Dude!! This game was a HUGE part of my childhood. Brought back such awesome memories. You have no idea what watching this has done for me, dude. Can't say thank you enough...
TheMano03 these kind of replies are the ones I do this for. You're welcome. I know the feeling. You should check out my channel (and especially my playlists) for games you forgot about, like maybe the other Commander Keen games!
I was 5 years old and we lived on a farm in the middle of nowhere.. one day my dad comes home with a computer.. AND THIS GAME.... this was my life for the next few years lol
That's awesome. My dad grew up on a farm in rural Canada and I played this as a kid. I can imagine u rushing back after chores to boot up the computer. Those were the good ol days, even if it was boring on the farm.
FUN FACT!!! The Commander Keen has the "Standard Galactic Alphabet" that's actually the words in the Enchanting Table from Minecraft 'coz Nocth was a fan so he added it.
I remember playing this game with my dad when i was 5 or 6 years old. He passed away a month ago and watching this brings back such amazing memories. Thanks.
My little sister loved this game and used to play everyday in our old 486 PC (It was early 90's and we also used to argue about who uses the PC first... I used to play games like Stunts or Prince meanwhile she loves to play Commander Keen) Unfortunately she passed away in 2005 due to unexpected heart failure. Years later finally found a copy of Commander Keen 4 in order to keep my sister's memories. If one day have my own children perhaps they would play it !
Believe it or not, i learnt my first sentences in English playing this game when i was 5 ish. I had to look for every single word in a dictionary. I'm 28 now, i am spanish and had to emigrate to the UK. Thanks videogames XD
Wow the music is amazing. I used to play this at my friend's house when we were 7 or 8. Only played the first couple of levels as we really had no idea what we were doing. Brilliant, brings back memories from 25 years ago. My friend walked into a lamp post.
This is the first video game I ever played in my life. I was 6 back then. The other day I downloaded and played it again after more than 15 years and discovered it is still as enjoyable as in the first day 🤩
Commander Keen 4 n' Prince of Persia 1989 were the 1st 2 games I ever played when I was a kid and until this day I still believe these games are some of the best games ever made.
I haven't seen this game since I was a kid! I used to play it all the time! This means so much to me! Thank you for posting this. It has made my heart so happy. I actually watch it as I fall asleep, it brings the comfort of memories of a simpler happy time.
Man, I actually forgot that this game even existed before hearing about it on Bethesda conference. Just hearing the music and the sound effects brought me way back when I played this game at my cousins house in the 90s. Very nostalgic!
I FU**ING FINALLY FOUND THIS GAME! Dude! All I remembered was the Pogo Stick and the Ice Level, but this game brings back such good memories! Thanks for the upload! =)
I remember buying this game from radio shack with my dad for 5 bucks when I was a kid. I Played every morning before I left for school ... GREAT MEMORIES, Thank You 💯💪🏾
Even though we're past all these technological disadvantages and we're able to process a whole lot more gameplay and graphics wise, we can't seem to get a better game nowadays than we did nearly 30 years ago. That's pretty impressive I gotta say.
As a kid I called this game King Quatro, and as an adult that made it so hard to find the game.... Ah, the memories. I loved the disappearing city of Miragia
this is just relaxing to watch or listen to in the background, brings back memories of playing it after returning from the beach as a child on a Saturday afternoon
Damn blast from the past, I'll have to re-install DosBox now hahaha, and I love the fact that it's a complete playthrough, and not a 'speedrun'. Nice playin' !
oh man this game was so hard when i was a kid. I could never beat it. That big lousy fish at the end really scared the crap outta me!! So glad you're playing these ty
Part of my childhood !!! This game is so underrated, but the facts where, the gameplay was nice and the graphics where so cool back then. Man thanks for uploading it.
Played this a lot as a child. Addictive game because it was just challenging enough without ever having a part that you just got completely stuck on. Never in a million years would have figured out how to get to the secret pyramid. Wouldn't have played this in over 20 years, thanks for the memories.
this was one of my favourite games as a kid. this, Agent Sam, Bioshock, Duke Nukem 2D and Cosmo and that one with the kid in the haunted house with the slingshot. God so much nostalgia. thank you so much for this
Damn I never found those free lives at the start in the border village! Mind blown. Just got this game yesterday on a dosbox emulator. Nostalgic bliss.
One of the first games I've ever played (besides Lemmings). Back in the days on an old 386 with 33MHz or something with my parents :D The PC didn't even have a soundcard, so the game only played sounds from the PC speaker and I never knew the game also had some catchy music :D
A fantastic memory of my sister and I playing computer games in the mid 90s. Dad was/is a computer science major, so anything "tech" since 1996, we had in our home. Even as poor as we were. Dad knew the value of having technology in our home. I am 33 yrs old and One of my first tech memories is sitting with my sister in her bedroom playing Commander Keen, Lemmings, or Doom while listening to Cranberries, Alanis morissette, or stone temple pilots on the local Oklahoma "grunge rock" radio station. That shit was golden.
Many thanks for your upload, arouse many good memories - direct home from school with classmates, down in the basement and handing out joystick right and left .. Even parents had to give a helping hand, floppy disks were not always the easiest to understand back then. Tomorrow I'll definitely get it on Steam! So cool to see this again.
This brings back memories as a small kid the first 2 games i played thanks to my older brothers having it installed on our computer was the good old age of empires and keen 4 spend hours and hours on this game
the more levels you play, the more you get used to id's style of hiding secrets. this one can be noticed because of the odd gap in the ceilling (it looks different from every other edge in this room) and the fact that every first level from keen 4 - 6 have hidden extra lives
I've been looking for this game for years! I used to play it as a kid, a lot, but I couldn't remember its name. Watching the video I still could remember where all the objects were, and it's been around 25 years... Omg I'm so happy to have found it again...
Damn that whole trick with a certain number of inches making one foot in the pyramid of he Moon. XD And in this pyramid, if make him wait while above a moon drawing, instead of reading a book as usual he will "moon" you. ^^'
And Commander Keen (Billy Blaze) has been named after his grandfather BJ Blazkowicz (Wolfenstein 3D). In the new Wolfenstein: Youngblood (2019) game you play as one of BJ's and Anja's daughters (they're twins). Could one be Keen's mom?
Hey there! Just got this video suggested and ... well .. childhood memories of my dad an me spending afternoons together playing this game. Hey Allied Winter, Your reply really touched my heart. This is what I'm all doing it for... recording the old games and putting them on here for you to enjoy. I was very confused what was wrong with them when I played it as a child😆

I came here to write this same comment lol
You guys are far too kind!
One of my first memories of me and my dad is playing this. He passed away earlier this year. Brings back great times
I'm happy to hear that this brought you back to some great memories with your dad!
I remember playing this and raging everytime one of those fucking snails or mushrooms killed me xD

That's amazing! I got Commander Keen's 1st episode when I was 5, and I waited thru my _whole_ childhood for him to kick the evil Mortimer's butt!
I'd go back to this era without even thinking twice.
FUN FACT!!! The Commander Keen has the "Standard Galactic Alphabet" that's actually the words in the Enchanting Table from Minecraft 'coz Nocth was a fan so he added it.
Let's just forget what Bethesda announced and it does not even exist. Only remember this awesome DOS game series.
amazing pfp in my opinion :D
I almost cried watching this lol. This was my favorite CK game as a kid and the one I spent hours and hours playing. Thank you for this!
Let us remember Commander Keen as it was, and not as how it became in the hands of Bethesda.
Aye, Apogee FTW!
Jack Crescend it was never good
All of you are dumb as fuck.
I hate bethesda
🦧
Just came across this video. It took me back decades, the days of IBM 386 and MS-DOS. This game used to be good fun😍
You'll love more of my gaming content!
Played this when I was a toddler. Bethesta killed the Charm...
@Heresiarch BIG PLATFORM SHOES TO FIT YOUR GAMEBOY COLOUR, YEAH! YOU LOOK SO FUCKING AWESOME!

I think this game is the earliest time I can remember where I REALLY wanted to drink the fictional sodas. They just look so damn good...
I remember playing this game with my dad when i was 5 or 6 years old. He passed away a month ago and watching this brings back such amazing memories. Thanks.
You're welcome. My condoleances for the passing of your father. Hold on to those great memories.
This game was in my grandpa's PC. Amazing memory of a time and a loved person that are not here anymore
Same

I'm sorry to hear that. It's lovely how you find great memories of your sister in this game :)
Believe it or not, i learnt my first sentences in English playing this game when i was 5 ish. I had to look for every single word in a dictionary. I'm 28 now, i am spanish and had to emigrate to the UK. Thanks videogames XD
@Great Cornholio Hey genius, that's a perfectly valid spelling.
@juan I did start learning it with the dictionary as well but it was with King's Quest IV :-D
First true complete longplay of keen I've seen on TH-cam. Nice!
Thank you for watching! I got all of the Commander Keen games completely on my channel, and many others! :)
Wow the music is amazing. I used to play this at my friend's house when we were 7 or 8. Only played the first couple of levels as we really had no idea what we were doing. Brilliant, brings back memories from 25 years ago. My friend walked into a lamp post.
Poor friend, is he ok?
always remember the music, the yego level imprinted on me
This is the first video game I ever played in my life. I was 6 back then. The other day I downloaded and played it again after more than 15 years and discovered it is still as enjoyable as in the first day 🤩
20 year ago memory

so why dont you play it yourself then? i have all the games still on my pc plus 2 or 3 fan made games. which are awesome as well.
This game and Bio-Menace was my entire childhood 😭😭😭😭😭 Thank you so much for uploading this jewel.
Commander Keen 4 n' Prince of Persia 1989 were the 1st 2 games I ever played when I was a kid and until this day I still believe these games are some of the best games ever made.
Both of these games are on my youtube channel :)
@@Dosgamert oh believe me you got a sub my friend. Btw what was the name of the other game that was about a kid killing Zombies?

Loved this game!
Can't believe I missed that little hidden passage on the first level, with all those lives and other exit 😱
I've missed so many hidden treasures...
Them trees looks so high now 😂
Damm....I was looking for this game for years! I only remember that the guy had a jumping pole, but forgot the title of the game. Thank you!
Pogo stick! I remember they were quite a rage back in 90s. Haha.
Love this game. I still have it on my computer 20 years later
This is the first video game I played! Thanks for uploading it. My chilhood :)
Same here dude
There are a LOT of secrets in this I was never aware of. I'd even argue that it's unfair how hidden some of them are.
Partly an anti-pirating measure - you'll never fully complete the game if don't properly purchase it and get the damn guide
I remember buying this game from radio shack with my dad for 5 bucks when I was a kid. I Played every morning before I left for school ... GREAT MEMORIES, Thank You 💯💪🏾
Those darn mushrooms scared me as a kid. Like they’d eat Keen as they laughed maniacally 😂
I didn't realise how much I remembered until I saw it again, and it just flooded back
"Time to mow the lawn!" "Not now im busy watching dad play commander keen!" 👀🍿👍
Wow. Nostalgia to the max. My childhood just flashed before my eyes.
I always loved the sound of those dew drops or tear drops or what we they are. And now the stoned trees are making me laugh.
Even though we're past all these technological disadvantages and we're able to process a whole lot more gameplay and graphics wise, we can't seem to get a better game nowadays than we did nearly 30 years ago.
That's pretty impressive I gotta say.
Thats a wild take. Even with nostalgia this game is pretty terrible
Omg this game is my childhood.. I think i'm tearing up
Kind of unusual to have a platformer that has you starting a level right to left. Never thought about it before.
the mario habits run deep

What purpose do the tears serve? I see the score doesn't go up upon collecting them, and I honestly can't remember the purpose. Thx!
I was today years old when I noticed the trippiness of this game...Crazed mushrooms and trees that look like they just lit up LOLOLOLOL
Such a CLASSIC

Haven’t thought about this gem in over 30 years. For some reason I remember every little detail! Got up early to play this before school!
Wow. I remember playing this when I was about 4 or 5. Such a trip. Brings me back
*Ah, john Carmack. That man made my childhood really awesome.*
Did you play all of the Keen games?
This game and its ideas were from Tom Hall. John Carmack and John Romero were the programmers

Fantastic. Got this episode of Keen free with a Gravis Advanced (clear plastic) joystick I bought for my 386. Great times. Thanks for the memories.

i do remember a lot more overworld stuff...from what i remember i never did/found Miragia but i did lifewater and the pyramid and then i got stuck.
Haha, never heard the music in this game before.
On my old 386 we didn't have speakers so I only heard the "PC-Speaker" biip-boop sounds ^^
Same, I think some of those sounds were actually better on the internal speaker. A lot of the 'real' sounds here are kind of too subtle.
I remember this game so well! I just started playing it again. ❤️
So many memories flashed back. I used to play this when I was a kid every weekend especially summer
Omg I used to play this and "Crayola Rocks" when I was like

I played that with my best friend decades ago. No worries, no bad news, no shit in media, just plain innocent fun.

So much nostalgia! Thank you so much for posting this!
Fun fact: Commander Keen is the father of Doom Guy
Edit (June 2021): It's probably more of a fan theory than a "fact"
And Commander Keen (Billy Blaze) has been named after his grandfather BJ Blazkowicz (Wolfenstein 3D).
In the new Wolfenstein: Youngblood (2019) game you play as one of BJ's and Anja's daughters (they're twins). Could one be Keen's mom?
@@Dosgamert Gee, what a family. Saving the world is a tradition of theirs? :DDDDDDDD
