I live with my husband and children in a very small home, so there’s no room for sewing in the house. But fortunately there’s room in front of where my husband parks his motorbike in the shed. I get very cold in winter, and I boil in summer as I make my quilts.... but despite the discomfort, I love every moment lol. One day I hope to have a sewing room as pretty, relaxing and functional as yours!
Thank you for sharing this! I love that you make do with the usable space you have. Your love of quilting shines through 💕 quilting truly can make us happy in all different circumstances and places!
I understand that by US standards this room is considered small, as oftentimes people have basements they can use, however by UK standards that room was still a good size. Thanks for sharing your hints and tips. Storage is key and those bookcases look great - not sure I’d manage that level of gorgeousness so well done there too. It would have been great if we could have seen the other end of the room to get a true idea of the space you have and if you had any additional storage/design wall etc on the wall facing you. Thanks. Happy New Year!
Great space. Our quild had a cutting pressing table that gave many a terrible back ache. How I love sales. A set(3sizes) of bed risers were in the clearance bin. I bought several and gave my friends relief from back strain. Yes, we set up our pressing board and cutting areas every week. My mother-in-law used her dining room table to sew on and took all her supplies down when she served supper. We sure are fortunate to have special spaces no matter how sparce they may be. Keep us in stitches. Looking forward to seeing more on your usage of scraps.
Thanks for sharing this. Many of us do not have a whole room for sewing but this gives us all ideas for whatever space we do have. I hope that one day I will have a room for my crafting and that it is as well organised and pretty as yours.
I haven’t read all the comments so perhaps someone else has already touched on what I am about to say. You have most of your fabrics in the open subject to the light from your window. You need to be conscious of fading. If your window is treated, you don’t need to worry; but if not, perhaps you might want to acquire some sun film at the hardware store. I suggest this from my own personal experience.
Just lovely, my room is small and I got a lot of ideas from your room, clean, well organized, functional it’s what really matter when when quilting/ sewing. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and knowledge with us. Blessings
You have a lovely sewing studio. Thank you for sharing ideas to help make our sewing space a bit more functional. I especially liked the ideas for scraps and shelves.
Thanks for the ideas. I inherited my mom’s fabric and have a perpetual cluttered room. I am taking some of these ideas and trying to organize better. LOVE how you and you mom design together and how Billy is involved and how all of y’all have your strengths that support each other. LOVE the podcast.
Heading into the sewing room now to see what I can do to REorganize (don't we all do this?) for going into the new year. I had some built in' added, flooring and a few other changes, but this past year my heart hasn't not let me spend my time in this space. I am planning to get back into quilting in 2021. thanks for sharing your lovely room.
Lovely space. I don’t know how you do all that you do without a design wall. It was a game changer for me. I have seen sewing studios where something can be dropped down in front of the shelves. Sort of like a shade. Your husband sounds like he could work that out for you! I think you would love having one. You are proof that an elaborate space is not necessary for success. Billy bookcases are the best! Good luck in all you do.
Hi Chelsi, I've been watching a lot of your Mom's videos and I must say you have done a superb with your room. I'm particularly fond of your antique desk cutting table. I have one similar to it. It's a solid oak executive desk made in the 1940's. I recently got a 36" by 56" cutting mat to cover and protect the desk top as that's where I do my sewing. The drawer space I have is incredible. I also have those plastic bins from Walmart to store my fat quarters in. Take care and thanks for sharing your room!
Your small space is so well organized - you’re definitely your mother’s daughter! I too have many Billy bookcases in my sewing room but I really like that you have made them look built in- super nice looking! Thanks for sharing your space with us.
Chelsi- what a lovely sew room and you did an amazing job of sharing your space and explaining each area and giving storage tips and tricks. Great job girl! Well done 🥰😘 so proud of you!!!!!!
What a lovely, well organised, large sewing area. I work at my kitchen table as we have no extra rooms in my house. I have to lug everything out and put it away every time I sew which means I waste about 20 minutes of precious sewing time. I dream of having my own crafting room one day. I doubt it will look as beautiful as yours though!
I did that exact same thing for a few years before we converted this space! I felt the same way when using my kitchen as a makeshift sewing area. I hope you'll be able to make a more permanent space soon, but for now that temporary space will still bring you so many fun sewing memories!
What a lovely studio! Getting organized and staying organized are two things I love doing in my studio. I too have a small space and you have inspired me to do use your built in Ikea hack. Thank you for the great organizational tips.
What a functional, organized space you have. Thank you for sharing!!! I can’t believe it but I have almost the exact work desk that you own from your husband’s grandfather. Ours was gifted to my family about 52 years ago. And to think I hate that it takes a lot of space that could be used in a bedroom! You’ve opened my eyes! Merry Christmas!
Thank you Maryann, you are so sweet! And I love this fun connection we have with the desks! It really has been such a wonderful addition to my space. I felt the same for so long thinking it was too bulky, but now I love how it adds to the usability and functionality of my sewing room! Merry Christmas to you too!!
Hi Chelsi I just wanted to tell you I loved your video and your sewing room is spot on!! Especially your storage you custom made. Thanks for all the great videos I enjoy you and your mom so so much!! Take care and keep up the great work🌷
I love your sewing room! It may be small in footprint, but you've done a great job in organizing it. I love the variety of storage containers - it makes for an interesting and artful way to display your fabrics and tools. Thanks for sharing - now on to my room to see if I can make any changes!
What an inspiring video. I love how simple you make it - 3 main areas is all you need! Come January I am going to get busy organizing. Thank you for all the wonderful tips😊 I also love your podcasts!
It's beautiful Chelsi! Thank you for sharing your suggestions. I'm updating my space as I moved into a different room last month, and I'm still figuring it out. I love the Ikea hack! It looks very nice and I appreciate that it's budget friendly.

Thanks for the guided tour! Chelsi, you speak clearly and at a pleasant rate/speed. I can hear and process every word! Marry Christmas to you and your family!
Charming room! As some mentioned I think this isn’t a small room (relatively a good size in fact) outside of the US lol 😅 haha. But thanks for sharing because I could relate to your presentation more as I’m much closer to your age than your mom though I love both of your videos! 😊 I loved that you used cheaper options but still look quite nice! 💕 I could never tell the shelves were from IKEA (they look much sturdier than the out of box Billy series!). The cutting station desk would look even more beautiful if you stained white or even painted white (milk paint maybe) with distressed look to match your sewing desk and storage space! Or blue or green stain may add a pop of color! Thanks for the inspiration! ❤
Such a great space! My future designated room, aka kids room currently, will definitely have some of those shelving units. The room has no wardrobes, so already a bonus with wall space. Might be awhile before this all happens, as kids are probably 10 years away from leaving home. 🤔 But enjoying them whilst I have them. Merry Christmas!
That's wonderful to have the added wall space! It will definitely give you ample room for shelf storage in the future 💕 What a blessing those kids are...reminds me of my littles (they'll be around for some time too).
You have a charming warm working area. I can tell it's a nice spot to Express your ideas. I wish you and your mom all success as you are both very talented! With that said I'd like to offer one thought. You may consider working with someone on YT video delivery. I promise by this time next year you'd be gobsmacked at the improvement in your videos. Truly I wish you well and a little time invested in some basic YT communication skills would help you immensely. Just a bit of smoothing and eliminating redundancy will be huge! I truly hope you know this is not a diss but meant as a helpful message from a fan. Hugs!
I really enjoyed the tour of your beautiful space! I do have a sewing room; I know many have to make do with the kitchen table or something similar, so I feel very fortunate. I love your shelves, and since my sewing room was originally intended as a spare bedroom, I would love to remove the closet doors and install shelving similar to yours. You've given me some inspiration! By the way, I have the same sewing machine as yours, and I love it! Happy Holidays!
I love your studio and how organized it is. I do not have a shelf, and yours is perfect. I may have to go to Austin IKEA (I’m in Waco, TX) and see what they have. I also have tons of fabric I need to sell as my taste has changed. Any ideas how I can get rid of it? Oh well, I love your fabrics and patters and of course your moms too. Have a great week and God bless. 👏🏻💕👏🏻
I have the same sewing machine and I love it!! I have organization issues/goals that I need to address asap! But I would rather spend my little bit of free time sewing, lol.
Thanks for the tour. Love it! It’s funny because I was looking at the billy bookcases the other day. My sewing room is in a large loft so lots of slanted walls (and very high ceilings) However I still may get some of them and ask my husband to build them in. He’s very handy like yours. Also I have my sewing machine on a vanity too! My husband bought a folding adjustable craft table from Joann’s for me for Christmas, to cut out projects and do the larger quilts. My current desk /work table is too low to cut projects out. It kills my back. I can’t wait to set it up. Thanks again for the inspiration and MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎅🏼
This is a great question! When finishing up a large quilt I will sometimes move my machine to the project table where there's more space to evenly distribute a large quilt top!
I also use a vanity for my sewing table, mine has three drawers on each side. Matches bedroom furniture from when I was growing up that I’m presently using.
I find I need space beyond my machine... When you're piecing blocks into rows, do they just bunch up against the wall? My space is larger than yours, but not utilized as well. I don't know how to organize my space! Your space looks incredibly peaceful and relaxing.
I totally agree!! I do have just enough space behind the table that the quilt falls through the other side, but for larger quilt tops ill finish up rows on my project table! Thank you for your kind comments, I hope my video inspires you when organizing your own space!
@@chelsistratton3208 It ABSOLUTELY inspired me!! I told my husband that I need to pull everything out, go through it, donate what I don't use, then start putting everything back in, but organized and pretty (and I showed your space for reference). For some reason, sewing in a messy and/or unorganized space puts you in a different headspace than sewing in a well-organized and beautiful space. Thank you so much!
Hi Joyce! My room measures about 9 ft x 7ft. After adding the shelves I lose about 6 inches of floor space in depth, but gain SO much more space since it's now floor to ceiling shelving!!
Hi Chelsi. Thank you for sharing your sewing room with us. I have to ask. How do you put together your quilts when you get to the point when you are adding several rows of blocks together and then the borders when your machine is so close to the wall. Do you have a special trick? Merry Christmas to you and your family!!!
Hi Lois! That us a wonderful question! For a larger quilt I move my sewing machine to my project table! This reduces the tension on the quilt rows while putting them together as well as the overall quilt top ❤ I even do this when adding binding after getting the quilt back from the quilter! It's not too much of a hassle for me to do and definitely helps when I need more space!
Hi Mary! This is a great observation! While piecing larger quilts together (sewing rows and then rows together) I will often move my machine to my larger project table! This helps relieve any extra tension from sewing together the last stages of a larger quilt top 💕
I have some space but that room doesn't have good lighting. I'm thinking of integrating part of our master bedroom for sewing but that encroaches on our personal space. I just can't figure out what to do. Thanks for sharing!
Where do you store extra books and patterns you want to keep but don’t necessarily use at the current time? Also how do you hold up your large quilts when seeing on you seeing desk?
Thank you for the tour love your room. Just a quick question where did you get the pattern for your bag you using for your rotary cutting I really like it.
Great video. I too have a small space and I am always looking for ideas on how to make the most of it. I really like the wooden boxes on the tall shelves on your right (looking at the video), where did you purchase those, please?
Hi Linda! Thank you for your kind words! Those are antique brick molds I found at a shop in Texas! One of my favorite things to do is go to antique stores. A lot of times they have great and unique storage options!
@@chelsistratton3208 I love going to antique and second-hand shops too. I thought that they looked like brick moulds, as I have some too. I hadn't thought of storing fabric in them though - great idea, thank you.
I just stumbled on this video about your small space sewing room! I loved it! I found lots of useful ideas. Thanks! You mentioned your mom . . . Who is she? Sounds like I might like her videos, too????
This is the most realistic/relatable sewing room I’ve seen and I love it!

I sew in the garage next to the car lol. It’s not that warm so I bundle up before I go out there.
I love that so much!!
Beautiful!
Thanks for the sewing room tour. What is the size of your small space? It help give reference to see how my items might fit in that arrangement.
Small table... but how do you quilt your quilts? I seem to need a large table just to quilt a lap size/twin size quilt.
Great video. I am trying to set up a space now and this was helpful. Can I ask where you iron?
Nice space! Lots of light. How big is your room?
Thanks for sharing.
I just stumbled on this video about your small space sewing room! I loved it! I found lots of useful ideas. Thanks!
You mentioned your mom . . . Who is she? Sounds like I might like her videos, too????
