3 Things I HATE About My 2011 Toyota Avalon Limited (3rd Gen)

- In this video, I'm just giving a few things I hate/strongly dislike about my 2011 Avalon. These might just be personal, but they might also bother some other people as well.

Sticky dash (melted plastic) was common in Toyotas of this vintage. My 2010 Camry has it too. There was a recall campaign to replace the dash, but it ended long ago. I bought a carpet dash cover to fix the glare problem.
I have a 2007 Limited with 301,000 and it still runs great! I have no problems with my dashboard. I’ve been on 9 hour trips.i don’t have the issues you’re talking about.
You may be able to help the dashboard glare by using one of those Mr. Clean sponges to wipe off any high gloss protectant and then use something from armour all or turtle wax that is meant to give a more natural and low shine. I’ll have to try that. I always put a natural finish product on it, but maybe it’s buildup from the past?

@theaveragecar672 the dash board I think they made it that way because the models 2005 to 2010 dashboards tend to Crack I had a 2006 limited & I have a 2011 now

2009 Limited owner mine has 212k miles on it runs great unfortunately I got one that suffers from CDD Cracking Dashboard Disease common for Toyota/Lexus at that time but I put a Dashboard cover on it so not only has it not gotten any worse it also cut down on the glare
You forgot about the mpg on avalons mine goes down to 16-17 miles per gallon sometimes 😬
One thing about the '11 is the rear view camera doesn't get parking lines whereas the '12 does.

Some glue can affix the small transmission plastic plate. The subwoof is old, and it is not a default. I have replaced subwoofs for both my camry and fusion. It is not hard at all to replace them. Take off whatever panel, find the right size subwoof, get one, and install.
It’s not hard necessarily, just time consuming I think. From what I understand, you need to remove the rear seats, to be able to remove the rear deck, to get to the sub
All you need to remove is the head rests no need to remove seats

My subwoofer had a recall on it, yours might have one as well, got it replaced for free
I never understood why Toyota never included the power tilt/telescoping steering wheel on any Avalon like every Lexus does...

I agree. Would have also been nice to have a heated steering wheel. I also wish the cooled seats blew a little stronger.
The 2019 limited has power tilt

Another thing I dislike about my avalon is the rear electric sun shade. It goes up but won't go down on its own. I also used to have a problem with it randomly going up without me hitting the button
I’ve heard that happen a lot. I stopped using the screen once I got the windows tinted to prevent the issue from potentially happening.
That means the motor is going bad in it, mine went bad and is stuck in the up position which doesn't seem to bother me, I'd rather have it stuck up than down and unable to use it at all, but it means you need to replace the motor.
A few glasses of wine can get it to go down on its own. 😂
Hi, great video, our Avalon sub was replaced by Toyota under a recall, I wonder if you can get Toyota to honor that recall for you.
I reached out to them, and unfortunately they weren’t able to do anything about it! My plan is to just replace it myself this summer.
What windshield blades are the best? Some just leave a film residue and that's totally not safe!
I have some cheaper Bosch ones and they’re okay. No residue or anything, but I wouldn’t buy them again
Good clip ..how do you find fuel consumption city and highway overall?
For my 2011 in the city I get about 270-280 miles for a full tank. Generally filling up every 3 to 4 days of driving. This is using 87 octane.

Just got one, love it but yea some weird things. the binging when I turn off the car is random I agree. my gear shift knob is tight a little sideways, guessing someone overtightened it before. the lcd screen goes to default screen when I would like it to stay on usb or sat. so I can see what songs are playing but it seems to like to default back to maps or info depending on what I had on last. huge thing I am trying to figure out is my alarm went off and I was not around and it killed my battery. might just turn off alarm. I wish I could set alarm to stay on just for a few mins only. when I work I can not be close to my car since im out on the field 80% of the time or in loud areas. possible alternator or old battery ? but battery says 12+ volts unless alarm kills it :p
The issue with the screen not staying on the "now playing" one always annoyed me, I honestly just kept it off 99% of the time. That's weird, I'm not sure about the alarm and if you can change how long it stays on for. Luckily those are little things in the grande scheme of things! It was a great car.
I hate that the 3rd brake light is hard to change
Looking at buying a 2011 Av myself. The only issue I see online about that year is paint chipping. I think it’s only the white colorway but have you had any issues with your car?

Hi super late but yes I have a white 2011 Avalon and man the chipping on my car is bad I’m about to get it repainted same color other than that it’s a good car
I own black 2011 avalon and yes the clear coat start coming out but I buffet it and fix it my self.

Hmm, I'm honestly not sure man. It's possible that not all limited's came with the GPS.

I own a 2011 Avalon with a 178000 miles and I've never noticed the glare but I live in Florida and every time I drive I wear polarized lenses never noticed the glare the cover to the shift area my covers never popped off and I've got a 178000 miles and my Subway for I listen to smooth jazz and some heavy metal and I've never experienced a word for blowing unless somehow you're just broke it's not that difficult to get to
Fir the glare issue , you can buy polarized sunglasses for yourself ..TIA
I live in AZ and never even considered dash glare.
My 2011 has 114,00 miles on it and it still runs like a new car. I haven’t noticed any of these problems.
I'm surprised you didn't mention anything about the fan unit inside the driver seat being so hard that it feels like you're sitting on a box, not very much cushion. Our rear screen won't raise anymore, and the 3rd brake light went out. Other than that the car is nice. I notice the glare too.
I never noticed that too much to be honest. My third brake light failed, and I didn't want to pay a mechanic hundreds of dollars just to replace a bulb so I left it alone and never had a problem. It was a lot of work just to replace the bulb, so I didn't even bother doing it myself.
I guess I should correct this. It technically isn't 'out' I mean the bulb is good, it comes on sometimes and then most of the time it's not working. So something wrong with the wiring I suspect. I don't worry with it either.@@theaveragecar672

The subwoofer is a big problem in all 2011 avalons.
I absolutely love my avalon the only thing I hate is when you connect to Bluetooth and someone calls, you can't talk to them through the car you have to put it on speaker. i know, not a big deal but🤷🏼♀️
Agreed, it took me a while to get used to it.
@@theaveragecar672what I don't like is when you have the media button selected and you put the car into reverse it puts that black strip across the top of your screen making it almost useless to use the backup camera. You have to select AM or FM before putting it into reverse in order to see the entire screen on the backup camera view.

Yup, these are great cars. I guess these are more like little things that annoy me.
After owning mine for a few weeks, I can 100% confirm that the dashboard glare is atrocious.
Buy a dash cover for the glare

What's the fuel econ
Summer fuel is a lot better. Best I got was 34 mpg over 140 miles. But normal driving I can get close to 30mpg. Winter it drops to like 25-26 though
