With your bounce section, I am seeing some sun-sandwiching going on (as in, seeing a lot of bright lights on both sides of the talent; Sun and bounce). I suppose it’s a style preference, but I like to wrap light around the talent (imagine you are trying to extend the sun’s reach), rather than bounce it from the opposite side like a mirror. Great stuff!
yeah, agreed. In the bts you can see that it's a slight wrap anyway but since we weren't flexible on the angle (cathedral in the background) we didn't have much of choice anymore

Hi, Damien! I'm a bit confused by your set up. What stop of diffusion are you using on your 1.1 frame? I'm seeing only 0.75, 1 and 2 stop diffusion frames from Manfrotto, but yours look a lot lighter
I had this happen to me before... we had a morning golden hours shoot. Everyone showed up 2-3 hours late. I was so pissed. Had to see it through, and I made it happen.
Interesting. When in product photography, usually we want higher density diffuser because you do not want the light shape behind diffuser to be seen on reflective product. So ususally 1 stop and higher.Looks like if I want to use diffuser for people, I need lower density.
depends on the background. For people you also want stronger diffusion but since people are quite large, you would also need to diffuse the background.. and then it gets tricky.. If the sun isn't hitting the background directly, go for more diffusion
What is the technical name for the "pole clamps" that would be used on a c-stand to grip large diffusion frames on the sides? I'm wondering if there is an industry standard clip that securely grasps large frames and allows for quick tilting to change the angle There's a good shot of the clamp at 6:02, above the head of the man that is moving the frame. Thanks!
Whats the difference between 1-1/4in Stop, 1/4-stop, 3/4-Stop and Full Stop? I mean I know its the density of the fabric but Im a bit confused. Is it 1.25 Stop more than a Full Stop?
Thanks, Great job on the video. But,(and it’s a big but) like 99.9% of online lighting tutorials, you show how to light a person standing or sitting still. In many serranoes in video the person and or camera is moving. Please do a video on lighting for movement. Best Wishes David Jones
I just watched it and really nice content , however I do have some suggestions! I think from your diagrams in the video it looks like your creating more of a SUN SANDWICH, instead of a SUN WRAP! now the sun sandwich look isn't bad but it to me it doesn't come off as natural as your fill like coming from the side angle as the sun! Also from some of the wides the reflectors look sourcey slightly! Also I'd definitely recommend using neg to help with your contrast ratios!
absolutely true... in the bts you can see that the bounce wasn't AS angled as it was in the diagram. But unfortunately we didn't have any chance to frame it differently due to the cathedral in the background. I also 100% agree on the sourciness. we had to use the silver reflector as white unfortunately didn't do much. We usually do use negative fill on a lot of these shots (the car commercial in the end for example) but for these the client wanted to have a really bright commercial look!
@kidcoma1340 lol u clearly haven't shot enough commercials 🙄 😂 ! You can still get that bright look while doing things the right way especially outdoors

@@damiencooper I guess you could use a net to bring down a bright background, but more hassle, more equipment and not practical for wider shots.

Looks like a "Manfrotto Pro Scrim All-in-One-Kit Large". The clamps are included in the kit.

Not every client wants the wanderingDP look, especially not in commercial world, some just want something attentiongrabbing. This is totally fine

that is not shooting in sunlight. that's shooting in shadow, diffused light.
