When I come to my next test, I will stop at every junction to check everywhere even the blind spots. Also it's better to wait behind the line when turning right. This improves my experience of driving.
no need to wait behind the line at a traffic light when turning right, even if you don't have a gap, on coming traffic will slow for the yellow light before turning red, giving you the time to turn right. You don't need to check all your blind spots, just the ones from the direction you are crossing over. If you are turning left, you check your left blind spot. (advice from my instructor btw)
5:26 silver turns across blue... obviously no problem. but the rule CHANGES? if the road isn't a T but is an uncontrolled Cross? then the rule is the old way?... silver "give way to the right"?
These rules are much like the international rules: small arc comes before big arc. In the UK, they are actually reversed with a few but important exceptions. One is that you _always_ have to give way if you come from the bottom of an uncontrolled T-intersection. The other thing is that the right-before-left rule is not reversed at uncontrolled cross-shaped intersections; it still applies even if you are driving on the "wrong" side of the road.
Re 2:40 2 cars turning right - this is different to the UK Highway Code which says you should pass behind the oncoming car. However my experience is that most drivers do it the New Zealand way.
if two green arrows are showing at same time from opposite directions.car turning left and car turning right opposite ways who has right away ? ps never have experienced this two green arrows at same time.
I was quite young, maybe at intermediate school when that stupid rule of giving way to right turning traffic if you are turning left, came into effect. I remember it well the reason they said it had been introduced, "To promote traffic flow" was the excuse given for the dumbest rule ever and everyone complained about it how cars piled up behind them when they were turning left because they had to give way to those turning right, until some at least figured out that they had to judge if the vehicle behind them could get past them negating the need to give way to the right turning vehicle with some mixed resulting confusion and near misses of who had thought the situation ahead the most intelligently. So before that dumb rule existed we had traffic rules exactly as they are after 2012, back to NORMAL, and one would wonder what the hell was it all about, what over paid dummy sat in an office and decided to screw things up and leave it that way for several decades. My guess is that the man responsible had to grow old enough that he couldn't be recognised anymore due to rule reversal embarrassment. Oh yeah, and the DHs took my NZ lifetime licence off me when I finally got back from Australia.
The rule which changed at 2012 that vehicles is turning right have to give way to vehicles turning left does not make sence. Vehicles turing right have to pay attention to more factors than vehicles turning left, the change makes it even harder to turn right.
I had comments about failure to give way. Now, here's the news. I entered the intersection on a yellow light. Suddenly, a driver was failing to give way to me on a green light. However, I stopped to avoid the crash.
I had an angry man beep his horn at me when I turned right at a T intersection. He was at the bottom of the T and I was on the continuing road so he should have been patient and given way.
I wonder why all driving tests are so difficult to understand if government wants all to understand it easily to follow rules, why they dont want you to travel or touch a car you bought after spending thousands of dollars??
Byron Chavarria first of all.... Australian licenses are not valid in new zealand because we have varying road rules, i’m not sure about japan’s road rules but regardless of the fact we drive on the same side of the road, most countries have slightly varying road rules. Please don’t confuse AUS and NZ rules, you will piss people off if you actually go to australia.
In the philippines, at intersections without traffic lights and where no one's turning, 99% of drivers flash their headlights because they want to go first thinking their signal is correct. What can you say about that?
If people have trouble with the right hand rule, how are they licensed to drive. So much congestion at roundabouts, especially those where it was an intersection, because to many do not understand the reason for these and do not know the rules and have no ability to see what is happening coming up to the roundabout. that these people passed the driving test shows where the problem lies, we need properly trained drivere trainers and testers and NO MORE mums and das teachiing.
The ad you have about the safety of vehicles, how stupid is this. The more safe you make it,the less people think and be thoughtful. The number of morons who pull out from a parallel park with no indicator or looked, apparent as I am right on top of them. The only reason I don't hit them is because of the inconvenience.
and yet still 80% of new zealanders still don't understand the give way rule. This should be a TV ad
Same thing in Australia. Many people don't know how to give way!

Same in Philippines.
Ugh I know right. I get so nervous driving because other people can also make mistakes and it terrifies me.

STΞΔLTH CΔT did u pass?
Great efforts and so well explained 👏👏👏
give way when turning to all traffic. Question, does «all traffic» include pedestrians and bicycles or just motorized vehicles?
No you should run over a pedestrian and a bicyclist if they're on your way.
super helpful 10 years on!
Re 2:40 2 cars turning right - this is different to the UK Highway Code which says you should pass behind the oncoming car.
However my experience is that most drivers do it the New Zealand way.
Nuntius no it doesn't, the diagram in rule 181 is showing an offset junction which forces the vehicles to pass in front of each other.
How many minutes or sec you stop at the stop sign?
Hangale Tuifua if the road is clear, no more than 5 secs
Hm? I’d said till your Car comes to a complete stop

tyvm. extremely helpful teaching my son
Are you allowed to wait in the intersection if turning right?
Oh course you can!!
if two green arrows are showing at same time from opposite directions.car turning left and car turning right opposite ways who has right away ? ps never have experienced this two green arrows at same time.
I think it says right turning vehicle give way to left turning vehicle?
Thank you very much 👍

I find the easiest way to remember the rules is: “if you’re turning right - you’re wrong”

We need a p.s.a for indicating left out of roundabouts. And why are people indicating right when going straight through? Get your shit sorted.
Should play this on a massive billboard continuously in Queenstown. Bloody awful drivers.
