Steven this is such a brilliant episode, I have learned a lot from this conversation between you and Dr Julie Smith. Powerful and thought provoking 👌. Big thumb up to and your team for producing such a top notch and high quality video ✨. Also, your hair looks super smart, which hair product are currently using? I am interested for sure 💪.
So glad you are doing extra shows. I love the podcast, found you via Molly Mae & have been working my way through the old episodes aswell. I thought a good episode would be for you to answer the questions which have been left in the diary usually for your next guest? Would be interested to hear you answers!!
Almost 30 years ago I was climbing in the Alps and suffered a fall with severe hip, knee, shoulder, spine and brain injury. I could no longer climb and after 6 solid months in a neurology ward in a hospital 6000 miles from home, learning to walk, talk and cope with my new reality, I was told I could never return to my medical career. Upon returning home I did not remember my wife or children…I started all over again. I was so bound to my career and my climbing accomplishments that my first decision was to commit suicide. But I couldn’t drive to the mountain where I decided to die. I experienced severe anxiety for almost 10 years. I had to unlearn the centrality of my work ethic to my ‘personhood’ that I had created. I had to learn to be honest with myself. Jordan Peterson said something profound that altered my way of coping. “Strive to be good. And if you are happy along the adventure of your life you are very fortunate”. I had to stop being all the jobs and persona’s that I wanted people to think of me as and start simply being honest. Within weeks my anxiety, panic attacks and constant agonizing stress vanished. I am not who I was. I am who I am. I am what I say, do and think now. Today. I still suffer memory loss and aphasia, time loss and constant migraines… I become foggy after several minutes of concentration on any task. I am not the same person. But I am intellectually intact. I am still married, now 40 years, my children and grandchildren love us. But above all I am now honest. Julie is right…we have to change to survive. We have to develop coping strategies that are successful…not convenient. We have to seek out the best things that are an honest reflection of who we are. This was another great video! Thanks much for another thoughtful analysis.
Wow! Whatever your Karma was, it made you who you were, and who you are now. As the old cliché goes; "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger." You have conquered the life you chose, despite the challenges. Your strength is admirable. Here's to 2023...🌠💫💓
Overthinking and anxiety can be overwhelming and exhausting. To detach from these feelings, it's important to practice mindfulness, focus on the present moment, and engage in activities that bring you joy. Try to challenge negative thoughts and reframe them in a positive light. Remember to prioritize self-care and seek support from loved ones or a mental health professional if needed. With time and effort, you can detach from overthinking and anxiety and cultivate a sense of inner peace and calm.
Indeed. Many people are their own worse enemy in that regard. It comes from losing your objectivity which is easily done. No matter how much training you have or how intelligent you are. As we see here, even a psychologist does things she'd normally spot straight away in a patient but she can't see herself doing often. Because doesn't have the same objectivity as when dealing with patients. It's just the nature of being human and the whole nature of ego and conscious thought. We tend to be very critical of ourselves and prone to self-doubt some of us. Anxiety disorders are often a learned behaviour, a negative bias outlook and feedback loop which as you say, you can detach from by developing mindfulness which is a very powerful tool I recommend. I learned that myself through CBT after suffering with anxiety for years. When you practice mindfulness you regain objectivity and are able to recognize thoughts and feelings as being irrational and unhelpful, so can learn to change how you think and behave. When you learn mindfullness and start applying it in your daily life it's like a relevation if you suffer from anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, compulsive/addictive behaviours or whatever. Suddenly you realise that you don't have to feel and experience that or think that way anymore. Some people have been doing it for so long, often most their lives, it seems normal, and even comfortable to them often. For many people it's a kind of self-protection mechanism against fear or rejection, or a way of coping with unresolved past trauma in their lives. We create our own realities in the mind which is an incredibly powerful thing as we've seen from many of Darren's experiments. Interestingly, although psychology is still a developing medical science and tools like mindfulness have only started to become more widely adopted in clinical practice fairly recently relatively speaking, if you study the ancient religion and philosophy of Buddhism, it has all these tools incorporated. It's likely the source of mindfullness and how it got incorporated into modern psychology. Practising daily mindfulness, thought and action/cause and effect awareness and controlling the mind through meditation are core teachings of Buddhism which the Buddha gained through Enlightenment. Quite incredible really for a religion 5,000 years old. It's a very practical largely science-based belief system that puts central importance on understanding and improving your own mind and behaviour,. In doing so, you're making life for yourself and others better, from developing awareness and compassion for yourself and others.
I also like to do negative reframing . Where I keep the negative but I add some insight or perspective that makes it bitter sweet or funny or interesting or whatever else that helps
I’m 56 - I can say anxiety has ruined my life. It’s like having a bad itch in every cell of your body - you can’t just ignore it or concentrate on something else to make it go away by. Or it’s like a bad flu that you want to feel better but you can’t because your sick. Terrible affliction. A massive weight that makes you feel like your drowning in mental discomfort. Makes me want to scream in anger just writing this comment.
From a total Lifetime of severe Anxiety , Anorexia with binge purge subtype and stress this vlog is absolutely mindblowingly brilliant and so easy to understand as well my Lovely Xxx
Yes, great advice, its all based on Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) with some Mindfulness therapy blended in. Nothing new here, just gets overlooked by most psychodynamic therapists.
*In a world full of negativity, your videos are a breath of fresh air. Your messages resonate deeply, and I appreciate the positive vibes. Keep spreading the motivation!*
Randomly discovering Dr.Julie Smith now on TH-cam and it literally lands in my life at the perfect time. I ve been my own therapist/confident/best friend/worst enemy for as long as I remember and listening to her tackle so many mental/behavioral issues we all encounter as humans are some point, truly makes my day!.. I also realize how much my accute intuition, self awareness, resilience, empathy, ability to question everything and be curious rather than judgemental, truly saved me from going down the dark bottom spot that many cannot come back from. I ve always been drawn to psychology and the human behavior, and because of my natural people skills and empathy, it drew a lot of people of all psychological patterns to me. I m grateful to be listening to someone like Dr.Smith talk so genuinely and truthfully about everything I already knew and practiced. Sitting with your thoughts without the escapist quick fixes of the many things we rush to in order to avoid uncomfortable painful feelings is by far the toughest thing I ve done so far a d that she describes so accurately. Sending love and support to everyone struggling today 🙏🏽❤️ With time, awareness, patience, compassion, and love, there is always a light at the end of that dark tunnel ✨️
I’m so glad dr julie mentioned the idea of “don’t love anybody else until you love yourself.” I’ve often think that I need to master self love before I even put myself out there & it just makes me feel so anxious as to what does that even look like?? How does one reach there? The standard has put so much pressure on me personally. Thanks so much for making me feel like it’s ok not have to live up to that standard ❤
The game changer for me was realising I don’t have to react to every thought I have. If it’s a thought I don’t like I can just sit there observe it with no judgment or reaction and keep going about my day.
Psilocybin saved my life. I was addicted to heroin for 15 years and after Psilocybin treatment I will be 3 years clean in September. I have zero cravings. This is something that truly needs to be more broadly used in addiction treatment.
Psychedelics definitely have potential to deal with mental health issues such as anxiety and depression, I would like to give them a try but haven't found any legit grower to get it.
A lot of people have testified about this and I really want to give it a shot. I put so much on my plate and it definitely affects my stress and anxiety levels
People don’t understand the way the mind works. That’s why so many of us suffer with anxiety. The amazing thing is that most non clinical mental health issues and many quite severe clinical disorders, are very well managed by simply grounding ourselves and effectively teaching our mind to focus on the here, and the now! Taking control of your mental health will be one of, if not the most liberating experience you will ever have. The problem is however, it usually takes people to be in a very bad place in order to receive help with their mental health. If anyone here is experiencing problems. I sincerely hope that you can get the help that you need. As the late great Sigmund Freud said and I quote: “The aim of Psychological Therapy is to transform neurotic misery into common unhappiness.”
I really appreciate your attention to offering info to the many who can never hope to afford access to therapy. It is a real barrier for so many. Something I have railed against in mental health crises that our family has faced. Thank you!
Here is how to stop overthinking.... Go spend time in nature. Go camping for three months, or as long as possible. When we live in the moment in nature, we experience the glory of clarity.
BEST MEDICINE E V E R !!!!……..also, babysitting my very small 16 month old grandson, keeps me in the here and now …..I’m very very focused. I am in Bliss when I’m taking care of him I don’t have time to worry about anything! Lol
The one week I spend in the forest--without electricity, phones, etc.--every year is easily the best I ever feel. Physically, emotionally, psychologically... it all feels... just right. Millions of years of evolution can't be wrong.
I absolutely love Dr Julie Smith. To hear her open up and let us know that she’s an introvert and has to juggle things too, is really enlightening. She’s an amazing role model and so informative. Great episode!
This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my TH-cam channel 2 months ago about self development. Now I have 182 subs and almost 82 hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I couldn’t have learned without getting started in the 1st place.
It's been a beneficial conversation to listen to. I've found it refreshing to hear a mother who is successful and talks so positively around motherhood and making decisions with her children in mind. In a society that stigmatises motherhood, this voice has been appreciated.
I enjoyed studying psychology in university and while in the military, now using it daily to teach martial arts. Helping people to overcome fears and learning how to reach their full potential. People have no idea how to become the powerful beings they were created to be. Helping others is the greatest reward and it's very good therapy for all.
This is the type of nutritional substance that is born out of social media. Inquisitive and scientific approach to our daily activities. Thanks to Dr Julie and Steve
As someone who does therapy and values it’s immensely, there still seems to be a little taboo for men to do it and talk about it. It’s conversations like this that make it available to everyone. Can’t wait for the two episodes next week x
There’s still the stigma that men showing emotions is a sign of weakness. That a true man never cries, or even has feelings. Luckily that type of thinking is going away, but it’s still very much prevalent in our society
Well as a guy, a knowledge addict and a born over thinker, I however have grown beyond societal expectations, norms, stigma and and because I have self respect, and just chose to rise above such trivial nonsense, but I still don't reveal my emotions because I haven't found anyone worthy or otherwise savy enough to understand them. Spent most of my life alone, 1 or 2 honest friends, and valued my isolation to garner wisdom I think few would ever achieve. That now the most difficult part, is finding someone to speak to on the same lvl let alone share your deepest emotions with. But thats just me of course. Hehehe it however doesn't take much for others to throw all their emotional baggage onto me you see. Men or woman, and I know why, as being able to connect with them from just a simple few words spoken reveals all they are. Most people are not complicated, and if your a professional at observing the consistencies of life, then nothing remains new for very long.
I totally agree with the point about the idea of behaving in line with our values. I felt lost and depresses in the past when I lost the connection with my core values as I was trying to be something I am not.
Hey, man! I'm from Ukraine and I love your podcast. I don't know what's happening in those brains who don't appreciate your work, probably it's just a jealousy. You deserve every single dollar you get. I wish you to have endless inspiration and more outstanding guests in your show! We all love you and appreciate you! Even those who pretend to not or don't understand how valuable your work is.
I really enjoyed this podcast. What a great guest. Therapy can be so damaging if you don’t know what to look for in a therapist. There’s loads of useful information here.
Wow, I finally heard someone else share the pattern of chasing a woman and then running away if they respond! This was my pattern for years. Thanks for your honesty.
Having passed on this video because it seemed too long, I’ve found it fascinating, utterly engaging and massively helpful to spend time listening to these two wonderful people. So down to earth, honest and relatable. Thank you both for a super episode ❤
Making meaningful change is like turning around an ocean liner. It takes time. I have also learnt that it is not a good idea to change too many things at once. Make a single chance, bed it down so it sticks. Then change another aspect of your life and so on
Hello there! Firstly, I'd like to thank you , for inviting Dr Julie on your channel & discussing such important topics that almost everyone of us go through either once. It's been a while since I've joined Dr.Julie's official youtube channel & it helped me a LOT. As mentioned in the video, 🔸anxiety & 🔸stress is something that can be pretty 🔹overwhelming & even 🔹frustrating sometimes, and all of us go through a certain period where we face these things.Lately, I've been a lil' stressed out due to some issues & my goals as well because, you know I've always had some ▪dreams & 🔸aims & some 🔹plans for my ✴future & ✴career, ✴my studies and, it's like, just a start for me to implement my thoughts in practical life, as I've made a step forward for myself, by that, I mean I've started setting goals & I'm trying my best to achieve them. I'm just an 8th standard student, but there's a lot that I've planned for myself, s everyone do. I believe that there isn't a specific age for, you know, 🔷planing and 🔶aiming for things. Dr.Julie's channel helped me so much to cope up & tackle with my stress & struggles. I truly appreciate how she shares her therapies with us & the way she utilizes her study of psycology other than her profession, here on TH-cam. THANK YOU.❤
I actually had a discussion with myself, over a decade ago, where I was sitting waiting for someone, and I was debating with myself whether or not the person I was waiting for even liked me (yes, it was a girl I liked). I realized that my thoughts on the matter wouldn't matter until she got there and I could see and experience what she felt and thought about me, so I made a deal with myself to stop overthinking as soon as I was aware of it. So, little by little, I stopped the harmful overthinking and though it still pops up from time to time, especially in times of emotional stress, I can deal with it better than I did when I was younger. It is like debating whether there will be rain tomorrow or not. You can't affect it, so you only have to take a bit of precaution not to get wet if it does start to rain. I also made a deal to avoid getting upset if I forgot it a few times, as overthinking is quite normal. What I still do, and what I hate, is when embarrassing moments from the past pop into my head in the most unlikely situations. Not sure if that is just me, but as I have gathered, it is not.
just one thing to stop overthink: if it makes me feel uncomfortable, i wont respond, i wont care. I wont ever make any excuses for words or actions that make me feel weird anymore. I have come to learn that when i dont feel happy in that relationship, i run from the fire, not jump in to infinite confirm that the fire is dangerous.
Anyone watching this who thinks "But I don't have any mental health issues" I highly recommend you either read or listen to Dr Julie's book, I have listened to the audiobook twice and both times I have recognised traits that I have that are not issues but it is great to understand them more, Another brilliant guest on the Diary of a CEO
Mr Bartlett has proved to be such an inspiring individual, one of my favourite people to follow. Incredibly articulate and produces such fascinating content
Huge thank you Steven. This is the only show on the Internet I watch that has great meaning.educational as well as entertaining. There is nothing else quite like this. I recommend this to everyone, especially my 16 and 18 year old son and daughter. Fantastic show I love it 😍
I went through this and the best way to do it is stop being attached to the outcome, more specifically, what could have been. I say "what could have been" because you're not attached to what is. You're attached to making it what you thought it was going to be. Once you can let go of what "could have been" you truly let go and it leaves your mind slowly, but it starts to keave. You have to surrender completing your mission. And just say it's gonna happen the way it's suppossed to
Although I felt uncomfortable at times because I felt like I was eavesdropping on a private therapy session, I really found this interview particularly insightful. Thank you, Julie Smith! Thank you, Steven! I wish you both the best!
Dr. Julie is great! I really enjoy her social media clips on you tube too. Also thank you Steven for making me aware of all of the great people that are so inspiring.
The thing i have learnt is that perfection does not exist because if it did what challenges would we then strive for. We need to do the best we can in the moment and then the next day reflect and improve where ever we can.
Over 54 years my anxiety hits me really fast. I’m a fitness professional and my body is in a really fit state. The anxiety can build me the worst stomach ache in about 1 minute of not thinking clearly and I barrel up in the abdominal area. I’ve done breathing techniques for years now when this happens but now I have it down Pat in 4 breaths I breath in the good and breath out as long as I can the past and the bad. It works like no tomorrow. It was something I just tried about a month ago because the breathing in for 4 sec hold for 7 seconds and Brest out for 8 seconds took about 5 solid minutes to shift . This new method of breath in the best future and breath out the bad feelings of the past as long as I can is so quickest and fastest way to get back to centre.
I love the podcast but sometimes, intended or not, some of the guests can come across as they are preaching to us but this was really genuine advice from someone who practices her own techniques, is very down to earth and genuinely wants to help. Thank you.
This is the first time I listen to a psychologist or psychoanalyst that I find down to earth and say things how they are,,,, ...loved it...yes, I agree with that stupidity about loving yourself before you love someone..I had an amazingly loving husband for 30 years until he passed away...and don't know if at that time 20yrs old I loved myself..I know we adored each other and wanted to be together doing things together
I was forced into it but I am so glad that I am doing therapy. Due to the therapy, I now know how to correctly handle my emotions. I've been in therapy since October 2022 and there is zero cons. I recommend therapy to everyone.
This podcast sets the bar of my engagement, enjoyment, and the usefulness to me, extremely high, and it keeps hitting that bar and sometimes even raising it further... so no pressure to Steven or to Dr Julie Smith but you must not stop doing what you do. What you do here is greatly appreciated and greatly helps.
LOVED this interview! I loved her and her personality, her views, her insights…she’s brilliant, and I didn’t know her, Thank you Steven, again, for introducing me to a wonderful human being, and thank you for being such an amazing interviewer, you make all of us feel “at home” and welcomed ♥️
positive energy with high self confidence people are best preferrred by those a bit confused or need to verbalize!! unlike try to mingle with negative energy people may cause bad thoughts transfer which leads to mal functioning bahaviour
I was already a little over 6 months in therapy, i felt stuck in my life and was hard coping with my anxiety, per my physiologist it was best to stay away from social media and one day out of many months not using social media i wanted to get distracted, i was in a low spot even with the therapy i was taking it helped but i still felt very stuc and anxious, i saw Dr. Julie's video of anxiety i instantly reflection and helped me out so much, i will always remember that ♥I never miss her videos :) Thank you for your amazing job Dr. Julie
literally starting watching these about 1 week ago. It was the Gary Neville one that got me, i must admit, I find these podcasts more educational and the topics that get spoken about hit home in a way i'd never imagine. PLEASE KEEP THESE COMING THEY'RE HAVING A MASSIVE IMPACT ALREADY IN THE WAY I CAN DEAL WITH CHALLENGING THINGS! THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!
I guess that they was talking about predictability in people. Predicting what could be happening but in negative way. I'm not sure about stuff about overthinkinng i know is on spot or not. Like when two in relationship. They also doubted about their relationship, they did not believe in their faithful, and just thinking of something in negative way, example, when man or woman just did hang out with their friends and did not answer or reply the message of another one, they will predict that the other was cheating or doing something wrong with the other and affected on their relationship. That is overthinking. Or when something happened with your friend, and their face showed really mad when they were with you and then you predicted that you was doing something that made your friend mad and you was trying to calm your friend down and blame on yourself. Or just about normal message but you afraid of and predicted that is abnormal message like your friend mad or not happy with you that you avoided to read or reply( that is my situation)
This Lady is so wonderful I’ve followed her on TikTok and Instagram for a few years and she has been a great help ! I was so pleased to see she was your guest !
I’m a Content Creator and I relate to this so hard. Social media is so bad for our mental health and is only causing us to miss out on so much of real life. I really hope to make TH-cam my main platform in the future so that I can delete everything else! Love the video and will be following your journey 🥰🦋
Wow! Loved this interview. I think Dr. Julia’s intrigue and connection for me comes not just from her knowledge, but her honesty, vulnerability and I would say genuine need to help others.
All who read this message, may love and abundance flow into your life. 💖 Embrace the positive energy, and know that you are deserving of joy and prosperity. May your path be filled with blessings. 💖✨
Dr Julie's videos are super EFFECTIVE... gets the point across in minutes... She deserves all that comes her way... THANK YOU Dr Julie. With love from SA 🇿🇦
This was one of my favourite episodes yet! I found it super beneficial and highlighted a lot in my personal life for me. Thank you for another great episode & an amazing guest🙏🏻
Beautiful sharing. I have been working on myself for 10 years, learning and growing. Then helping people on the way and has been an amazing experience mixing music, meditation and stress management. I am integrating my passions and has NOT BEEN AN EASY PROCESS, but I have that sense of mission and joy to share what it worked for me and others. MENTAL HEALTH is one part of the puzzle, try to see the WHOLE and use strategies to become stronger and develop what I call: TOTAL SUSTAINABLE HEALTH. Is possible! :) Big hug from China ❤
Really interesting discussion. I liked how both interviewer and interviewee made it personal to themselves too. Our feelings, thoughts and emotions are valid. Living life relative to our core values so important. Thank you!
There have been so many wonderful insights from many different people, I am really getting so much benefit from these. This one is a gem 💎. Thank you Steven for sharing this knowledge with us ❤
In the process of building a Proactive Corporate Wellbeing Programme for businesses and then you deliver this team Bartlett 🙌🏻 Forever in your debt for the continued value that you add to both me personally and to our business 🙏🏻
You are both lovely persons, bright and very caring! Thanks for your depth and the desire to help others! Here's my own gift to help you and everyone out there: the world (and the people in it) can only give you so much peace or solace. Pretty soon the human concoctions (especially pills and remedies of all types) will falter or wear off. Knowing how the brain operates, and how predictable humans are, is very helpful, but not enough. When I was 23, my mom told me that she had turned me over to the Lord as a baby (much like Hannah did Samuel in the Bible). This instantly turned a light bulb on in my mind, explaining why I loved to listen to sermons, go to church, and had such a peace (even in the most troubling situations). Christ said he would give us an eternal peace that would pass all understanding-- a peace that the world could not give. If you repent (turn from your sins), believe in Him and follow His way, you too can have that eternal calm. Tuning in to Dr. Julie every day is probably edifying, but why not meet The Great Counselor for advice that will not fade away? Why not get therapy from The Great I Am, who never changes? I say these things not to preach, but because I love you. This is the key you've been looking for all your life-- why not use it and know joy everlasting, as opposed to mere fleeting human pseudo-satisfaction?
We've all been there - caught in the mental spiral of overthinking. It starts innocently enough, maybe replaying a conversation or analyzing a decision. But soon, it consumes our thoughts, leaving us feeling paralyzed and overwhelmed. Here's why overthinking can be a dangerous game
Just want to say (again) that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this channel and you are a brilliant interviewer!! I watched an interview with her a few weeks ago made by Ali, and with all my fondness to him, it really was not interesting and a bit boring and chaotic, I couldn't finish it... ALL your interviews are so captivating and amazing in content and angle of questions, I honestly prioritise them over work atm lol
Hi, I'm really touched by this brilliant and educational video. I'm an artist, it's taking me a live time to assume that there is a reason for it, been sensitive and perceptual, and then what that brings with it, as anxiety, too much sensitivity and panic. Spend half of my life to understand it, and accept that been different its just fine. Your mind tends to trouble you, that's fine, breathe. Learn to Love yourself and be kind to the good people around you. Detach from the toxic ones, they are not worth it. Thanks.
Wow that episode really hit home. I suddenly found the reason why I trash every relationship I get in when I get to a certain point. Its like I can find a red flag with anything it doesnt matter how small it is and that's it then I'm off on my way convincing myself that that small reason is more than enough to leave that relationship in the past. I guess knowing this and reprogramming myself when I feel it happening next time is the challenge but at least it makes sense now why I do it. Couple that up with a tweet I recently read "Every one of my exes has gone on to meet the love of their lives right after me-always genuinely fantastic people, often extremely intelligent and kind. Meanwhile I'm having to face the fact that I may well be the problem." I guess it's time to face up to my weaknesses and try to develop 😬 Thank you
I respect Dr Smith so much, I find her so helpful in my day to day life. Thank you for featuring Dr Smith on your channel. I find your channel a great source of interesting information. Thank you Steven.
I'm not sure how helpful this video really is. I might do lots of sit ups, become rich beyond my wildest dreams and marry a supermodel or I might not. It is still not decided how my future will go after watching this video.
It would be great to get more interviews from self-made entrepreneurs especially those from poor backgrounds. Not knocking this but you've had loads of psychologists and happiness experts already.
My goal was to talk walk again I can now I have hypoxia brain injury I died 26minutes spent weeks months in coma rehab hospital learning talk walk again been a recovery massive discovery never ever give up on yourself many will never yourselves keep going doing amazing things considering doctors saying I will never talk walk again been a long journey one I'm still on sometimes gets hard stay strong stay positive stay safe everyone takecare becareful out there dont let guards down sending luck hugs prayers most of all love from UK takecare x
I understand the concept of doing something for the masses rather than 1 on 1 for a wider reach and impact the many. But the true life changing moments happen on a 1 on 1 basis.
I've suffered for over 10 years, and quiet badly as of late. I was doing some research as to how to naturally help my anxiety, and I found that magnesium can help. I have been taking it for 2 weeks and I have seen such a difference. Definitely give it a try.
From today we will be releasing two episodes a week every week, Monday and Thursday… and what an episode to start with! Dr Julie Smith has been a sensation on tiktok with education around mental health and today she shares those insights with us.

BRILLIANT Steve & Julie 🙏🙏
One of the mostvaluable conversations I’ve listened to here. Thank you 🙏🏻

Almost 30 years ago I was climbing in the Alps and suffered a fall with severe hip, knee, shoulder, spine and brain injury. What a horrific journey! Kudos to you and your family for being able to continue together.
Wow! Whatever your Karma was, it made you who you were, and who you are now. As the old cliché goes; "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger." You have conquered the life you chose, despite the challenges. Your strength is admirable. Here's to 2023...🌠💫💓
can you please explain how your anxiety, panic attacks and constant agonizing stress vanished
thank you
Overthinking and anxiety can be overwhelming and exhausting.
Thx🙏 saved me from watching the vid got goosebumps already
The biggest point is “focus present moment “😊

I am only half way through the video... This lady is the real deal... The world needs more women like you..
I’m so glad dr julie mentioned the idea of “don’t love anybody else until you love yourself.”
I’ve often think that I need to master self love before I even put myself out there & it just makes me feel so anxious as to what does that even look like?? How does one reach there? The standard has put so much pressure on me personally. Thanks so much for making me feel like it’s ok not have to live up to that standard ❤
achievements, outwork your self doubt !!
Yes, that sentence is perfectionist motto. That won't do any good. Just anxious life and being ungrateful to people and things you have in life
If things become difficult, " I know I will have my own back" love this!
I started following her on tiktok at the beginning of Covid, it's amazing how fast she has grown...clearly the world seems to need her.
she's brilliant!
@@TheDiaryOfACEO yeah Steve and I’m 38 haha I think she definitely can help a big range of ages. Thank you for what you do man
The game changer for me was realising I don’t have to react to every thought I have.

I find myself returning to this podcast anytime I am experiencing self doubt, overthinking, and anxiety. I always feel better afterwards
As the late great Sigmund Freud said and I quote:
“The aim of Psychological Therapy is to transform neurotic misery into common unhappiness.”
Lol
Thank you for reminding me. I have lost what I learned 50 years ago: being nature is essential for my mental health.
The one week I spend in the forest--without electricity, phones, etc.--every year is easily the best I ever feel. Physically, emotionally, psychologically... it all feels... just right. Millions of years of evolution can't be wrong.

I'm my own CEO of my overthinking brain. Thank you you much for getting Julie on. I really appreciate it
This is the type of nutritional substance that is born out of social media.
Do you offer free therapy, over the phone maybe?
What on earth are you talking about? What were you trying to be? A teapot? A giraffe?

Not sure if that is just me, but as I have gathered, it is not.
this is a super wonderful way to put it, thank u for this!
The embarrassing moments popping up is definitely a thing
Love this lady she cares so very much, craving acceptance, she nails it in every conversation 💜
just one thing to stop overthink: if it makes me feel uncomfortable, i wont respond, i wont care.

I recommend this to everyone, especially my 16 and 18 year old son and daughter.
Fantastic show I love it 😍
Its just REBT, ACT and mindfulness, this approach has been around since the 50/60s, she puts it across easily thought

Thank you.
Her book is so incredible a must read for any one! Such a great guest and episode!

I'm sorry, I think I got lost, in which part do they specifically talk about overthinking??

Her book, "Why has nobody ever told me this before?" is a good read and it does help.

Meanwhile I'm having to face the fact that I may well be the problem."
I guess it's time to face up to my weaknesses and try to develop 😬
