  • In this video, I show you a guitar with a fat, sweet sound that I just bought and am putting up for sale. This Guild X-150 D Savoy was made in Westerly, RI in the late '90s. It has several cool modifications that add to the sweet sound! The Bridge and tailpiece were replaced. The bridge is a Graph Tech Resomax Archtop Bridge and the finger-style tailpiece got rid of those ghost tones from behind the bridge and helped with the sustain. You'll notice in the video that the original tailpiece was off center by about a 1/8th of an inch. The new tailpiece has been perfectly centered. The Grover Rotomatics have been replaced with a new Grover set with the stairstep buttons to continue the Art Deco motif of the pickguard and tailpiece. I love the way this Guild archtop sounds and feels. Let me know if you like it. Please leave me a comment and thanks for watching!

Going through a rough patch lately health-wise, it's causing me quite some anxiety, I've been sitting on hot coals for weeks. And then you started playing that beautiful finger picked piece. I could actually feel the music washing the anxiety off of me. Thank you, sir!

Very nice instrument. There are very capable makers out there.

The Graphtech Resomax bridge does add some warmth to it, too and the intonation is spot on.

I really love that tone! Rings like a bell. Lots of gorgeous clarity of each note during your fast passages - handles your articulation so nicely. Can't believe Guild messed up the original tailpiece mount, but love that fingered tailpiece upgrade. Fits it well, like it came with the guitar originally. But it's that sound that I'll remember on this X-150 D. Not usually into "D's" since I never play the treble pickup on an archtop, though they're good for country and rockabilly, I spoze.

Thanks Rich, I would really love to hear you play some jazz on the amazing Ibanez LGB30 jazz guitar. The special guitar that George Benson commissioned Ibanez to make. LGB (Little George Benson). Many thanks, John from Nottinghamshire, UK (The Land of Robin Hood). God bless and thanks for playing Blue Moon which I recognised immediately.

Beautiful tone AND playing, as always! Kudos Rich 👏 Guild builds some amazing instruments, I think I would put this X-150 D on my Wishlist if only I didn't live so far away (Australia). The person who did these mods had really good taste...
Q: are you using your custom set of strings on this one? Thanks in advance!

Hey brother how much do you want for it? I think the Gibson Citations have the same tailpiece but I heard they can be problematic? That's what I heard but I'm not sure. Let me know about the price. Thanks! Nice playing btw!

I had a Gibson Howard Roberts Fusion lll that came with the Fingertailpiece. No problems in whatsoever. I had to sell it because I was young and needed the money. Sh*t happens...

@@alanblakeguitarist Not only that. I lost 19 guitars (out of 20) in last year's devastating Wooroloo Bushfire,. now I have acquired a handful of guitars (one of which is a Guild Bluesbird). That suffices me...(says he...)!
