I like to snack on frozen berries. Somewhat more healthy than ice cream (and I usually either crush them slowly with my incisors or thaw them with my tongue)...
A good video for showing the foods you don't usually see in videos online. I'm glad there's good options besides just the cutlets & donuts & heavy bentos & fried ramen cups that are interesting to see online but would be too much to eat all the time.
The problem with a lot of these convenience foods is that you have to actually read the small print. Such is the case with the Soft Tofu Stew: It's 96 kcal. per 100 grams, but there are 225g in the package. So the entire thing is 216 kcal (903 kJ). Additionally, these types of foods are usually far from healthy, even if they are low in fat, as they are packed full of other undesirable ingredients. Don't believe the marketing! It's not uncommon to have so-called "diet" foods being actually worse for you. Read the label!
You have no idea how many times that fact has tripped me up. I mentioned that to a co-worker once, he said - "No, I'm eating 200 calories" - turns out he'd been eating over 600 calories per serve. lol.
You still need calories to live, even if you decrease your daily intake, it’s not the goal to eat barely any calories. A 200kcal snack is fine as long as it’s nutritious
@@Jhud69 That's not what OP is trying to highlight. They're pointing out that a lot of products marketed as low fat/low carb often do so deceptively, even if completely legally. Using recommended portion sizes that don't reflect how their product is normally consumed. The sweets 'Tic Tacs' are an excellent example of this, any claims made about the product are typically based on it's serving recommendation. 1 single Tic Tac. Nobody is going to just eat one of those a day but it's completely legal for them to use that portion sizing in marketing.
Similar to the tofu chocolate bar, you can make chocolate pudding with silken tofu, cocoa powder (or melted dark chocolate) and a bit of maple syrup for sweetness. Very tasty and a good source of protein! I also like to make chocolate chia pudding as well which is similar but swap tofu for chia seeds + add milk to hydrate the chia, a good source of protein, omega 3 and magnesium!
Vinegar drinks have been around for a very, very long time. It's an old-fashioned way to enhance hydration. Usually there is enough sweetness added to make it palatable, whether it's with honey, fruit, or some other means.
LAWSON ('s) was an Ohio, USA company, from my area, when I was a child .I learned about store prices with my Mom there for bread and milk .It was later bought by a Japanese company, including the logo, and is no longer in our USA region
Yeah - there are tons of high-protein options. That's what I love about Japanese conbini - you don't HAVE to eat junk food. I often grab a really nice salad. Oooh... just remembered, during halloween they have a mashed pumpkin, cream, walnuts and maple side dish.. mmm....
Some places with drink fountains might let you get a soft drink cup of just ice! Depending on the store, it might be free or it might be the same price as a soft drink
I mean technically in cals these foods are all low. But the majority are still processed with either high sugar or sodium. They are convenience store food after all and need shelf life. Or because they are low in cals, they have to ramp up the flavour in some way. It’s a myth you are healthy just because your are thin
I don't eat diet anything, but this is still an interesting video anyway! When you said those pickles were "slightly spicy" it made me think "By Singapore standard or in general?" I know how you Singaporeans are about spice!
I recognized that bold iced green tea. Found a bottle while in New York City and absolutely loved it. Can't find it anywhere near me in Massachusetts though
I'd love to know more about these pre-cut and packed vegetables. Here in germany there was a huge discussion about these since they are often germ loaded to the point of being barely eatable without some propper cleaning.
"Diet" foods being so totally separated from what makes something actually good for you is so fascinating to me in the way a horror movie is. You're being sold low calories and high protein, but people have no idea *why* you're meant to eat them (spoilers: you're usually not!!) and so they just take whatever the latest rend is and run with it, thinking they're eating better.
I loved this video not because I'm a diet person but because it showcased vegetarian convenient store foods, which I rarely have ever seen. If possible can you make a video on vegetarian konbini foods?
I would also be interested in this, I think it's quite hard though as Japan puts fish in a lot of foods. Apparently Natural Lawson does have more veggie options. It would be cool if DB went to a shojin ryori restaurant, or did a video on some of the vegetarian restaurants in Tokyo.

Yea, water is better for you. It's also boring. I don't always want water, but also don't always want soda. Juice is nice, but still a lot of empty calories. Maybe people aren't falling marketing bs as much as they are looking for alternatives to boring old water.
Mmm, yeah, I don't think they'd get away with advertising green tea to reduce body fat in Europe. A claim like that would be treated as a medical claim so it would have to have proper research behind it.
The Lemon Salad drink would it be similar to V-8 in America? If you've never heard of this it's a tomato based drink with other vegetables added like spinach, carrots and beets. That Lemon Salad looks delicious I wish I could purchase it here in Oklahoma.
yeah - similar. The juice section has a number of different fruit juices, and many of them have that same selling point, that they combine x number of vegetables and fruits into the one drink (usually with a nice diagram on the side to explain each one).

I wouldn't be able to stomach the black vinaigre drink.
asian vinegar drinks are surprisingly palletable, with the juice and honey it kind of ends up tasting like a more astringent lemonade

Pfft. No, you eat the yogurt first... then when the ratio is just right, you dig through to get the rich, sweet jam on the bottom. ;)
