The best I've heard since "The Martian" soundtrack . Paul Weir is a visionary in the creation of procedural sound, but also a very talented composer. My most sincere admiration for his great talent.
2:50 "It all started in a warm ocean, on an average planet, around an average star, in a spiral galaxy that was one among billions. Forged in the chemistry wonderland of that warm churning ocean, the first self-replicating molecular machines came into existence, and the journey of the universe to self-awareness began."
I love entering a planet and imagining that somewhere in the universe may have something like that (i guess that's the idea) gives me the creeps. I've always loved this game since 2016, and seeing how far it has come is amazing..
So I found that in the game files, this is called “Mus_Gamestart_Lushwalk” so I think the closest we have to an official name is “Lush Walk”! It also has front and rear versions which is weird.
I think that’s what makes it so special. It hits you so well only once vs the other songs, that are also good, that play dozens of times throughout your playthrough and eventually turn into background noise after the first several listens. Asimov, the song when you first discover a space station, is to me what this song is to you. It only plays once but that feeling you get after being alone all that time, discovering a station full of other beings, and that song kicks in. It’s such an amazing feeling that I’m glad it only happens once per playthrough. It would no longer feel so special if it played every time I discovered a new station or did something major in the story
Turns out that since the living ship update this track kicks in during the initial encounter in space and plays along even if you refuse to follow that questline. If you have the void egg in your inventory while not having that quest started the game tries to initiate it and basically grants you this track 'on demand' as long as you follow that quest
It plays at the start of the game. It doesn't have an official title though, I just chose to name it that. If I remember correctly that's the name of the quest you get at the start so I might've just gone with that.
You can also hear small clips of the song during the Starbirth: Flesh on Metal Bones mission for the living ship, although when you end the transmission with the living ship it immediately cuts to the “new mission” theme.
Lets hope this guys back for beyond and he has more of a role throughout the entire playthrough. 65dos are pretty cool but this is WAAAAAY better for NMS.
Agreed! As a fan of post-rock, I was SO excited to see a post-rock band getting to do the soundtrack for a video game. I still think they did a phenomenal job, but ultimately I think Paul Weir would be a better fit (if he continues doing tracks like this)
He confirmed today that he is still working on No Man's Sky and other Hello Games stuff while giving us a uni lecture! It was pretty bizarre to be shown which specific standing desk he recorded in our uni to get sounds for the game years ago lol
This is the most compelling invitation I've ever received...

I've never felt so drawn to a game because of its music. Amazing...
Playing the game in VR and then suddenly this kicks in is one of the most spine-chilling experiences I've ever had.

Yep, apparently it’s called Lush Walk. Also the front and rear versions are for the Starbirth missions.
So sad this only plays once in-game, but it's usage is perfectly composed and you're left happy for it

Nevermind it doesn't play anymore. RIP best song in the game
It plays more than once now in different areas with the introduction of new content the last couple of months.

Where did you find this? And how do you know it’s called “The Journey”?
