I had the Garmin and I started having charging issues. I love the Garmin, easy to use and simple. I just bought OverDryve 8 Pro 2 today. Thanks for doing a little tutorial on it. The book it comes with should have much more information than it does

You can stop the bouncing by using some thin self sticking foam insulating door strips from 3M(?). Cut two small pieces and put them on the dash so they will be at either end of the device, and let the device sit on the foam. Keeps it very steady. Don't rest it on the dash because that can result in some severe shocks to the device. This works on any GPS.

Rand McNally just came out with a major update on this unit. It really was not up to par when I bought it about 5 months ago I could not hear the voice for navigation when I called Rand McNally they told me they knew of the problem and all units had it so hopefully the new update resolves it. I had the Garmin OTR 700 but it did not give you much information on the screen like the Rand McNally does but when you step up to the OTR800 it has three additional boxes that have information for you and it has a red light camera. The Rand McNally needs wi-fi where is the Garmin OTR series uses the Bluetooth from your phone which I like better I still like my old Rand McNally 720 better than those 2 but it finally died after eight years of use. Good luck be safe

I had been waiting for another GPS with an integrated camera. The DEZL was the only version with a camera until now. I also needed better graphics, more options, more location information and the larger screen doesn't hurt either.
My Garmin was just outdated and newer versions had the same old software, buy didn't even come with an integrated camera.
My Garmin works great in my 92 Ford E250 Van.

Its February 17th 2022. How is the Rand McNally Pro 2 working for you today? Is the suction mount still working?

My HONEST assessment is, I would buy the Garmin Dezl version with the camera integrated.
This Rand McNally looks great, shows the weather with an Internet connection, eats up my high speed data until it throttles down, has many options (I don't use) but, the most important thing is DIRECTIONS. This is where the unit fails. Too many times I have been routed incorrectly, or the address cannot be found.
I actually have gotten much better at double checking different maps and trip planning, due to my distrust in the units ability to provide accurate directions.
Updates are all from Rand Mcnally, not something you can download from the web like Garmin. So the fact that there are obvious shortfalls, there is nothing I can do until an update drops, then hope it"s a map update.
I paid for it so I just deal with it, but I'll be moving back to Garmin soon. It works well if you only use major highways along your route. New Jersey and NY will charge it fails utterly.
So yes. The biggest problem is finding very common addresses and getting accurate directions. All of which are highly important.

Where do we find the truckstop locator on this GPS?

    • @1stgen.trucker825
      @1stgen.trucker825  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Tap the address bar indicated by "Where to?"
5 Tabs appear with a list of previous address searches . The 1st tab, top left says, Travel Centers".
You can also get to the "Where to?" search bar from the "Rand Navigation" tab on the Home page.

Yeah. No satellite view, but it will give you a North GPS view. Just tap the compass icon. Top right corner. You will need to tap the icon often though. Seems it requires reassurance that you want that perspective, often.

My Garmin has inaccurate maps, and the voice commands are lousy. I'm always encountering new streets that are not listed by Garmin, or directed over bridges with restrictions. It sounds like this unit doesn't lie as much

An update needs to be completed with Garmins and they only work, as far as I know, from laptops and PC's.

Well dude...i do not agree with you. I bought one 3 days ago and luv it. I have had a Garmin Dezl, other Garmins and several Rand Mcnallys. Its the same as phone close all of your windows. Its an android. It uses power. Its the same as your pho e, the more apps you have open, yhe more it uaes, its commk sense man. As for being heavy, why did t you checkbit out before you bought it.. i have mine about 2 inches off of the dash and it doesnt move, its solid.. I will tell you the same thing i told two other reveiwers, you guys give it a horrible name and its bullshit. Mine is awesome. Of course you have it plugged in...is there a cord??? Plug it in. What do you expect. One guy was bitching about the words and symbols are too small?? How did you get your license?? Who is your doctor? Who did your eye test? Did you pay him off. Its an awesome GPS..

Not sure how a difference of opinion got off into an emotional rant with questions about my license and common sense. At no time were your intellect or senses questioned.
I am happy you are happy with your purchase.
It is alright to differ in opinion about a thing. We're all adults here presumably, let's conduct ourselves accordingly and keep the thread informative so that people can learn. Emotional tirades and no spell checks give the impression that neither of us knows what we're talking about.
      Let's fix that going forward.
