I finally passed!! You guys can do it! They want you to pass and you got this, just chill out and pretend they're someone you're comfortable driving with.
i got my restricted just over 8 months ago so here are my personal tips. 1) when u are approaching a stop sign, FULLY stop, no small movement, foot FULLY on the brake. I know this sounds obvious but i failed to stop at one of the signs ( i thought i had but my instructor said i got so close just didnt do that full brake) 2) even tho it honestly feels a bit silly, check mirrors and blind spots (turn your head over ur shoulder on each side at a time) at least every 10 secs if not more. you should be doing this while driving regularly but just overexaggerate on the test. that also includes any moventment youre doing. ie. switching lanes, turning into a road, honestly even at traffic lights just looking around and checking goes a long way i would imagine. 3) the parallel PARK. this was the only reason i put off booking my test for a while. id never done one, it was scary etc. practice, practice, practice !! u will get it, it took me a few days to get comfy (also having a small car did help me) but now i do them all the time. i also dont know this for a fact, but im 90% sure on the restriced if you have to do a parallel park (which u mostly will) then itll only be the movement behind another car, it wont be in between two. which, tbf to me was still scary but not as much as the regular way of doing it lol 4) my instructor told me was that when youre turning into a road with two lanes, you always go into the left lane unless youre turning right (or smth like that theres probs other reasons but cant fully remember) anyway yeah, make sure to just relax as much as possible. it feels like a big deal, and it is but no matter the outcome all you can do is try your best. best of luck to all those taking their tests!
Good advice... yet again proves though passing is just a box ticking exercise. You could be the most unskilled driver ever and still pass if you "check your mirrors at the right intervals" etc.
I have my Restricted test tomorrow, bit nervous about it. Practised parallel parking tonight with my mun around 8pm but did way worse at night than I did during the day, hoping I ace it first try! Videos like these are putting me at ease

Just passed but I had 2 critical errors, I didn't realize that cutting a corner was a critical error so just watch that. Otherwise, don't worry too much its not that bad if you have enough practice :)
Just got my restricted license 2 days ago but before that I did some driving practise with AA which was very helpful. And your video was helpful as well cheers!
I failed my restricted yesterday in less that 10 minutes,so I think this video will help me pass next time. I've watched this heaps to help me remember the critical errors and immediate fails to hopefully avoid me doing them in the test. I go for my second test in November,I'll comment again then whether I pass or not! Hopefully I pass next time,I'll practice heaps until my next test!

Very helpful. I did mine the other day prior to watching this and got pinged for: Following distance (x2) Too slow (thought someone wanted the crossing and they didn't) Very gutting as usually I'm not too bad on my following distance and I only had 5m left in the test, so without 1 of the following distance errors or that pedestrian crossing, I would've been good to go. Interestingly I got both parallel park and 3 point turn on my test and aced both of those, but failed on the small stuff. Hopefully second time is the trick!

Great video with many useful hints and helps. I am pleased that I passed on the first try. When entering the motorway, I made a critical error in speed (too slow). Other than that, my mirror and blind spot checks, parallel park, and signals are good.😃😄
Yeah mate gotta remember to get to 100! One of my biggest pet peeves is people not speeding up on onramps. Don't be afraid to give it some beans! Best of luck

Great video thank you! Test is this week 😬 1:16 is something new to me also quite confusing...what happens when there are multiple cars parked on the left side. Are you still meant to indicate right the whole time you pass the line of cars? Seems hazardous if you do.
Yeah it's a really dumb rule, but I usually indicate for three seconds to go over the centerline, then don't indicate while driving along, then indicate for three seconds to go back over. Either way, there's absolutely no reason to carry on doing this after your test. Just another case of how our driving tests are box ticking excersizes rather than actually teaching people to drive... Going for my restricted driving test tomorrow I did 2 driving lessons with a driving instructor. He said that I did good and there isn't anything to worries about. Just hope that on the day I don't get nervous and make a stuff up. 😬
@@KiwiCarLife unfortunately, my driving instructor that was supposed to take my test yesterday was sick so I couldn't sit my restricted yesterday unfortunately. However, I managed to get a free spot that opened up today at 3pm and I passed. I am so happy that I got it out of the way now. It was subbosed to be 1 hour but he only took me out for 45 minutes he told me that he has had enough to access me on and that he was very impressed 🙂. It wasn't as hard as I thought to be honest, I did a few driving lessons before I sat the test to make sure that I got it all sorted correctly which is a very idea to do before going for your test. Thank you so much for this video as well this helped me out heaps. 🙂
Hi I’m taking my restricted license next week but been driving for 40plus years n just the codes n minor mistakes that need to do in order to pass but either than that I am certainly driving with cautious on NZ roads ever since but we really need Samoan driving instructors here in Christchurch because of the language barrier please

Every time you need to do a turn left or right you you need to check rear view wing mirror and blind spot right? And if so should I do all of these as I indicate or when?
@KiwiCarLife the one thing that really annoys me is I grew up on a farm been driving since I was 12 I've been pulled over by police on farm roads to compliment my driving these roads are family owned roads that they use to get from a to b and failing like that is really annoying !!

I have been teaching my son to drive and have taught him to enter the intersection (within reason of him or only 1 other car also waiting) to wait until there's a gap in oncoming cars to turn right (when there is no right turning arrow just a green light) is this allowed when sitting your restricted?
Sorry I’m a bit confused that scenario is quite complicated. All I was suggesting at 3:05 is don’t enter an intersection while turning right and block oncoming cars.
@@suetempleton9135 oh, yes although I wouldn’t coz there’s a high chance you’ll end up stuck in the middle of the intersection when the light becomes red, especially at peak times

I have my test tomorrow and I have done 5 driving lessons and from the results I should be able to pass the test easily that’s according to the driving instructor. Just hoping for the best tho🙏🏽
When inidcating across a centre line does it matter if the road shows a centre line or not, for example if there is no centre line do I still have to indicate?

@KiwiCarLife the one thing that really annoys me is I grew up on a farm been driving since I was 12 I've been pulled over by police on farm roads to compliment my driving these roads are family owned roads that they use to get from a to b and failing like that is really annoying !!
My son has his restricted next Mondsy. I have forwarded this video to him. And some of the queries and your responses. Thank you for the video. At 3:05 you mention not to stop in an intersection. I have been teaching my son to drive and have taught him to enter the intersection (within reason of him or only 1 other car also waiting) to wait until there's a gap in oncoming cars to turn right (when there is no right turning arrow just a green light) is this allowed when sitting your restricted?
Sorry I’m a bit confused that scenario is quite complicated. All I was suggesting at 3:05 is don’t enter an intersection while turning right and block oncoming cars.

@@suetempleton9135 oh, yes although I wouldn’t coz there’s a high chance you’ll end up stuck in the middle of the intersection when the light becomes red, especially at peak times

I have my test tomorrow and I have done 5 driving lessons and from the results I should be able to pass the test easily that’s according to the driving instructor. Just hoping for the best tho🙏🏽

Also, when accelerating or decelerating, you have to look at your rear mirror.
