The best video I've seen regarding the ROG Strix Arion enclosure. You're the first reviewer to actually address that the interior thumb screw is to allow for tool-less installation. Others have used tools with it and didn't seem to understand why a normal motherboard M.2 screw was used! I'm sold.
He's not a reviewer you dimwit he works for Asus
This is a great accessory, the only problem is that it can get a little hot. I pointed a fan on it and it seemed to keep it under control. Other than that I'm super happy with it.
I've been holding out for a slightly more affordable high-performance external M.2 drive for work. The durability and easy drive access for swapping them is also a huge plus.
No speed test..? No pricing..? Really left out the most important stuff. Was looking for something like this, great job Asus.
jacob madeo pricing?
Pricing is easy, it's Asus so it'll be overpriced.
Just ordered a MB with 3 M.2. slots and this exact enclosure along with a Kingston A2000 at 2200MB/s read speed that i hope comes before tuesday.
Should be enough to max out the USB connection at 10Gb/s (1250 MB/s).
Want a speed test?
@@Renisauce So What speeds did u get ?
@@billybunt3716 Oh, right.
Maxed it out at a bit over 600 MB/s. For some reason, i can't get the 10 Gb/s speeds to work on my x570 Aorus Master, but i'm quite sure it's me or the motherboard at fault, and not the M.2. case.
It's gives a really solid feeling in the hand though. Wouldn't be too worried if i dropped it three stories with the rubber casing on.
I just picked one up. Love it, use it for my OS, so i can load from any pc my files / desktop. :D
I dont understand how ?
@@r4id1silent_anons54 He basically boots his Operating System on the External M.2 Drive making it a portable PC.
YOOOOOO ANTWON I KNEW YOU WORKED WITH COMPUTERS AND STUFF SINCE YOUVE MENTIONED IT ON YOUR CHANNEL BUT I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD SEE YOU HERE LMAO that's wild I was as just looking for a neat ssd enclosure
Bruh whut... I wasn't expecting Ant.... I was just watching him reviewing Suicokes
We didn't even get a 'fit pic or a rundown of the OOTD. Disappointing.
Finally, we can clip our disks into our belts
The Asus Rog Strix Arion m.2 case has a few issues.
First, the USB-C connector doesn't have any stiffening or attachment to the housing. So all the stresses from the USB-C cable are directly transferred to the USB-C connector, the solder of this connector and the PCB. The connector has almost 1mm space to move and the fantastic case doesn't hold it in place so there is a lot of space to generate linear and angular stresses. This is a very bad design and practice!
Also, the springs in the case to hold the upper cover are quite weak, and even with a little ticker drive, the upper cover does not hold up well.
The case doesn't support double-sided m.2 drives, at least there is no thermal conductive material and support for that.
Do you recommend any alternative? Looking also for a case for my m2.
Great Video! I Purchased the ROG Strix Arion with a Inland 1T SSD. Previously, I purchased a LaCie Diamond cut or whatever fancy name they have for it at Apple and yes I wish I could return it. The $150 I paid for it wasn't worth it at all due the slow read and write speeds of anywhere between 87mbps and 15mbps(the advertised speed were never reached). The Arion paired with the Inland 1T professional (Micro Centers brand) writes at 890mbps and reads at 870mbps. Also, there was no over heating issues while backing up my MacBook Pro 16". In Time Machine, 149.63GB completed in about 35 minutes vs 2 hours with the LaCie dropping to 15mbps at times. Overall, I am pleased with the exception of wanting to get a 2T SSD for the Arion but those prices are too expensive for my taste. I'm hoping Black Friday will have some great sales on SSD's. Hope this helps.
I feel bad for you. But hope you are happy with your new one
@@LILSRK I most certainly am happy with the new one. Everyone in the office keeps saying how cool it looks. If only they knew how fast it is haha.
saw this in one of your vids waterproof man, thought it was so cool I had to go nab one for myself. looking forward to the acronym edition ;)
“Flash memory is non volatile so will be less easily damaged” you know what non volatile means right
@ISOHaven don't want to get into an argument but would love to see what definition your on about as I don't understand what you mean
@@jprewind5991 just giving the definition for both
Volatile Memory is the type of computer memory that is temporary in nature. It stores the data inside it only until the power is supplied. Non-Volatile Memory is the type of computer memory that is permanent in nature. The data stored in such kind of memory remains there even after the system is turned off.
@ISOHaven Using volatile to describe ruggability is just misleading. Any type of external storage is non-volatile. This is a classic case of a gaming-technology-company throwing computer hardware vocab at you for marketing
@@blatcher2 flash memories are non-volatile as in both non-volatile and solid state, as oppose to external hard drive which is easily damaged by drop or shock, or ram which is volatile.
@@StevenZephyc I have a major in computer engineering, I understand the point. However the marketing is misleading because external hard drive are also inheritantly non-volatile due to the magnetic storage. It is the moving read/write head and platters inside of HDDs that can cause data loss or failure of the drive due to drops, vibration and other shocks.
This stuff is anything but high performance. The only thing you need to pay attention to is 10 Gbps. For the same money, you can get 20/40 Gbps enclosures. So just keep in mind you're paying 4 times the price for some LED.
I just bought my self one because i got a new nvme ssd and wanted to transfer all files to my new one and this was a really good choice over 500gb of files transferred in half an hour 5/5 stars recommend
What’s the price? And what’s your currency?
Thank you for this review 😎 you look like Adam Scott from Parks and Rec btw
The whole point of these heat pads is that you leave them alone. By opening the case you've already reduced their effectiveness. Secondly, one seriously should have some doubt about their effect on cooling, since they're weakly pressed on by a plastic lid that can bend and slightly move.
loool never thought to see him on here, thought he is a techwear youtuber
LzKicker17 yea, this is Antwon
I think you're overselling the portable part since flash drives are small and connect directly to pc without having to carry around a foot long cable needed for your strix thingy.
Do you realize this is 10Gbps? Compared to a flash drive thats 2 MBs if that. Portable SATA SSDs may hit 560, still half the speed. That's the benefit, bimbo
ow ! Antwon techwear sama what a surprise :D
I was dubious at first when I saw the thumbnail but when I heard that voice, it was unmistakable. Anyway, true to form his introduction still starts with A...ASUS. Hahaha
Useful concept device.
Just got one today. :D
So is this an easy safe way to upgrade & installed SSD in the G14
Love the thing. Just seems weird to call it tool less when you need a small tool to open it and then a screwdriver to insert the ssd. Love it though.
You don't need a screwdriver* He mentions this in the video :/
This is a gift from heaven. Love it
that's a beautiful enclosure
it sick, it piss , it insulting, it revolting
@@htx92 hehehe
Can you adjust the RGB to sync with the rest of the ASUS products in my pc?
hi sir, want to confirm if using an external ssd would help lessen the thermal of the laptop while playing games e.g NBA 2k20, thank you.
It will not. Lptops dont have great airflow so the cpu & gpu will get hot
does this support current 4th Gen M.2s speed wise, or will there be any issues with future 5th gen m.2? I know older motherboards have reduced speed with 4th gen M.2 NVME cards
No, you're limited to 10 Gbit/s (1-1,2 GB/s) which is way lower than fastest 3rd gen NVMe SSDs.
I just saw this on Amazon... I'm thinking of getting this for my Xbox Consoles... Xbox One X, and Series X.
Right now I have a Sabrent NVMe SSD and Enclosure.
Great to see a video on it. I'm gonna get it!
How is the sabrent compared to the orinco?
how does it perform? worth it?
@@MadMexism
Sorry I never saw your comment... To be honest I wouldn't know as I never used an Orico. But as of late I think Sabrent has been Obviously on a hot track.
All their NVMe drives are well reviewed and they have had their 2.5HDD/SSD to USB3.1 Gen 2 cable mentioned and praised by Digital Foundry which lead to that product being sold out for a while.
I now have added a Samsung 970Evo Plus with the Red Sabrent NVMe SSD Enclosure on the Series X.
In my opinion the 970Evo Plus is better than the Internal drive due to the DRAM Buffer on the 970. The Xbox Internal NVMe drive is Non DRam but that doesn't mean it isn't good. Trust me.
@@andypandy4607
I never picked it up... I went with the Red Sabrent NVMe SSD Enclosure with a 970 Evo Plus on the Series X.
Now that I have the Series X... I can Confidently tell you, you can turn you current console in to a Baby Series X or S with an NVMe drive on an Enclosure for the One X and or One S.
For me the jump to Seires X wasn't as insane as it will be for others because removing the storage bottle neck helps with a lot of issues which includes the increase of game response on the controller or MK on Console.
So if you are in the market for an external NVMe Solution I say get it.
cMARVEL360 thanks that’s helpful. I got the ps5 and I was tempted to buy a 1tb m.2 ssd to use as an external drive for my PS4 games. I’m still undecided because of the cost but it is very tempting.
So, no thunderbolt huh :/. I know no external enclosure is going to match the drives native performance, but thunderbolt would still help a lot
Can I use this to improve how my old laptop preforms when I game?
Does it take glock mags?
Omgoosh I was sooo close to buying this and just realising it doesn't come with the ssd inside it lolol
Guy looks like an alien but in asus style design
Will this work for the new Samsung 980 Pro?
Yes
Can I clone my Sata SSD to this and then put it in a new PC build?
Would this be ok to use as a general hard drive reader?
will it be fast enough to put games in there and play it from there?
why oh why would the clip only attach through the bumper and not the bumper and enclosure? there is also a cut out opposite the connection port...what was the thinking behind that?
Wanna know how good it works with all z1 extreme
Hello
recognises the Samsung magician program ?
What's the max capacity it can take? 1TB? 2TB?
Is there a case you do need to remove the build it heat sink on your m2
Is this option good for gaming ? Multiplayer, singleplayer... My laptop only have 512 GB and this seemed like good option to take games/school etc. with me
Thunder bolt ready?
I was looking for techwear. Lol.
Does this enclosure is compatible with firecude 530 with heatsink
Se puede utilizar en una MacBook Pro M2
Anyone know if this is compatible with phones too? Like can I just connect this to my phone and transfer files too and from it?
Pretty sure you can
I would love to know as well!!
@@frankmorabito2500 it can
Yes u can. Just make sure whatever drive u put inside you format it to the correct format compatible with devices u want to use it with.
just come to watch if the LED got read write indicator. not even a single shot of the product in working condition. maybe less selfie and more on product.
This is -Anton- _Asus._
Looks like it is 4 times more expensive than it should be. Also 1.5 times bigger.
Is this compatible with the Samsung 980 Pro with Heatsink?
So I have to install drivers for this ? Or just plug/unplug and is ready to go ?
Can I use this with the cover off for a Seagate Firecuda 530 with heatsink?
why not test the speeds on it? if you've got it and you have a stated drive why not test the drive inside a PC and again in the device and check the actual speeds and performance?
I wonder if I could use this as an external for my Xbox One. Destiny 2 load times are really bad now with the internal HDD.
Just plug it in and format SSD for games when Xbox asks you to format it. Should be quick and easy.
But can it hold an M2 which already has heat sync?
Not bad at all however there is room for improvement.
Get rid of the cable and have a retractable port instead. Or have a small coiled cable on the inside that you can use.
These things are bloody EXPENSIVE. That thing has about $30 worth of tech inside of it........bring the price down.
That said it looks quite "cool" as todays kids say.
Aren't you Antwon the techwear dude?
Quick question once the ssd is installed is it plug in play out the box? Will it automatically recognize windows and Mac or do I h ave to download additional software
I have built in heatsink is it fit if I get this enclosure or still need to remove it?
is it compatible to most brands of nvme drive?
It wouldn't be a storage device if it was volatile. The second you unplug it if it was volatile, it would wipe itself. You mean that it is solid state so there are no physically moving parts.
can anyone help me, i use this enclosure with ssd from adata x6000 on MacBook Pro 2020 but the speed was limited to 40Mps, i try with different cable the results still same. but when i try that ssd with connected directly to motherboard on PC the transfer speed showed 1440MBps.
Can I play video if I plug this to my smart tv? Thanks
Honestly it’s very very expensive compared to a lot of other alternatives x2 the price of any other company with no difference but the lights and it’s kind annoying because it’s look nice
Huge question. Is this waterproof?
My ROG Arion with Samsung SSD 990 Pro 1TB, only has 963MB/s, is that usual ?
thank you for your video ...can I use rog strix arion in my phone for music and videos?
great review, thanks!
wondering if it can be used for plug-n-play games,, does it affect the smoothness of a game ??
i mean it does support 10gbps so you if u bought a fast m.2 ssd and use usb-c or usb-a it should run games pretty good
Is it compatible with 2TB nvme ssd?
When I put in my M2, the case doesn't seem to enclose well. That being said, the case is hard and durable so if it closed property it could take a beating
You need to match the screw notch. Look at the screw there is a notch. That's where you nvme should sit.
This is awesome and I'm 2 years late!
"Gamer Noodel Arm" lol
i have mac mini m1 16gb with asus enclosure and samsung 980 pro my speed is 790mbps? what about 10gbps ?
I did not get Type A to TYPE C cable in the box. What should I do?
buy one
This looks like a huge factor.
But can you game on it? If I install a game on it, can I run it with out an issue?
thanks antwon
Can it hold the SX8100 M.2 2280 4TB SSD with chips on both sides?
Hi. Does this work also on SATA SSD with the same socket ?( Wd Blue SSD)
Dear
Friend This
ASUS ROG Strix Arion m.2 NVMe
Does USB work on Android and TV?
Can you fit western Digital SN750 with heat sink
how hot should this get? i am hitting 130 f is that ok?
is there a way to customize the rgb to match my red setup?
I really want to like this enclosure, but after multiple times it seems to break almost immediately after using it with a Mac OS system whenever you want to share files with your friends, even connecting it to an Android OS system also seems to break it, extremely poor design that should be fixed
What storage does it have ?
That will look nice for the Rog ranger Rgb backpack and the Rog phone 2
Can i use a gen3 nvme ssd in this too ot not?
Can you install games on this?
Can you put 8tb in it?
okay but does it work for gaming cause if not im not gonna buy it
Does this support UASP?
Can we use it with 2TB m.2 nvme drive? I am asking this because i tried with a Crucial 2TB nvme m.2 drive and the system is super unstable... usb ports loses connection and the whole system is stack... i tried with 2080ti type c port, inside port of z390 asus motherboard and at the back... i tried different cables.. all the same... unfortunately i didnt have another drive to try with 2tb of storage. An 500 m.2 nvme works perfect though. Please help if you know anything about it. Thanks. Great presentation bytheway.
Yeah, so how those pads are going to cool it down?
Hi, i have a question. can i use this item like clone my drive to a larger SSD?
I have a pc that has 256gb PCIe NVMe ssd and planning to buy 1tb ssd for upgrading my storage. Should i buy a cheap one or the pricey and better one? Does it affect my gaming experience if i buy the cheap one? (Sorry im still noob 😬)
In games with long loading times, having a faster SSD will make a noticable difference. Especially if you mean slow as in "only" 500 MB/s.
I suppose you are referring to something around 1500-2000 MB/s read speed (slow one) compared to those around 3500 MB/s?
For a TB-sized one, the price difference is around 30 dollars, let's say an Intel 660P vs. Corsair Force MP510. And as a boot/game drive, that's worth it in my opinion.
On the other hand, if you already have a really good boot/gamedrive and just want to expand with a 2TB (M.2.-PCI controller cards have gotten quite cheap), then getting something like Intel 660P or Kingston A2000 (a little faster and more durable) would be more sensible.
Does it support sata3? We would all like to know.
Yes
NO, it wont. This enclosure is for M.2 format SSD drives. Not for Sata3.
