Hooray, you fixed my city! Thanks, Biffa. I laughed out loud at the bus stop by the cargo bay. I don't think I realized where I was putting that when I did that. I was just thinking "this place looks like it could use a bus" without looking at what buildings were there. Thanks again! :)
Easiest tips for the game. Add one lane after every on-ramp. Remove one lane after every off-ramp. Keep a minimum number of lanes per road based on whatever speed you want the traffic to move (highway vs suburban) Stop. *clap* Making. *clap* Spaghetti. *clap* Interchanges. *clap*
Sometimes a slip to stop traffic overwhelming roundabouts, either under or over, is OK. Some of my best and most functional junctions are spaghetti like even with lane maths and traffic manager.
10:30 that's a basic "turbo roundabout" setup. You take the inner part when you want to go further than half the exits away. You take the outer when you want to go right the next or one exit later. These are quite common in Western Europe (NL, Germany, Denmark, Flanders) and are usually placed at busy national intercity roads or right after highway exits. They work better than multi-lane roundabouts, because they actually split the traffic. With multi-lane roundabouts it happens often that drives run in to one another.
Biffa, Love the channel. Finding you last week has helped my city tons! I had an average 22% of traffic with 100,000 people and now I got my traffic up to ~75%! You know best!
12:20 in the second roundabout people coming off the highway can only turn right, because you used the lane selector. There is no node between the roundabout entrance and the first roundabout exit, so they can't switch lanes (switching only happens at nodes). Because the cars are forced to take the right lane they will all take the first exit. This is why they choose the first roundabout: the second roundabout does not allow them to do this.
@@phorewhoresman1897 I don't think that it can get Biffa banned, but if may set up an age restriction on his videos, so that no one with the under age filter set up could not see his videos. Trust me I set it up for my nephew and now he can't see half of the videos he used to watch.
Hey biffa, i was wondering if you could do a video where you set up an airport or harbor in a large city without it causing traffic issues. I think it could help a lot of people and be an interesting video idea. Maybe even make it realistic or something. Thanks!
Harbors, airports, and cargo rail kindof need their own dedicated close-by highway access, in such a way that industries don't have to muddle through town to get to them. Well, this always works for me. Oh yes: be generous with the roundabouts in Industries areas (farms, mines, etc.) because of their horrid amount of trucks everywhere in those areas.

Im not really sure about how did I start watching your videos (like 10 days ago), all I can say is that Im becoming a better person, my city traffic works far better, and im incredibly relaxed while watching them
The large truck that was at the beginning, sitting sideways on the motorway, the question was asked if you would ever see that in real life. I can say living in Florida in the US, I have seen that happen multiple times as well as a full u-turn
Imagine if they added a DLC where car accidents could happen, and it could cause traffic to slow down. In the DLC, they could have tow truck service to pick up the vehicles that have crashed.
Seen a horse drawn gypsy caravan crossing motorway like that before on TV. From the fast lane right across the carriageway like that to get into someone's field.
Regarding lane switching: the biggest issue is when cars wants to change two lanes at the same time, they come to a full stop and basically turn in a 90 degree angle. Simply preventing that helps, and I do that through the lane connector by manually allowing each lane to shift to a lane next to it. Let's say you have a three lane road. The lane to the left can go forward or change to the middle lane, the middle lane can change to the left and right lane or continue forward, and the right lane can go forward or change to the middle lane. It's a bit of work but it really helps.

Four days ago TH-cam recommended one of your videos about fixing traffic. Until then, I had never even heard of the game. Now I have 12,000 people in my city 😁
The idea he used was to have everyone come in on the outside of the roundabout and then keep going to more internal lanes until they can get off at an internal lane, meaning less crossing between people going off and going on. It's not a bad idea, but teh setup was not as good as it could be. But removing them may not have been the best solution perhaps.
I started playing Cities Skylines and found your channel and immediately subscribe to it. It's amazing, keep doing great job and videos. Greetings from Croatia.
I think the biggest problem with a lot of mayors, myself included for the longest time, is that we try to cram in as much as possible in as little space as possible so the traffic is just on top of itself all over the place. Why build industrial around a cargo hub, as but one example, it's because the mayor obviously thinks it's a waste of space to do otherwise. I used to fall into that trap when I first started the game too, but really once you learn to relax and just spread things out MORE, you find the city functions better as a whole.
I think an orbital highway/motorway would fix a lot of problems. I've built one on a city with around 300,000 population whilst my traffic was at around 38% and now it's always above 80% but it did take a bit of time. You'll need traffic manager president edition though

Found this "Fix it" series a week or two back. Made me like the game so much I actually bought it. Note: vanilla game without mods was not as enjoyable. The mods make this game so much better and easier to play. Also I think Biffa sounds like this math guy I follow on youtube. Also, also, extra points for Linus comment.
The 4 lane highway isn't a mod. I think it is part of the Mass Transit DLC, but I have them in my city and I don't have any mods that add new roads.

Grabs my tea and enjoys :)
I wish I had a city with bad traffic to send in but all mine are 80% +
Enjoy the tea and the traffic free cities 😀
Roundabouts and Spiffing brit references? Hmmm Biffa has gone mad I tell you!
Timestamp for spiffing?
MrWip3out he mentions getting a sponsorship from Yorkshire tea
Maybe you should get two cups of tea so you won’t run out mid-video!
He needs a bigger cup, maybe like an American coffee mug.
Phore Whoresman well coffee doesn’t mix with tea maybe a bigger tea cup or docm’s composter
Biffa, I haven't been watching you channel for very long but these traffic fix videos are very relaxing and it's been a nice way for me to wind down before bed for the past couple weeks. Thanks for uploading them I always enjoy them.
👍
Ive been trying to apply some of your methods for fixing traffic, and i feel like im making things worse. I have to be doing something wrong. Once my city has grown a bit i will send it in for you to fix
Biffa Showing great restraint with only one Roundabout, Amazing, and it's official Guys 'n' Girls fully endorsed now by "Yorkshire Tea" Yorkshire Tea is the only Tea for Me. The Bags are Square and i don't care, It Tastes Biffing. :-). xxxx
Ahhh yeah 😀
