    This was incredibility helpful to see the size and shots with and without using this. I can't find any other good real world examples and this was a life saver.

    I bought the glow 8x8 a while back. It’s great for gentle studio use by a limited crew. The aluminum is very cheaply made and won’t stand the test of time. My frame still works but has bent over time with different G&E crews setting it up. Go for Matthews if you want longevity!

      This is a good point. We definitely noticed that it isn't the most durable setup and is for more light use. I think for a lot of people who use them indoors and more on occasion, it is a great fit

      If you have an outdoor shoot, it might be worth renting one.
      Keep yours for the indoor nice corporate chutes.

    The thing about photography or video work is the product is a file, not a physical product. The content is always changing, so the tools need to be as versatile as possible to keep up. I thought about an 8x8 and quickly realized that I would much rather have four 4x4’s that can be attached to create an 8x8 or a 4x16 or even 4 interior sides of a cube. I used 10-series 80/20 aluminum channel to make the frames, so baby pins or anchors can be put anywhere. I spent a bit more, but I’m amazed at how useful the system is. You need only to try to light a canoe to understand why a 4x16 is such a great thing…

    Really nice, watchable overview. Thanks! I have a bunch of Glow modifiers and they get the job done for a reasonable investment. Sadly, after spending literally tens of thousands of dollars with Adorama, I quit doing business with them because of customer service issues. They're great until you have an issue which is a real shame. I'm really torn between the Glide Gear BFS100 modular system or just biting the bullet and buying the Westcott Scrim Jim. Thanks again, great video.

      Thanks for the kind words and sorry about Adorama! I purchase most through B&H but on occasion there are better deals through Adorama

    Probably best to keep a tie of mason line or sash permanently into the grommets like the grip brothers to rectify that bungee problem.

    ideally you use combo stands not C-stands, and also secure the frame with rope and tent pegs (if you're setting it up outside on grass)

    Thanks for this really helpful video! Would you say the included diffusion is similar to artificial silk or another standard diffusion textile? And, do you know how many stops it consumes?

  • @JaimeMaldonado

    I would use combo stands outdoors

    • @LarimoreStudios
      @LarimoreStudios  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is definitely a good point. Combo stands are far more durable and safe in that environment

    When using your light into the smaller diffuser, do you use silver or white? Can you purchase a solid white panel? Thanks

    this thing didnt last 6 months in my buddy's truck. first the hinges got so bent out of shape bending them back into place became an everyday activity. then they broke entirely.
    good for videographers with gentle vans and cars. bad for grip trucks.

    • @LarimoreStudios
      @LarimoreStudios  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I could definitely see this being a bad fit for a grip truck. We definitely use it more lightly

    Great video. Did you by any chance consider the manfrotto scrim at all and if so what turned you away from it. Thanks

    • @LarimoreStudios
      @LarimoreStudios  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Greg, thanks for the comment! So I have worked with plenty of Manfrotto products and definitely like the brand, but we wanted to test out a more affordable scrim. Knowing Manfrotto, it is probably a great product if you have the cash. For us, we figured we would go cheaper since we primarily use it inside.

    Thanks for your video! One question, can you leave the fabric on and fold the thing in half? I'm going to be at two locations and hoping to be fast with it? Thanks!

    • @LarimoreStudios
      @LarimoreStudios  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks so much for the kind words and for watching the video! If you have a big enough van, you could technically fold it in half with the fabric attached to it but I wouldn't recommend it. It isn't the most durable frame/fabric and that will lead to it being broken much quicker. It really doesn't take too much time to set it up so it is probably best to break it down between locations.

  • @Treviso100
    @Treviso100 ปีที่แล้ว

    I see a link to everything EXCEPT the Glow 8x8! Haha! Also, it doesn't appear you can get different diffusion fabrics for this one, such as a 1/4 stop, 1/2 stop and full stop.

    Why not just get a regular frame w ears and squarestock. Almost same price for much better quality product. Look at canvas grip. If u dont buy it nice u buy it twice.
