- I can't believe there's no footage of these guys on TH-cam! I recorded this a bunch of years ago on TNN. Little did I know then how big an influence John Cowan would be on me. I met John in 2006 at one of his shows and found him to be an incredibly humble and down-to-earth person. It's not very often that you meet your heroes and even less that they actually turn out to be everything that you had made them out to be in your mind. John is and will always be my favourite singer in the world and one of the only people who can reduce me to a kid in a candy store when we meet!

"John Cowan Underrated" is the first thing that comes to my mind everytime I see him performing.

John Cowan - best voice in Country, Bluegrass, or Rock. Take your pick. Saw his show at Nashville City Winery a few years ago. He can wear out that bass too. 🙏
best male vocalist alive unless some guy is hiding. JCow is amazing to the point of doing things vocally with ease that great singers won't even attempt. Nice guy too.

The earlier Sky Kings album (recorded with Patrick Simmons as a fourth member) is also now available in digital form on iTunes and at Amazon. Great band that should have gotten a bigger push. John Cowan should be a superstar. (In my collection, he is).
They were called "Four Wheel Drive" when they did that first record. I can't find this line-up on Amazon. Please help me out.
The Sky Kings "From Out of the Blue" with the 2nd lineup was only released as a Rhino Handmade limited edition. Amazon still has some for about $30. The 4WD version with Patrick Simmons was not ever pressed in hard copies (although I hope it is someday). That's available on iTunes but not at Amazon (even digitally).

Blue wasn't available on iTunes. I do have that disc. I also have their
Strawberry Music Festival set.

I used to attend the Strawberry Music Festival. They played there back
in the day and a friend of mine taped the over-the-air show. There's
also another show circulating in a nice audience format.

Will be seeing them at the Tuolumne Concerts in the park in California next week. Great country band.
Warner Bros. really screwed up big time when they didn't release this album. A smaller record company released just a few of them, like between 100 and 500 and I was lucky enough to get one, but lost it last year in a tornado.
Why weren’t they given a chance. These guys sounded great!
Not to take anything away from John Cowan or his current group, but I have a hard time with him being relegated to a background singer with the Doobie Brothers, They should get something new together and have him sing. The guy has pipes.
To be fair, singing background and bass for the doobies probably pays significantly more.
Before Sky Kings, "Four Wheel Drive" including Pat Simmons from Doobies also recorded an album but that album wasn't released from RCA Nashville. Later Sky Kings album was released from Rhino, but 4WD album not yet. Both are great country-rock album.

NICE! Have seen John dozens of times since the mid-70's in all kinds of incarnations. Caught Poco with Rusty 2-3 times 30+ years back. And I'm finally going to see Bill Lloyd live next weekend with The Longplayers 50th Album gigs next Friday & Saturday in NashVegas! These guys have been key parts of some great music in our lives, haven't they? Thanks for sharing!

No, I was asking about the song someone said was from the Will The Circle Be Unbroken II record. They thought it was called You Can Knock. I thought the song might be the same as the New Grass song You Don't Knock.
Check Rhino, they put out an excellent CD on their "Handmade" Series. As terrific as Poco, the most interacted with US bands
