Hey, Biffa, what i saw on 17:37. You have 2 lanes from down-left to 6-l highway. After little road-segment same 2 lane MUST go to the down-right 2 lanes on road around Cargo Terminal. People from city highway CAN"T go to Cargo, they must make a big roundabout around all Industry sector. This is a really issue. Not just that, but the city has so damn much highways. I mean i didn't play cities skylines yet. But i'd actually try to build a city like it would look like in the real world. Highways are meant to connect multiple cities and not just have a big paved place where cars can go around in your city.
Marco Doe, I’m curious. How many modern cities have you lived in? I’ve lived in the suburbs of several, and multiple highways typically run *through* the cities, with the cities acting as ‘hubs’ where people switch between them, and with highways running *around* the cities as well.
@@Vessekx This is a pure example of overusing highway systems.. but more than that roads that lead to no where. Alternate routes help significantly and the AI are pretty good on taking it. Here you have about 20 roads and even highways that just end no where or extend drive time considerably. Highways connect hot spots that allow for travel not just used to surround housing developments.
@@marcodoe4690 Uh... in big cities, you take the highway to go to the other side of the city. Why would you choose to go through 154 stop lights and take 10 times longer getting there?
@@Salidin111 Living in a major city in the U.S. (Phoenix, Arizona) I use the high way systems here every single day. It takes a minimum 20-30 minutes to get to the other side of the city going 75mph. Now if I were to take the 6-8 lane main roads going 45mph having to stop every couple blocks at a light, it would take hours. The highways are essential to moving around this city efficiently. Not even factoring in the big trucks that would ruin the normal roads and further clog traffic on normal roads.
To be fair the arrow doesn't show up on the in-game road and he just missed it's there in the mod too. Not saying it didn't bother me either but it's an easy one to miss. That's why I like wiggling my intersections with move it mod. Lanes must appear properly.
@@adamgray1753 lol tell me about it, we're often lucky to have functional traffic lights in my town even. And there are only four, on the national road. There are roundabout signs but no yield when approaching :p. Would've needed a serious biffa treatment if the place wasn't small enough to het away with it.
Biffa i think you made a little mistake at 17:28 The cars from the highway always have to bypass the cargo station, with the little two lane road around. This means they have to drive once through the hole loop if they want to go to the station.
yeah i have seen that to. Fix: off the highway 2 right . Next only 1 right and one straight, so they can reach the Cargostation easy. Offcorse that wouled need a roadfix from 3 lanes to 4 lanes so that they wont do so "hokypoky" messing whit each other.
I think it's even worse... he forced all traffic from the intersection to pass along the cargostation and after that they are forced to leave the area again. so noone can enter that industrial area via that intersection.
What they will do, is come off the highway at that interchange, have to turn right to bypass the station. when they rejoin the main road the have to use the 2 lanes which takes them to the next interchange along the highway. THEN they will go all the way around it, to drive back in to the industrial area using the same road. So they can get into the industrial area, but it is prompting them to use the 2nd junction. likewise anyone wanting to leave the industrial area would be able to use the other junction. I don't think he intended it, but restricting entering the industrial area to use one junction and those leaving to use the other is actually a good idea as there is less requirement to change lanes on the roundabouts which is what slows things up.
Not a little mistake, led to much of the trouble for the rest of the video. There are so many more little things that could improve this traffic with better lane management, especially (ironically) on the roundabouts!
@@afrocomber - Actually micromanaging roundabouts is usually a mistake. On those oval-shaped roundabout interchanges he should have either used the arrows (not drawn the lines) like he did on every ground-level roundabout or just down graded to 2 lanes like he wound up doing. The secret is to only have each lane have one purpose (left, right, or straight), not to necessarily force what lane it goes into. Sometimes that's necessary, but relatively rarely. Honestly, he could have even left the 6 lane roundabouts as 6 lanes if he just fixed the lane arrows to only do one thing in each lane. That's usually enough to get the AI to not be stupid and spread out across available lanes.
There needs to be an all powerful entity just like this man, who governs all traffic. That way whenever I yell out "Why isn't there a damn turn lane!?!?" it will maybe happen.
TH-cam decided to dump a bunch of people onto this video out of nowhere. I have no idea what this game even is. 😂 Loved his voice though it is so weirdly satisfying.
First off, I really like your channel, I always watch a video during my lunch break atm and taking a lot away from the tips you give for my own cities. Also it's always nice to see you also make mistakes, not only I do haha. Starting at 17:29 you basically create a scenario where people get off the high way, go around the back of the cargo train station and have to go back on to the highway because of your hugo there :D
Immediately, I saw that the various neighborhood "islands" needed several non-highway direct connections--which did get addressed after the pressing interchange issues. 👍 Did I pass the quiz? :) I tend to let the highways go around everything and then have six-lane arterial roads do the fast connections between city areas. That keeps traffic hovering at around 80%.
TH-cams Algorithm actually worked. I had never seen this series but love watching this game. Your idea of fixing peoples worlds is a really good fun one to watch. Whats even better is seeing theres 40 more episodes to watch.
Just what I was thinking, there isn't another node in the middle where they can switch to go straight... he does seem to rush sometimes and overlook things like this.
Before watching Biffa fixes cities: Traffic? More lanes for you! After watching Biffa fixes cities: Traffic? Less lanes for you! Begone horky-borkyness with a sip of tea :)
@@destynnee But more important is lane management and ristricting choices. Here we have a 3 way highway which get's 4 lanes off which splits in 2 for each which then has to weave into 1 into the next highway. Which clogs up every day since they upgraded it. If they would just narrow the other main road from 3 to 2 and gave my road 1 lane access it would have been solved with just some paint.
I'm the exact same. I'm that idiot who even doubled up his six lane roads at certain points. It helps a little bit to a point, if you place the junctions right, but not by much. To be fair in the base game you don't have nearly as many options available. Makes it tough.
I still think that people that travel by train shouldnt be aloud to bring their cars in their rear pocket. So they can unpack them as soon as they leave the station.
17:38 - Lane Mathematics has one major risk associated with it; you can accidentally overly limit the routes cars can take. At this timestamp you linked the two incoming lanes from the highway to go right only, and the cars have no way to switch lanes in between. In this case the cars have to circle around a huge distance to get to the cargo terminal. In many of mistakes I made I accidentally destroyed busroutes, limited access to certain areas and created traffic jams due to cars being limited too much. Something you could go into in your next traffic fix using lane management :)
this! The cars coming on from the highway in this system actually have to go off the highway at the next exit, there's literally no other route for them to go
how do we know that doesn't happen 'IRL' what if it happens but there is a 'construction mist' that makes it all appear like its just normal construction :P
For the industrial zone the lane management isn't that good as you think ;) Because of the intersections are too close to each other, you cannot switch lanes to enter the industrial zone, so you have to move out again immediately.
Indeed, people comming in go through the cargo hub, straight into the next roundabout across the highway. People that are already in the industrial zone have to go around for ever without any escape!
Yup... which is exactly why all that traffic went through the recycle district, those other two intersections are only good for leaving the industrial area, and going to the train terminal now. It should be set up so that the right-most lane must go into the train terminal, and the left can either turn or go straight, then make the 4 lane road a 5 lane road. Fixed.
i've never heard of this game or this channel but you're such a lovable commentator i had to subscribe!! when you said welcome and thank you to new viewers.... had me like 🥰🥰🥰🥰 these kind of videos are so interesting!
I remember playing simcity many years ago. My solution to traffic was always "Oh theres a bunch of cars here, I better make it more lanes" After I maxed out the lanes I randomly plopped bus stations down. Then when that didn't work I started a new world and pretended I had enough fun with that town.
Watching this again since you linked it in your latest New Tealand video. By the gods, the mods you use really have improved in the last two years. Just the roundabout set up being a one-click thing removes so many clicks! :D
It still blows my mind that adding less lanes helps more! I’m on a spree of learning lane mathematics and traffic logic in order to fix my cities, but it’s hard work lol
17:39 Wouldn't this force everyone coming from the highway to take that bottom road and prevent anyone from within the district to enter that same bottom road (w/out having to enter onto the highway again)?
I find an extremely effective way to reduce traffic is to use TMPE to disallow Private traffic from driving to and from external industry areas, using Metro lines instead. I also encourage walking/cycling and the use of buses by tweaking speed limits to make public transport just way faster than private. Frees up ALOT of road space for Tourist, New Resident and truck traffic

6-lane roads fever now Strikes on the Roundabouts ....NOOOO!! :P Weird but useful with this "Lane Mathematics" if you put 3 lanes to exit and 3 to keep turning around. But I suspect the Lanes changing will make it a completely mess
Too many roundabouts, people got dizzy and are now driving in slow motion. some are just stopping on the side lane to get their senses back or simply follow the car in front mimicking its behavior. hence the traffic...
Nah, this city is fine. That one where every single junction replaced with a roundabout would cause this, though. I mean, this perfection: th-cam.com/video/TNWADcxlruQ/w-d-xo.html

That city is 50% roads... Must be American.
24:30 - everyone noticed left-most lane is literally ONLY for turning around, right?
Exactly why I'm looking at the comments :D
To be fair the arrow doesn't show up on the in-game road and he just missed it's there in the mod too. Not saying it didn't bother me either but it's an easy one to miss.
That's why I like wiggling my intersections with move it mod. Lanes must appear properly.
Too bad, @@deniz_dee, many cities in real life like to keep their highway lanes and signage as confusing as possible.
@@adamgray1753 lol tell me about it, we're often lucky to have functional traffic lights in my town even. And there are only four, on the national road. There are roundabout signs but no yield when approaching :p. Would've needed a serious biffa treatment if the place wasn't small enough to het away with it.
Biffa, @@deniz_dee, would be a millionaire by the end of the month coming to the States to fix our many critical traffic problems. Lol
What in the world, why am I enjoying this so much?
Biffa i think you made a little mistake at 17:28
The cars from the highway always have to bypass the cargo station, with the little two lane road around.
Vehicles: U-turns
Biffa: NO.
There needs to be an all powerful entity just like this man, who governs all traffic. That way whenever I yell out "Why isn't there a damn turn lane!?!?" it will maybe happen.
There no turn lane because someone doesn't want people to turn off more easily and avoid his booming pyramid scheme just down the street :P
TH-cam recommendations are strange. This game looks interesting, though.
Hope you enjoyed :-)
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines Definitely! I'd never heard of the game before, but I ended up buying it a few hours later 🤷🏼♂️
All the tricks, tips and fixes ultimately boil down to a single piece of wisdom: don't cross the streams!
Beregorn88 this is gold. #Ghostbusters
Same goes for public urinals!
@@vaandor1 That's a No, for sure.
TH-cam decided to dump a bunch of people onto this video out of nowhere.
I have no idea what this game even is. 😂
Loved his voice though it is so weirdly satisfying.
Thanks 😁👍
It's called Cities Skylines.
The detail of this game is insane
Should have randomly added a Roundabout in a field somewhere, just to mess with the viewers :p
:P
XD
Living in Atlanta has me salivating for this guy’s traffic management skills. Do you do IRL commissions?
when a city has more road surface than buildin area^^
The Philippine government should hire you to fix Manila's traffic
all personal in transportation office should buy this game and solve the problem here.
*T R U E*
Immediately, I saw that the various neighborhood "islands" needed several non-highway direct connections--which did get addressed after the pressing interchange issues. 👍 Did I pass the quiz? :) I tend to let the highways go around everything and then have six-lane arterial roads do the fast connections between city areas. That keeps traffic hovering at around 80%.
TH-cams Algorithm actually worked. I had never seen this series but love watching this game. Your idea of fixing peoples worlds is a really good fun one to watch. Whats even better is seeing theres 40 more episodes to watch.
17:30 - 18:00 They dont have room to lane change?
Just what I was thinking, there isn't another node in the middle where they can switch to go straight... he does seem to rush sometimes and overlook things like this.
They are just going to end up leaving right away again, go around in a circle and enter the industrial area again
But they can go on the two-lane road to exit.
3 years in the future
Biffa: your roads are all wonky
New York Mayor: "Ooohh"
Before watching Biffa fixes cities: Traffic? More lanes for you!
After watching Biffa fixes cities: Traffic? Less lanes for you!
Begone horky-borkyness with a sip of tea :)
:-)
Indeed, even in real life, more lanes just means more choices. If you have more choices you are more likely to make the wrong choice.
I'm still learning that, less is more in road management.
@@destynnee
But more important is lane management and ristricting choices.
I never thought a video about traffic would be so interesting.
Genuinely can’t stop watching these. Must’ve watched 20 in the last week
Nice :-)
:D
Something you could go into in your next traffic fix using lane management :)
this! The cars coming on from the highway in this system actually have to go off the highway at the next exit, there's literally no other route for them to go
Could you imagine living in this city with all these constant changes appearing and disapearing instantly! Freaky stuff!
how do we know that doesn't happen 'IRL' what if it happens but there is a 'construction mist' that makes it all appear like its just normal construction :P
For the industrial zone the lane management isn't that good as you think ;)
Because of the intersections are too close to each other, you cannot switch lanes to enter the industrial zone, so you have to move out again immediately.
Fixed.
At this point I don’t even play city skylines anymore I just watch your videos and that’s good enough for me
A Biffa vid with NO roundabout construction??? :O Also the person who submitted this city has an eye for beauty, it is really pleasing to look at!
aww thanks a lot :)
this guy sounds like an artist, a little bit there.... some tasty merging there.... yesss..... perfect
i've never heard of this game or this channel but you're such a lovable commentator i had to subscribe!!
when you said welcome and thank you to new viewers.... had me like 🥰🥰🥰🥰
these kind of videos are so interesting!
Thankyou 😁👍
Why is watching this so satisfying? Just watching traffic go from being clogged up, all the way through to flowing smoothly.
This makes me want to play the game, not to build a city but to actually just manage traffic throughput! Oh dear lord... xD
This is basically every game of Cities Skylines though
never knew i would be watching someone fix traffic and enjoying it so much
Nice :-)
I've never played Cities and I have no idea why I keep watching these.
Hahaha, same
As long as you enjoy them! :-)
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines sure do!
I remember playing simcity many years ago. My solution to traffic was always "Oh theres a bunch of cars here, I better make it more lanes"
After I maxed out the lanes I randomly plopped bus stations down. Then when that didn't work I started a new world and pretended I had enough fun with that town.
I'm glad TH-cam recommended this, now i want to play this game.
“What have you learned?” I learned the YT algo finally got one right! So glad this was recommended. I also learned “lane mathematics!” Good show!
Thanks! davidinark :-)
Watching this again since you linked it in your latest New Tealand video.
By the gods, the mods you use really have improved in the last two years. Just the roundabout set up being a one-click thing removes so many clicks! :D
Always fun to watch someone who knows what he's doing play these games.
This was surprisingly satisfying to watch
It still blows my mind that adding less lanes helps more! I’m on a spree of learning lane mathematics and traffic logic in order to fix my cities, but it’s hard work lol
17:39 Wouldn't this force everyone coming from the highway to take that bottom road and prevent anyone from within the district to enter that same bottom road (w/out having to enter onto the highway again)?
Yup unless they do lane switching they have to loop around
If only it was this easy to make changes in the real world.
I have never seen this game before, but I feel like my actual hometown needs you to fix it. Our infrastructure is a mess.
Biffa when to continue the university series?
I have no idea what this is, but it is so freaking soothing. You're like a Let's Play Bob Ross!
I spent 4 hours last night going between 20 and 85% traffic while doing lane mathmatics and setting up junction restrictions.
I don't even own the game, but there is something so cathartic to watching you fix these cities!
👍
Me driving these days now: this is a perfect place to place a roundabout.
Why am i here? I have no idea what this game is, have no idea who this guy is and already i love everything about this video and guy. Great positive attitude, very smart and dorky. And also engaging. I could watch this guy fix roads all day, and i intend to. I would love a long episode dedicated to making the most perfect road system ever. So long as it includes those lane mathematics.
Welcome and thanks 😁👍
I love how to fix traffic, you just made traffic drive the way it is supposed to haha
Why can't I stop watching these? I've never played this game on my life but I still watch and I don't know why.
7:05 that one driver was like "roads? Where we're going we don't need roads...oh wait yes we do jk" lol
This has been the best half an hour i have spent on TH-cam for a looong time. Never knew about this game, though i played the original Sim City in the 80s on Amiga, so i understood the concept. Now, i can't decide what i presses me most. The depth and thought underlying this game, or your skills with it.
This should be mandatory to play and graduate in, for city planners and infrastructural planners. :-)
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it :-)
What? You built no roundabouts? *WARNING: IMPOSTER BIFFA!*
I like how all these people are talking about how they've never heard of the game and that this popped up in their recommendations, but I found your channel by looking up fixes for my city's horrid traffic (my fix was to destroy the entire city and built it again ;v;)
:-)
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines Your great man, keep doing your thing!
And we appreciate your amazing content!
Thank you Mike Allain :-)
I have no idea why this was recommended to me but I ended up really enjoying the video and didn't skip past anything! Who would have thought it would be so interesting and intriguing to watch someone fix traffic, not me! Great video, keep up the amazing work!!
6-lane roads fever now Strikes on the Roundabouts ....NOOOO!! :P
Weird but useful with this "Lane Mathematics" if you put 3 lanes to exit and 3 to keep turning around. But I suspect the Lanes changing will make it a completely mess
I'm starting to think that's why my one city is stuck dead at like 5%. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Less is more I guess.
I was having pretty bad anxiety today & watching this has helped calm me down. So thank you.
Okay, like a lot of other people here, I've never played this game, but this was incredibly entertaining and I can't believe I watched all of it. I thought I'd get bored in the first few minutes but instead I watched a few minutes and then it was over
Great to hear, thanks 👍
Is it posible to take a Google map area and export and inport it in to this game ? And test out trafikk ?
Do you mean with roads and buildings? Or just the layout of the land? Many maps/regions have already been created, some better than others, that you can download from the Steam workshop... Even the layout of my home town in Sweden can be found (Sundsvall)...
When I a King of the World, this channel will be required watching for all my transportation mavens. Advancement in that bureau will be determined by how well their sims do. Subpar performance will be corrected by making them spend time trying to get a delivery lorry across town before the customer closes. Basically, the beatings will continue until performance improves.
....
I kind of want a traffic solver game now.
Just nothing but messed up traffic situations and you go through solving them like a puzzle.
Still waithing for a city without a roundabout challenge
This showed up in my recommendations not even sure what game this is but I’m sitting here watching it in its entirety because this man made it interesting!
Bro i Just saw 30 min of a fixxing trafic game that i never played
:-)
Hey Mr. Biffa, watching you fixing city traffic after another city traffic is some what kinda therapeutic! Thanx very much!
