      pixiecropolis I did notice quite a few videos that I’m interested in watching, also some that I think my son would enjoy. We were just discussing the Titanic yesterday so I’ll play that video this evening when we are all home from work and school. I saw many videos on various Boston / Massachusetts/ New England topics, I’d love to see your experiences in my neck of the woods! The other travel videos look very interesting as well. We enjoy history and travel in our home and I see that you’ve got those topics covered. Oh, at least one other 🦃 video and a baby fowl thumbnail that we will have to check out!
      It looks as though you’ve got many videos of interest for myself and my family so I subscribed.
      I look forward to catching up with your 100+ pre-existing contributions to TH-cam and any further that you post. Thank you for your kind reply Dave. Have a wonderful week! ❄️🏈🦞🧣⛄️Mel

    A long time ago, we were attending a local church function around Thanksgiving. We had our 4 year old in tow, he was getting bored, my wife was busy, and I was even more bored than the baby. He came up to me, and said "Daddy, come see the turkeys." I assumed he was talking about picture the day care kids had posted up on the walls. I declined and continued to read my book. Alan was quite persistent, pulling my leg, "Come see the turkeys!" I relented and walked with him to a large picture window. My first ever encounter with wild turkeys, about 15 of them. They lived in a patch of woods across the street from the church, and were having a grand time, knowing that it was their cousins and not them who would be served up the following week. Suburban Atlanta, around 1988. I learned that afternoon that when the kid says, "Daddy come see the ....." it's probably best to go with him. I still do.

    I didn't know they could fly until one day I saw them taking off at our backyard to the top of the tree. It looks like they could only handle short distance flying since they are so heavy.

    I knew they could fly. I almost got blasted by one that flew over the road. It takes awhile for them to get high enough to clear the car. I thought it was coming through the windshield. He made it but I nearly peed my pants.

    Is this where they make their nests?

    • @pixiecropolis
      @pixiecropolis  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, Luanne, turkeys don't nest in trees. They only sleep in them for protection. They do however build nests in deep underbrush to hatch their eggs. Dave

    I wonder where they raise their young

    • @pixiecropolis
      @pixiecropolis  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In fields and woods. The mother builds a hiding place for them when they are really small, but they grow quickly, and are able to follow the mother to forage. As they get bigger, they can start to fly a little, and will eventually follow the mother up into the trees at night. I have seen a mother fly from the nest to draw away a hungry fox. She flew only a few feet from the ground, so the fox thought he had a chance to catch her, but the babies remained safe. Dave Welsh

    What about mom's,do they stay with babies on ground?🤔🤔

    • @pixiecropolis
      @pixiecropolis  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the moms hide the babies in the brush. They have the instinct to be still and quiet. The strongest baby is able to fly up into the trees in a few days, and the rest eventually follow. Dave

    • @pixiecropolis
      @pixiecropolis  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jan, the bird probably has a nest with eggs or babies some where in the woods. She is hungry, but leaves the nest to find food. Wait a bit, and she'll show up with the babies. Watch out for hawks!

      We’ve got a lone turkey that roams around town separate from the other packs. He is a very interesting guy, he enjoys holding up traffic by lazily pecking at the tires of just about any vehicle he can approach while it’s stopped. That is something that I wonder all the time, what is it with the tire pecking?
      He has become such a legend that our town has made him our (unofficial) mascot and given him his very own Facebook page where people in town post videos and photos of his latest antics.
      Did you ever get a glimpse of the babies Jan?

    what if they have chicks?

    • @pixiecropolis
      @pixiecropolis  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the chicks are too young to fly, the mother hides them in thick and thorny undergrowth for the night. I watched the largest of the chicks fly up to a branch to join its mother. His siblings will follow in a night ot two. Dave
