Thank you brother, it is so much more human and enjoyable to learn it from you than to read a dry and cold manual. You've done it and spared us that tedious work by creating and organizing all these great videos and for that I am very much grateful ! All the best to you !!!
I can see the benefit of renaming your mic inputs like the acoustic guitar mic, but I can also see leaving a project to work on something else, disconnecting your cables and plugging them back in and now your acoustic guitar mic is on track 5 while the acoustic guitar (track 3) has your bass hooked into it but it's still labeled "acoustic guitar mic". I'd rather just leave them the generic names.
In the video for the manual punching in and out, you never explained what the keystroke was for doing the punching in and out manually. Is this because the selecting of the time (so it does it auto) is the way to do it instead of doing it manually?
Hi Kenny, Thank you so much for those Reaper videos! Did you consider making a video for recording audio to the accompaniment already in reaper, say in form of MIDI tracks? Or that was already covered by some videos? Thanks a lot
Hello Kenny, I have just started following your videos and am also completely new to Daws and Reaper. I currently cannot get the monitoring while recording to work, or playback on Reaper. I Can make it work on my interface, but would rather not have to manually change it. I am using a Mac and have tried looking in preferences and system preferences to try to fix this. Please help me out as i know this may be such a noob question, thank you.
I tried fading in/out on a MIDI recording while watching this video. Even with the fades set as your video explained, there was no fading on playback. Does the fading only work with audio signals?? Thanks.
At 5:35 he talks about using our keystroke to punch in and out but never tells us what keystroke we use? Ok, I just watched another of his videos. Make sure the track you want to work with is the only one that has the record button on and you click the big record button to punch in and punch out. Now, Im not sure how to record the new guitar part in that punched out section! WHen I record it just records over everything else too. How do I get it to just record during the punched out time only? Uggh And how is monitoring off on a track different than just muting it?
I worked out what’s happening: Press the play button and then press ctrl r to punch in and out Also, if you go to preferences - playback and uncheck ‘stop/repeat playback at end of project’ then you can punch in and then out with nothing else recorded, and the playhead will keep going until you press space (as seen at 4:10).
I have a digital keyboard plugged into my audio interface and a midi keyboard plugged into my laptop. Why would the output of my midi keyboard go out the speakers but not my digital keyboard (it records in Reaper, but the sound still comes out of its own speakers).
When I set it to "Recording Monitor: AUTO" I still can hear myself on the monitors while not recording... is this normal? 'Cause for me "Recording Monitor: AUTO" and "Record Monitoring: ON" do basically the same thing...
what audio interface best within 30000 rupees with outstanding quality, and microphone within 30000 rupees with outstanding quality?plz reply Great Keny
Kenny, on my reaper it does not show that I have more than one input even though I have a microphone preamp and a line in on my Audio interface. I cannot get the signal from the line into reaper. Any suggestions on this?
Kenny on other vids you keep saying "go to directory "...where or what dya mean dude,..also what is punching in and out ..you are assuming we all know this stuff...how about a slow down for newbies and in my case older newbies ty..
i can record fine, I'm getting sound and its working, but when I go to playback I get nothing!! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!! This is so frustrating! I don't know whats wrong or how to fix it!! are there any other DAW 's that you'd recommend cause as of right now I'm pretty fed up with Reaper!
Make sure your outputs are configured correctly out of your audio interface to your headphones or speakers properly. Everything should be heard. Go to preferences and go to Audio and set it up there. You should hear then. If not, let me know, I can help you out with it..
Namin Nooman thank you! I figured it out so now I can hear it back, but the thing is, the sound I'm hearing back is awful, it's like a distorted static robot.
Check your sample rate setting... that usually happens when there is a sync issue. 24 bit 48khz should be good as you intend to do video, which I am assuming. It can be changed in the Project Setting. Are you Mac or PC? And what interface are you using to record? Focusrite?
Hey Man I love these tutorials. I have a problem though. When I record my digital piano there's a delay in the monitoring. It puts me off recording. How do I fix it?
Also, had another question: You adjust the edits by holding shift, but what if you want to adjust the edits over multiple tracks in a temporary group? Shift makes it so that you are only adjusting one at a time in that case does it not?
Yes, that's what is happening, but upon further investigation, it looks like it only does this if I punch out when the cursor is not over top of a track.
In my comment above, I went over that (It is Shift + Up/Down on Windows, command + Up/Down for Mac) while also mentioning that the sound picture wasn't centered as I zoomed in.
You probably have not selected your audio interface and currently getting input from your laptop's mic. To change it, go to Preference>Audio>Device>Audio System and then select your device driver (for my case it's ASIO). There, you could select Input 1, Input 2, and so on depending on how many input your interface has.
@@PrantikNath I'm not sure about that as it varies depending on your interface. But you could try ASIO too if that's an option under Audio System. If not, please check if you have already downloaded the necessary drivers for your Focusrite.
You are an outstanding teacher. Your videos sold me on Reaper as a solution for my needs - thank you!
These videos are absolutely great Kenny, so clear, comprehensive and helpful. I couldn't have done without them. Thank you!

I thought I had a pretty good handle on Reaper until these videos came along and blew my mind! These are just Great tutorials

How did you record the punch in and out parts while pressing CTRL R and simultaneously strumming guitar chords?
I didn't. It was pre-recorded.
you can also make macros
You can setup some midi pedals to control recording.
Best teacher I've had in a long time!!!
Thank you so much for this playlist its the best help i could ask for
Some of the best software training, paid or otherwise.
Thank you Kenny! What a fantastic resource.

Help me please. I can´t see the IN and IN/FX Input 1, How can I see it when I insert a new track. Thank you.
This is exactly what I have been looking for.

Can I install Reaper on Apple system? I mean, I work on both iMac and Windows but I have no clue about Linux. Thanks for this video.
Punch in,,,,punch out. while strumming and recording... its quite confusing.
How do you zoom in and 'adjust the punch' at 8:13? Thanks for the videos!
Hold down Shift and grab the crossfade Left or Right. Thanks

How do you record over an instrumental or a beat you drag in from TH-cam? Do you have a specific video on that?
How can I setup a automation hi- and lowcut in a track and wich one is the best plugin in the basic package of Reaper? Can you tell me?

Mines still shows the takes in different lanes event though I selected "trim existing items behind new recording". Any ideas?
am i the only one that doesnt know what punching is?
It's when you record within the current recording to fix a part of it. Punching in and punching out.
I thought it was when you hit the musician/performer for screwing up or asking you to fix it later.
It's like kicking with your hands

there is no input option on my track

do you need a mouse or something to zoom in closer on the actual audio waves ? how do you do that?
