Useful comparison. Most coaches frown upon early extension, but you’ve shown examples of some pro golfer’s who naturally incorporate some of it into their swings! Interesting. Thanks for the video.

Thanks Rohit - most pros follow what the others do. Most pros struggle to hit the ball solid and consistently. Because they don’t know how to fix their swings or what to really work on.
Most of them are on TH-cam

All these great players always end up at pretty much the same place on the down swing. I think working on your own swing, not someone else's is probably prudent. I see guys all over the place at the top, high, low laid off, steep shallow, ball back/forward, weak/strong etc...but somehow they're similar before contact. Different body types, flexibility creates different movements.

That lower body movement in your swing is smooth

It's crazy when you consider the number of "how to shallow the Golf club" videos that there aren't more just suggesting to shallow the swing out, especially since in my view there's more timing and athleticism involved in shallowing the club, something most amateurs don't have, never mind the time to practice.
Sure, there's disadvantages to a shallower swing, but coming way over the top and having an early extension aren't two of them.

Hi Craig, a question regarding shallowing the club. Instead of shallowing the club when starting the downswing, why not just have a flat backswing in the first place, achieves the same thing or not?

Yes Terry that’s a option. That’s why I put together the Deep to Shallow swing style for club golfer’s on WorldClassGolf.com it’s definitely easier for lots of people out there.

Seems to me that the shoulder steepness at the top is dependent upon the angle of the spine at the top of the backswing. I’d also say shorter players will have less steepness on average at the top. To give some proof of this theory consider a pro that is not all that tall swinging a driver - the shoulders won’t be all that steep. Look at Ricky Fowler’s (spell it right?) swing earlier in this video. And at 9:12 in the video I think Rory McIlroy is shown (red shirt) and at the top (9:12 point in the video) and he has his right elbow high (which is how I swing) BUT his shoulders are NOT very steep at the top. And I dare say it is because he’s a shortish (not tall) person, and also he’s got the driver in hand - the flattest swinging club in the bag. BUT THAT SAID look at how steep he gets coming through the hitting area. (Tall guys with a driver in hand set up at the angle a short guy sets up with a 3 wood.)

The driver swing shoulder plane is flatter at the top. Tour average 29-35
People with flatter or lower arm swings at the top can tend be on the lower side of the average.
It’s about averages understanding that is what’s important. To give people a understanding of where the best players on average are.
Some short players swing with extremely steep shoulders like Colin Morikowa others tall players like Matt Kuchar at 6,4 with flatter shoulders.
The iron swing is 39-45 average.
This is evidence based averages that have been tested through bio mechanics. After all these years of Instruction and working with bio mechanics I’ve learnt one thing that is important which I shouldn’t done many years ago! - Be careful of opinions because everybody has one

I add that there are (I am told) 2 kinds of swingers (and I’d guess hybrids of the two); (1) rotating or rotational swingers, and (2) hands and arms swingers. I would guess the hands and arms dominant guys tend to be flatter shouldered at the top, and the rotation dominant guys tend to be steeper at the top. I am not a rotational guy. I have tried to do that but though it feels powerful I tend to be wild swinging that way. I have strongish arms so I go with that. Like Rory McIlroy I am not too steep at the top though I get my right elbow and shoulder up good and high at the top, and I maintain spine angle pretty good. But I DO get steep shoulders coming through the hitting area.

But if one position is easier to get to than another, which do you choose?
