Rebecca confirmed that White knew all along that Pink was still alive and about the whole Rose Quartz fiasco. When Steven came back, she saw the whole situation as another one of Pink’s little shenanigans and just followed the usual “keeping Pink in line” routine

The notes that were written when planning out the timeline with the diamonds' reactions to Pink's shattering had this written down for White:
"White knows Pink is out there. This expensive, embarrassing tantrum is not worth her attention. Pink will come groveling back when she's done running away from home."

An early hint that White was controlling White Pearl was the fact that White Pearl’s voice wasn’t Deedee Magno Hall, who’s the voice of all Pearls, but instead Christine Ebersole’s, aka White Diamond’s voice.

Some info that might be useful while we're nearing the finale is that Rebecca Sugar had in mind Freud's theory of human psychology while designing the Diamonds:
The Id - Pink diamond : desires of the body (mostly body) and mind that are repressed , viewed as superficial, the part that reminds us "what we want"
The Ego - Blue and Yellow diamonds : ways to comprehend and interact with the world, physically and emotionally
The Superego - White diamond: morals and ideals , the part that dictates "how we should be"
I’d like to add that, regarding the Ego, Yellow and Blue represent the action “physical” oriented part and the emotionally oriented part, respectively

Although they never explicitly explained it on the show, it’s been stated that the Diamonds’ “sweat” that is extracted in both Yellow’s sauna and Blue’s bathtub is collected and used as a source to create gems in kindergartens
This also explains why era 2 gems are a struggle to produce. Without pinks diamond essence the cocktail is incomplete.

Some little notes about these episodes and little details you may have missed
In the song Familiar, the reason the final picture looks like Steven is because thats the exact moment he realises that the Diamonds situation is almost EXACTLY how the gems were. A family of four, with the pink child being the beloved of the older four. Struggling at providing what eachother wants and each in a fragile mental state that Steven helps over the course of the series. In that moment, we see our gems reflected in the Diamonds, Steven realising he can help them the same way he helped HIS family.
I don't know if it's been confirmed but the placement of Pearls gems indicates that our Pearl used to belong to white. As seen in the flashback, the old pink pearl has her gem on her stomach like Steven.
I believe Rebecca confirmed that the locked room at the end was basically a form of gem torture, they need adequate light to maintain good health- in as much a gem equivalent as there is- and the complete deprivation of it was akin to starving your child.

So, white gave her pearl to pink and then completely took over pink's pearl? i hope they explain this in future cuz it doesn't make sense to me.
@@Elipson52008 its never been explicitly confirmed but the idea is that White either gave her Pearl (who had already been serving her) or she gave her our Pearl that was newly made for her before our Pearl actually ended up serving her. Pink Pearl very much belonged to Rose and White took control of her mind as a punishment. Theres some additional context for that in future but as for our Pearl being whites pearl- never explicit its just a very popular theory based on past knowledge and I personally think it tracks
About Yellow's sauna, they never explain this in the series, not even in Future, but the liquid they plant on the kindergartens to cause new Gems to form is sweat from each of the Diamonds. The reason Peridot couldn't shapeshift is because she was made without Pink's sweat.

@@YannGaisser Amethyst was created back when Pink Diamond was still one of the Diamonds, so sweat from Pink Diamond would have been used. That allows her to shapeshift.
If you mean her size though, apparently gems that remain on the ground too long before popping out come out much smaller than normal.

Some people have speculated on deeper meanings and symbolism regarding the part with the watermelon stevens in the episode “escapism”, how it could represent gem’s society diamond worshipping, etc. And knowing Rebecca’s work, I’m sure there’s more to it than what we can take at face value. To quote Ian J.Q. : “no episode is filler- good worldbuilding takes time”. Even during season 1, each episode was giving us little hints to concepts of gem society either by subtle dialogue, background imagery, or seemingly unconnected concepts that would all come back as crucial information to understand how gem physiology, culture and caste system works

24:39 OMG I FORGOT ABOUT THIS PART. So the song that plays here for the remainder of the episode is called “Escapism.” A demo of this that Rebecca Sugar sang was leaked months before this episode, along with a series of other leaks for episodes. At the time, all we had were Sugar’s vocals and the guitar chords, but we didn’t know which character would be singing this song.
There was this bingo card leaked describing all major plot points that would become episodes in Season 5 that leaked between hiatuses of the different arcs. Pearl & Lapis had major episodes during Season 5, and due to their characterization, it was heavily believed that either one of them would sing this song, because of the lyrics.

In Pearl’s case, we’d received rumors that we’d see her in her original servant form, so the lyrics suggested a theory that we’d see how Pearl felt about her life before meeting/serving Rose/Pink Diamond. The song would then be Pearl’s Escapism of how much she wanted to run away from Homeworld and start a new life, and how Pink could offer her that life. Ultimately, that rumor was disproven with us seeing the flashbacks in “A Single Pale Rose,” but no new song with it.
In Lapis’ case, leaks had already gone around that she would likely flee from Steven and the gang one more time before allying with them. The song was believed to be Lapis grieving her lost time in the mirror once more and maybe her fleeing Earth one more time because of how she hadn’t fully adjusted to her new life, or due to the Diamonds coming to Earth. Ultimately this idea was also chased too, since while Lapis did flee it was only to the Moon-base to watch over Steven, Peridot and the Crystal Gems. And then of course she got her own song, That Distant Shore, so that threw that theory out the water too.
It was still so amazing to see how many theories took shape with just that little bit of information we had to work with. You have to remember, Steven Universe didn’t release new episodes on a week to week basis like other Cartoon Network properties. It released in like 2-4 group episode bombs, MONTHS apart, so this theory took root for nearly a year before we finally got to see and hear which episode the song finally played. This being a song for Stevonnie as Steven tries to mentally (and quite literally) escape and distance himself from the Diamonds and Homeworld was the last idea in anyone’s mind. It’s so great to see someone’s reaction to groups of the episodes and arcs with the info fresh in their mind from a couple minutes ago, instead of months like many of us had to deal with.

the song "Familiar" was referencing the fact that Steven experienced many parallels with Pink, as before Steven was a "crystal gem" he'd goof off in the house while the gems were out on missions, with not much to do, until he eventually wanted to go on missions with them, similarly to how Pink wanted to own a colony like the other diamonds. Pink saying "im a diamond too" is eerily similar to Steven's constant remarks in the earlier seasons that "im a crystal gem too"

The Ship Peridot and Jasper used to come had Era 2 symbol, Only White Yellow and Blue (also Centipeedle's drawing since the 3 Diamonds attacked with corruption)
Like Lapis said their technology was far more advanced

And the Era 1 pool back when Pink used to sing for them

It’s implied to be written from Pink Diamonds perspective while she was living on Homeworld
On homeworld, every gem has a role to play, even in the diamond authority. This is symbolized by the different ships: blue is the left hand, yellow is the right hand, and pink is the shapely thighs and buttocks.

Blue Diamond seemed so different in that episode because before that, we only saw her grieving.

17:30 I get what Scoop means because even tho Blue is my favorite Diamond, I have to remember that she is sadly part of the Diamond mentality, she has to keep everyone in line. You can kind of think of her as Topaz, where she has moments where she's tired and has moments of understanding, but she has a job to do sadly. I also think the reason for this is mostly because she's an empath and emotional. The one that can most likely be talked to and talked down from doing anything else.

Notice how blue pearl and yellow pearl both have the gem placement on their chest- just like their diamonds, Pink pearl has it on her navel just like her diamond (pink diamond). So I think crystal gem pearl belonged to White diamond bc her gem is on her forehead as well just like white diamond

Pay attention to the songs from this point on
It's said that rose/pink is the one singing about how she felt about herself and then how Steven is better than her
What I like about this arc is that it allowed the writers to better characterize the Diamonds, they are all representative of the idea of enantiodromia which is that the over abundance of anything leads to its opposite / the more you are convinced to be something, the less likely it is that you are. Rebecca explains it in the art book.
For example, she mentions that Blue Diamond believes herself to be so sensitive, that she's actually profoundly insensitive and cold. Which is why it might be surprising to see her written as so unfair towards Steven in this arc, but the point is that she was always like that.
Years passed by and I still don't know if white pearl was actually just white saying "White diamond has better things to attend to" or whatever. Because white pearl is controlled by White diamond so won't that mean White diamond technically attended but just didn't want to leave her head like the diamond's said.
Massive balls
Blue Diamond had such a connection with Pink, that when the former finally turned against the latter at that meeting at the moonbase was the moment when Pink realized that there was no turning back, that she had to turn a phony war into a real one or meekly allow the other Diamonds to wipe out all life on Earth.
Can Yellow Diamond take even a minute out from being a nasty self-centered beeyotch?
I was ticked off at Garnet and the others for choosing such a low hill to die on...to the Diamonds and probably the majority of other Gems, seeing "Pink Diamond" fuse with organic Connie would be the equivalent of bestiality right on the dance floor.

I’m new to Steven Universe and what I just noticed is that our pearl’s gem is on her head as that creepy pearl’s gem located in their stomach, like how pinks gem is.

I remember how I feel as I watched all of these episodes live. I did see it live at the beginning, but I didn't go back to watching it live again until rose's room. and i kept doing so from then on. it was such a surreal and enjoyable experience for me then, just like it is rewatching through these reactions now. it's kinda crazy seeing as it's nearly the end to say this but still. it's always a nostalgic experience no matter how long it's been since then.

The Diamonds finally unite.
About the watermelon episode, there's a symbolism in their society and Steven was kind of the reason they had split. In their debut episode, I believe that the melons violently protected Steven until baby melon sacrificed himself with open arms, which made Steven tell them to stop fighting. The Star Clan represents pacifism. In the Malichite fight, the melons were all scared until the melon possessed by Steven inspired them to pick up arms and protect themselves. The Spear Clan represents fighting for yourself. The irony is that both sides worship the same creator, Steven, but split over different messages that are both good but taken to extremes. A common goal helps them put aside their feud. It reminds me of real religions and countries a bit, fighting over scriptures or constitutions instead of finding common ground, solving issues, and finding moderate balance in ideologies.
Episode 24-27!? Oh we finishing this!
Watching this a second time really makes me appreciate it more. I loved it the first time of coarse. But seeing your reaction made me like it even more. The writing was so good. And even though Rose wasn’t seen as the best, she was still well written I think. Especially the similarities/differences between her and Steven.

Again, I know, you're finished with this show but idk if anyone else has pointed this out- think about why Pink Diamond if so small. If you remember back to the Bismuth episode (where she was first introduced) and they were in the forge, Bismuth calls Amethyst a "deep cut". What this is referring to is the cut of Amethyst's gem. She was incubated too long hence why she's so short. Pink Diamond, is a deep cut which is what makes her so small. Amethyst is seen as flawed, which is the same for Pink- but Pink is still a Diamond and the same way it was with Amethyst, she was sick of not being treated the same way because she wasn't the same as the other diamonds.
