i think it's more helpful to think of Rose Quartz not as a "fake" identity, but as a *chosen* identity. Pink may have been the person she was made as, but Rose is who she *wanted* to be. And I personally think that the person you choose to be is who you really are.

That's why Greg was okay with knowing the truth. Still, I think the Show should have worked better on the "Pink is Rose" reveal.

I think it makes more sense to think of Pink and Rose as two sides of the same coin because it's not like Rose didn't want to be Pink. Pink couldn't exist if the earth was to be free so Rose made the difficult decision to never be Pink again and leave her diamond family behind for the sake of saving all life on earth and protecting the gems who didn't want to follow the role they were told they have to follow in society.
I agree people are still hang up about her different alias.
At first it was a different alias to play with lower class gems then her character development grew chronologically.
I love that hint to the next episode when Sapphire says while looking at the future possabilities: Why would she be a cowboy? And then next episode, cowboy Ruby

The beauty in Pink's story is that you watch it in reverse. you start with Rose, someone who everybody loved and believed in who has died. As the show progresses you learn that she was a lot more complex and secretive until this bombshell. this then leaves us, the audience, to answer the question of whether or not it was worth it, whether or not she redeemed herself.
Something to note is that we saw Pink Diamond's development in reverse, she may not have been a very good person, but just before Steven was born she was atleast a better person in comparison to how she was as a diamond

yeah. this is a very important big picture to keep in mind. we meet her at her best and learn up to her worst so its easy to view it as development instead of history
Yes I agree we see it in reverse however that dose not change my opinions about her AT ALL.
Exactly, we saw first the person she wanted to be and then we saw how she was before and how he learned to be better and become what we saw of her first. I feel like most people forget about this, yes, she was a bad person, but she changed for better, even if some of her desicions were questionable.

Here's my theory
When Rose told Garnet not to question what she was as a gem, I think what she meant was they shouldn't question WHY it happened.
Most fusions happened mainly between two gems of the same type that were in the same mental wavelength. Meanwhile GARNET formed because Ruby valued Sapphire's safety and later grew to love her. In short, Garnet was one of the few Gems to come into being out of love for each other.
Thus, Rose didn't want them to question that love
Just wanted to say that Sapphire literally couldn’t have figured out Rose’s identity on her own as only Garnet can see multiple timelines.
@@jibjibs9401 Actually in 'hit the diamond' Sapphire mentions that she saw them playing baseball as a possibility which makes me believe that after they formed Garnet for the first time, Sapphire's realm of future vision expanded and she could see multiple outcomes.
I like that you actually listen to pink diamonds part of the story instead of just assuming that she’s a villain.
8:20 there's actually a theory somewhere that perhaps instead of there being a Pink Diamond, there was supposed to be a Red Diamond. This is because the symbol of the Diamonds is seemingly based on a real life symbol that's pretty much the same except flipped upside down, and instead of Pink it's Red. So the theory is that Red Diamond got overcooked and became Pink Diamond. But this is just a theory I wanted to state because I find it pretty fascinating even if not all the evidence is there.

All of the diamonds have a sort of "emotional power" in a way, but not all of their powers are controlled by emotions. Without including White so as not to spoil anything, Yellow diamond has power over electricity and the physical form of things. Blue diamond has power over water, and the very basic level of emotions(like happy, sad, andgry, etc), and Pink has control over life, and its passions. This is reflected in the gems that are derived from them. Peridot it a gem ruled by Yellow, her powers have to do with metal, aka physical object what is very electricity conductive, and her gem and form are a pale greenish yellow. Lapis is a gem ruled by Blue, which is more obvious bc of their color pallets, as well as her power over water. Even their temperament matches their respective Diamonds, Peridot being more calculated, loud, and easily riled up; whereas Lapis is very mellow, quiet and has a tendency to be swept into the negative emotions. We can even see this in both our Amethyst and the "famithysts" from the zoo, and how their personalities match to Rose/Pink's and her powers. Pink has the unique ability to control and create life, and is very impulsive and fun-loving. Amethyst is also a very lay-back, fun-loving, passionate person. I believe that Pink was never as serious about anything like her sisters because she herself was so deeply passionate about having fun and being genuinely happy. BUt, there is always a downside to every emotion, and being so deeply passionate about everything is both inspiring, and extremely dangerous.

Rose isn't a fake name, she's Rose, is how she chooses to be, and she loves her form. Neither her or Steven likes to be called "Pink", pink was the person who she was when she was unhappy, rose is the person who she chose to be, when she have friends, love, a family and happiness. Rose and Steven are representation of trans people in Steven universe
It's akin to the name someone would take if they transition. You wouldn't call that a fake name.

I say it isn't a fake name in the sense that it's the name she chose for herself but it is a fake name in the sense that all the fusions have fake names because she isn't actually a rose quartz (we see in future that there are actual rose quartz gems)

You have right to dislike Rose, but she never chose to be a Dimond, or pink, she left all this behind to be her own person: Rose quartz. If she's a lier, so is everybody in this show. She's the more human character in the show, she lied, she cry, she make bad decisions and learned from her mistakes, and she's dead now, it's over lol

Her development is incredible from start of the series to now
She went from being underappreciative of her own worth, thinking she's a mistake, that she has to prove to be like a real quartz, that she has to be like Jasper
All that developed through her friends and How they see her as who she is
On top of that Her meeting the other Earth Amethysts in the Human Zoo made her connect with her other family, Famethyst
And she started seeing how worthy she was without need for mask, like Purple Puma
Now here she does what no one did in this series so far
Ask Steven how he feels about himself, Rose, and the entire circus that is his life
The rare moments where he stood for his feelings(Peridot Warp machines when no one believed him or when Greg was kidnapped)
He almost died because he stood up for himself
And probably started stopping to open to others
In this episode Amethyst finally asked him what was important but also didn't put her trauma/past on him and instead tried to help him instead of being the one Steven helps like always

the tragedies that happened because of rose were sad but I think everyone is too quick to blame her because they put her on such a pedestal to begin with, she was literally the most inexperienced diamond, maybe even the most inexperienced gem because even the pearls were built with a knowledge database- she wasn’t some strategic mastermind, we see that she’s literally like a child, and she tried her best she didn’t know much better

She bubbled bismuth that was pretty recent. She was always condescending to Greg, VERY RECENT. She left the crystal gems to deal with her problems MOST RECENT. She never went back to spinel (she never even mentioned that someone should get her in the future) She didn't leave any sort of note or anything to help Steven with a diamonds powers. The gems could only tell him what they know and not even pearl knew about the rage blast's. She also never told them about her lion who could have been living with them the whole time if they knew. But yea ...misunderstood

She honestly thought the diamonds did not care enough about earth and the only threat on earth was the corrupted gems, she didn' expect all of her problems would come back and torment the cristal gems.
When she left spinel in the garden she thought she come back, during the war i do not thing you think a lot about that and after the war she wos not able to return for her (also she could think someone would go to the garden and saw spinel, or that she would move after 6000 years)

I do not think Rose would know either if Steven would have powers or not, she just wanted Steven to live as a human (and for 11-12 years that was the case) and part of that is discovery

@@alonsofarias9814 shitty and cruel motives for bismuth. For Greg we dont really know if she stopped being condescending. For spinel the simple fact is she never did go back for her. Also "not able to return" is kinda false she had lion. But for the sake of argument even if she could not teleport she never even told for example Pearl that she left spinel. At least if she would have told Pearl there could have been a possibility in the future for Pearl to go rescue her. As for spinel not moving she was devoted to pink diamond she was made for pink diamond pink diamond would know that she would stay. I understand she wanted him he learn and "be human" first she could have adopted a human 2nd she left the gems ill equipt to deal with Steven. Sure she couldn't have known for certain but it wouldn't have hurt to leave a message. As for lion I'm not suggesting that Steven needed to have lion his whole life. I meant more like the gems should have known about lion because they were skeptical about him cause hes litteraly a lion. Lion could have been living in roses Temple room until he was ready and that way the gems would know that the lion is safe.
@@mag-narwhal if Rose had told the truth about bismuth, it is most likely that the crystal gems would have divided into two sides, those that approved of the breaking point and those that did not, a dispute that would give the diamonds the advantage and both sides would lose .
I am pretty sure that the whole point of "we need to talk" was that Rose and Greg really connected after that conversation, and Pearl would not think she lost if Rose was still condescending toward Greg
Lion felt exhausted with a travel to the moon, and call me crazy, but I think that the garden is further from the earth than the moon, and they thought escaping from earth was impossible. I still I still think Rose guessed that some other gem would have gone to the garden in all those 4000-5000 years that she was gone. And in that time Rose discovered that gems had free will, so i think is not crazy she thought Spinel simply move on.
I think there is a little difference in adopting and becoming a human, she wanted the experience of a normal human life for Steven/Nora, and i repeat she would not know that Steven would have powers and that is sufficient reason for not leave a note about that.
And for a NORMAL HUMAN LIFE a pink lion with an enire dimension an roars that can create portals is not the ideal, and the gems would not have a use for lion whit the knowledge they have(Rose included) in the moment.
The thing with Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz is that you're watching her character development BACKWARDS.
First you have her as a good-willed person, that everyone looks up to, that made great changes for the Crystal Gems etc etc. and that was the in the "future" (closest to the timeline in SU), while the whole "she started a war, caused a lot of gems to be shattered" and every single awful thing she did as Pink Diamond was in the "past" (the farthest to the timeline in SU).
It's such an unique take on a character's development and I haven't seen any show do that before (then again, I don't watch a lot of shows).

The character of “Rose Quartz” was extremely important, it meant showing other gems that they didn’t need to follow a Diamond, starting the war in her original form would have ruined that. It just would have been the gems trading one Diamond for another, no matter how much Rose didn’t want to be seen as an overlord.

Some theorize that Pink Diamond is defective and was supposed to be Red Diamond and be bigger/act like the other diamonds. Kinda like Amethyst. Also, Rose is not a fake person, just a new identity. Oooh, I have a theory too that Rose’s status influences gems. Pearl was ordered to not spill the tea and physically couldn’t even constantly sacrificing herself during the war because if Rose was poofed, her gem would be revealed. She told Garnet to not question themself, which I think is why Garnet never did because she physically couldn’t as garnet. Garnet NEVER asks a question which I think is partly cuz of rose. I think Pearl was still bounded to Rose because she never left her side. Like would Pearl still have that same attachment to Rose if she belonged to someone else?
She had to start the war because Blue and Yellow wouldn't let her stop colonizing the planet. All the lives lost were because the other diamonds wouldn't listen to her and she was too scared to tell the truth. Sorry if this is considered a spoiler. But you did say you've finished the series.
I'm still of the opinion that she would have had more of an impact on the diamonds had she decided to fight as pink rather than rose

Amethysts point is more that the gems are thousands of years old and should be able to handle their own emotions without dropping that baggage on Steven who is a child.
I watched this show when it first came out and it hurt how long apart the seasons where spaced and cartoon network seemed to constantly be against promoting it. Also a lot of the fans were crazy toxic about things from just theories to even making threats on the creators. It was wild but I still love the show one of my favorites.
Yeah, the timing was maddening sometimes. Plus something else I don't think Scoot realizes is when they did release episodes, it was usually a whole bunch all at once (often back to back in the same hour I think), so there was little opportunity to discuss each episode before the next one came out.
Steven is basically Greg with pink diamond hair....

This is seriously THE best show I have ever watched. It’s insane how good this show is.
Some foreshadowing that our Pearl belonged to a Diamond (although, and I say this knowing you’re already watching Future on Patreon, it’s implied she belonged to White before White switched their Pearls, taking Pink Pearl to herself and giving our Pearl aka White Pearl to Pink Diamond to keep her in line) : in the season 2 episode where Peridot and Pearl fight, Peridot says while inspecting our Pearl “You look like a fancy one… Who do you belong to anyway?” and then Pearl gets embarrassed
This show is so full of genius foreshadowing
[Spoilers for the movie and Future] Our Pearl always belonged to Pink. Pink's original Pearl was made pretty much entirely with Pink's "essence" (in the spa/sauna scenes where Steven is talking to Blue and Yellow in the Change Your Mind arc, the purpose of those places is to harvest the Diamonds' essense to make more gems, hence why Steven's sweat is pink in those scenes, and hence why Era 2 gems are generally weaker than Era 1 gems, because they lack Pink's essense). So with Pink Pearl being pretty much entirely like Pink, they connected a lot more as peers and play mates, which is why after Pink Pearl got cracked, White took her away from Pink (as she thought that Pink Pearl was "bringing out the worst" in Pink Diamond), and the other three Diamonds made our Pearl for Pink, and made her with a much more balanced mix of all of their essences (especially White's essence, given her colour palette and gem placement), to discourage Pink from treating her like a peer, and they created Spinel to fulfil the play mate role.

I think it’s more talking generally about rose being who she wanted to be as a person, this is similar to turning over a new leaf in general- like those movies where the someone in a privileged position discovers the problems of common people. People change their names for all kinds of reasons, main reason being they’re old name represented something they didn’t want to be known for. The mere mention of diamonds strikes fear into gems so how would she start a revolution in that atmosphere? Also gems don’t technically have names, they are call what they are and rose quartz was the form she took (like how bat man is a man in a bat costume)

I’m rewatching all of these waaay after you uploaded them lol but I just want to say I really love how you take your time to state your thoughts and analyses for every episode, a lot of other reactors just kind of speed through their theories or reactions as they watch (NOT to throw shade!) but I really enjoy hearing your thought process cuz you have some really good takes!
What makes it fun to rewatch the show is that they actually have a lot of secrets and foreshadowing that you really only pick up after you know everything. Like how Pearl shakes everytime pink diamond gets brought up or how Ruby tried seeing into the future to look for sapphire in the ship but not being able to.
As a long time fan since the beginning this show has helped me so much . I Met Susan egan in 2019 . She voices rose/pink . It was a day after the movie came out and I talked to her about it and she was so sweet and knew she was kinda like not perfect in the show lol.
A year after I had my first child I named her Norah not only cuz of this show because it means light. I'm currently going through the hardest part of my life rn. I lost my dad last Feb due to addiction and my mom is currently barley in my life.
But seeing reactions from this show helps and it's helping me to learn not to put my mistakes on my daughter and I have Anxiety/ Depression on top of grief life really do be hard. But the music and love this show has helps me get through.
my daughter is currently behind a development we don't know what's going on I've been going to doctors after doctor I want to show Nora my daughter the show when she's older so she can learn how to be okay with certain situations and to love herself and no matter what happens if she loves who she loves I will always love her sorry this is a long post but the show really inspired me it really touched me and I hope it will stick with you for a long time as well.

Actually, on the Uncle Grampa crossover, he told Steven he had to polish his gem sometimes, but the gems that needed to be polished are the diamonds, so literally he knew he is a diamond and kinda spoiled that on S2

In terms of if this is the peak of your reactions, your reactions are good because it’s you. If you’re worried about this being the best show you’ll watch then that’s a different story. There’s very few shoes I put on a pedestal like I do Steven universe but gravity falls, adventure time, regular show, and Steven universe we’re just peak,

Have you ever watched Avatar: The last Airbender???? When you talked about whether you’re gonna ever react to shows as good as Steven Universe ever again on this channel, my first thought was Avatar. That show is in my opinion one of the best animated shows EVER.. it has some of the best world building in any show not even the animated ones. Everything in Avatar from characters, fight scenes, relationships, plot twists and comedy is just perfect. I’m just thinking it would be so cool for you to watch it if you haven’t seen it yet. Just a suggestion tho

Well to give you an idea of the "theory scene" back when it was airing people had guessed that Rose was Pink Diamond as far back as season 1 or 2 but as the show went on that felt like it became less and less likely until when it was finally revealed a lot of people were like "oh my god! The original theories were right!"
Also the creator was a bit annoyed when they showed what Pink looked like in the jungle planet episode because somehow Pink's design had actually gotten out and used on a T-shirt a short while before the episode aired.

Unrelated to this reaction but it just clicked to me that the episode when Garnet tried to be random is really similar to the episode where she tells Steven not to go on the roof
In both scenes it was raining
In the 1st one Garnet was comforting Steven and tried to connect with him
In the 2nd it's the opposite and he's the one playing the ''mature'' role
It shows his character growth so well
There’s a theory where people believe that Pink Diamond was defective, and it makes sense. It makes sense why she was always treated like a little kid. White, Blue, Yellow, and all that was missing was Red, and pink is a lighter version of red. The theory is that Pink Diamond was originally meant to be Red Diamond, but she came out wrong, which is why she isn’t a Primary Colour like Yellow or Blue, and why she’s so much shorter then she other diamonds, because she’s defective.

Rose is an interesting character in terms of her kind of reverse development. At the start of the series we knew Rose as she was at the very end of her hero's journey, and throughout the show we dig into who she was and now we see where she truly began.

I think the reason everyone’s so rude is because the big reveal split the fandom in half. Season 5 onward has a lot of chaotic events, each one seems to have fractured the fandom even more.
