guineas, turkeys, geese, ducks and chicken are what we raised on the farm I grew up on. Geese were the cutest chicks followed by turkeys. Turkeys used to get spooked when I would make a particular sound with my ROLLING tongue...the would squat and hide. They were the only chicks to do this.
malcorub Yeah, that's the alert sound a mother turkey makes to warn of danger, the babies know what it means and run for immediate cover. I would suggest you only make the sound when there is something to run from or maybe take them outside into a separate fence when they're old enough and keep watch for any gliding big birds overhead, then make the sound, they'll likely hide under you like mine did when I did this. Usually I 'think' making this sound when there is no danger could make them stupider and less afraid of things that could actually harm them, I don't know for sure, as I didn't do this, nor did either of my parents ever tell me what would happen to them.
it is turkey hatching season in my area and we see hens with their babies quite frequently. sometimes we only see their heads above the grass and if stray too far the hen will give a soft cluck and all the babies come running. in March we also saw turkeys match in the yard.
The young in all species are Cute and playfull, with the exception of maybe, Reptiles
Birds are such fascinating creatures. I'm weird because I could sit and watch any animal all day.
