    I think this is the best content for stringers, really technical, details. Great job...

    I was at an IART Conference years ago (2017??), and Gugel suggested to pre-stretch all strings including poly. I do it occasionally just to get rid of some of the coil memory on particular strings that are hard to deal with for that.

      Aloha Brian,
      That's interesting. I wasn't at the IART symposium, however, there are some stringers that like to pre-stretch and some that don't think it's necessary. It comes down to a matter of preference.
      Before I created this video, I posted a question regarding pre-stretching polyester strings on the IART Q & A. If you're an IART Premium Member, you can check out the feedback I got here.

      @@AMstringing Hi, no I'm not a member of IART anymore. I remember it went on a bit of a hiatus for a few years, and I just haven't even thought about it since. It's a good community though. I remember chatting with Parnell quite a bit and getting some good tips that I am still using today. It would be nice if they did the Symposium again as I'd definitely like to go back.
      Keep up the good work with your videos!! 🙂

      I'm not a premium member either. What was their feedback? Should we pre-stretching mono and not just multi and natural gut?

      @@bbullaMay we have a takeaway summary of those Parnell tips and best practice (two knots starting crosses from top to bottom and four knots method).

      @@SimurghMyTube From what I remember they suggested pre-stretching everything…or at least that was what Gugel was saying at the time.

    Thank you for sharing your findings. Excellent job covering all the basis with the numbers. However, for me, I think the biggest unknown here (albeit subjective) is how did it play and why the player chooses to prestretch? Im thinking energy is taken out of the string and that's what the player is after? This is the unknown, since we don't know the "why" he requests this. I dont believe the numbers can reflect what the player notices. It killed me to see you cut them out 😱 without hitting them first. Again, I know this is subjective, but it would be nice to feel the difference. Nice video, thanks for sharing.

      Aloha Michael,
      Thanks for watching!
      One can only guess why pre-stretching was requested by Henri Laaksonen without asking him directly. My best guess would be that he wanted to take some of the energy out of the strings, and maybe he doesn't like how the strings play when it is too "lively" in their natural state. 🤙

    This is interesting, but misses the stress and experience of actually hitting on the strings. Prestreteching may have other effects such as skipping or reducing the break-in period for the strings. Perhaps the player feels that the racket plays like it has been hit on for an hour and achieves playing consistency for them quicker than a racket strung tighter without prestretch.

      @AMstringing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Aloha Alan,
      That would have been an interesting aspect to add to this experiment. Although a player's "feel" is subjective, finding out how hitting affected the string bed deflection and string tension readings would be interesting also. 🤙

    What happen if you prestrech by 20% on the alu power rough at 47/45

    • @AMstringing
      @AMstringing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Aloha Casper,
      I can't say for sure since I've never tried it. However, in terms of string stiffness, since ALU Rough is rated between Tour XP/Vortex and Poly Tour Spin, I'm guessing if it was 10%, it would land in the middle.
      Now, if you're talking about 20%, watch this video, and you can make your best guess! 🤙

    Pre-stretch 4G!? Yeeessh! Fun vid as always. Two questions for you Albert, saw you cutting the strings out with those scissors, what are your thoughts on doing that method vs cutting circling outwards method? Also have you ever tested the Phantom 100x 18x20, if so did you have any thoughts on it?

    • @AMstringing
      @AMstringing  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Aloha Akbar,
      Glad you thought it was entertaining and enlightening!
      As for cutting the strings out, the circle method you're describing sounds like you would be using a cutting plier. Is that's right? If yes, then cutting a main and then a cross in a circular pattern is a good method.
      Since I was using a string bed cutter instead of a cutting plier, then in my opinion, cutting them out quickly as I did wouldn't harm the integrity of the frame.
      Another method using a string bed cutter would be as follows.
      1) Cut the crosses from the bottom up to the center.
      2) Cut the mains from the center on the left.
      3) Cut the mains from the center on the right.
      4) Cut the crosses from the center to the top.
      I hope this makes sense. If not, this might be good content for a future video!
      I haven't play-tested the Phantom 100x in the 18x20, but it's more for a big hitter that wants more comfort and control in their game. I've sold more Phantom 100x's in the 16x18 model, and I probably would have played with it too. However, as soon as the Phantom 100G's came out, I switched to that instead. I like the old-school look (cross-bar) combined with modern technology. 🤓👍👍

    What happens if you prestrech 10% on a tennis string

    • @AMstringing
      @AMstringing  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Aloha,
      First, the tension head will pull the string 10% higher than the machine's reference tension. Second, the tension head will lessen the pull to reach the reference tension.
      For example, for a reference tension of 50 pounds, the tension head will pull the string up to 55, then lessen the pull down to 50. I hope this makes sense. 🤙

      Aloha, Good to know. I finally got a chance to play today with one of my racquets that I strung normally with my string setup. I'll try the pre-stretched strung racquet in a match on Saturday and see if I can tell the difference. 🤓

    What happens if you prestrech 15% on a tennis string

    • @AMstringing
      @AMstringing  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Aloha,
      First, the tension head pulls the string 15% higher than the machine's reference tension. Second, the tension head lessens the pull to reach the reference tension.
      For example, for a reference tension of 50 pounds, the tension head will pull the string up to 57.5 pounds and then lessen the pull to 50 pounds. 🤙
