It’s all subjective opinion of a piece of art, but I personally thought 4 was dog shit. Writing just nosedived. it honestly ruined most of the fights for me, especially the end fight with Scott adkins, and that’s so disappointing to me
The last fight utilizes the weapons used in Wing Chun: the dragon pole and the butterfly swords. There's different branches in Wing Chun so each branch has it's own systems, traditions and interpretations of the Wing Chun concept. Bruce Lee founded Jun Fan Gung Fu based on Wing Chun before he dropped it and created Jeet Kune Do as a response to the flaws of his previous martial arts concept.
Yeah their punches and palm style is actually the fist version of those weapon, the pole and the double blade, that's why they battle with them at first to compare who adapted Wing Chun better from its original form in weapon.
The Superman working best when his dad dies of a heart attack was spot on. How do you defeat someone as good as Ip Man? By presenting him with something he can't fight. Awesome observation, Roxy!
The Ip Man movies are a really good lesson on how not all antagonists are villains. Also, if it hasn't been mentioned yet: Bruce Lee was a cha cha champion and actually taught for a bit. Common Bruce Lee W.
Roxy's note regarding Ip Man's thematic parallels with Superman is such an on-point comment. Accented Cinema has a video essay discussing that topic, and it's well worth the watch for any writer thinking of writing an "unbeatable" protagonist.

Cheung has his own movie telling his side of the story after IP Man 3 called “Master Z: Ip Man Legacy” It’s really an underrated and fun movie and has amazing casts as well including Michelle Yeoh and Dave Bautista. You guys should 100% watch it. Highly recommended.
Disagree. The spinoff is a disappointment and disgrace to the franchise, too much wireworks and use of stuntdoubles. Storyline was also weak. Just look at the RT score
The movie wasn’t his “own side of the story.” The story takes place after the story of Ip Man 3. The story was a whole different story, not his side of the story.
The movie is great and the action choreography is incredible. I've seen the guy that plays Master Z in other films and he's amazing. One movie he fought against Tony Jaa in an epic fight scene.
Fun facts for the Cheung actor: He was filming in this other IP Man movie (Grandmaster), at the time he was just an ordinary actor that does not know martial arts. He needs to take classes and go through training preparing for the shoot. The movie took over a decade to film. The actor had gained his martial arts championship and degree from the filming.
By the way, the person Ip Man fought at the end has his own spin-off movie that also had Batista as the villain. It's in-between the 3rd and 4th film. I think you guys should give it a watch.
I was actually surprised to see Batista in the movie and more surprised to see that he was better utilized in a Chinese movie than in any American movies that I've seen him in.
Ip Man 1-4 is a masterpiece. I thoroughly enjoyed each movie as it offered something unique with each one. Not only does it have a lot of action but the stories are incredibly emotionally driven. Can't wait to see you react to part 4 which is a favorite of mine.
Ipmans friend with the umbrella is another one of the former legends of martial arts cinema from back in the day often goes by "beardy" you can see him get hit in the nuts in 5 shaolin masters. its such a cool throwback how these movies include these legends as the various school masters. stunt coordinators always talk about beardy like "you only need to show him a choreography once and he will learn it" he was a master

Wing Sing's passing felt so real (Ip Man's wife). They did really well making that couple seem real and I was invested! Donnie Yen has such a great 'calm' and friendly face that when he goes into 'Ah, so you have chosen death' mode, it's legit scary! *edit* I really enjoyed Ip Man 4 too. Scott Adkins is awesome!
Speaking to Roxy saying she heard that Wing Chun was created by a woman - you should check out “Wing Chun” starring Michelle Yeoh and also Donnie Yen, loosely based on the legend of Yim Wing-Chun, the first master of this style of martial arts. Pretty good movie, IIRC (was released in 1994)
the fight between mike tyson and donnie yen was solely done for the purpose of showing that no fighting styles is bad or down because after part 2 of ip man many people think western boxing style as evil so the director was conscious on keeping that fight to finish in draw, so that it shows the equality of greatness to both fighting styles. cigarette fight was not kept for humour purpose but show case the speed of bruce lee. if you really want to know how speed is bruce lee i would recommend a video named "Bruce Lee: Be Like Water" in youtube and it's like 3:29 minutes and you will get to know how fast and powerful bruce lee is. thanks for your reaction to this great movie which also has great choreography and cinematography. waiting for IP MAN 4
The superman comment is great as I've seen Ipman be compared to what a great live action superman would be. He is an overly optimistic boyscout in a world that is always changing. He still has a lot of flaws that he has to learn from for the sake of just being a better person. He is nearly unstoppable in a fight yet his biggest challenges are the ones that he can't punch his way out of. The one inch punch was popularised in the West by Bruce Lee but Bruce learnt it from Ip Man during his training with him in Hong Kong. It's a Wing Chun technique.
That woman who founded Wing Chun was Ng Mui (or Ng Mei), a Buddhist nun of China's famous Shaolin Temple. Ng Mui was recognised as one of the top five martial artists in China during the early 1700s.
Yup..Master Z: Ip Man Legacy (2018) starring Max Zhang,Michelle Yeoh,Dave Bautista,Tony Jaa & Yuen Wah (aka Landlord from Kung Fu Hustle).Only 3 characters from IP MAN 3 return in this spin off: Cheung Tin Chi & his son and Ma King Sang (Mike Tyson aka Frankie lackey)
The Superman comparison is a very interesting analogy. Like Superman, Ip Man is always holding back his true power. He doesn't want to hurt people. You get to see him let loose a little bit in the first movie against the 10 guys after watching his friend get murdered by the Japanese. In Ip Man 4, which I hope you watch and do a reaction to, Ip Man will finally stop holding back and you'll get to see exactly how much of a badass he is.
True backstory: Ip man study Wing Chun as a kid growing up until he met Leung Bik, a grandmaster’s son, who taught him a different mix of Wing Chung at the age of 15. In The Movie: That’s why Ip Man’s skills is more different from Cheung’s point of view and he nagged about it’s not authentic
Please include Master Z: Ip Man Legacy, a sequel to this movie. It stars the rickshaw puller and has some actors you will likely recognize, as well as great fight choreography.
Thank you for perhaps the most insightful movie watch / review I've seen to date! The Superman analogy was great and finally got me to understand why Pa Kent dying in a tornado didn't work for me. Yes... our heroes need to come up against something they cannot beat in a fight! I can't wait for you to watch Ip Man 4! I saw it in the theaters and thought it was very well done! Again, it's different from 1 - 3, and the differences make it a fresh and very interesting final chapter in this series.
IP MAN shows the true masculinity when people always talking about masculinity in wrong way. masculinity is the explanation IP man's character because he always saved the women he loved and spent as much time he could with her. IP MAN IS THE TRUE TOP G
Ive trained with butterfly knives and they can be a mother fucker to get skilled with. That part of that final duel with the butterfly knives is my favorite choreography in this series
Another Great reaction video! Couple things for to get ready for the 4th movie. It’s a “wooden man” (or wooden dummy or “muk yan jong”) The Legend of Wing Chun can been seen in the film “Wing Chun” starring Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh. The “true” origin of wing Chun is highly debated, but most martial arts of this era have their roots in the white crane style of Kung Fu. Notes for Ip Man 3. Donnie Yen was a fan of Tyson. And as much as people were worried that Tyson would injure Donnie, it was Donnie who accidentally dislocated Tyson‘s finger Also, the dancing scene was full circle cause Bruce was also cha cha champ in Hong Kong Max Zhang got his own spinoff “Master Z: Ip man Legacy” with Bautista
Thank you for continuing with this! I was starting to wonder if you would watch Ip Man 3, I'm so happy to see this. I love these long-form reactions and analyses. Roxy, that was a very insightful observation about this being the one fight Ip Man couldn't win, and John holding back some tears a few times got me good :) My favorite part of this movie is the elevator fight, because no words are spoken but it somehow encapsulates everything about Ip's relationship with Wing Sing. See you at Ip Man 4!
Wing Chun is indeed an ancient tradition. It can be mastered, and be used to protect yourself from external harm, but it is never meant to be used to intentionally hurt anyone, even any enemies. People might come up to you to challenge you to a fight, if you use wing chun, and if your opponent is down, just stop making any offensive moves, or hurt him any further. Instead, give him a bow, to show respect.
Both of Ip Man's sons (Ip Chun & Ip Ching) both carried on the legacy too, Ip Ching unfortunately passed away back in 2020, he was 83 years old. His older brother, Ip Chun, just turned 100 on July 10th!
Hi. Great movie reviews on the Ip man franchise. Can I recommend Jet Li’s “Fearless”. A great kung fu movie with a great story. Based on real characters and events in the early 1900s. Great set, scenery and fights. Also great character developments. Great work and love how you two appreciate the artistic side of the movies.
Cheung Tin Chi wasn't a bad person. In fact he was so well liked he had his own Wing Chun movie Master Z : the Ip Man legacy also starring Michelle Yeoh and Dave Bautista. Check it out guys!
If you enjoyed Max Zhang in this film you should watch the spin off MasterZ as he reprises he character in the movie. It’s really good just remember the guy who owns the bar is not the guy who died in Ip Max 1 , same actor different character xx ❤
There's a spinoff movie with the cheung tin chi character (the other wing chun fighter) that's worth watching as well before ip man 4. It has bautista in it.
Yup..Master Z: Ip Man Legacy (2018) starring Max Zhang,Michelle Yeoh,Dave Bautista,Tony Jaa & Yuen Wah (aka Landlord from Kung Fu Hustle).Only 3 characters from IP MAN 3 return in this spin off: Cheung Tin Chi & his son and Ma King Sang (Mike Tyson aka Frankie lackey)
Looking forward to the next installment of these. IP Man 4 is actually a lot better than people say it is and stars one of my favourite newer school action heroes, Scott Adkins. Love the dude. Oh and fun fact, far as I know, Ip Man's eldest son is still around. He's closing in on 100 years old, but I'm still pretty convinced that he'd be able to whoop all our asses.
Thanks for the Ip Man reaction! Before you guys proceed to Ip Man 4: The Finale (2019), please react to “Master Z: Ip Man Legacy (2018)”.. it’s considered episode 3.5. It’s a spinoff from the Ip Man franchise. Basically continue the story from Ip Man 3, but focus on Cheung Tin Chi as main protagonist/character, and his side of the story. Ip Man is not really in this movie, but got two other great characters like Michelle Yeoh and Dave Bautista. It’s considered a redemption arc for Cheung Tin Chi’s character. Those who love this character would love this movie❤😊
love roxy’s voice so much!! not sure if either of you already watch it, but if not, it would be great to watch y’all two react to the show warrior. it’s based off of bruce lee’s writing and is pretty incredible. i think y’all would love it
If you guys like Cheung Tin Chi, I suggested you guys can watch Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy (2018), with Michelle Yeoh and Dave Bautista. Very nice movie.
The string instrument that you heard is Chinese fiddle call ER HU, and YES its has the same decible as a human voice. Its almost similar to Mongolian fiddle or Turkic and Arabic Rebab or Rababa. They only have 1 or 2 strings.
The subtitle gone wrong when Ip Man was asking Bruce to teach him how to dance - re: why Ip didn't take Bruce Lee as his student. The translation should have really been: Ip explained to Bruce: "I have only opened the door. You (Bruce) have decided to walk out the door yourself!" 😉
The often told story is that Wing Chun was developed by a nun and taught to a woman named Wing Chun (which I believe means "beautiful springtime") and when the style spread it was named after her. Most scholars think this is just a made up story to make the art's founding seem nobel, which was very important at the time. It is thought that it was attributed to a woman due to its strategy being considered more feminine by Chinese standards, as it relies more yielding and taking angles rather than relying on brute force which is considered more masculine. However, it was more than likely created by men. Some scholars think it came from the Shaolin Monestary, some think it was developed by secret societies planning to overthrow the government, and many think it's an offshoot of a style called Choy Li Fut. Others, myself included, think it was created out of a combination of styles and born out of a need to have an effective close range fighting system. Wing Chun was practiced widely among red junk opera companies which would sale the rivers in bright red boats (called "junks") and sail from port to port performing theater shows, sort of like a traveling circus. Due to the fact they moved around so much and people would come and go, members of secret societies and those running from the law would often join or at least travel with them, meaning these opera troops would often be full of martial arts experts (or so the story goes). Being on a boat they needed to be able to fight in very tight quarters and so, out of necessity, they combined various arts to creat what we know today as Wing Chun. That is why the classic Wing Chun weapons are the long pole and knives; the long pole came from learning to fight with boat oars and knives are an easily concealable close in weapon. Since life on the water was so common and encountering pirates and ruffians so frequent there have been many martial arts that have been created for fighting on boats. That is why they had that fight in the elevator, to show off the close in fighting skills.
Y’all should really watch master z: ip man legacy, it’s a spin off for the wing chin dude w Dave baustita and ip man: the legend is born, to see where ip man learned his wing chin style from also has ip mans real son in it and some other people you would recognize from other ip man movies!
I knew she’d like Wing Chun’s invention by a woman, taught to a woman to get out of marrying a guy she didn’t wanna marry As for Mike Tyson, he’s a fan of Ip Man and Donnie and Donnie’s a fan of Tyson, so they just took it from there Donnie was afraid of getting injured, (for the sake of filming, not because he didn’t want to get hit by Tyson), but ironically, it would be Tyson that got injured twice, once from hitting those windows, and the other from hitting Donnie’s elbows The choreography where Ip adjusts his strategy to attacking Frank’s lower body was actually Donnie’s on-the-spot idea and choreographed himself Apparently the Chinese woman was his wife, the kid was his daughter, probably adopted ofc but not really known. The reason they tied was simply not to embarrass either actor, but Tyson doesn’t appear again in the series Two themes you might have missed was the water part with Bruce Lee and Cheung Tin-chi’s style of Wing Chun The water is a reference to Bruce’s later Philosophy to “be like water”, illustrated by Ip telling him essentially that he wasn’t supposed to kick the water, as a subtle way of telling him that you can’t just assume you need to attack everything that comes your way, you need to be malleable to the situation The other is the the contrast between the hero and anti-hero’s use of the same style; Ip is graceful, reserved, and holds back from dealing crippling blows, while Tin-chi’s the opposite: brutal, forceful, and using moves that incapacitate enemies without mercy, a reflection of their ideologies This is illustrated by Ip refraining from using a move that could have broken Frank’s leg, and if you notice, he also refrains from blinding Frank with the exact same move that Tin-chi uses against him, which could have won him the fight This is to emphasize how Ip holds back to retain virtue even in battle, while Tin-chi just wants to get the job done at the expense of his opponents Lastly, the final part of the fight was also to show Ip’s mastery of an aspect of Wing Chun that uses senses other than sight to his advantage; even blinded by the same move he refrained from using against Frank, his use of auditory cues allowed him to still land that match-winning one-inch punch You really should watch Master Z, as it was a good conclusion to Tin-chi’s story since it picks up where Ip Man 3 left off, it has more brutal yet epic undertones, and it even shows you what happened to a certain other character from this movie. This was the one film in the franchise that resolved the ‘tyrannical oppressor’ part of the story before the end, to emphasize that the focus was actually Ip’s personal battle and development, literally and figuratively, though Frank wasn’t the only one he tied with; Ip never beat Master Hung either. Since it was implied Ip could have won against Frank, and the only reason Master Hung lost to Twister was because of his asthma, imo Hung is the best overall fighter of the series next to Ip in terms of skill Final interesting notes: The dancing referenced Bruce Lee’s cha-cha championship, Cheung Tin-chi actually is based off a real Wing Chun master named Sum Nung, disciple of Yuen Kay-shan who supposedly went undefeated in over 1000 duels to the death and was actually Ip’s senior in Wing Chun; Sum Nung was known for actually having Tin-chi’s “might makes right” Philosophy, Ip Chun (Ip’s son depicted in the first movie) not only helped make the movies but also is still alive, being almost 100 years old, while his second son Ip Ching (depicted in this movie) who also helped as a consultant, unfortunately died three years ago, just a month after Ip Man 4 was released, and Chinese jokes are generally like that; you think they’re about one thing, but they turn out to be something else by the punchline
Ip Man 4 is definitely entertaining...Not my favorite of the series, but still a worthy entry into the franchise. Scott Adkins (Killa from John Wick 4) is the main villain. That said, you two should watch the spin off movie "Master Z: Ip Man Legacy" which is the continuing story of the character Ip Man fought at the end of Ip Man 3. Michelle Yeoh, Dave Bautista, and Tony Jaa are in it. It doesn't quite have the quality of the Ip Man films in my opinion, but it's still pretty solid and worth checking out.
Ip Man basically being such a wife guy in all these movies is because both of his sons were consultants for the films, in reality he and his wife were separated for a long time and she died alone, without him. Ip Man also had a mistress, had a kid with her too.
thank you for this ip man 3 reaction that I've been waiting for🙂 . and I'll be waiting for you guys for the next ip man 4 reaction 🔥🔥🙏🏻 . keep up the spirit and stay healthy always ✌🏻.
Aaaaaaaaaye there it is. Really fun watching these reactions. I've been waiting for this since commenting on the last one, and I've brought even more trivia for you this time. Cheung Tin-Chi doesn't get a redemption arc in this movie like Roxy was hoping for, but he does get a redemption arc in his own separate spin-off movie called Master Z. The elevator fight scene is very obviously inspired by Tony Jaa, another kung fu movie star. The hairstyle, fighting moves, and outfit are all similar to what Tony Jaa uses in his own movies. What most people don't know though, is that the guy in the elevator is actually Tony Jaa's own stunt double. That's why he looks and acts the part so well. The guy getting his head smashed through the table at 31:49 is Master Law, who already got beat up twice in the previous movie (and will return to get destroyed again in Ip Man 4). Aside from Ip Man himself, he appears as a fighter in more of the films than any other character. However, he loses every single fight. Since you mentioned at the end how little Mike Tyson was actually in the movie and probably could have filmed it very quickly, Mike actually broke his finger on Donnie Yen's elbow during that scene and caused the filming to take longer than expected. Thanks for doing these! Now I'll count the days til you do Ip Man 4. You discussed at the end how you've heard mixed opinions on the last movie, but in my opinion, the finale is the best since the original. Hopefully you'll agree when you watch it. o7
I feel so bad for the wife, all she wanted was her family to be home and to be together but stuff keeps happening because this Society cannot run if Ip Man isn't fighting. I don't understand it. Nothing can go right if this man is not out there beating the crap out of half the people in the city 10 at a time.

First
John and Roxy need to watch Bruce Lee movies.
That guy with the son has his own spin off called Master Z I think.
I love all four movies but don't forget the spin-off movie called Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿
Lucky last IP man 4 Donnie yens last movie ❤
There was a mistranslation when Bruce asked why Ip didn't accept him as a disciple. What Ip said was more like "I opened the door, you thought I asked you to leave"
Agreed, I watched the scene in Cantonese and Mandarin and both communicate this idea. Don’t know why it had to be translated in such an awkward way.
I saw a version that had it as, "I just opened the door. You're the one who chose to leave through it."
That’s some Marco Pierre White shit lmao
I think there's another part was also poorly translated.
29:30 FUN FACT: Donnie Yen actually broke Mike Tyson's pinky while blocking his punches with his elbows.
Yeah, it might have been the one shot when he was reeling back shaking his hand..
Fun fact:😂 the elbow is stronger than the fist. Wonder why elbows and knee have been banned from alot of competitions.
That doesn't sound fun at all!
fun fact : Donnie yen onced beat 8 men in clubs in 90s
Dont listen to what people say IPMAN 4 is amazing
It’s all subjective opinion of a piece of art, but I personally thought 4 was dog shit. Writing just nosedived. it honestly ruined most of the fights for me, especially the end fight with Scott adkins, and that’s so disappointing to me
I didn't care for 4 but maybe they will it just didn't feel like ip man
its the weakest of the 5 but its still really good
I think you got to use a comma😊

One of my favorite Martial Arts franchises of all time returns!
Just an incredible series of martial arts movies -- I'm happy to see y'all are continuing with them. :)
Ip man 4 is good too. People are just too nostalgic of the first two because that's where we got introduced to him.
I can’t get enough of these IP Man reviews with you two. It’s like watching it again for the first time.
I will say, I think Tyson is the only opponent that Ip never defeated and looked like he might’ve lost to. Tyson is such a power house and he has the speed to match
Jin Zhang who plays Cheung Tin Chi is in a spin-off movies called Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy, may wanna look into that after the last IP Man movie
Only 3 characters from IP MAN 3 return in this spin off: Cheung Tin Chi & his son and Ma King Sang (Mike Tyson aka Frankie lackey)
I do also recommend checking out Master Z: Ip Man Legacy. It focuses on Cheung Tin-chi and what he did after his fight with Ip Man.
Yeah please check this recommendation! This spin off movie is good too!
Disagree, that film is a disappointment
I do not recommend it. Couldn't even finish the movie it was such a disappointment...
Only 3 characters from IP MAN 3 return in this spin off: Cheung Tin Chi & his son and Ma King Sang (Mike Tyson aka Frankie lackey)
Totally agreed. " Master Z" is a spin off from ipman 3 and it branches out a new kung fu movie with michelle yeoh and tony jaa.
Wing Sing's passing felt so real (Ip Man's wife). They did really well making that couple seem real and I was invested! Donnie Yen has such a great 'calm' and friendly face that when he goes into 'Ah, so you have chosen death' mode, it's legit scary!

Love this movie and this series! I never would have watched these movies if I didn’t know you two were reacting to them!
Bruce Lee was an accomplished dancer during his time in Hong Kong. The fight at the end with long pole, butterfly swords (baat jam do), and finally unarmed were traditional wing chun techniques which was a fitting end to this film.

That woman who founded Wing Chun was Ng Mui (or Ng Mei), a Buddhist nun of China's famous Shaolin Temple. Ng Mui was recognised as one of the top five martial artists in China during the early 1700s.
You guys definitely have to watch Master Z - The Ip Man Legacy. It’s a spin off but it’s still an awesome addition to the series 😄
Yup..Master Z: Ip Man Legacy (2018) starring Max Zhang,Michelle Yeoh,Dave Bautista,Tony Jaa & Yuen Wah (aka Landlord from Kung Fu Hustle).Only 3 characters from IP MAN 3 return in this spin off: Cheung Tin Chi & his son and Ma King Sang (Mike Tyson aka Frankie lackey)
I love the two of you reacting to the Ip Man series. Keep em coming!
You both are awesome together when doing reactions. Can't wait to see what you both react to after the IP man series!
Only 3 characters from IP MAN 3 return in this spin off: Cheung Tin Chi & his son and Ma King Sang (Mike Tyson aka Frankie lackey)
John & Roxy, Greg & Roxy, whatever. Whenever The Reel Rejects & Roxy colab, it’s gold. 👍
Ive trained with butterfly knives and they can be a mother fucker to get skilled with. That part of that final duel with the butterfly knives is my favorite choreography in this series
Another Great reaction video! Couple things for to get ready for the 4th movie. It’s a “wooden man” (or wooden dummy or “muk yan jong”)
The Legend of Wing Chun can been seen in the film “Wing Chun” starring Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh.
The “true” origin of wing Chun is highly debated, but most martial arts of this era have their roots in the white crane style of Kung Fu.
Notes for Ip Man 3. Donnie Yen was a fan of Tyson. And as much as people were worried that Tyson would injure Donnie, it was Donnie who accidentally dislocated Tyson‘s finger
Also, the dancing scene was full circle cause Bruce was also cha cha champ in Hong Kong
Max Zhang got his own spinoff “Master Z: Ip man Legacy” with Bautista
Donnie Yen has just announced that Ip Man 5 is coming. Based on the poster, it looks like he'll be directing it.
yes!!!!! thank you for watching Asian films, and supporting us; while reacting to ipman!!!! It is one of my favorites!!!
The old umbrella master in this film played Leung Jan, the Wing Chun master in Sammo Hung’s film “Warriors Two”
Wing Chun is indeed an ancient tradition.
His older brother, Ip Chun, just turned 100 on July 10th!
my sifu is samual kwock had the honor to be taught by both ip chun & ip chin
missed the g out
It’s been a while, I hope they look at ipman 4 soon!!
The instrument that was tucking at your heartstrings, the violin-like, voice-like instrument is called an erhu, pretty sick instrument if you ask me
The Ip Man series is like the Fast and the Furious series. The more you dive into it, the sillier the action gets.
You guys should definitely watch Ip man 4 😁
there is a spinoff to this movie with that other guy
mike tyson actually broke his finger when donnie blocked his punch with his elbow in the fight scene between them
love this combo is good as ip mans combos
The 'device' Ip Man used for training is called Mook Yan Jong, which means The Wing-Chun Dummy, or Wooden Man Post or simply Wooden Dummy 👍
31:49
Fun fact
That was Master Law, (same guy who said the table was slippery)
This man gets no break and even worse in the next more TvT
If you enjoyed Max Zhang in this film you should watch the spin off MasterZ as he reprises he character in the movie. It’s really good just remember the guy who owns the bar is not the guy who died in Ip Max 1 , same actor different character xx ❤
Fun fact about the fights sences , they usually done on the day of the shoot. They don't do months in advance.
I loved your guys reaction up man 4 is amazing can’t wait for y’all’s to react to it :)
These movies in 8K would be outrageous
There's a spinoff movie with the cheung tin chi character (the other wing chun fighter) that's worth watching as well before ip man 4. It has bautista in it.
Yup..Master Z: Ip Man Legacy (2018) starring Max Zhang,Michelle Yeoh,Dave Bautista,Tony Jaa & Yuen Wah (aka Landlord from Kung Fu Hustle).Only 3 characters from IP MAN 3 return in this spin off: Cheung Tin Chi & his son and Ma King Sang (Mike Tyson aka Frankie lackey)
This is actually my favorite installment of the franchise, in terms of pure entertainment. Zhang Jin can move!
At the beginning of the movie it's called the Mook Jong/Wooden Man that is central to the empty hand forms of Wing Chun/Ving Tsun.
Those who love this character would love this movie❤😊
love roxy’s voice so much!! not sure if either of you already watch it, but if not, it would be great to watch y’all two react to the show warrior. it’s based off of bruce lee’s writing and is pretty incredible. i think y’all would love it
Thanks!
If you guys like Cheung Tin Chi, I suggested you guys can watch Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy (2018), with Michelle Yeoh and Dave Bautista. Very nice movie.
Also, you should watch Master Z: Ip Man Legacy for more of Cheung Tinchi's story
Only 3 characters from IP MAN 3 return in this spin off: Cheung Tin Chi & his son and Ma King Sang (Mike Tyson aka Frankie lackey)
The string instrument that you heard is Chinese fiddle call ER HU, and YES its has the same decible as a human voice. Its almost similar to Mongolian fiddle or Turkic and Arabic Rebab or Rababa. They only have 1 or 2 strings.
IP MAN real son IP Chun shows up in a film called Ip Man: The Legend is Born. Also many actors from the first 2 films are in the prequel.
The subtitle gone wrong when Ip Man was asking Bruce to teach him how to dance - re: why Ip didn't take Bruce Lee as his student.
The translation should have really been:
Ip explained to Bruce: "I have only opened the door. You (Bruce) have decided to walk out the door yourself!"
😉
Love ip man
and yall reaction
And those white socks ❤
Y’all should really watch master z: ip man legacy, it’s a spin off for the wing chin dude w Dave baustita and ip man: the legend is born, to see where ip man learned his wing chin style from also has ip mans real son in it and some other people you would recognize from other ip man movies!
At last !! Been waiting for this ❤
I knew she’d like Wing Chun’s invention by a woman, taught to a woman to get out of marrying a guy she didn’t wanna marry
As for Mike Tyson, he’s a fan of Ip Man and Donnie and Donnie’s a fan of Tyson, so they just took it from there
Donnie was afraid of getting injured, (for the sake of filming, not because he didn’t want to get hit by Tyson), but ironically, it would be Tyson that got injured twice, once from hitting those windows, and the other from hitting Donnie’s elbows
The choreography where Ip adjusts his strategy to attacking Frank’s lower body was actually Donnie’s on-the-spot idea and choreographed himself
Apparently the Chinese woman was his wife, the kid was his daughter, probably adopted ofc but not really known. The reason they tied was simply not to embarrass either actor, but Tyson doesn’t appear again in the series
Two themes you might have missed was the water part with Bruce Lee and Cheung Tin-chi’s style of Wing Chun
The water is a reference to Bruce’s later Philosophy to “be like water”, illustrated by Ip telling him essentially that he wasn’t supposed to kick the water, as a subtle way of telling him that you can’t just assume you need to attack everything that comes your way, you need to be malleable to the situation
The other is the the contrast between the hero and anti-hero’s use of the same style; Ip is graceful, reserved, and holds back from dealing crippling blows, while Tin-chi’s the opposite: brutal, forceful, and using moves that incapacitate enemies without mercy, a reflection of their ideologies
This is illustrated by Ip refraining from using a move that could have broken Frank’s leg, and if you notice, he also refrains from blinding Frank with the exact same move that Tin-chi uses against him, which could have won him the fight
This is to emphasize how Ip holds back to retain virtue even in battle, while Tin-chi just wants to get the job done at the expense of his opponents
Lastly, the final part of the fight was also to show Ip’s mastery of an aspect of Wing Chun that uses senses other than sight to his advantage; even blinded by the same move he refrained from using against Frank, his use of auditory cues allowed him to still land that match-winning one-inch punch
You really should watch Master Z, as it was a good conclusion to Tin-chi’s story since it picks up where Ip Man 3 left off, it has more brutal yet epic undertones, and it even shows you what happened to a certain other character from this movie.
Since it was implied Ip could have won against Frank, and the only reason Master Hung lost to Twister was because of his asthma, imo Hung is the best overall fighter of the series next to Ip in terms of skill
Final interesting notes: The dancing referenced Bruce Lee’s cha-cha championship, Cheung Tin-chi actually is based off a real Wing Chun master named Sum Nung, disciple of Yuen Kay-shan who supposedly went undefeated in over 1000 duels to the death and was actually Ip’s senior in Wing Chun; Sum Nung was known for actually having Tin-chi’s “might makes right” Philosophy, Ip Chun (Ip’s son depicted in the first movie) not only helped make the movies but also is still alive, being almost 100 years old, while his second son Ip Ching (depicted in this movie) who also helped as a consultant, unfortunately died three years ago, just a month after Ip Man 4 was released, and Chinese jokes are generally like that; you think they’re about one thing, but they turn out to be something else by the punchline
The Muay Thai actor is actually one of students from a Wing Chun master ( Samuel Kwok).
That guy also has his own movie the title is " Master Z (Ip MAN Legacy)"
We can actually notice that Donnie yen is getting slower in this movie.
that instrument when Ip Man was practising on his wooden dummy while his wife watches is a Chinese violin known as Er Hu...
WHEN WILL YOU GUYS REACT TO IP MAN 4?
The scene right here. I’ve actually worked with the long pole. Many of times haven’t done the butterfly swords just yet but I’m getting there.
If you like the side character of Cheung Tin Chi who loses to Ip Man you guys need to check out Master Z: Ip Man Legacy
39:24 The instrument is called "Erhu 二胡". It's a 2 string instrument.
Waiting patiently for Ip Man 4!
Hopefully you'll agree when you watch it. o7
The instrument is called an Erhu, it definitely lends itself to the sound of sorrow
It is a stringed instrument. Like a voilin. You play it with a bow. It’s called an Erhu
Watch ip man4! They are filming Ip man right now!
They are filming Ip man5 right now
I feel so bad for the wife, all she wanted was her family to be home and to be together but stuff keeps happening because this Society cannot run if Ip Man isn't fighting. I don't understand it. Nothing can go right if this man is not out there beating the crap out of half the people in the city 10 at a time.
I'm from Indonesia. ✌🏻
and nice to meet you, greetings to your friends ☺
