I have the same tripod and it works very well for all my hunting. For PDogs and my 17hmr, 17wsm and 204 I prefer driving in on my four wheeler. I have a piece of plywood bolted on that works great as a shooting bench. If the Pdogs are really thick, I've also used a pcp air rifle and a ghillie suit. I hike in before sunrise and get them as they come out when the sun shine hits their mounds. Works great and it's lots of fun.

I miss sometimes, too! 😉 I’ve killed 15-20 groundhogs with my .17 WSM in the past 4-5 years, and well over a hundred with my trusty 10/22 prior to that. As you well know, there is absolutely no comparison in performance. Every single groundhog I’ve taken with the WSM has dropped like it was struck by lightning. I think the WSM is a real sleeper round.
Put a BSA 'Super Mag' scope on mine. Gotta admit the scope performs higher than my expectations. Haven't found anything yet that makes me want to change it out.
Invest in a leveling head or ball head tripod... You'll drop most that shakiness Most of that is from you have to hold tension against the little sticking points when traversing to the next target.. Bog saddle tripods are good for deer stands and shooting 200 yards... For more surgical work you can see its flaws way more
Saw a rifle chambered in this round today at a local pawn shop. Don’t know anything about it, had a few 17 HMRs, that I really liked, researching the difference
My 17 home and 17 wsm have transplanted my 204 as my pd go to rifles. Cost along with recoil and seeing hits in the scope along with both 17's being semi auto make em a hoot to shoot, though don't quite give em a ride like the 204 does. 350 yards on the hmr and 450 for the wsm match the best yardage on my 204 with the 22.250 holding my best at 720 yards.

Velocity. Huge difference in .17 wsm and .17 hmr. A lot more power behind the .17 wsm because of the 500+ fps velocity increase.
