He lives to make war, and he tries to compliment Sturnn by thanking his regiment for all of their death. All he knew was war. All he will know is war. Sturnn, on the contrary, he is just a man... He saw his soldiers die for an endless war. He heard all of that "FOR THE EMPEROR" and "KILL THE ENNEMY" crap over and over again... Now he genuily cares about his men, and about the Guard. People keep remembering the Spaces Marines as gigantic heroes of the Empire. They forget that while Sturnn was standing on that mountain, giving a epic hidden "fuck you" to Varnus, dozens of thousands of guardsmen must have already died, on far planets, fighting traitors or xenos, with fear in their hearth and weapon in their hand... We mock the Guard. We say they are useless, they carry a flashlight and are cowards, meat for tyrannids and future cultists for Chaos... They are, in fact, the paladins of Humanity. Anonymous knights in sour armor. They will never be great. Most of them will die horribly in a gruesome way, being tortured, eaten, executed for treason or just finished by hunger and sickness... But as Sturnn say : "We die... *standing*"

All I meant is that Varnus is a badass chaplain who is so devoted to the Emperor that sometimes, if you listen to his quotes, he almost look like he is going to cry of rage. TomZanovich Yeah -_- i know this wargears from dow 2- one holy banner of the blood ravens was lost on kronus when enemies attacked on ravens stronghold and was fired orbital bombardment on this stronghold= that never happened. Castellum Incoruptus was never destroyed. And for interest look to wiki- winter assault canon ending ;) AND when the guard falls Space marines come to the battlefield. I actually like the Blood Ravens because knowledge is power guard it well. And i don't mock the guard are you kidding me ?? They are Hammer of the Emperor, Protectors of millions worlds!!!
@HalfTangible Actually [40k lore nitpick] the Imperial Guard does not have any spaceships of their own. These duties were deliberately separated into the Imperial Navy. The idea being that, should a large section of either turn traitor, they will be unable to pose a threat to the Imperium at large. The Traitor Guard would be unable of moving from world to world, while the Navy could not invade a world - they could destroy it, yes, but you need supplies too.
Also it was siad in the ig story thing, that after completing thier mission in lorn V (the titan recovery), Alaxanders force was given the mission to chase down TAldeer
The Guardsman are the Imperium's shield, the Astartes are the Angels of Death. One Protects the other Avenges. Two missions one purpose, at least that's how I see it.
as a space marine player i admire the gaurds for their bravery and when playing alongside gaurd i send my terminators up front to catch most of the fire

This is the only game where Ultramarines were respectable chapter, even after Matt ruined it. I mean the Chaplain show honor to Imperial Guardsmen who died protecting the Titan. Even against the unstoppable horror, Imperial Guards will hold the line with high death.
The strategy to use the guard on the tabletop isnt all that different from the DoW games actually. If close combat troops get in, your guards are toast 9 out of 10 times. You keep your distance you can hammer anything to bloody bits with tanks and artillery, specially vs races with lots of numbers like Orks and Tyranids. Blew my mind when GW actually made a model of the Baneblade, that thing is the physical incarnation of the term overkill.
In the 40k-verse humans come in all shapes and sizes; compare a Catachan model to a Marine model. Chappy's from a high grav world, which produces shorter and stockier humans (up to the point that the human genome goes 'fuck it!' and you get big-ass Ogryns), while the General's from a low grav world, which has the opposite effect. He's actually really wispy under his uniform, which is really baggy; as we all know uniforms come in too sizes; too big and too small.
The IG on Tartarus weren't actually IG. The troops on Tartarus were PDF (Planetary Defence Force)and generally considered to be inferior to Imperial Guard in terms of training, experence and equipment. Even then, among the guard, some units will be better than others. Cadians like Sturn's troops will be practically bred to fight, where as the ones on Tartarus may have never seen a real war in centuries

Imperial Guard is on pursued of Taldeer, but it was never stated why. When Alexander beats the Eldar there is an info that he send her alive (drugged and in a straight jacket) to Inqusition. My bet was that chase her not becouse she screw over Sturnn (no panzy eldar git can screw da best general in Dawn of War series (well maybe on par with Vance Fuckmothering Stubbs that is)!), but becouse she had the information on the location of Necron Tomb worlds.
Raven Strategist I know they do that, I played the howl series (duh). But finishing the game with other races shows realy why they were realy there. And in Imperial Guard campaign we know that Inqusition had some busines with Taldeer (and not with Imperium in general, which she should if she realy did messed up Cadian 412th on Lorn V, WHICH SHE DID NOT!). This is how also we know that Gorgutz killed Lord Crull and got his skull - by finishing the game as Chaos.
Ollanius Pius is a symbol of the Imperial Guard. In fact he shouldn't have been named. He should have been known as the Unknown Guardsman, who died saving the Emperor from certain death, because the symbolism would have been even greater. Guardsmens die as unknown heroes, in unsung war, in unsung battles, on unsung planets. They die for the Imperium, yet they aren't truly recognized as heroes, unlike the Astartes. The guardsmen's are the badass everyday human fighting for mankind, but just because they aren't genetically enhanced super soldiers, just because they are physically weaker than the rest, they aren't considered as heroes. Its disgusting. Guardsmens are the ones keeping the line; Remove the IG and the Marines will hold for what, 2 months? People's should start giving the Guards the credits they deserve.
the ender destruction nah, that would detract from the story of ollanius pius. It’s much better that that he was just some guy with balls bigger than all the smurfs put together, that singlehandedly defied the arch traitor and ensured the emperors victory.

True WA canonical ending stated below: Gorgutz killed Crull and possesses Crull's skull until Elliphas retrieves it in DC, but Gorgutz was forced to retreat and leave Lorn V by the guardsmen, however Gorgutz was unable to reach the Titan as Taldeer arrived at the crash site first. Taldeer escapes from Lorn V to continue her mission to stymie the awakening Necrons, much to the surprise of the Imperial Guard, who send General Lucas Alexander to question her involvement in the Lorn V conflict, thus hunting her to Kronus. According to the book "Dawn of War: Tempest", Captain Gabriel Angelos arrives at Lorn V to find that the Imperial Guard were victorious and had begun to repair the Titan Dominatus. Therefore a combo win for both the Imperial of Man & Craft World of Elder!!

Inquisitor_Wulf Apparently in the book “Dawn if War: Tempest” The guard successfully retrieves and repairs the titan. So the this ending is most likely the cannon one and the eldar just escaped off screen.
They're not the best or the strongest, but they've never given less than 100% when push comes to shove, and they fight and defeat the same chaos that the Space Marines do - not as super soldiers, but as ordinary humans who believe in what they fight for.

He looked at the feather thinking ''Maybe I'll see him again''. He exhaled and was no more.
Also, space marines were originally normal people... usually criminals. The toughest kind of men, only they can survive the enhancements and hellish training.
It's so... cathartic...or...pleasing, to see an Ultramarine--a chaplain, no less--humble himself before an ordinary human. I guess there actually was something to the blueberries, before they became mary sues.

I remember getting to the end of the IG campaign and when it said Mission Success I said "It was, but at what cost?" I swear the way our guy talks and the music playing makes this sound more like a Phyric Victory, maybe in the end that's what it really was

Frankly thanks to research I've done on the Lexicon and what I have seen of General Sturnn in Winter Assault he is one of the main officers in the Imperium I respect the most

Imperial Guard is on pursued of Taldeer, but it was never stated why. When Alexander beats the Eldar there is an info that he send her alive (drugged and in a straight jacket) to Inqusition. My bet was that chase her not becouse she screw over Sturnn (no panzy eldar git can screw da best general in Dawn of War series (well maybe on par with Vance Fuckmothering Stubbs that is)!), but becouse she had the information on the location of Necron Tomb worlds.

I know they do that, I played the howl series (duh). But finishing the game with other races shows realy why they were realy there. And in Imperial Guard campaign we know that Inqusition had some busines with Taldeer (and not with Imperium in general, which she should if she realy did messed up Cadian 412th on Lorn V, WHICH SHE DID NOT!). This is how also we know that Gorgutz killed Lord Crull and got his skull - by finishing the game as Chaos.

Ollanius Pius is a symbol of the Imperial Guard. In fact he shouldn't have been named. He should have been known as the Unknown Guardsman, who died saving the Emperor from certain death, because the symbolism would have been even greater.
Guardsmens die as unknown heroes, in unsung war, in unsung battles, on unsung planets. They die for the Imperium, yet they aren't truly recognized as heroes, unlike the Astartes. The guardsmen's are the badass everyday human fighting for mankind, but just because they aren't genetically enhanced super soldiers, just because they are physically weaker than the rest, they aren't considered as heroes. Its disgusting. Guardsmens are the ones keeping the line; Remove the IG and the Marines will hold for what, 2 months? People's should start giving the Guards the credits they deserve.
I can only hope we see more moments like these recognized among the Guard.

And if USA, UK, Russia and China lost, this world would be fucking doomed. According to the book "Dawn of War: Tempest", Captain Gabriel Angelos arrives at Lorn V to find that the Imperial Guard were victorious and had begun to repair the Titan Dominatus.
Therefore a combo win for both the Imperial of Man & Craft World of Elder!!

Inquisitor_Wulf Apparently in the book “Dawn if War: Tempest” The guard successfully retrieves and repairs the titan. So the this ending is most likely the cannon one and the eldar just escaped off screen.
They're not the best or the strongest, but they've never given less than 100% when push comes to shove, and they fight and defeat the same chaos that the Space Marines do - not as super soldiers, but as ordinary humans who believe in what they fight for.

Also, space marines were originally normal people... usually criminals. The toughest kind of men, only they can survive the enhancements and hellish training.
It's so... cathartic...or...pleasing, to see an Ultramarine--a chaplain, no less--humble himself before an ordinary human.
I guess there actually was something to the blueberries, before they became mary sues.
I mean Ultramarines are supposed to be fine with working with normal humans since they literally run an empire themselves.

@@GlitchTechV1 The vast majority of Marines still hold to the Imperial Truth. That said, they're not the dogmatic atheists of 30k. Many Chapters, Ultramarines included, do not believe the Emperor to be a God, but still treat with him with religious fervor.

They would win by sheer numbers, Imperial Guards are also easier to muster in great numbers, while Spaces Marines just can't.
The SM would literally run out of ammo.

The planet broke before the Guard
This is the true ending in my head. Such a powerful conclusion to the story. It was incredibly satisfying to beat the campaign.
"Barring my space marines, I couldn't have asked for better".
And they wonder why nobody likes ultramarines.
