I remember reading the Death of Superman trade back in rhe 90's when it was still this event, and thinking there was no way Doomsday would have mopped up the Justice League like he did had the A squad been there. Back then the League was Booster Gold, a depowered Guy Gardner, Maxima, Fire, Ice and Bloodwynde who was just the Martian in disguise. They got the shit beat out of them, so if the mainline Leaguers were there, they'd have licked this thing no problem. Apparently, not, in fact the B and C squad back then lasted for longer against Doomsday than the A squad did in this movie, this was embarrassing. Still enjoyed this movie though. As for my favorite Superman stories, mostly I enjoy him with the Justice League, like Batman, I enjoy them in a team more than on their own, so various Justice League series. But solo; All Star Superman, when he fought the Elite, the Our World's at War arc in the early 2000's, his mullet era post Death of Superman because of how 90's it was, the rebirth era of Superman where he's married and a father, the current run is pretty fun so far.
There's never a point in this fight where Superman has the upper hand. That's the terrifying thing. At no point does it ever seem like even Superman is going to win this. He'll get a few good hits, and then Doomsday IMMEDIATELY turns it around.
@@digitaladventurer2142 Doomsday doesn't ''adapt'' as he fights. He just learned how to use his ''base'' abilities. The only version of Doomsday that ever adapted as he fought was Hunter Prey. Otherwise, he adapts when he dies. The only thing that can change while he fights are his bones protrusions. Also, let's not forget that Doomsday doesn't have any vital organs so he's a lot more tanky.
The whole “you’ve got me, but who’s got you” line was my favorite line from Superman with Reeves. It was said by Lois Lane when Superman saved her from a helicopter crash.
This is the life and Death of Superman come to life in the most epic way possible. The animation is so good and the quick debut of John Henry Irons appearing in this film to set up the next storyline is just perfect.
Irons was actually in an earlier movie. In a construction site, where Superman saves him. Just like he said. But if you don't know to look for him, you'll miss him
God every time I watch that scene of Bibbo on the pier I choke up. Him breaking down and asking God why he took Superman away and left a sinner like him on Earth hits so damn hard, really goes to show the love and appreciation people have for the Man of Steel. Hopefully James Gunns DCU replicates the same level of importance.
Superman’s death was so devastating that it even grieved Batman. That’s how you know the Dark Knight had a soft spot for him. Good for you, Bats! 😁😁😁🩵🩵🩵
It's a fun edition, in the comics we've seen doomsday fight off certain leaguers before the final Sups fight, in other editions he straight up fights sups from the jump, here he takes on every single leaguer we've been introduced to in earlier movies and it's bloody brutal. Really nails down how dangerous Doomsday is.
Once they're done with JL Apokolips, I want these 2 to react on Batman Gotham Knight (2008), a short movie anthology. Great animation and interesting take of persona of Bruce wayne as well as Batman ❤
Loved everything about the movie. Fight scenes are great, Doomsday is terrifying, Supes as his own problems and his relationship with Lois is handled very well. WW vs Doomsday was neat.
I recommend you to watch these animated stand alone films: Batman/Superman: public enemies, Batman/Superman: apocalypse, Superman: Red Son, Justice League: Crisis on two earths. When you finish DCAU, i hope you start watching the tomorrowverse next (the animation is quite different) the first movie from it is "Superman Man of Tomorrow"
I liked a lot this movie. In this universe we didn't have so much superman, the focus was mainly on batman, so it was great the fact that the movie was able to make superman so likeable and show what an impact he has on the entire world
Love you guys and can't wait for your reactions and thoughts later on. And also just wanted to say that this continuity is called the DCAMU (DC Animated Movie Universe) and not the DCAU (DC Animated Universe). They are two different universes.
I've been waiting for this reaction cos it's my favorite out of this animated universe, the action, the characters, the way they handled Superman and Lois, the emotion, damn it had me crying yo.
I don't understand why people think James Gunn is going to make any difference. Even if he does I think interest in the live-action movies is just gone now because so many superhero movies (Marvel and DC) have been underperforming lately.
I've been watching your guy's reaction to the dcamu movies since it began, coy and john, you both are awesome! Love your resting faces 😂 keep these DC reactions coming!
I love that we see John Henry Irons in Throne of Atlantis as a tease then in this and the next movie we see him shine as a character. The DCAMU did a great job of setup and payoff. And so far I think the Tomorrowverse is doing quite well! Ofc it's still early but the lineup thus far is stellar!
The voices of Superman and Lois Lane in most of these movies, Jerry O'Connell and Rebecca Romijjn (the OG Mystique in the X-Men films) are married in real life.
Man I love this animated series, and every time it just makes me want a dark marvel animated universe. It would be amazing to see dark Deadpool, X Men, midnight sons, Blade, etc. It would be amazing to finally get a universe like that. And I don't need super connected stories. Juat GOOD stories with little connective Easter eggs. It doesn't have to like lead into the next or fill in gaps from other animated films in the franchise. Single character studies of Silver Surfer, Dr. Doom, WonderMan... I'd be in heaven
My favorite change, is that Doomsday tore up a high power Justice League. I love most of the characters in the League he fought in the comics, but they were nowhere near this powerful
The thing that made this battle with the JL more badass is that in the comics they had the B-roster at the time. Doomsday absolutely annihilated the league. At least here they put up a some resistance.
I would love for them to watch the Superman doomsday movie came out I think like 2007. The entire film while quite goofy at times and I think the second half of it is quite strange. The doomsday and Superman battle is just so good in it
I recommend reading the original comic book. These days it’s mocked by most comic enthusiasts but I think that’s mainly because of what DC did afterwards. I’ve heard it called poorly drawn, stupid story, badly written…none of these things are true. It’s beautifully drawn, but purposefully dark, the story is simple but direct, it’s perfectly written and is one of the best comics I’ve ever read, and I’ve read a lot! Read it thinking of only who Superman is and what he represents, and most importantly read it as if it truly is the end of the series. Changes everything
I was just thinking about how much I was going to miss watching these on the weekends. And y'all surprised me with this. Thank y'all much. May Coy be safe, happy, healthy, gorgeous, hydrated, buff and well rested(or at least try to be well rested... I see he's been living of coffee on his stories😣) during his time away. He's very missed. 😭😭🥰
Already I can't wait for your reaction to the next part - Reign of the Supermen. I have a double feature version that plays both movies back to back as one long ass movie and I love it.
I like how Superman is in a danger room with Wonder Woman screwing around while people are dying in space. Like the Hall of Justice doesn't get warning alerts for stuff like that.
James Gunn neeeeds to watch this and adapt this to live action with his new Superman once his Justice League forms which should lead to Darkeid invasion afterwards.
These reactions are my favorite things to watch. You guys are always so wholesome with the reactions. You guys are like little kids watching these and I love it!
One of my favorite DC movies! Really glad you guys did this one and looking forward to Return! Would you guys consider doing a video for Superman Man of Tomorrow also?
I am commenting even before the reaction has begun becos i just had to acknowledge Coy. His energy has been contagious ever since he showed up, dude can hype up just anything and everything. His has done this channel a great service. Respect to you man❤
3:52 - He's also one of Clark Kent's most reliable informants about doc activity. He's used quite often to uncover malfeasance in that area when necessary.
This is my all time favorite from the DCAMU. In my top 3. Amazingly done film. Just imagine it in live action. Wow. Wish I could watch it again for the first time. 1) Death of Superman 2) Flashpoint Paradox 3) Dark Apocalypse War
Watch Justice League Doom and Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths! Please I've been spamming this for months, get them to see it! Both of those are sooooo goooood!

In the years to come a few witnesses will tell of the power of these final punches... they could literally feel the shock waves... others will remember the enormous crater that resulted from the sheer force of the blows. But most will remember this sad day as the day the proudest, most noble man they ever knew finally fell. For those who loved him.... one who would call him husband... one who would be his pal... or those who would call him son... this is the darkest day they could ever imagine. They raised him to be a hero... to know the value of sacrifice. To know the value of life. And for those who served with Superman in the protection of all life comes the shock of failure. The weight of being too late to help.... for a city to live, a man had given his all and more. But it's too late. For this is the day... ... That a SUPERMAN died.
love all your interactions, especially in this Full Saga. love you both.....and the other guy who supposedly is the Boss.....(i loved him also...) you helped me in in pretty dark time, thanks a lot!!!
If y'all ever get the chance you really need to watch Superman Doomsday. It's another iteration of this and its personally my favorite. It has the same animation style as like Justice League and Justice League unlimited but it's a little bit more adult in the way certain things happen. But it is such a good iteration. Some stuff happens differently.
I hope you watch "Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths". The DC animated movies that aren't part of the DCAU are actually pretty awesome. Also "superman vs. the elite"
Love this movie but I love the sequel to this movie even more, don’t worry they didn’t mess up he is still a very 90s character they didn’t go with the new 52 take thank goodness, am happy because he is my favourite superhero of all time. Superman doomsday was their first attempt of adapting the death of superman ark. Fun fact when Martha and Jonathan Kent listed Clarks ex girlfriends they said Lori Lemaris, who turned out to be a mermaid, even funnier it took Clark a while to figure it out.
8:31 Nope, it's Rainn Wilson whom I know best as Dwight Schrute from The Office, I believe he was previously voiced in this continuity by Steve Blum though 9:47 Hank is Patrick Fabian, he played Reese, Linda's ex-husband, in Lucifer
One of my favorite adaptations of this story is the novel "The Death and Life of Superman" by Roger Stern in 1994. I was twelve years old then and borrowed it from the School library.
I’ll give this movie credit for portraying Doomsday more accurately than the previous movies that depicted this storyline. It’s just a bummer that it exists in the DCAMU. Watching one of the lesser portrayals of Superman die isn’t as impactful as it should be. Plus, since he and Lois are barely together in this universe, her heartbreak barely works. In the comics, they were serious serious dating. It has the same issue as the Reign of The Supermen, where Lois can hardly tell who the real Superman is, where as in the comics, Lois knows Clark so we’ll, that she knows when the real one shows up with a single question. The DCAMU does what the DCAMU does best. Excels in the portrayal of violence, but greatly lacks in character.
- 30:55 - Wondering if the RR fellers didn’t react to the “You’ve got me? Who’s got you?” SUPERMAN ‘78 callback because they’ve never seen that movie somehow, or that they were so into the moment that they missed it? PS… GREAT Easter egg, with a helicopter involved & everything. Very clever & ALWAYS a delight to see a nod to Reeve's run. 😄 - Also think the fellers are thinking that the Fortress that appears at the end is "another" fortress, when, in this DCAU, it's the origin story for the Fortress, if I'm not mistaken. - I think it's ADORABLE that the Jerry O'Connell is paired with his IRL wife, Rebecca Romijn. PS... just like his LOWER DECKS character, his voice here is unrecognizable to me. - I agree with the fellers... there ARE some continuity issues in this universe. Like, yes, this Clark is nicer than previous iterations. I mean, dude straight up tried to MURDER Batman when they first met in JUSTICE LEAGUE: WAR. Batman throws away a line that kind of explains it, but still, if he landed ONE punch... yikes! They also randomly introduced Martian Manhunter & Hawkman w/o an origin story, and leave out Shazam (probably because his power set was comparable to Superman's, though I think there's a workaround). And sometimes the continuity works well, like when they plant seeds for future movies. And when you make a good movie, the a la carte nature of what gets put into these is forgivable, and this is a VERY good movie. That being said... - There's a connection here to a villain in the next one, and WOOF... I wish they came up with a better reason for that individual to break bad. - Honorable Mention... Batman... for somehow being almost the last leager standing after the initial confrontation with Doomsday, even though he's just a spooky rich guy in a Halloween costume. This was mostly because he was playing defense, but he was also sticking his neck out distracting Doomsday from injured leagers. Only wish he was doing more quarterbacking in that initial confrontation.
@@edinalewis4704 Well, yeah then... if you've only seen SUPERMAN `78 once, I could definitely see him missing it. That's a sham, because it was actually a pretty sweet callback.
That secret '90s character you're talking about, The one that you are worried that they may fuck up his costume design, they don't. They don't fuck it up at all. They do it justice. They're going to freaking love it. As a person who loves the reign of Supermen trust me when I tell you they do it right.
After you guys finish thise series, im looking forward to the various other animated films. A few batman, a couple superman, GL, a couple more justice league.

It's a tie between the Injustice storyline and The Death of Superman. All Star Superman is a close second.
I remember reading the Death of Superman trade back in rhe 90's when it was still this event, and thinking there was no way Doomsday would have mopped up the Justice League like he did had the A squad been there. I think you guys should check it out too
8:31 Nope, it's Rainn Wilson whom I know best as Dwight Schrute from The Office, I believe he was previously voiced in this continuity by Steve Blum though
9:47 Hank is Patrick Fabian, he played Reese, Linda's ex-husband, in Lucifer
One of my favorite adaptations of this story is the novel "The Death and Life of Superman" by Roger Stern in 1994. I was twelve years old then and borrowed it from the School library.
I hope no one ruins these upcoming stories for John!
Love this reaction and love that end discussion!
Both of you guys are great dudes and i enjoy you guys reacting to movies together. Hope this continues for a long time 😁👍🏾
- 30:55 - Wondering if the RR fellers didn’t react to the “You’ve got me? Who’s got you?” SUPERMAN ‘78 callback because they’ve never seen that movie somehow, or that they were so into the moment that they missed it? PS… GREAT Easter egg, with a helicopter involved & everything. Very clever & ALWAYS a delight to see a nod to Reeve's run. 😄
- Also think the fellers are thinking that the Fortress that appears at the end is "another" fortress, when, in this DCAU, it's the origin story for the Fortress, if I'm not mistaken.
Coy has seen it, he reacted to it on the channel pretty recently. But it’s definitely not deeply ingrained in his psyche though.
@@edinalewis4704 Well, yeah then... if you've only seen SUPERMAN `78 once, I could definitely see him missing it. That's a sham, because it was actually a pretty sweet callback.
Can't wait for the final movie
Absolute roller-coaster
Dude I remember when this comic hit stores.. and then the others that follow along with it. I still have one of the copies.
Much love to you guys❤❤
That secret '90s character you're talking about, The one that you are worried that they may fuck up his costume design, they don't. They don't fuck it up at all. They do it justice. They're going to freaking love it. As a person who loves the reign of Supermen trust me when I tell you they do it right.
This one got me. Out of nowhere too, I know this story, but BAM! Feels.
Great stuff youse two.
After you guys finish thise series, im looking forward to the various other animated films. A few batman, a couple superman, GL, a couple more justice league.
the continued jokes about driving got me😂
