dude, no matter where u see a video about learning how to flatland, flatlands are more in the expert side, you have to learn how to balance on your front peg first before trying this, and this dude did help me do a flatland, thanks man
You want as short a frame as possible and your rear wheel as close to the dropouts because it will make it easier to balance and manual also its easier to handle a smaller bike depending on your height. your seat height is basically a matter of preference and depends on the type of tricks you want to pull...chad degroot the first rider and day smith the second rider are insane at what they do i would also say they are the best technical flatland riders out there keeping this sport alive
@350ZnismoTuner I've read a few times that flatland riders often use light chro-mo steel frames, so I don't see your frame stopping you doing anything. This is one quote I just read while googling the subject: "The best flatland bikes feature lightweight durable chromoly steel frames designed specifically for flatland riding"
Oh ya for sure. Lot of guys don't use brakes at all anymore because their style is all about movement; as soon as they stop they start their ride all over. Going brakeless is harder but it forces you to be better and more creative and it's just more impressive. A guy does a trick with brakes it's cool but if he does it brakeless it's just cooler cuz you know his balance has to be really on point and the stakes are higher.
I'm a brake rider from 80s/90s and you're absolutely right. In fact, a rider today would practice harder than I did back in the day. The brakeless tricks today are frickin insane!
Used to run the bars Day Smith had. HB Love Handlebars 6 piece. Now a days if you more than a 2 piece people think it's a Wal-Mart bike. I still rock the 4 piece though.
very nice and helpful video. but one little question: do you use aluminium-frames or steel-frames? because i have a steel-frame which is a bit heavy and it's not very easy to keep the back-wheel up and to balance it during i drive on my front-wheel. what do you can recommend me? thanks for any answer ;)
yeah it is really and for the flatland i was trying it as well but i just find it so hard to keep my balance and keep the bike balanced aswell plus i can barely manual lol
@guitarman1281 most likely, if your not sure if its heavy or not, its probly heavy. go to a bmx shop and get a lite bike. find a bike that is easy for you to pick up.
Basics? In how many time can i learn this? How long does it gonna take when i can do some tricks? Someone has a good website or something where i can learn much about BMX???
I use to have this video whe I first started riding. I always thought the tricks they chose weren't the easiest. I can do plenty of different barflips but I can't do it his way. that's not basic nor the forward karl cruiser. still a good video though, helped me alot in the begining
@aswtx75 What would the basics be that you suggest to focus on? I would like to get a strong foundation but I need to know what said foundation consists of. Help a brother out.
Focus a majority of your time riding on the basics. The rest will come after you've developed a strong foundation. Without that strong foundation the advanced tricks will always be just out of reach. The problem with many riders that seriously want to learn is that they do not focus on the correct basics and they don't use their practice time effectively. I made that mistake when I was younger.
and now? have u got it? i'm triyng it for months too...but while i was trying to mccircle and letting my hand go to grab the seat, a flash came to me on how to fire hydrant...u have to let the frame roll till u feel it's the last moment u can keep turning and sustaining the bike without braking...when it's over, it's time to feather the break and push your body forward to grab the frame...hope u understand, cause my english sucks...
LMAO I get what you mean! it took me a month just to "Fork Glide" and around 2-3 weeks to fire hydrant although i can do it all the time, i need to practise more.
Well, these tricks might be basic once we can do it, but what about during the trick and once you want to sit back on your bike. how the hell do you get back to your pedal? -.-
@stickmister321 I personally find a heavy bike has more control, but its alot harder to do different types of spins, like a foot jam tailwhip or such... but i dont find the need for having a specific bike for a specific trick :/ thats just me though, id say try the trick and see what happens
hey, im just learning bmx, my friends do this stuff and i got a dk helio, can i do most of these tricks with that bike? or what type of bike is good for flatland?
When i came on this video i expected a couple of manuals, bunny hops and mabye some spins, except i found some of the most confusing tricks ever If this is basics i wanna see Expert
Didn’t teach the tricks that well. But these guys are still LEGENDS in my book. 💯👌🏽
I watched this several years ago.
How to do a Steam roller, do a steam roller. How to do a gang 5, do a hang 5. Good job.
dude, no matter where u see a video about learning how to flatland, flatlands are more in the expert side, you have to learn how to balance on your front peg first before trying this, and this dude did help me do a flatland, thanks man
omg this is like the best tutorial ive seen yet for learning basic :]

I was learning back in the 80s when all we had was pictures in magazines to tryu to figure it out from.
tryed all of them bout ten times and finally got it on the last one and several scraps and bruses later.
@MATHIJSIE666 to get the frame up easier for the hang 5 you need to scoop the back peg as you push forward on the handlebars
thanks man this is a really easy tutorial to understand thank you
So I now wanna learn flatland this summer!

A tip to hang-fire is to always look forward, not down at your feet or ft.wheel
best instruction video ever
Day Smith you're my hero man!
@robseven7
it took me ages to learn hop to manual but if u just keep trying u might achieve the trick that your learning.
Them tricks are EPIC

Holy fucking shit brad simms! Killing the flatland video! I enjoyed those lessons.
Robboooo Long Island represent
And Ride Out!
Chuckie Graswick should I ride out before or after I break my neck. I’m afraid if I try this I may need to ride out to the hospital! 😂😂😂😂
yeah it is really and for the flatland i was trying it as well but i just find it so hard to keep my balance and keep the bike balanced aswell
plus i can barely manual lol
i got a verde Eon 2010, and i customized evry part. Its really nice and lite even we the parts r stock
its heavy, but manageable. changing your fork for a flatland specific one would help a lot.
man u make it look very easy
i like this... greetings from germany!!
how do you lift up the back tire after you stand and have balance on the front pegs
patience, motivation, practice and have fun is key to flatland ^_^

@guitarman1281 most likely, if your not sure if its heavy or not, its probly heavy. go to a bmx shop and get a lite bike. find a bike that is easy for you to pick up.
I hope I can do these, I don't got now brakes so I can't feather

can you do this with out a gyro? and if your bike doesnt have one can you add one?
when i see that , it seems so easy to stay on one wheel and to keep the equilibre just with one foot pushing on the tire ^^
@aswtx75
What would the basics be that you suggest to focus on? I would like to get a strong foundation but I need to know what said foundation consists of. Help a brother out.
What if you dont have any brakes could you still do all or most of these tricks? Because i hate wires they get in my way when im bmxing.
I keep watching ur vid and tryin
i need a new bmx.. any suggestions on what one to get ??

@stickmister321 I personally find a heavy bike has more control, but its alot harder to do different types of spins, like a foot jam tailwhip or such... but i dont find the need for having a specific bike for a specific trick :/ thats just me though, id say try the trick and see what happens
