Every time I see a video like this I don't understand it. I don't understand the way some people play and why they end up resorting to others to solve their own problems in a game that is about solving problems... It seems that neither one really wants to play the game. The fun of creating a city is just to create a city yourself and not resort to another to redo what you did wrong. It's like I'm playing chess and at some point saying: "Hey TH-cam friend, I can not win this game and I'm about to lose, this guy is really good and I need help to beat him."... Then comes the TH-cam friend, makes some moves and leaves the board to the point of checkmate. I return to the board, and in a couple of moves I achieves checkmate. Then I feel good about myself for winning... WTF!!!
Hey Biffa. A learned a lot from your videos (mostly traffic management), but this city under my control has reached a point, and the population is not growing whatever I'm doing. Can you please teak a look at it and help me fix if it's possible. steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1775981486
The next time I'm in a traffic jam that seems to clear up for no reason, I'm going to assume Biffa fixed something. I'll also keep an eye out for flying police cars.
Reduce the speed on roundabouts and wait a minute, lane mathematics is all well and good but traffic can't get on to a roundabout with cars flying around at 60+
Biffa: remember lane mathematics from previous episode? Also Biffa: *upgrade road before off ramp to 4 lane when he can downgrade the straight lane to 2 lane*
I don't think that's how the monorail is supposed to work... there are roads with the tracks already on them. You had anarchy on and just plopped track support poles in the driving lanes... Also, that's way too many stations in such a small area.
I like that you're doing lane REDUCTIONS on this map, rather than just bumping up lane count before exits and after on ramps. Reducing lanes can be just as effective (in this game) for managing traffic. Have you seen a mod that can provide a traffic counter for a selected road segment? It would be nice to know things like "cars per day" or "cars per week" similar to what we get for metro stations. Great video! *sip o' tea*
With that turbine interchange, I always replace where there's two off ramps merging with a two lane highway to mitigate that jam up. Then I usually do two lane and Two lane into 4 lane.
I've discovered you some times ago with your more recent traffic fixes and lane mathematics has become so natural to me when I play C:S that when I watch your older fixes and see that "reverse" lane mathematics you used to do it feels so strange and counter intuitive. Really amazing how it helps and how much it's used around my country irl but it feels so weird to use in that game.
You can't walk / cycle between those little pods since they are all connected via highways. Pedestrian paths and cycle ways will help out that traffic a lot too.
But Flabaliki would spend his budget decorating, Sam would complain about the bad city planning and Biffa would drop in a bunch of roundabouts and call it time for tea.
Thanks to you and your tips, my glorious city of "FirstTry" (yeah, I suck at naming things) recovered from 23% of traffic flow to now 87%. It just took a grand total of 6 roundabouts, some traffic managing, one "bypass" street for the farmers to the cargo station, and two hours full of cursing and fiddling around. I finally figured out how to raise streets above ground level, so I even got those fancy pedestrian crossings above the streets ;) Keep up the good work! I enjoy every video of you and I "blame" you that I bought this game (and all the hours of fun I had with it so far.)

Hi biffa i have a trick for you! If you have TM open and select the signs (give way and stuff) you can hold L Shift and click on a road. It Will do all give way stuff you are doing from one junction to another (on the road you click on) saves a lot of clicking and sipping tea!
Have a two-lane road going directly into the doors of cargo stations, rather a one way road that runs parallel. It's much faster, the trucks do not need to slow down at all to enter and exit the cargo station, and it connects up just fine. It's a little finicky placing it in exactly the right spot so that the trucks can drive in a perfectly straight line, but once you got it your cargo station traffic will move much much much faster
its really like seeing people building knots in arterys and wondering why the traffic doesnt flow....i highly advise some of these people to watch open ttd tutorials just to learn how various junction styles work
Just wanted to share with you my day. No idea why TH-cam showed me your video but I watched it, then I watched over 20 more whilst working throughout the day... never been so satisfied seeing a city fix like this one biffa! i like you've put allot of time and effort to fix it! please we want a new series where you build a city( do one as SeniacTwo) thank you!
In this episode, Biffa, experiences, the horrors, the HORRORS, that residents of the cities he's sent experience. When he levels the roads and the highways without warning. Maybe, the game should have tools to shut down roads fur renovations, so we won't have such sacrifices. Like the brave police officer who is currently somewhere, beyond the clouds, in low orbit.
Hey, Biffa. Love your videos. I realized one thing you could do for the cargo terminal feeder fix you did that would reduce the impact of your changes. You could use the traffic manager to make the outside lane of that original 6-lane road a "dedicated" one. It's similar to how highway off-ramps get a run-off lane, so that thru-traffic ignores that outside lane and keeps on going past. I don't know if that's an optimal solution or not, but it seemed like this was a good use case for that, especially since the city did not have infinite money active.
I have 130k city, i don't use mods for traffic, i don't have public transport (middle of remaking it) and my traffic still flows at 85%. Use roundabouts on major roads and have plenty of exits(shortcuts) from inner city to highways. Make industrial zones have their own place with highway connection, so they don't interfere with civil traffic.
just ez to get 85+ like u, just in case every map he take are bad player ... 10min to finish his city 'llooll'! 240k for me and still 90% but in bigmap
I play on console and traffic manager is not an option but my traffic is constantly above 83% and more. I've had many completed cities with traffic flow at 85% or more even. It definitely can be done without traffic mod but it takes alot of playing time and also TH-cam is full of how to videos of traffic management including one's without traffic mod. Obviously traffic mod makes it alot easier and if I had the choice to have it I probably would use it just for the fact of that is the only way you can make cars use just certain lanes without manipulating the roads. Other than that with the right planning traffic management can be done without traffic mod. It does take alot of playing time and watching videos to get good with traffic without mods.
@@nanfredman1991 spreading the city out with lots of highway excess with a good amount of on and off ramps spread out just right with a smooth connections that doesn't interrupt traffic. I also modify my roundabouts which is a must for continue traffic flow when you don't have the traffic president mod. Modifying roundabouts can be done on your own. I also rarely have any 4 way intersections and if I do I have a modified roundabout to keep traffic flowing. I also try and keep my regular road connections spread out enough so to keep traffic flowing.
@16:21 I had the same issue with that interchange, but a quick fix makes it very viable, I added two-lane only too the connecting roads as the two lanes into one bottleneck was then eliminated. then doing the usual four-lane upgrade and lane managing the exits into separate lanes giving two for the thru traffic. I also downgraded the three-lane crossover points to two lanes, flows beautifully now.
1:01 using this map would make it a little easier to explain this one I think, the road that comes from the south seen from this perspective could use a additional change. The T-crossing in there may need to change to a 4-way crossing. This way you could use the new road to connect to the city block on the east side of that highway as well. It would give a additional way for the people that wish to go there or leave from there. I notice you added only slip lanes to that area if I payed well enough attention (sorry, had surgery yesterday and still rather fuzzy before my eyes, haha) 15:55 That roundabout type (steam workshop item) is indeed a bit odd. Yes it will need a update to make it work a lot better. But aside from that it really isn't the worst I see on the steam workshop by far, this one is actually one of the better ones even but far from perfect.
The turbine interchange works really well, if you set up all lanes. So 1+1+2=2+2=4 (the ones going roud are one lane, they merge into two lanes and those two lanes merge with two lanes of straight traffic). If you leave the merge as one lane, you get problems. - Edit: a minute later you did exactly that.
Biffa, i kinda wish you'd numbered your traffic fixes. Im about a million hours into watching them and am still not sure which ones ive seen 3 times already or which ones i haven't
I love your content, it s really satisfiing to see the traffic disappear. I would lave to do optimizing puzzles like this as well, Im not playing this game myself but really like the fixing stuf! Keep doing it!
People should try to build their home towns, or a section of it, and see how the traffic is and send it in to see how it could be better... then send it into city hall lol.
A pattern I am seeing is making 3 ways in and out of an area. One of those ways should be a main artery, and another that can handle higher flow too. The turbine interchanges need to have 2 lanes joining the main roads to keep flowing too.
Interesting thing found in testing. Your rail depot sponges? Dont actually increase the flow/buffer traffic as much as one thinks. Turns out what it does is it increases road distance and that seems to slow demand. Having side road is good though for as you show, keeping them out of main traffic, but what I recommend instead of sponge? more depots! Spread out them demands so it doesnt back up in addition to a parallel siding!
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines Indeed! But I did some checking, and having it snake actually seems to reduce demand because the road is longer. I run a side road parallel, separate from main industrial road too, but use a few terminals now. It is like how traffic will shortcut through a city if it is quicker than going up onto the highway. Trucks will export by city if rail connection is further. It also can spread out trains as city grows so they dont back up at one terminal. Just a suggestion for perhaps something different to try if you get a city fix where terminal backs up and no space to isolate nicely. See where terminal traffic is coming from, perhaps can split it up. Less snake also means more will use terminals. So it reduces truck exports as well as long distance import hauling. Latest city of mine for example has six to service a large scale central industrial complex. Is something to behold seeing all of the trains zipping about and no jamming up.
Bahaha, downloaded a map that asked for Biffa to fix it. Thought I'd have a go at it. Meanwhile, the traffic situation went down all the way to 3%... there's traffic everywhere! lol May end up changing the whole darned city lol
The point of the toll booths is to make money from the cargo going through, moving the cargo station elsewhere to bypass the toll booths entirely ignore why the area was setup that way, you should have at least added another toll booth just for that new area. (around 19:30)
Its always amazing how a few roundabouts fix up traffic so much! I dont know how it is in other countries, but there really aren't too many roundabouts in America. Sure seems it would fix up a lot of the terrible highway traffic!
in real life roundabouts are insidious. they must be carefully planned considering the right alternation between high-traffic roads to avoid damage! In my city there was a big intersection surmounted by a huge overpass that allowed to bypass the intersection for those who went straight and everything worked well. Recently it was demolished for old age and replaced by a huge roundabout ... now it takes an hour to cross it. In another area, building a roundabout proved to be the holy grail of traffic-solving
Every time you mention road mathematics it makes me think of a song that is crying out to have a "road mathematics" version of it made. It's Cherry Ghost - mathematics. Listen to it, you'll see what I mean.
I was watching a video of yours with a friend someday. When we finished it he asked me: Hey dude, what's a sipotee? And I'm like: Bro. Ya serious? He walked into the distance and we never met after that.
There's a tiny bit of two-way six-lane road under the track at 24:28 that should be changed to four-lane. The extra intersection between four- and six-lane roads is slowing them down again.
Yah! Have you finally squashed your 'despawning' beef? Congrats Biffa!? (also, your lane mathematics needs some work at 24:39, you got a 6-lane out of the round-a-bout into a 4-lane :D)
Despawning beef? I just got some comments about using despawning, but the TM:PE settings are save dependant, so they are set how the save owner had them set...but I much prefer the challenge of fixing with no despawning...using car despawning is far too easy to fix (no comments on other city fixing channels) ;-)
22:10 You did the "sponge" the wrong way around. You want to have the long part for the incomming traffic because the entrance to the terminal is what slows things down, not the exit to the roundabout.
I love your videos not only because of how fantastic they are but your voice is very soothing and pleasant to listen to as well. TH-camrs with annoying voices no matter how great the gameplay may be is ALWAYS a deal breaker. You however brilliantly combine the best of both worlds into Triple a video viewing. I tip my hat to you good Sir. I would recommend the Queen Knighting you. =)
Biffa fixes roundabouts. builds a few roundabouts, and throws in a side road so that he didn't just build a roundabout where a straight road was a better choice. :) The cargo train station needs access, short and not through other traffic to the industrial area, not on the main industrial road, but not as isolated as you did it... now you have all the industry traffic traveling farther to export/import. Biggest problem with so many of these cities, is the isolating of each district from the others, and forcing all the traffic onto the freeway system, causing choke points that will never handle the growth of the city. Traffic is fixed for now, but as this city grows, the lack of connections between districts will choke the roundabouts and freeways again. Want to easily solve traffic, build pedestrian paths, and bike lanes...and keep the pedestrians from crossing busy roads at grade, as the game gives priority to pedestrians crossing the roads.
I really enjoy when you start to fix a problem then one min later you comment "that you shouldn't do like this" and change what you've just changed! LOL! (12:25: Changing 3 lanes to 4 lanes, 13:42; changing 4 lanes into 3 lanes) HAHA!!!

Biffa, congratulations on creating the most cathartic series of videos on TH-cam, love these!
Thank you Steve Matson :-)
I need you to fix my city: São Paulo
I have 130k city, i don't use mods for traffic, i don't have public transport (middle of remaking it) and my traffic still flows at 85%. Use roundabouts on major roads and have plenty of exits(shortcuts) from inner city to highways. Make industrial zones have their own place with highway connection, so they don't interfere with civil traffic.
just ez to get 85+ like u, just in case every map he take are bad player ... 10min to finish his city 'llooll'! 240k for me and still 90% but in bigmap
Me too I never got below 80% cuz of biffa ... It was 60% but I fixed it and got it to 84% ... And it felt awesome seeing the traffic fixed
The Blues Brothers have taken over Biffa’s police car 😂
Biffa just got a traffic-gasm in this one! ^^
Didn’t we all!
I've learned two things watching this channel:
1. Roundabouts are great.
2. Citiies Skylines vehicle AI is horribly dumb.
The number one tip should be: "Get the traffic mod". Without that the game is close to useless.
*cough* t4rget's design and manage *cough*
@@stanplutnicki7620 Seems like one needs to spread the city out a bit w/o the mod.
@@nanfredman1991 no need to spread the city, just spread the off ramp to different location and give as many access to that location as possible.
Neverending tailbacks that inflict regret: it's just Tuesday and my normal commute.
Lol 🤣
@16:21 I had the same issue with that interchange, but a quick fix makes it very viable, I added two-lane only too the connecting roads as the two lanes into one bottleneck was then eliminated.
then doing the usual four-lane upgrade and lane managing the exits into separate lanes giving two for the thru traffic.
I also downgraded the three-lane crossover points to two lanes, flows beautifully now.
I just had to like, the first 3 minutes were glorious with the crazy flyng police car!
I notice you added only slip lanes to that area if I payed well enough attention (sorry, had surgery yesterday and still rather fuzzy before my eyes, haha)
15:55 That roundabout type (steam workshop item) is indeed a bit odd. Yes it will need a update to make it work a lot better. But aside from that it really isn't the worst I see on the steam workshop by far, this one is actually one of the better ones even but far from perfect.
These tailbacks look like our REAL traffic here. Well done, Cities Skylines :D
Perfect way to end the school day- feeling smug about how good my traffic is 🤪😏
:-)
Its actually quite a nice city layout
It takes minutes to sleep to one of your videos. I love them becaue i have problems to sleep but with a video from you i can sleep really good.
20:00 That's a mighty fine rectangleabout you have there.
👍
20:10 looks like your new roundabout has to potty LUL
Biffa, i kinda wish you'd numbered your traffic fixes. Im about a million hours into watching them and am still not sure which ones ive seen 3 times already or which ones i haven't
Playlist on my channel 😉
I love your content, it s really satisfiing to see the traffic disappear.
I would lave to do optimizing puzzles like this as well, Im not playing this game myself but really like the fixing stuf!
Keep doing it!
A thing that I learn from here (and like every German city) is that less lanes are often more.
The idea is to keep any cargo trucks off the main road or highway so they don't clog up the traffic :-)
Hopefully, I will, one day, build a city that actually makes money long enough to gave Biffa-fixing level traffic problems. ;-)
The point of the toll booths is to make money from the cargo going through, moving the cargo station elsewhere to bypass the toll booths entirely ignore why the area was setup that way, you should have at least added another toll booth just for that new area. (around 19:30)
The city owner can easily do that 😀
Hey Biffa!! Thanks for your videos - I went out and started playing thanks to how exciting you have made this game!!
You're welcome :-)
We need an “Autosave, sip of Tea” t-shirt 😂
Most people in America hate roundabouts
Every time you mention road mathematics it makes me think of a song that is crying out to have a "road mathematics" version of it made. It's Cherry Ghost - mathematics. Listen to it, you'll see what I mean.
Biffa: delete road, Police: It's a call for ANARCHY!!!
Lol :-)
I was watching a video of yours with a friend someday. When we finished it he asked me: Hey dude, what's a sipotee? And I'm like: Bro. Ya serious?
He walked into the distance and we never met after that.
Lol 🤣
There's a tiny bit of two-way six-lane road under the track at 24:28 that should be changed to four-lane. The extra intersection between four- and six-lane roads is slowing them down again.
The money/budget tip... The scenarios have become much easier... I feel so naughty... :p
i have issues like that constantly. its weird glitches like this that make the game so much more interesting.
🎶Never ending tailbacks! Ahh ah ahh ahh ah ahh ahh ah ahh!🎶
A big thumbs up from me, well done fixing the traffic.
:-)
You just increased the speed on a small bit of the cargo road so they are breaking and driving faster!!!
Yeah, the gameplay doesn't really factor in the cost of brake maintenance. I used to load semi-trucks and their brakes had to be replaced a lot.
Many thanks 😀
When one Cargo station is that full with trucks, you maybe need another one directly at the industy areas
Sadly the trucks will still always choose the nearest one...!
Biffa fixes roundabouts. builds a few roundabouts, and throws in a side road so that he didn't just build a roundabout where a straight road was a better choice. :)
The cargo train station needs access, short and not through other traffic to the industrial area, not on the main industrial road, but not as isolated as you did it... now you have all the industry traffic traveling farther to export/import.
No-one's perfect ;-)
Hahahaha that police car flying around 😂😂😂😂 rofl! Why is it doing that? 🤣
Kind of surprised there was no before and after montage; not really complaining tho, those take a bit 👀
*intensely staring at money slowly going down while dude fixes roads*
