The purpose of the big black cover, if you have any experience with the 250, is that it helps keep your pant leg from getting sucked into the intake (if, like most folks, you're right handed). The extra separation helps. As far as the pull start goes, you should pull UP, not OUT. Problem solved.
I work at a sweeper truck company we've been using stihl bg86s for years they had a recent carburetor change that makes them not last nearly as long as they used to we've been looking for a different one to switch to. We've been testing one of these for the past 3 weeks it's the first hand blower that has on par power to the bg86. Now we'll just see if it lasts more than the 3-4 months the new Stihl models have been lasting. We use blowers extremely extensively 364 days a year and they're running about 8 hours a night so it's going to blow anything up fairly quickly the Stihl blowers used to last nine months to a year before the latest carburetor changes.
There is absolutely a reason for that cover. It's to keep your clothing away from the intake. Happens all the time with my blower, when I hold it in my right hand my shorts constantly get sucked up against the intake, reducing the output of the blower. This little bumpout cover will fix that.
The big black guard like others said is to prevent pants or in my case long button down shirts when not tucked into pants getting sucked in and preventing max airflow. Take you a dremel and trim it off if it bothers you
the cover on the left side of the unit is there to keep your pants out of the recoil/ fan area. its that way because most people are using it right handed.
Spencer Lawn Care The difference is if your pants get caught on the inner orange grill you are obstructing airflow and causing issues, the biggest of which is your blower doesn't really blow anymore! Having two grills means your pants can get sucked into the outer black grill but your engine still gets airflow and the blower functions as intended. Not saying it doesn't take up more real estate or aggravate but it absolutely serves a purpose.
I wish my Stihl bg85 had a guard on top of the guard. I definitely restrict airflow when it comes near my pants. Curious how power would be in comparison.
I would say the cover is because they made a left handed machine and most people are right handed. It keeps an inch or so of clear air between your leg and the blower suction.
I have this blower I love it on bad thing I got is the starting paw get dirt in it and won't engage have pull the 4 screws out and spray with wd 40 and work fin for a while again

the cover is the for right handed users which are 98 % of the people so your shorts don't get sucked in every time.

It snaps off and on. It just looks dumb without it. Lol
It's a nice leaf blower, I will take a look at it when it will be sold in Canada.
Cool man, it's nice for sure.

Outerspaces landscape I understand that. But it has another cover under that big black one.

Copper Creek Cuts I get what your saying. I'm just saying it sticks out and looks dumb. It's to far out.
Spencer Lawn Care Yeah, I hear you there and not arguing that! :) Just addressing what you mentioned at 3:40 about not figuring out the purpose.

Thanks!
I’m starting up my business do you think this would be a good blower
I have a BG55 stihl blower wich they dont make them any more because its replaced by BG 86
For sure you can't go wrong with Echo or a stihl handheld
yeah the echo dealer here wasnted $350.00 for there 25cc blower wich I paid $175.00 for 27.2cc bg55
This Blower is around $150.00 and the Stihl BG 55 was replaced with the BG 50 which has a lower cfm and lower mph speed.
That black cover is for…… just kidding
How does this compare to the Echo PB 250 LN?
ranmangolf yes
I absolutely hate the on off switch! Should return to on automatically!
good revieu
Thank you

That bulky cover is to help from sucking up your pants and stopping air flow. Starting to notice the weight lose in your face bud. Enjoy the vids.
