    Enjoyed your travels today. Amazed at your ability to record and talk about various topics. It keeps it interesting. I so wish I was there with you but, for now I’m sitting in Indialantic, FL, on my ass enjoying my coffee and peanut butter on toast 😂. Continue onwards and forever, Matt! ⛰️🥾👍

    I'm watching you, with sore arthritic knees, wishing I was still of an age to take off. I actually live right on one of the most beautiful trails in the world-- the 900 km long Bruce trail. But I'm only going one or two hours on it and no carrying my camping gear. You're lucky and I understand your motives. Hopefully I am still good for bike trips. We'll see.

    My experience with New Balance shoes is that after about five to six hundred miles the glue that holds the soles to the shoes starts to give up. Rubber cement applied in the early stages helps them last a bit longer. I was happy with the durability they showed at the price point. Thanks for bringing us along.

    Without being able to follow a gpx of the route, each episode has turned into an enjoyable little mystery trying to suss out exactly where you are.=) What's interesting is that Gaia and Google Maps often have different names for the same road, so I'm using both in tandem. Keep on truckin'!

      If you want a good map of the ADT lookup: map of America Discovery Trail south route lewes. That guy has a detailed interactive map of the whole trail. Once you find where he is at it's easy to follow his route turn by turn. Also CalTopo has a pretty good map of the ADT too. Google Maps are garbage. They get everything wrong. I could go on about carcy inaccuracies on Google Maps forever. But I will save you from that.

    In regards to shoes. Have you looked into the shoe company called Lems? They are a bit like Altra. Wide toe box and zero drop.
    I've recently found your channel, and I find it really interesting as well as inspiring!

      @FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t believe I have ever heard of them. I am seeing a constant stream of new brand shoes being advertised or pushed via email, but a lot of them seem like they are just dropship rebrands

      @@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes yeah, lots of that going on lately. Lems is an actual company that is based in Colorado (I believe in Boulder). Anyway, you mentioned Altra and I thought this other company would be something of worth to look into. Safe travels!

    As a 20+ year user of earplugs for sleeping (especially on trail) I’m curious what you like about the Loop earplugs. For some reason I’ve been getting inundated with ads for them and admit I’m curious, but also skeptical what they offer over my trusty (and much cheaper) Macks.

    • @FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes
      @FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Curious about whether smearing ShoeGoo or other rubber cement on those Olympus weak spots, when the shoes are new, trying to really penetrate the fabric, might significantly extend their useful Altra-enjoyable life.

    • @FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes
      @FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have thought about that, but generally, it’s not like it’s one or two little tiny failure spots. Between that phone mid soul and the sides the shoes are just falling completely apart. I have a friend who doesn’t have that issue and a few of us think maybe maybe the larger size shoes are more prone to it

    • @FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes
      @FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have used whatever the Kadine tablets are. Also Aqua Mira. I never really liked either because they had a chemical taste to what is generally clean tasting water. Also, it doesn’t help with particulates in the water, which is often the bigger psychological thing.

    • @harlanstockman5703
      @harlanstockman5703 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They will kill viruses though. I used to add an organic reductant after an hour, which neutralized most of the chemical taste. As a kid in the northeast i never used anything. Then people...

    For dog spray you should have it in your hand and armed the second you see or hear a dog. Even if it's a fluffy happy dog wagging its tail, it won't hurt to have your spray in your hand. For water have you considered just buying bottled water. Bottled water is really cheap if you buy it by the case. You could jam as much in your pack as you can carry and leave the rest for a water cache. Yeah it would be heavy, and it might seem like a luxury item, but nobody ever got sick from drinking bottled water. Also it would encourage yourself to drink more to lighten your pack. Which should improve your health. It kind of sounds like you might not be drinking enough water. That can cause problems, especially when you are active.

    • @FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes
      @FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The bad dog attacks there is often little to no warning. As far as bottled water, I was using some for that last section of the CNO, but I really dislike the amount of trash generated by particularly the smaller bottled water. It is depressing how many of those I find tossed out along the road.

    • @MaxZomboni
      @MaxZomboni 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes Just pack the bottles out and recycle them. Water bottles are light anyway. I know what you mean about the small size though. I won't even drink city tap water, so I drink a lot of bottled water. I wish there were more options for buying it in 1 or 2 liter bottles instead of 500 mL. Sometimes I drink 2 bottles at a time anyway. Larger bottles would sure be easier. I'd even be happy to buy it in reusable 10 gallon jugs if those was available.

    Frustrating not to have a diagnosis but at least you are feeling better and nothing bad showed up. Did they test your urine for heavy metal exposure? Arsenic, lead, mercury etc. Arsenic could be a possibility. Sorry to pry into your medical matters but just a thought.

      They didn’t mention that. I basically just laid everything out to the doctor, had a few specific questions, and asked them to test for whatever they can think of. Heavy metal exposure wasn’t really on my radar.
