Derrick, as a long time fan, I missed your reviews. They have that great engaging, yet professional tone to them. Glad to have you back when at one point, I was questioning if you were gone or not. Bravo Sir!
I've missed hearing you do game reviews Derrick and was delighted to see one here on your new channel. I like the format at the end that lists pros and cons rather than a review score. If you decide to keep making the occasional review here, I'll keep coming back for more! I need to hop back into this game and finish it. Tempted to go for 100% for that nice completion bonus cause Link just doesn't look like Link to me without it. Happy Holidays and thanks for the Good Vibes!
I just want to say that Age of Calamity is my personal Game of the Year ☺️ Also to anyone reading this: I hope you have a very Merry Christmas ☃️🎄😇✝️ Good vibes everyone ☺️
I hope you had a nice holiday! Age of Calamity was in my top three myself. It was my favorite game released in 2020, but of the games I played, I actually put Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice and Sayonara Wild Hearts above it. Super close nonetheless.
spoilers for aoc i think that astor, harbinger gabon, purah, robbie, and sooga will be dlc since they are the only ones that have spots and artwork in the gallery but aren’t actually playable
I couldn't stand the base defense aspect of the original HW. For me, it was just too much going on at once, especially when I had a to deal with multiple boss monsters.
@@georgebell1122 That definitely helped a lot. But it only lessened that stress, not removed it. And I know some people do really enjoy that stress, but it just wasn't for me. I prefer the straight-forward objectives of Age of Calamity, personally. OG Hyrule Warriors was really fun, and I loved the levels where defending the bases was something you could just run and do on your way to the goal and then not think about them, because I like capturing the bases, just not having the main base be about to fall while I'm on the other side of the map dealing with a boss, and the ability to switch characters at will was the best thing about Legends and Definitive Edition.
Very good review, I just would add a couple of things. I personally needed 70 hours to 100% the game on hard, that includes searching for Koroks initially without a guide, but when I couldn't find them looking them up. I'd imagine it could be done in 50 to 60 on normal with a guide from the start. While you have significantly (and I mean significantly) less weak enemies than in the previous Hyrule Warriors, those enemies are much more dangerous. Even small mob enemies can hit you here. I was genuinely shocked when one of those smaller enemies actually decided to do an attack animation and hit me with it and that only happened a handful of times in 150 hours of gameplay. In Age of Calamity that will happen regularly. The bigger enemies are also much more of a threat while requiring much less waiting. In Hyrule Warriors definitve edition you effectively wait for them to do the move so you can use their item to do meaningful damage. In Age of Calamity you still want them to do that, but you can do meaningful damage simply by hitting them or doing flurry rushes/parrying.
I’m not too fancy on it, I wanted to actually see what happened in the past, but judging the story as it’s own thing it’s incredible and I love the game so much.
I really appreciated how this game respects the gamer's time generally. I'm a fan of the streamlining overall. Nice review! I'm not sure how much I'll dive into your long-form discussions but I am happy to see these tightly designed videos going forward.
Hard agree on the reduced tactics. Capturing outposts doesn't feel necessary at all. In the original if I ignored keeps, even if they were basically optional, it would cause me problems. Here, I can skip over anything that the game isn't pointing me towards, which sucks. Overall though this game is phenomenal and I hope it secures more warriors titles for the switch in the future
I know some people are upset that the story wasn't exactly the prequel that eventually lead to the events of BOTW like they hoped it would be (I was a little dissapointed as well, ngl). But once you kinda accept that this is more of a 'what-if' story rather than the much more dark, bleaker timeline, I'd say it's a fairly enjoyable story.
Right I forgot you guys did reviews, I definitely associate you with the TNTs now -- but I'm glad to see a couple new reviews posted! Happy holidays to you all ❄️
AoC has become my fav Zelda ever next to BOTW. Amazing story, superb voice acting, great gameplay, epic music and beautiful artstyle! Hope Nintendo will continue expanding the BOTW universe! Can't wait for BOTW 2!!!
I agree this is a great companion game, it’s not better than botw but it is great to play after it and really get into just a beat em up slash with botw flair.
I’ve never played a warriors game before (or any proper hack and slash for that matter) should I start on normal or hard mode? I like a challenge but I don’t want it to be too frustrating or hard to learn
I haven’t played any warriors game before and I started on hard after a few levels, it’s tough but very doable and very fun to complete a difficult fight and feel the satisfaction. I did all the side quest immediately, so I was never under leveled, so thst might mean something idk
I’m at 95% 60 hours Hard. Are the blood moons necessary for the 100% completion in the statistics? Bcuz I haven’t done any yet and I don’t want to do the, if I don’t have to
Derrick- Saying you love frame rate drops and stuttering because it means the system is "working hard" is the worst bootlicking review comment I've ever heard
Steve, if you read this, you need to know that you're not the only one who is well passed the age of the greatest games and don't have enough money for the atrocities they've committed to our people and breed ill will towards the same thing as Allah and his messenger. It's not the only way to get to see his face and body of work that is so fantastic and unconventional for a trailer park boys.

Completely off topic but it sucks that we're probably not getting Derrick's Grandma for a video this Christmas.

I 100% AOC now I'm waiting for dlc for this game.
Same. I'm hoping we can get new costumes for the cast, the return of Link's legacy tunics from BotW, and maybe legacy dresses for Zelda.
me too! i want dlc that fleshes out astor and sooga, and makes em playable.

You’re so right about not having to defend bases. That’s really the only thing that stops this game surpassing the original in every way

@@Hey-Its-Dingo that’s fair though I think part of that is dealt with now you can tell different characters where to go and switch between them

The original is too lackluster.
AoC feels fresh by comparison.

Agreed, the time travel aspects were done well in my opinion. Glad to know it didn't affect your enjoyment, as that isn't the case for some people
I wasn't a huge fan of the time travel aspect, but I really enjoyed the game and its story despite of that!

I might hate Revali, but his theme is one of the best in the game, maybe the entire series
