I was in high school from August of 1969 to May of 1972, i was in the marching band the whole time and our marching band used OSU style performance and traditional music as well. I think All that changed when a new band teacher came on board.
No longer a main band kid now I’m more theatre but this band always puts a smile on my face and makes me happy I did band. Always love the best damn band in the land💯
That funny, because you have the same mindset as my three year old grandson, who loves to watch the same shows over and over (and over and over). My thought is that the OSU band does the same pregame routines every game, because they can't handle a new pregame and a new halftime in the same week.
I’m from WV and don’t really care for Ohio State but that’s perfection in marching. It doesn’t get any better. It’s like they’re gliding down the ramp on an escalator or something
My selection for Marching Band of the day today, November 12, 2024 is THE Ohio State University Marching Band!!! The Best Damn Band in the Land has had an performances that have included the space station!!! They have also been doing some ice skating for the hockey intermissions and have really made sure they retain the number one marching band spot. The inspiration that they have given the squad and the state is unmeasurable! Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉😎🎶🥁🏈🎉🎉🎉
I did not attend Ohio State University, despite my mother’s claims. (I graduated Ohio U.) Nonetheless, I’ve attended several football games at OSU. The band is spectacular, as evidenced here, but an aerial shot is needed for the fantastic script “Ohio.” ❤
The view up the ramp is nice, but I like a view that corresponds to what you see from the stands. Just my two cents, the band never fails to make my pulse go up.

This band is phenomenal but as a former marching band member myself I have to say that the inconsistency of the sharp turns and horn snaps drives me insane. Some do it before the beat some do it on the beat some do it after the beat some are quick some are slow. Pick one!
Division 1 Colleges have just signed a twenty billion dollar broadcast contract. Hope Band members get pay and scholarships. Don’t be used!!! Form a Union and really fight the good fight!!!
When I was a teenager and living in Upper Manhattan I would go to the Columbia games (they always lost lol). I think my mother was hoping I'd meet a wealthy, smart Ivy Leaguer (not happening). Absolutely NOTHING like this. I'd love to attend these games, just to see what this is like.
Interesting angle until we get to script Ohio. We miss all the drama of spelling out Ohio and then dotting the “i” with a trombone player. Needed a high 50 yard line shot for that.
@@lisavandivort1635 Different styles doesn't make one more or less professional than another and HBCU bands have won just as many accolades, if not more, than some top ranked schools. HBCU bands, including the famous Southern Univ Human Jukebox, named 2nd best in the country behind OSU, and Grambling State, have been invited to play at Pres inaugurations, Super Bowl Halftime shows and other major events for decades.
I would guess many of the best African American high school band members are heavily recruited by the top HBCU bands, like Southern Univ (ranked 2nd best in the country behind OSU) and Grambling State. Some HBCU bands have won a record number of awards and, like Southern and Grambling, are famous for playing at Pres inaugurations, Super Bowl Halftime, music videos and International events.
🎉and my blessings go out for everyone who trained or supported you, especially the fans and choreographers.
Proud to be a Buckeye
Ive been there during games. The crowd singing as the band moves across... it gets me pumped so much
I appreciate they play the opposing school’s fight song.
I always thought that was a tradition throughout the Big Ten. Is it only OSU?
Tennessee does it.
@@trumpeter12400 we even do it for Michigan

I absolutely love this Marching Band 😭

So cool, and I am a Michigan and Notre Dame fan
A Tennessee Vol here, to say you people have a super, super group of musicians at "The University of Ohio"....really enjoyed this.
It’s Ohio State, Columbus. Ohio University is in Athens.
The best band in the land! OH!
IO!
a great example of subtle individualism at the start, that doesn't threaten the collective objective
I get the chills every time I witness the OSU marching band ( and I am an Iowa fan)😊
TBDBITL!!
Buckeye Nation !!!
Excellent. What country in the world has big university marching bands like the US? We set the standard.
ALWAYS a GREAT show!

My late husband was a graduate of Ohio U. Many years ago.
Have seen this many times over the last 75 or so years. Would love to have had an overhead view and better sound. It's an inspiring tradition!

Did I miss them or do they not have woodwinds in the matching band?
No, the Ohio State Marching Band is all brass and percussion. No woodwinds at all.
Interesting angle until we get to script Ohio. We miss all the drama of spelling out Ohio and then dotting the “i” with a trombone player. Needed a high 50 yard line shot for that.
What I don’t understand is where are the clarinets, flutes or saxophones? They don’t get to be a part?
Most college marching bands are brass only. You can't hear woodwinds as well unless you have A LOT.
They are solely a brass and percussion. Many woodwinds are on a secondary instrument
