Nah, the original and Brawl versions of Gang-Plank Galleon are way too lax. The Ultimate remix gives the song much more flair and energy.
It feels more faithful than the ultimate remix.

It’s funny Ted complains the the K Rool remix not having moments where it calms down but it literally does. He needs to listen to it again
In my opinion, Kirby's biggest strength as a series is it's escalating tone. The games are pretty consistent with starting in a very kiddy, happy, childlike way and then slowly getting more serious, usually ending with a fight against something nightmarish. Zero from DL3 is a great example of that intense tonal shift (it attacks you with what appears to be its own blood and during phase 2 its eyeball busts out of its head to attack).
Way more better than Pokemon at least.

I actually feel like Haltmann and Susie's connection was hinted at a bit better then Sectonia and Taranza's, mostly because Haltmann and Susie's fights are intentionally similiar, and the fact that he shoots out statues and money with his daughters likeness/image, plus Susie's comment about getting back at her "old man".
K Rool Theme is busy for the sake of being busy? Oh yeah, 3 instruments, soooooo busy. Edit: The Xenoblade songs ACE+ does are mostly boss themes, of course they're going to be high-energy and not take a break. That's what makes them great!
Yes Pokemon does the same thing for there remixes like FireRed has a great remix of Blue's champion theme.
I believe that the developers of star allies stated that the whole mood shift in the kirby series was intentional that they wanted each game to start out light hearted and child friendly then as the end game comes up it becomes a bit dark and foreboding
And as well add some forshadowing with certain stuff like in RTDL with the first letter of the worlds speeling crowned and Magalor being somewhat manipulative with Kirby and pals
Masked Dedede & the K.rool Remix are just high energy...they aren't busy in the literal sense.
Though saying that it doesn't take a break is inaccurate, at like 50 seconds before it ramps up again. You may just not like the horns...
Personally the benefit of Kirby lore to me Atleast is the fact that it’s there if you want it and if you just wanna enjoy the surface level story of the game itself, it’s your choice.
it might suck that a lot of lore isn’t shown in the game, cuz I’d love to see it all executed in the game or something, but I think it’s compliments the accessibility of Kirby, as opposed to Kingdom hearts or something where lore it like NEEDED to get everything and it makes it harder to get into for me personally.

I don't like the Smash Ultimate version of it too much either. At first I enjoyed it, it fit really well with the trailer, but I think I listened to it too much. I prefer the original DKC version and the Brawl remix.

In the same way the easy nature of Kirby’s gameplay is complimented by the intricacies of the copy abilities (and the harder sub games...), the simple and lighthearted story is contrasted by the detailed and dark lore. It broadens the game’s appeal across different audiences without losing focus of what the series was originally designed to be.
It's weird to think that Kirby of all franchises has actual continuity & lore to the series. You wouldn't think such a bright & cheerful franchise aimed at a very young audience would get that kind of treatment, that & having final bosses that look like they were summoned straight from Hell.
I'm just glad that a franchise aimed at kids can have actually serious lore and continuity without people dismissing it by saying "it's a series about *insert obnoxiously bare-bones description of the main character,* it shouldn't take itself so seriously".
Yes, I _am,_ in fact, _aware_ that Sonic is a 3 foot blue hedgehog that runs fast, and _yes,_ I _do_ unironically think that it taking itself seriously is not a bad thing.

Klonoa 2 is another good platformer aimed at primarily kids that has a decent story. Still really annoyed how badly bsc dismissed it as terrible.
That's one of the things I like about it. There's just enough to keep you interested. As opposed to Mario where you don't really get continuity, but mostly just references to this or that game.
Sonic also had a sense of continuity back then, but nowadays it's all over the place.

24:39 This makes me think that Kirby holds back when he’s outnumbered. He can have a total of 3 of himself to do victory dances, but didn’t do that for this boss battle against 3 Dedede clones! Kirby could respond to these clones in kind, but he fights solo!
Hearing Lewis talk about how Raidou and Dante are so different when Raidou is quite literally a skin for Dante with the exact same moves makes me want to pull my hair out
Not to mention that they added Raidou's pierce skill to Dante too.

@@hibiki8473 When I played the game, my demifiend was a physical attacker and the only boss I had any trouble against late game was against Yosuga, because she turned me into a fly and my physical attacks became worthless. Otherwise, it’s exactly like Ted said: great for boss killing, but standard enemies were kind of annoying

Kirby lore is MASSIVE, but they don't really go to o in depth often, And to be honest, it can be Screwed up! the three Magus Sisters are always the Example I go to.
Francisca was Lost in a massive blizzard and Froze to death, allowing Hyness to resurrect her with Ice powers.
Flamberge Had a similar story except the elements were swapped, she Died to heat stroke due to Intense volcanic heat.
And Zan Partizanne... Her story is that she was climbing up a Large tower, seemingly only for the sake of being Electrocuted and Falling dead...She Committed Suicide, and Was brought back, giving her such extreme devotion to Hyness unlike the others.
Breaking news: Kirby commits automobile-related mayhem and runs over countless Waddle Dee lives. Newly appointed Dreamland detective Cole Phelps is on the case to stop this monster, despite having a record of automobile-related mayhem himself.
This just in: Dreamland has been reduced to a burning wasteland. A surviving Waddle Dee claims that it was the inevitable outcome of sending Cole Phelps, a man notorious for his terrible driving, to arrest Kirby when interviewed.

I'm upset no one in the commentary is much musically inclined because one of my favorite "details" on the Dedede 3 fight is that during the final part with the cannon, Dedede's theme is remixed and done in 3/4 time. Really that tidbit just goes underappreciated as a whole.
My favorite renditions of dedede are probably the original dream land version (mainly for the pitch/whatever it did differently from every other rendition), dream land 3, star allies., And dededestroyer z from battle royale

Tbh between robobot and star allies I'd probably say star allies tells a bit more if it's lore in the story itself (honestly I'd almost say it tells you more than triple deluxe proportionally) whereas here the only stuff you get here is susie very slight beef with haltmann (that was more explicit in Japan IIRC) and the final video being a cute video of the two. I still love all the lore regardless but I suppose I can see why there might be some consternation.
Also I guess I can kiiiinda see ryan's point about villains but outside dedede in dream land 1, spring breeze, spinoffs, and revenge of the king and meta knight in revenge of meta knight, kirby's enemies/final bosses are almost always the sort of "hidden evil nightmare that the pure innocent puffball beats at the end and makes everyone's days happier" kinda feeling. Kirby doesn't really go for more down to earth "this dude's just an asshole go beat em up" stories
You could also add Marx onto the "this dude's just an asshole go beat em up" list (not counting Marx Soul), and if we just say villains and not final bosses, Daroach would also fit as well. Magolor could count, too, as he is the instigator of the conflict in the story and conscious main villain before even getting the crown and transforming (the Master Crown seems to be conscious, but it only goes out of control when Kirby damages it, so I don't know how much blame can be set against it).
I wouldn’t call them Sailor Moon-esque, but Kirby was definitely transforming in the Right Back At Ya anime.
Well Ted, if you want Zero 3 you can get it in the Mega Man Zero/ZX legacy collectio... Wait, wrong Zero.
I believe they imply in Super Kirby Clash (a mobile-esque game for the Switch) that Galacta Knight was one of the Four Heroes who originally dealt with Void Termina. They don't call him Galacta Knight, but they call him 'an ancient hero', and he uses the Heart Spears from Star Allies in one of his attacks.
Not to mention that he has elements similar to Void Termina (the horns, is said to have the power to destroy entire worlds, has a light and dark form on top of his standard form), which could imply he has a similar level of power to match and best fight Void Termina.
His back story also matches, as he was said to have been sealed away since ancient times for fear his power was too great, just like how the people of science were "in such fear of our power that they sealed us away and banished us" despite Hyness and his people stopping a "galactic crisis" themselves, so the same people of science may be responsible for sealing Galacta Kight away as well.
Physical in SMTIII tends to be the better one because the magic damage formula is kind of a mess, where starting from level 30 until much later, you actually lose damage as you level up for some wacky reason. Magic is still viable, but Physical kind of overshadows it by a lot, especially with Pierce. If you also have Freikugal (which you should if you're running Physical), that means there's nothing that can resist your attacks anymore.
Also Raidou was better than Dante, not because of the elemental business (Dante also has elemental attacks and of the same elements If I remember correctly), but because he had Pierce. The HD release gives Dante pierce, so there's not much difference anymore.

23:30 I'm pretty sure Void is explicitly supposed to be Zero-Three (or I guess more proto-Zero technically), as his splash screen for Astral Birth has the EX version of Hyper Zone from the Zero fight, his pose on the pause screen has Zero's Boss Butch game over pose with Zero-Two's smile (which it also does in the fight) and in Hero's in Another Dimension, the portal on the ground goes from Hyper Zone to Dark Star to Another Dimension (which is where Void was originally found), so fight-wise he is supposed to be the third version of Zero with elements of the two along with some new points to draw from (like Dark Mind).
Lore-wise, the Japanese description says Void is born from the combination of all possibilities (being Dream, Dark, Soul, and Heart matter) as "the progenitor of origination." Hence, he is the ultimate combination of all core matter which led to the creation of everything. Since he constantly reincarnates and exists throughout all dimensions, Zero could easily just be a separate incarnation of Void, who took in a lot of negative energy and dark matter, becoming what is fought in Dreamland 3 (and maybe 64). So again, more like proto-Zero, but he still acts like a Zero-Three fight-wise due to all the connections within it.
I don't play much Kirby but the inner lore fan can appreciate the sheer amount of behind the scenes story in this series even if it has absolutely nothing to do with the game. It sounds unnecessary but I respect the dedication in doing so.

Lewis, you’re wrong. Raidou and Dante exactly the same character, they only change the animations and names of the attacks. The HD version even gives Dante the Pierce effect that Raidou gets. Nyarly showed this in his Nocturne videos when he loaded his save file from the Chronicle version into the American version and Raidou just turned into Dante.

I went through New Jersey on the way to New York a few months before the pandemic. What’s the deal with the roads there? I don’t remember the specifics, but the way the roads were set up made trying to navigate a nightmare.
I still think the weirdest japanese title I’ve seen is the Nier Replicant remake, which has a version number in the title that even Yoko Taro can’t be bothered to pronounce if what I’ve heard is accurate. The name is apparently derived from the square root of 1.5, but that still raises the question of why have something so specific for the title?
I think this playthrough mentioned Captain N before, but I’ll just say that I don’t know what’s weirder: the fact that the writers of the show *somehow* heard of Mother Brain but not Samus, or the fact that they couldn’t even get the *name of the game they were adapting right* with the Fractured Fantasy of Captain N. (The name’s referring to Final Fantasy for the record. No, I don’t know how they got that wrong either.)

I do think feel Masked is a bit overrated and the fans attribute it to a more negative side of Dedede, sorta like a Teen/Cocky Gohan vs Nerdy/Scholar Gohan, but yeah Ted kinda digging his own grave
I like the Masked Dedede theme is basically Dedede being so fed up of Kirby he gets his secret weapon and fights him in a no hold barred match till one of them faints which is awesome and the fast paced tone helps it too so uh yeah Ted may have made the Kirby fanbase a bit mad there.

Kirby has done it since I say Superstar at least since Dedede was mostly neutral to Kirby after the first game Kirby 64 and onward made them frenemies.
Also ignoring how pretty much the only difference with Dante and Raidou (besides animations) is that they gave Raidou a passive that makes his physical moves have piercing effect...

17:30 I'm pretty sure the "Cranky, take it to the fridge!" line is supposed to a pun on "bridge," as in the bridge of a song (which is the section of a song that has different lyrics from the verse and chorus and slightly different music, acting as relief from the repetitive elements of the song). Since the bridge is just listing different kinds of fruit, they connect the food pun and rename the bridge as a fridge (that holds all the fruit).

The Kirby lore is sick. And Morpho Knight is definitely the same butterfly from Return to Dreamland and you can't just handwave it away by saying Kirby is simple game because you find the idea sort of ridiculous.

Ah, the Kirby lore. In my opinion, the implications of the stories in the Kirby series are more interesting and handled better than Kingdom Hearts's stories.
I think the SSBU version of Gangplank Galleon is much better than the SNES version, because at least it actually SOUNDS like it could be considered a final boss theme

15:04 Considering Smash is a fighting game I don't really think that's a bad thing. Only reason why I don't play a lot of ported over songs in smash is because they clearly aren't made for the pace that you'll be playing at when in a match and having "breaks" in a song while your blood is pumping and you're in a fight to the death doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me unless it's a turn based RPG or something where you have moments to take your time in.

K. Rool's Smash theme does have a low portion, the part with the barely-understandable rapping. And I can understand the Melee DK Rap perfectly fine.

Agree with Ted here. King K. Rool's theme in Brawl is better IMO. I know that the theme was remixed in Ultimate to fit the more active (fast-paced) aspect of the game, but to me that's the one song that doesn't need to be fast-paced to be enjoyable. Granted, I'm not saying that the Ultimate remix is bad (because it's not), I'm saying that Brawl has the best version of the theme
Yeeeah, chalk up to Old People swarming florida and crooks trying to evade capture that fled from other states. That's usually the recepie for Florida Man and that goddamn bugs bunny gif of sawing off the state.
Uh, Physical was batshit broken in Nocturne. It consistently outdamages magic past early game and you get pierce later, which ignores all physical resists. Not to mention the fact that because of some weird number bullshit investing points into magic became less effective after level 27.
Oh, and also Raido in nocturne literally has the same skills as dante, just reskinned and he gets pierce.
I think Ted and I have a lot of similar music opinions from what I've seen of BSC because I'm also not a fan of songs that don't take a break regardless of the reason

I kind of get where Ted is getting it where a song just doesn't 'stop' and just keeps ramping up and ramping up.
Bravely Default does this to a ludicrous degree, nearly every song refuses to have buildup and instead starts out blasting you like its the intro to Attack on Titan and won't stop.
Contrast that with Nobuo Uematsu, composer of Final fantasy, the franchise Bravely Default is taking all of its inspiration from, and its jarring. Uematsu took a full minute to build up One Winged Angel. He took 7 minutes to build up Dancing Mad.
Serpent Eating the Ground? GO HARD AND DON'T STOP GOING HARD
I think the Bravely Default example is getting into Ant's point about context though. As a standalone song, Serpent That Devours the Horizon is going hard from the start, but it's also playing for what is essentially Part 2 of the Final Boss, with Phase 1 having already been the build up, so for how it's played in game, there's little reason for the song to reel it back. Compare One-Winged Angel where the build-up is for loading in the fight and giving you the grand introduction to Safer/Sapher Sephiroth.
Dancing Mad is a similar point, this is the first time Kefka's been seen in person for half the game, and arguably the only legitimate boss fight he's had. Most times when Dancing Mad is referenced elsewhere like in Dissidia, they primarily use the last section as Kefka's fight theme because the fighting games are more frenetic than a JRPG.

Can I just say that the DeeDee clones' first phase is a bitch if you aren't equipped with ESP at the moment? Seriously, I hated fighting those guys with any other Copy Ability. Since they often bumrush and even when you're in the air, and jump up and slam a hammer in your face.

The Now or Never remix for Ultimate is honestly the worst remix in the entire series. It takes the Sonic 4 route and makes a song entirely out of the sounds of dying cats, and ruins everything good about the original Now or Never.
Tbh I didnt like any of the splatoon remixes aside from bomb rush blush

The tension between the lore and how the story being told is something I can get behind. Why show it when you can just exposition dump? The devs literally had to explain confusing parts of this story on miiverse. On a more positive note, this boss is awesome. Also, based on what Ted said I don't think he would be too fond of noise rock.

I only liked Susie in Star Allies because I knew she would be getting the robobot, I didn't care about the plot at all and I still don't.
I agree with Ted. I don’t like the Gang Plank Galleon Smash Ultimate rendition. I think Crocodile Cacophony is a much better song anyway

A beginer anime that I think Ted should get into would beeeeee fuck it i dunno there all complicated as all hell ,but at the same time amazing to watch as well. I'd say Your beginer anime or jump into anime series would be the Hiomizaki series. There all on Disney plus right now. And then after that. Kill La Kill if your feeling really risky one piece , but if you want a More Less Tame and just junkfood anime you watch Dbz and Naruto. The only problem with Naruto is there are lots of filler. Then again so is Dbz. Like that's new. Don't watch Boruto as your first........just don't. It's just flat out bad.
