Finally not sponsored, no marketing BS video, where pro talks about important observation, unlike rest of popular blah-blah reviewers on TH-cam. Good job sir!
I don't know if it's a good or bad thing but I don't watch a lot of reviews from others On Tools. I prefer to buy myself and see what I think about them. Sponsored videos are not bad as long as the person gives their true opinion regardless. I have had some companies send me tools, but any video I put out is 100% my opinion. The only thing I have done different on a sponsored video is gave the company the option of me not doing a video if I didn't think it was a good product.
Nice job with the review! Thank you for taking the time to test and post. I have been wanting that Bosch for a long time. I've been waiting for the price to come down. As of today, Saturday after Black Friday, its at $549. But I didn't know it didn't have a shadow line or laser. So I'm rethinking it now. Thanks again for posting!
Before purchasing the 10" Bosch Glide, I did lots of video watching and reading forum posts. There were some claiming there's too much deflection and I thought there had to be something going on. Got mine, gave it a once over to verify the factory setup and its been excellent. What your video shows is, someone has to be either intentional with the deflection or just so ham fisted with technique that it creates deflection. Keep a smooth front to back arm movement and it'll be good.
I just bought the RIDGID 10” Sliding Miter Saw - R4241, for $219 at Home Depot during their Spring Black Friday sale. 49% off. At that price it was WAY worth it! Aside from the deflection, both saws are pretty damn close, so the LED cut line and butter smooth operation sealed it for me. I typically do not rush my cuts so I’m not very concerned about deflection impacting my accuracy.
Good review. I saw another review showing deflection as an issue for the Rigid, but your review compares it to the venerable Bosch, and that was a big help. I really want an LED (and reduced rear clearance), so I will keep looking. Thanks!
Nice, very detailed review, one of the best I have seen. I checked both, I ended up buying the Bosch because the refinement was not even close - not for the price. I agree with the lack of a shadow line on the Bosch - I ended up making my own, which works fine - which pisses me off because the very same saws sold in Asia and Europe do come with the shadow line and a much better wood holder. Bosch international makes decisions that are just infuriating. I am going to be buying the cordless 18V Bosch version (Which comes with laser lines) and take it to Greece (Where I spend three months every summer) because in Europe they go for over $1200! Good review, keep it up.
I just got the Bosch recently and accuracy was my main reason for purchasing this. Prior to the Bosch I had the Metabo slider 10" and I wasn't overly impressed. After less than a year I noticed wearing on the slide bars and increased blade deflection at full width cuts. I looked at the Dewalt, Delta, and Ridgid before I bought the Bosch. Despite no shadow line I'm very happy I chose the Bosch. If I want to I can add a shadow line without sacrificing accuracy. It is however a bit on the heavy side but I use it primarily in my shop and only move the saw and stand a small amount depending on what I need to cut
The easiest would be just putting in a led like I did in the video I made for the Bauer. With that, you have to put in an AC to DC power adapter as those leds run on DC power. I want to add something like this so I can use a bulb with the power adapter built into the bulb. amzn.to/3NMefXU
Wow was just wondering about both of these, I'm in the market so I'm obviously check-in vids out...super fair review...I'm on the fence bout both of them lol..the Bosh just looks super well built...thank you for your time...
I enjoyed the comparison very much. I bought my Bosch 12” about three months ago fromHome Depot with special payment terms. I is the best equipment in my arsenal. The right tool for the right price and the best terms. It is extremely accurate. I no longer need my radial Arm Saw now.
Probably the best side by side comparison I've ever seen, thanks! Wish it could have compared the Bosch to the DeWalt but this still helps me confirm I want the Bosch. Great video!
Great video! I really like your knowledgeable, no nonsense style of presenting. I have had my Bosch 12 inch miter saw for several months now, and I have to say, I pretty much agree with everything you noted. I do miss either a kerf llight or a laser, but I think I will add the shadow line light with an aftermarket model. other than that, it’s hard to imagine a better compound miter saw. Thanks again for the great video.
Thanks for a great comparison video. However, I opted for the 10" Rigid which I got for a steal price of 219 from my local Home Depot. It was the last one they had in stock. I also love the shadow line which was one of the reasons I went with the Ridgid. I haven't noticed any issues with deflection. I don't yank of the handle when making a cut as I am not building fine furniture. A few thousands of an inch doesn't seem to make much difference to me in any case. In addition, Delta has stated that they have addressed the deflection issues that people mentioned with the newest batch of gen 2 saws.
I have wanted a big miter saw for a quite awhile. About 2 weeks ago I was at Home Depot and they had the 12 inch Bosch glide on sale for $330. I asked if that was mistake and the guys said no, they were probably coming out with a new model and were having these on clearance to move them. Needless to say I bought it right there on the spot. After watching the comparison, I do believe I made a good decision. Thanks for the reviews of both. I really never considered the Ridgid though I have a 3 or 4 Ridgid tools.
Bosch's lack of a shadow line was the deal breaker for me. I went with the Delta Cruzer. (It was on sale at Amazon for less than $400 at the time, which helped!) As for the accuracy question, I rationalize that both saws cut very accurately if you use proper technique. You can pull either saw off line, but it appears it's easier to pull the Ridgid (or Delta) to one side or the other. Besides, when I need maximum accuracy, I either lock the arms so the head of the saw just pivots up and down (which virtually eliminates deflection) or I use my table saw.
I felt the same way. I caught the Bosch on sale and figured I could sell it and get my money back. After testing it, I realized how much easier the Ridgid was to get deflection. I have only had a couple of times last year when I found cuts out of square. I was not sure if it was deflection or if I didn't have the board against the fence. I was surprised at the difference between the two saws. I will definitely be adding a shadow line to the Bosch.
the Bosch that comes to the US doesn't have the laser, yet the ones come to the UK, Europe and Middle East have a double laser with the exact size of the blade
@@ShopRamblings @ShopRamblings I know why, 40 years ago even longer than that 90% of the tool company made there headquarters in a us state which I totally forgot it's name right now, because this state gave them 30 years tax free on tools, yet this state had one of the most strict laws about safety in the US, because this Sate faced a lot of problems between blacks and white back in the 40s and 50s, anyways so with lots of restrictions the laser can't be built in the tool but the good news the tools tax free time given has ended 3 yeats ago and most tool companies are moving their headquarters to different states now, so in the future that won't be a problem. I have a Glide. And I would never use a shadow line for anything for more than framing or rough deminsions. The rest of the time "for longer material I can get on my table saw" I just slowly sneak up on my knife line. Never used the other two saws!
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I've been considering replace my traditional Ridgid 12" with this new style so I could move it closer to the wall but considering the deflection inherent in the design, I'm inclined to stick with what I have. Keep up the great reviews!
I just picked up the 10" Rigid for $219 at Home Depot. Apparently every now and then they let some go at that price. I am hearing the same deal all over the US. Keep an eye out. Love mine!!
They will be out of stock for months. Then they will get them and discount them. The 12" goes for around $360. I had gotten both for around $600. I made a couple of videos. Used one for a year or so. Put it on marketplace and sold the same day. In all, it may have cost me $60.
Thanks for this comparison! Great review. I was lucky enough to have picked up the Bosch several months ago at Lowe's at half price ($325). Couldn't pass that up. Just a couple comments: 1) I believe there is a stiffness adjustment for the bevel in the back. 2) As another commented pointed out, the European Bosch version has a shadow line. I ended up following a video by Drew Fisher of Fisher's Shop (no relation) where he installs a simple shadow line. I took it another step and wired it with a switch to the saw's power and added the light switch into the saw's handle. A little work, but fun and it's sooooo much nicer now.
Get video, do you know how close I can keep to my back wall. I am in the planning stages of building a miter station and only have an overall depth of 24”. Thank you
I can now build a proper miter station. I had to keep my old saw on a stand so it could be moved. I am going to set the saw into the wall so the station will only have to come out around 16"-18".
Great review, just what I needed. Ended up going with the ridgid because of the shadow light. With proper form and going slow on cuts, deflection can be minimized. Additionally, 90% of the cuts I make are not extended and in the fixed position from which there is considerably less deflection. Besides if precision is critical I’ll probably take it to the cross cut sled on my table saw. Price helped too, snagged the ridgid 12” for $399 at Home Depot
Well the brand new Bosch has better sight for sure I’ve checked it out in stores. I’m Bosch everything and it all started with their drills that way half the weight of anything else but have better consistent power. Love them
I had the Rigid and sold it for the same reasons you showed. Deflection at the end of the travel (and dust collection.....which sucks on ALL CMS). Just do not have a compound miter saw in my shop. Most cuts can be done on the table saw although not as convienient.
The question is, why were you having trouble getting 90⁰ cut. I was able to make 90⁰ cuts with both saws. The Bosch is easier to get 90⁰. Is the issue the saw needs to be squared where it makes the same cut every time but is not 90⁰ or does it cut different angles?
@@ShopRamblings when I pull out the saw, the less square it gets. It gets worse the more I use the bevel and bring it back up. I’ve tried to fix it multiple times but I don’t know why it’s not square. The way Bosch has it where I need to go to the back and adjust it is really annoying and wish there was a way to “lock” it into the right spot
I have the Ridgid. It's a good saw...for the price. I got a great deal on it from HD. I do love the shadow line. It does take more finesse to make a true cut, but I don't really rely on it for spot on accuracy.
I used it for about a year. I liked it but would get in a hurry, and the next thing I know, I would get a cut off. I sold it for $25 less than I paid for the Bosch. Once I add a shadow line, I will have the best of both saws.
I added an Oshlun LG-M01 Laser Guide for my Bosch miter saw for about $31 and it works perfectly. Only marks the left side of blade but that's about 95% of the cut position I use. I've owned a couple of these saws since 2011 and would not buy another brand with what is currently offered. The Festool has more bells and whistles but it's more than 2.4X the cost of the Bosch. The Bosch is the best for the money and if you have a Menards in your area, they often are $577 with the 11% rebate, which has been running for most of 2024. I also have the fixed base Bosch miter stand, which is much more stable than the gravity lift portable stand and has 6' extensions on both sides of the saw, which is longer and more rigid than the gravity stand. Cheaper too. I took my old gravity stand and mounted a cheap Metabo 10' miter saw on it for when I need to take it to a job site. If you want a longer fence, I replaced the Bosch fence with 3" x 36" long multitracks on each side. By adding a POWERTEC 71119V 36 Inch Double-Cut Profile Universal T-Track with Predrilled Mounting Holes under the multitrack, I can cut thin stock without it slipping under the 3" multitrack. Added additional bracing for the multitrack off my dust box I made, but that's another story. I have almost zero dust with my dust box connected to my 6" DC.
Nice comparison. I really liked the test for deflection. One thing I learned was how easy it was to influence the cut by standing to one side or the other when pushing the blade through. I was wondering is that the 10-inch Bosch model or the 12-inch. Personally, I would like the 10-inch version as I just don't need the greater capacity a 12-inch saw offers.
Both were 12". I had compared the 10" and 12" Ridgid in another video. As most features on both saws are the same with the exception I pointed out, they should be simular on the Bosch
I have the Bosch and love it. Came from a kobalt which was awful and couldn’t cut 90 degrees. I wish it had the shadow line, and plan to install one. Though I can’t decide if I should install as a separate device and power, or integrate the power and switch into the bosch’s handle like another person showed online.
I have a few ideas that I would like to try, but unfortunately, I have not had the time to do so. ⌛️ If I am able to come up with a good system, I will post a video. 🎥
A viewer shared the model number for the UK version of the product. 👀 According to them, it comes with a dual laser similar to the Kpex. 🤔 I will investigate the possibility of obtaining the missing components or adding an E12 bulb base and using an LED. 💡 I will need to assess the available space to determine the feasibility of these options. 🤔 #DIY #ProblemSolving #StayTuned
I remember when I was trying to justify spending money on the Chicago Electric. As my skills have progressed, I can justify spending more for a more accurate tool. One day, I hope to progress to the Kapex level.
I have the HarborFreight Hercules HE-74 which i absolutely love even more so for only $299. It has the shadow light which is great especially as our eyes get older. Now, I have the same necessity of getting a zero rear clearance so I’m looking to get a new one like the Bosch which I am sold on so far. The only other one I would consider although much more costly is the Makita. It has the slide bars but they are in the front which is a slick idea thereby giving you the zero rear clearance option. Have you considered doing a video on that saw?
I got both Ridgid saws on sale. I forgot the exact price, but the 10" was around $250, and the 12" was $350. I also got the Bosch on sale for $320. I have never seen the Makita anywhere close to that price. Unless I catch on on sale or my channel gets bigger, I don't see me buying one.
Great comparison, thanks. I've been looking at the 10" Bosch. It's a real shame there's no shadow line; hopefully they will refresh this model soon. The deflection on the Ridgid is absurd, but I'm not happy about the amount on the Bosch either (I do more woodworking than construction). I have a crappy Ryobi and want to upgrade because the deflection is so bad. Even if your pressure is perfectly straight down, the blade will wander - maddening! I can get better cuts with a circular saw and a rafter square. Maybe I'm expecting too much, but I fail to see the point of a miter saw that can't reliably cut miters. Maybe I should try a non-sliding model, or reconsider my need for a miter saw altogether. :D
I definitely could not do without a miter saw. It is second only to my table saw. But you do need to depend on it being accurate. I had the power 10 sliding miter saw and it was the most accurate out of all of them. It could cut the widest board, even wider than the 12 inch Bosch or rigid. But it was almost 4 foot from front to back. It just did not fit where I needed it to go. They not sliding will be a lot more accurate. However a 12-inch non-sliding can only cut about an 8 inch board. I am happy so far with the Bosch and will be much more pleased once I get a shadow line at it.
How is the Bosch saw for keeping clean..as far as the joints that move.? Im so tired of the rails getting clogged with saw dust is this mechanism better
Miter saws have to be the worst for dust collection. A miter station with better dust collection is on my to do list. These are sealed bearings and I have never clean them. About once a week I open the doors and blow everything of with a leaf blower.
Great review. I am curious about the deflection test. You have come up with an interesting way to test for deflection. Have you accounted for any difference in the blades? It would appear that the blade deflection is contributing or what is actually being measured. It also looks like you have two different blades on the saw. The Bosch blade does not appear to have the same level of burnishing on it. This might contributing to the chip out difference? I do not own either saw so I don't have a dog in the fight. I also own both Delta and Ridgid equipment. Again, thank you for the comparison.
I am not sure what difference the blade makes with the saw off. It is the arm moving that is causing the defection. I tried to make sure to measure the same distance from the fence and the arbor using the same amount of force. How would you have tested it?
Thanks for the review. Is there a price point where you would buy the Ridgid instead of the Bosch? Say the ridgid was 100 less, would you then buy the ridgid instead of the bosch?
I just got the R4251 from Home Depot for $199 on clearance. Wasn’t planning on buying a new miter saw, but for $199, how could I not? Doesn’t seem to have very great reviews, but I venture to say those reviews would be much more positive had they been at the $199 price point so I’m happy with my purchase.
They were out of stock for several months. Then they came back in stock, then gone again. I think they buy container loads at a time but only get shipments every few month. The best way is to sent an inventory notification.
I've had several Bosch saws over the years. Id pick that over the HD/Delta all day long. A buddy has the HD.. its like comparing a Chevy to a Toyota. For retirement i treated myself to the Festool.... its far too expensive but.... it beats the Bosch...all day long
The arbor size is one inch. This is consistent across various brands such as DeWalt, Makita, Rigid, and Bosch. I have personally purchased 12" saw blades from reputable retailers like Home Depot, Lowe's, and Ace Hardware without encountering any issues related to arbor size compatibility.
I meant to ask if it would cross cut a 2x12. I guess I fat fingered something. Who knows. Thanks for the reply. It’s hard to find the 12” Saw. I found the 10”. If the 10” it can’t cross cut a 2x12 than I’ll have to look at something else. It seams like its right on the border to be able to. Sure hope so because it seams to be a really good saw.
The reason I bought the Ridgid was I got it on sale. About a year later I got the Bosch on sale for about the same price. Having both it was a difficult decision on which one to keep. I think both saws are good saws. I really miss the shadow line from the Ridgid. Once I get one installed on the Bosch I will be a lot happier with the decision to keep the Bosch.
@@ShopRamblingsgotcha! Thanks for the video & input! I think I may go with the Bosch simply for the accuracy, and if a shadow line could be added later it doesn’t seem like the Ridgid really offers much more (other than the savings)
This style saw has been out on the market for years now and for the interest of continuing quality improvement you better not be holding your breath. 😂 I don’t know why tool manufacturers can’t or won’t build something that craftsmen demand as a basic function such as repeatable accuracy, durability and ease of use? They all seem to lack respect for the end user of their tools.
@@jdw6727 Wish I could tell you exactly but I'm unable to identify the exact part I used. If memory serves it was from a sewing machine light I bought off Amazon. There is another TH-cam video were someone else added a shadow line light to the 12" Bosch glide using the light salvaged from a sewing machine light. Perhaps you can find the details there. Good luck.

I got the same deal at Lowes. I still need to add the shadow line.
Get video, do you know how close I can keep to my back wall. I am in the planning stages of building a miter station and only have an overall depth of 24”. Thank you
It needs less than 1in. If you want send me your email and I will send you some pictures of my miter station.
Thanks for the review. I am looking at the Bosch vs. Delta too. That dern Dewalt just takes up too much rear clearance.
It was a hard choice. I still don't know if I made the right one for me. With what you do, it sounds like you made the right choice
Well the brand new Bosch has better sight for sure I’ve checked it out in stores. I’m Bosch everything and it all started with their drills that way half the weight of anything else but have better consistent power. Love them
Thanks for sharing
Consider adding the aftermarket laser device that goes on the arbor in place of the washer. It seems to work well on my older saws and less than $30.
I bought one of those. It works for one side of the blade. I can make a shadow line. I just have to find the time. It should not be to hard.
I had the Rigid and sold it for the same reasons you showed. Deflection at the end of the travel (and dust collection.....which sucks on ALL CMS). Just do not have a compound miter saw in my shop. Most cuts can be done on the table saw although not as convienient.
I use a miter saw 2nd only to my table saw. I should have bought a Kapex but just can't justify the price.
I have the Bosch but trying to get it to 90 degree cuts were such a pain. Does the rigid have the same issue?
The red lever should lock it.
Great video. It helped me decide between the two.
Glad I could help!
I would love to see your dust box. I want to build a miter station. You can email me at shopramblings@gmail.com.
@@ShopRamblings Pictures sent.
Which method were you thinking about?
A viewer shared the model number for the UK version of the product. 👀 According to them, it comes with a dual laser similar to the Kpex. 🤔 I will investigate the possibility of obtaining the missing components or adding an E12 bulb base and using an LED. 💡 I will need to assess the available space to determine the feasibility of these options. 🤔 #DIY #ProblemSolving #StayTuned
I just bought the Bosch , hefty price but I found accuracy being key element in my process
I tried two of the Delta saws. They couldn't make a straight cut even after a few hours of adjusting them. I returned both and bought a Dewalt.
You definitely have a greater chance of making a bad cut with the Delta.
Cheers! The same bosch I just bought here in Europe came with a laser! But it is also more expensive (like most tools).
I have been trying to find a European part seller to order the pieces from.
Yes, I got the Ridgid on on sale. I would have kept it, but I caught the Bosch on sale for around the same price.
I just bought the Bosh, I hope it’s a keeper
I am still using mine. I just need to get a shadow line installed.
In Europe the saw comes as standard with a twin line red laser line, I converted mine to shadow line with 3rd party kit!!
I have been looking for a good shadow line kit.
It is a great saw at full price. It is even better on sale.
Does either saw have a depth stop for making half lap joints?
They both do.
Hard to find the Ridgid R4251 anywhere. Is it discontinued?
They were out of stock for several months. Then they came back in stock, then gone again. I think they buy container loads at a time but only get shipments every few month. The best way is to sent an inventory notification.
@@ShopRamblingsVery helpful. Thanks!
I've had several Bosch saws over the years. Id pick that over the HD/Delta all day long. A buddy has the HD.. its like comparing a Chevy to a Toyota.
For retirement i treated myself to the Festool.... its far too expensive but.... it beats the Bosch...all day long
Maybe one day I will be able to get a Festool, but I doubt it.
@ShopRamblings I hear ya, it's far too expensive...I had a weak moment
@jcs1758 I think a miter saw is the most useful saw to have.
@@ShopRamblings most used...table saw and miter... by far
Hi. Can you tell me pkease is good choise to buy ridgit 10' saw? For 219? And put good blade?
Definitely
I think DIYers wil be happy with the Delta/Ridgid. But, it I was running a shop Bosch/Makita for sure.
I think most people will be happy with either. They are both good saws, but both have their issues. I just wish the Bosch had the shadow line.
Are the blades 1" arbor or 5/8"? Full time carpenters need to replace blades more frequently and many stores don't carry 1" arbor.
Will the Ridged 10” saw cut a 45 degree cross cut on a 2x4 ?
Yes.
@stgraves260, it can cross cut a 2x12, but it can't miter it at 45⁰.
The Bosch has a laser guide. Two beams that the blade cuts between. Pretty sure mines same model. It's the 12"
What is the model number of yours?
Would your purchase be at all influenced if the Rigid/Delta was $200 less than the Bosch?
Also, I saw that Delta makes practically the same saw called the Cruzer.
Yes, if you pull up the schematic, any part that is not orange has the same part number. They are both made in the same factory.
The Bosch Glide has been around a long time. How do they justify asking $600 for a saw and not so much as throw on a laser guide?
Agreed
Outstanding video.
Thanks
Saludos desde Ecuador excelentes maquinas en donde puedo adquirir??
Not sure in Ecuador, here Lowes or Amazon is the easiest.
Good review
Thanks!
This style saw has been out on the market for years now and for the interest of continuing quality improvement you better not be holding your breath. 😂
I don’t know why tool manufacturers can’t or won’t build something that craftsmen demand as a basic function such as repeatable accuracy, durability and ease of use? They all seem to lack respect for the end user of their tools.
The housing is already molded for a light. Like you said, it has been out for years. Why the don't offer an add-on beats me.
I added a shadow line to my Bosch!
Once I get one added I believe it will be a great saw.
Please tell me the exact part you got to add a shadow line to the Bosch.
Good luck.
@@phcalamaThanks, I saw that video.
Very helpful!
I am glad it was.
I'm finding myself looking at tools more due to circumstances damn man, stupidity and neglect really do come with a price
Agreed
The European Version of the Bosch has a Laser. This is why there is a empty housing.
Does the laser go on both sides of the blade or just one.
No soft start on Ridgid
Nope
Bosch any day.
That is the one I kept. I still need to add a shadow line to it.
Buy the makita. Much better saw
Makita makes a good saw. It is $739. I paid $320 for this one. I can deal with this one for $400 less.
