    Gustav II Adolf founded Gothenburg, so this song means a little extra. Because it was Gustav who went out in the 30 years' war and fell himself because he was a king who himself fought in the front line. A previous injury left him unable to wear metal armor, making him even more vulnerable. In Gothenburg, we still eat Gustav Adolf's cake on his death anniversary, November 6th

    In the 1600's, the time where the thirty year war happened (1618-1648) the average life expectancy was between 30 to 50 years. So like the title of the song says.. It was quite literally a lifetime of war for these people. It's sad to know that there's people who were born in 1618 grew up, probably fought in the war and died by the time the war ended in 1648, without ever getting to know what a life in peace looks and feels like.

    • @reecedignan8365
      @reecedignan8365 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      There were people who grew up in 1602 became 16 were immediately recruited into the army and fought 30 years all the way to the end - and we have records from these people.
      As the title said you were in there for a lifetime.

    • @martenkahr3365
      @martenkahr3365 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just keep in mind the average life expectancy has actually been pretty consistently hovered between 55 to 70 years among those who survive to be 16, until the 20th century when medical science really started getting good enough for people to start regularly living into their 80s and beyond. Literally all the average life expectancy numbers for various time periods that are way below that 55-70 number, are completely because of infant and childhood mortality dragging down the total average.

      @@Nightwalk444Of course I can't relate because nobody here spend their whole live in war :)
      It's just that swedish version sounds like its made in a way to put listener into a shoes of a single soldier, while english version shows more general look on how war started , why , how many people died and what destruction it caused.
      Chorus in lifetime of war was giving me chills when I discovered this song and its still one of my favourite from sabaton.
      But En Livstid I Krig did nothing to me to be honest. Maybe its because I dont know the language so I cant enjoy it without watching video or lyrics . Its still a great song but its not even in T10 for me.

    I have seen sabaton live so many times, like 7+ times, everytime this song gets played the crowd ALWAYS sing the entire song, you can hear it in this video aswell if you listen a bit for it!
    Both english and swedish are really good song and tell a story about the war from different points of view, but the swedish one gets everyone patrotical no matter what country they are from since the swedish song is about a soldiers point of view, it feels more personal and can be aplied to anyone that thinks of how it would be to go to war and those that have been in a war.
    Everyone shares tears for the fallen, that is why i love sabatons songs, all are about war, about the soldiers from any side, about heroes and powerful events. They don't take a side, they just sing about sad events, inspiring heroes and events that everyone SHOULD know of and take inspiration from!
    Very cool that you get into the lyrics and feel the music hits, there is just an insane combo that fits perfectly together!
    Although it is also a sad song, but price of a mile is also a very powerful song!

    What gives this a somber undertone is a strong "it could have been me" effect.
    Thirty years war indeed lasted that long, so Sweden ran low on men and started conscripting younger and younger men to fill the ranks. And they were indeed forced, not volunteered.
    Many women lost first their husbands and then their sons to the same war, never to be heard again.
    And the audience knows that had they been born in a different time, it could have been them.
