark's Status Bass Guitars sound weak & tinny but this was not what he heard on stage & it was the PA when dialed in correctly along with Mark's preferences for sound would at least let the fans & the band hear a better sound...
if you've ever been in a band as I was in 2 Pro bands & every member of the band would hear what the sound is on the stage but because we knew certain PA Mixers couldn't care bothering tk keep the sound the band ialled in & each member of the 2 bands I played on , we would all play the other band members instruments & each of us would 1 at a time ask the PA to dial down or up on my bass sound...
This was also for the drummer as I played the drums & the drummer would sit in an area where audience members would be so he could hear if he too also got the best sound from the PA & if not I'd play the drums individually to get the best sound sound & what a band heard was not what the audience heard as it was more powerful sounding yet on stage we thought we sounded OK but as those floor level speakers that were set up to face towards the band , then you had a better chance of hearing better & what roughly the fan's heard...
Yes the Status are not like the JD sound but they were never meant to be but even I changed my opinion after playing a Status Bass Guitarvon the settings I set up & preferred...
Fan's will always want the JD Supernatural Series Bass Guitars played all the time but I learned that Status Bass Guitars weren't at fault but instead how Mark's Status wS mixed through the PA as it was either too tinny or too bassy at certain gigs...

It might just be because of him using both pickups, but could also be the effects pedals, amps, or even just that it's an old bass now. Idk
