36 HOURS MOTORCYCLE ON- AND OFF-ROAD TOUR // TET SARDINIA // KTM 1290 Super Adventure R

  • With only 36 hours to explore the Island of Sardinia my ride focussed on TET offroad tracks. Not all of the TET tracks are suitable for large adventure motorcycles which I had to find out the hard way. However, the TET offered some excellent tracks on Sardinia and provided a completely new experience from the last time I visted the island.
    Big thanks to Luke who provided me some quick help in Rome at the KTM Rome Dealership. Check out his TH-cam channel for some 2022 KTM 1290 Super Adventure R & other motorcycle content and brush up on your Italian while you are at it

    Awesome riding and editing! Sardinia is beautiful! I had a similar situation on steep loose inclines riding ACT Greece. I found that i had more success with siting down and foot dabbing vs standing up. The front (19'') would become too upset after hitting one of those big loose rocks so i found out foot dabbing would help stabilize the bike and keep the momentum. Have you considered KTM 890 Adventure R? If you dont do a lot of 2up, seems like 1290 is too much weight and power for the kind of riding you do lately (I love the on / off road mix btw). Anyway, keep the great work! Greetings from Serbia!

    • @MotoVibes
      @MotoVibes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you very much 😉 I have considered a smaller bike for that reason but for now I am sticking to the 1290. just got a 2022 1290 SAR for next season. Most of the guys I ride with are also on larger bikes which keeps things even. Also I still ride a lot of paved roads where the 1290 has its advantages- thanks watching 😉 cheers Oliver

    Another amazing adventure Oliver. Thanks. Sardinia / TET looks like rugged country. Baby head size rocks and ruts( min. 22 ) all over the roads.
    By the way with all the rain, do you carry a Pinlock insert? Which helmet is that? Does that orange visor replace having to wear sunglasses? Does it work in fog and night? Any reviews on these items?
    Looks like you use a ND filter on your GoPro. Which one? Any good videos of your GoPro settings? Quality looks great. Not sure if it has to do more with your editing app and skills. 5 stars.
    Love getting a good dose of your TH-cam. Lots of nuggets? Thanks. Kam

      Thank you very much- the TET Sardinia was fun. There are definitely sections that are not suited for larger bikes (at least with my riding skills) but much of the TET was great.
      As for the visor - I usually bring a clear visor which also has the pin lock installed. I rarely use it. It’s just a back up. I did a video on the different types of tinted visors th-cam.com/video/b5HMFDJEqxk/w-d-xo.html

    • @MotoVibes
      @MotoVibes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As for the camera settings this video might be useful th-cam.com/video/d7eh1HCxp0c/w-d-xo.html
      As for the settings I use a „flat image“ profile on all cameras and reduce any kind of in-camera sharpening. The rest happens in Davinci Resolve- my editing software of choice

    Absolutely agree 100%, knowing when to turn around, I would argue is in fact a useful skill. Yes riding alone has got its rewards and hazards. Tremendous video as always. You should teach others the skills for this level of videography and editing, could be a rewarding 💵 side hustle. Cheers, Ride Safe and Ride Often 👍🏼 😎 🇺🇸 🌎

    I enjoyed your TH-cam videos very much. The KTM 1290 sas seems great for paved roads and good weather green lanes. Maybe a KTM 890 Adv R would be better for touring the unpaved trails in Sardinia and other places. The 890 R is very powerful and much lighter than the 1290 SAS and SAR. I actually don’t have a motorcycle right now, but a 890 R would definitely be my choice for all roads. I understand that as a TH-cam content provider, you are obliged to carry many kilograms of camera equipment including batteries cables and at least one drone.
    Thank you for carrying the camera gear and sharing your experiences for me and many others who watch from a couch 😊

    • @MotoVibes
      @MotoVibes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you very much Michael. I did look at the mid-class adventure bikes and somewhere down the road I may switch to a lighter motorcycle if I keep riding roads like this. I do like the long distance comfort & the power the larger adventure bikes provide even at the cost of the extra weight for the moment. Also, all my riding buddies have larger adventure bikes - I guess if I was the only one on a larger bike things would be different.

    Meine Regina Kette hält jetzt schon 30k. Ich spanne sie aber auch mindestens alle 10k. Man darf nicht vergessen das sich die Ritzel auch abnutzen und die Kette sich auch ein wenig längt, zum glück aber nicht soviel wie die Serienkette!

    • @MotoVibes
      @MotoVibes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Meine war nach 20k km schon (dicht) am Ende - nach 25k km hab ich dann gewechselt. Die ersten 10k+ liefen ohne Schmierung und dann hab ich in langen Intervallen auch die Kette geschmiert (entspr. der aktualisierten Anleitung von Regina). Ich hab sie dann ein 2. Mal gekauft aber werde wohl in Zukunft auf eine normale Kette in guter Qualität setzen.

    Clever decision there on turning around, especially alone and with no traffic coming through.
    I have a question regarding the maintenance-free-chain: Would you still recommend it despite the early wear? And do you expect it to last much longer? I will have to change my current chain set with the 30k service in March/April and Im seriously considering at least giving it a try

    • @MotoVibes
      @MotoVibes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you very much Stephan - I bought the Regina chain a second (it was basically dead after 20k km) time but I cannot recommend this chain at this point and I will not buy it again. I had a feeling the marketing of a maintenance free chain could be a bit exaggerated and it was. They are onto something but did not take the design far enough - if they would also coat the pins and get rid of the permanent lubrication they may get a bit closer to a truly maintenance free chain some day.

    Rly enjoying your movies, one thing that would make them 50% better would be to move your main camera to center of your helmet. ( reason is i am falling off the bike evry time you lean out to show a better picture :p )
    when it get rly slipperi or mud, i gees one need real off road tire to get anof grib, also abit less air in the tirres will help on gravel/stones.
    Better safe then sorry ;-)

    Yo también tuve la 1290 adventure, pero para el offroad demasiado peso, ahora tengo la ninja 1000sx para el sport Tourer, y el circuito de velocidad y también tengo la KTM 390 adv, para el off Road No enduro, y se porta de maravilla, aunque me encantaría que sacasen la KTM 690 adv , pues sería la moto perfecta para 50/50. I used the aftermarket BMW cradle (which was already available for the Navigator 4) and mounted it to the GPS mount which you have to buy extra (mine is a CNC aluminum part but with the same 4 mounting points as KTMs powerparts) - search for GPS mount for your bike and you will find it.
