  • Using our Royal Enfield 350 Hunter test bike, we carry out some dyno tests to see what effects the fitment of the DNA Combo kits have against the standard air filter setup. Results are measured on our chassis dyno showing a before and after fitment in the same conditions. All kits are available through our website on the links below:

@@johnrocker2986from what I understand, after replacing the filter assembly, the engine should be idled for 10-15 minutes. This allows the airflow sensor to adjust to the increased airflow, which is done by the ECU, and confirmed by the oxygen sensor. This is a remap of the ECU. The limiting factors are the output of the injectors, and the flow of the exhaust. I’m thinking that the engine in stock state of tune, may have that extra 10% available with just the air filter mod. Beyond that, a longer duration cam, modified exhaust, and higher output injector would be necessary. But I’m sure that improved throttle response would be the main benefit of this kit.

I fitted a DNA filter to my Super Meteor 650. The instant most noticeable factor was the throttle response which was so smoother and accelerating especially in 5th and 6th gear from a low MPH there was no need to keep changing down a gear to get throttle response. The added noise was noticeable but became normal after a few miles. Undoubtably the best mod I could have bought from you for the Super Meteor, money well spent 👍 Also with the new 20MPH laws here in Wales the bike is easy to ride at lower speeds !! Great video 👍

Placebo works as expected LOL If you fit high flow filter w/o any fuel mixture tuning (which you cannot do easily in Euro 5 bike and you have Meteor 650 which is E5 :D) than it goes actually way leaner and I do not know where your imagination gets that "smooth throttle". The bike instantly becomes "ill". I am living near the mountains. And each time I went up there I had "engine light" ON. The only easy way to fix the problem and to really feel the difference is to buy Fuel X Pro E5 and use at least 5th map on it. Or to sell your E5 bike to another placebo adepts out there and get yourself easy tunable E4 one instead :D

Good to see the engine on a dyno, but come on guys, you didn't show any AFR info the most important aspect of tuning. What we really need is this airbox mod, an open pipe and an AFR corrected remap. Surely that can be done? OK, the ECU is locked but that doesn't stop any of the thousands of other vehicles being remapped with the right tool. I bet this engine could achieve at least 2-3hp in the right hands and the speed limiter removed. We don't want 90mph, just smooth torque up to 80mph tops with easily reached 70mph cruising. 😀👍

I was thinking that the new Triumph speed 400 is 40bhp, then it might be feasible to poke the Enfield up to 30, even though it's air-cooled and just 2 valve. Even if that was possible though, the cost is looking prohibitive, and it's making it close to the price of the Triumph anyway. So the common sense choice has to be the Triumph, which has a better spec, handling and suspension. Ultimately, for me, 20bhp just isn't enough.

@@turboslag I sat on the Triumph 400 speed, it felt exactly the same height and width as the Enfield, much softer rear suspension but only a side stand. I liked its service intervals being every 10,000 miles through being water cooled. It requires higher revs for the torque when the Enfield develops it earlier and is more forgiving through the gearbox. The Triumph comes with good reviews but speaking to a Triumph owner 'they' said they have had issues with Triumphs unlike nothing with the Enfields. The Triumph does look a nicer motorcycle but costs quite a lot more. At the end of the day, it's what you prefer.

The airflow sensor just sends a different flow reading to the ecu, which adjusts the fuel mixture. My concern with oiled filters is that fine bits of oil can accumulate on the airflow sensor which can affect its function, and sometimes cause it to prematurely fail. K&N filters do the same thing. I only run the oiled filters on carbureted engines, as that oil won’t ruin the carb, like it can on a hot wire MAF sensor.

I have a Meteor 350 and my commute involves 20 miles of dual/triple carriageway A-roads. Fitting the filter plate gave it more top-end grunt. Acceleration from 60 mph was notably improved and holding speed up inclines or into headwinds was far easier. The bike will reliably hit the limiter at 75mph whereas before this was very wind dependant. That said, if you are a B road Sunday rider I don't think you'll see much benefit. We are not talking jet turbine air inputs here, the risk of picking up any damaging particulate matter to get into this engine is nil. If riders are really worried, fine legging covering the hole will suffice. Very small particulates will not damage this engine as some 'high performance' engines have straight through venturi. The absence of an air filter will increase its lower end horse power and is a saving of £94. Electronic fuel injection will supply the correct fuel amounts.
