I really liked the comment about how alcohol is a "simple" way to get the dopamine, where "hard" ways might be more fulfilling in the long term. That's brilliant.
Seriously. Very insightful...we discuss things along these lines all the time in the substance abuse treatment world. Drugs and alcohol in general are VERY effective short-term solutions to many needs, and it's more a matter of finding solutions that don't destroy your life, have lots of consequences, and/or are longer-lasting
neck curls why retinol palmitate? For vitamin A? It's easy to get vitamin a even too much vitamin a as a vegan? And do you mean whole food sources of dha (flax, chia, walnuts) and iodine (sea veg or not a whole food but helpful iodized salt)
Rube beta carotene very poorly concerts to retinol, retinol palmitate is a vegan source supplement, flax ,chia, walnuts, ect. Are a source of ala not dha and ala converts extremely poorly into dha so they are not a source of dha, and the sea vegetables can be a source of iodine but they’re all contaminated with micro plastics, parasites, and other contaminants.
neck curls in simnett nutritions last video though he showed us even with the conversion rate of ala to dha he got all he needed (but said you can't be sure how much you actually absorb). With beta carotene vegan gains talked about it on a video once and he had done much research citing studies saying we can get enough vitamin A. I guess having blood work etc is the way to really know though. Thanks for the reply
I’ve been watching you for a few months. I’m 63 and just couldn’t go on eating the way I had been raised. My concern for life and my life prompted me to go vegan. Your videos really help me. They are funny they seem very genuine and caring . I think you’re just wonderful !! For all of us out here that need a little extra help. I’m so sorry about your kitty and my heart goes out to you. Take care Derek Keep doing what your best at ....making all of us healthier and feel better❤️
Yes it is amazing I love too watch this channel it gives me so much information about vegan health and helps me mostly every day to know what to make or what to do.
Derek, I have no question, but just wanted to say that your positivity and information helped me transition into veganism much easier. You really are a big inspiration to me for leading a happy life. Thanks for all the work you put in for us!
Hey Derek, very excited to here you are one of us who have trouble moderating our alcohol intake. I believe I heard you say "progress not perfection" in another video and I have had my suspicions since then hahahah. I have been following your videos for awhile now and it's exciting that we relate in that aspect. I have been vegan since Oct 2017 and "abstinent" since April of 2014. Thanks so much for your videos and here's to bettering ourselves.
If anyone actually ever sees this AND also sees any large wild felines...DO NOT BECOME ROADRUNNER. DO NOT RUN. In general, you should be perfectly fine in areas where they are because they almost always have zero interest in being around humans, however the WORST thing you can do around one when they see you is turn and/or run. This activates their natural predatory responses, and they will very likely "chase" you down ("chase" as in they can run you down in 2 seconds so there's no point in running anyhow). Instead, keep facing towards them, zero very sudden movements, and keep backing away very slowly long after they're out of sight. Even things like blinking slowly are good to show how calm/not prey-like you are...
I agree with your thoughts on alcohol - it affects people differently. I never drink excessively but if I'm out having dinner or at an event, I'll have a drink or two. Anything more, life is too short to deal with a hangover.
Alright thanks for all your inspiration. After binge watching you this weekend i went out on a an hour bike ride. Ooh and all i could think about is your stir fry so i bought all the veggies and greens to make a stir fry like yours over my brown rice. Thank you so much, keep doing your videos. Have a blessed day. Praying your life is always fulfilled as you have giving me a wakeup call all around with health and fitness just to stay "active".
Great video, Derek. I'm so jealous of all the rain you're getting over there. My city is currently experiencing a severe drought and we're going to run out of water.
Never mind. I did my own quick google search. Sounds like there is no real negative for freezing your greens other than texture. So a good tip for those making smooothies. Freeze your greens if your worried about them spoiling and being wasteful.
I’m surprised that the comments section isn’t blowing up about that big cat growl, I remember one of your other videos where your working out on top of a cliff you heard a big cat growl, some people were calling you crazy. Either way I appreciate your video and all of the amazing information you give to us. Your honesty is refreshing. Much love all the way from Florida.
Always love your videos. Great questions and answers. Btw, I’ve been asking clerks how their shift is going. It’s a great way to start a conversation. Thank you! I’m off to the lake with my dog.
You are such an inspiration to me. I'm currently studying to become an RD, and I love your optimistic approach to health and wellness. I always learn something new from you; Keep up the great work!
Derek, awesome video! Thank you for answering the alcohol question. Not just the knowledge, but your candid, personal decision. Something I've needed to answer myself, and this help put that answer into words.... Dates and weights, keep strong!
Man the reactions were priceless. We have had bob cats and brown bears migrate into our area so I’m always on edge when I do trail runs. But hey thanks for putting your life on the line to bring us this video.
Hey Derek, I love watching your videos! You seem so genuine and down to earth. Love the corky moments in the video and the facial expressions you make. They make me smile and sometimes I have to laugh. And a big thank you for sharing the beautiful outdoors from Canada with us and of course the amazing content.
Whole foods is the absolute best way to eat and best way to not get the things you don't want in your body. Combining whole foods in different and unique ways can create tons of variety. I am a former protein enthusiastic weight lifter personal trainer who is totally vegan now and I do not miss the protein and have more energy than ever and will never eat meat again.
Love your stuff!! I wanted to share a little about my vegan skin care "problems." Since going vegan like many of us, I researched and researched. I got scared at the idea of not getting enough probiotics and B12. So I started supplementing. As soon as I started with those, I began getting cystic acne. Keep in mind I have never had skin issues in my life. So I did an elimination diet. I thought it was gluten. I cleaned my system. After it cleared up, I took small dosages daily again. Sure enough, it came back!!! So through trial and error and lots of research, I have learned that too much of either will have some consequences. Naturally, this is very individualized but figured you love learning and helping everyone so I thought I would share that!
There are wonderful 5 minute breads to make in a cup on U tube. I make them all the time with my own special ingredients, such as coconut flour, psyllium husk, maca powder, gram flour or other powders.
that first roar really sounded like a big cat ! the second roar sounded like Crystal making a funny noise, like a duck or bird. And Derek is a show off, doing pull ups on the tree! It actually looks really fun. Its gonna be summer here in 3 months! Once its warm again imma try to climb trees haha. (im gonna fall, and die....)
Another amazing monday video with super helpful info. Loved the info about the 9 amino acids in all veggies-I was still living under that myth that I was taught in nutrition class way back in the day! Thank you for debunking that!!
Hey Derek. Love your ask me Mondays. Could you tell us a bit more about the timings of your average day, eg when do you wake up, go to the gym, eat first and last meals and go to bed. Would be very interesting to hear that and see what we could take away for our own lives. Keep vlogging dude.
Glad to hear that amino acid/protein myth dispelled! I honestly had heard the same thing (needing to consume a “whole protein” together at one time). Thanks for the info :). Looks like a nice trail!
Try drinking licorice root tea before, during or after you decide to drink alcohol, it is supposed to protect your liver from the negative effects. I get it in the bulk bins from FredMeyers and brew it like coffee or tea, then chill it in the fridge for when you plan to drink. It seems to completely eliminate my hangovers. It also seems to increase my tolerance which can be good or bad...
Great channel m8. Recognized the area as soon as I started watching your videos as I race dirt bikes at whiskey ck. I've been vegan 34 years ! Keep up the good work
First off, that was definitely a cougar 😂. Secondly, we’re both college kids who avoid alcohol, and it’s so hard these days! You’re a huge inspiration to us, and we both hope to get healthier as we get older. Lastly, I have a question. We’re both on a journey to be the best that we can be, but many people we care about are, what we believe, harming themselves. How can we encourage/inspire them to be healthier without seeming pushy or judgmental? Bad mental and physical health has affected both our families and friends
Loved the video, you've inspired me to go take a walk down to the park (not as good as a forest but it will do) 😄 I knew about getting amino acids from plants but you covered it a little more in-depth which I liked, I didn't know our bodies stored spare amino's, that's so cool. Thanks Derek!
Yo Derek!!! I've been Vegan for 4 years now and love it! Animals deserve better. The question I have is what are your thoughts on Apple cider vinegar? I drink some before eating because I've researched that it's great for digestion. Thanks! 🤘🏾🌱
Amar Prasad have you tried sauerkraut? Most fermented foods provide for gut health and benefit the normal flora, you need a good combination of prebiotic and probiotic foods.
Haha love the expression on your face in the few scary moments in this video LoL;) Hope you stay safe every time you go for a walk:) Thanks for the insights every Monday:)
I would like to preface that I am ALL FOR the vegan diet and I practice a whole-food vegan diet similar to yours. I agree that if you eat a variety of whole plant foods and adequate calories that you do not risk an issue with complementing proteins. Although, I would like to address your answer tot that question. I am in university for nutrition and we have been taught that you in fact do need to offer your body complementary proteins as your body does not recycle AAs and they are released in your urine if not completed for use by the body. We have been informed that the window for completion (when proteins are available for use in body from a past meal) is about 24 hrs. I have taken a look at the references of the 2nd reference you provided and ref 23 stated in their conclusion "we suggest that ileal losses should be considered an important component of amino acid requirements." and they dive further in the rest of the article. I do not see any supporting evidence of your claims within what you have provided and the studies that have been performed have not been on humans but pigs, rats, and sheep. As for the last reference you provided regarding the 9 essential amino acids, the references they provided are not actually attached to evidence but related article that do not support the statement. This is not an attack as I love your content and I just want to help out :)
Awesome vid, thanks man. You hit a couple out of the park, especially the bit on alcohol and the part on amino acids. From a fellow 'Frank the tank'. P.S. stayed in Parkesville last summer camping and out to Tofino for some surfing. Great part of Canada...peace, from Ontario.
hey derek, first I want to say thank you for all you've done here. it's always very inspiring and motivating in terms of the healthy vegan fitness lifestyle if I may call it so :D I'd like to comment on the 'bread question'. I am a baker (and now forest science student, love all your forest footage by the way :) ) from Germany near Berlin. As a baker I love bread. obviously :D as you mentioned already it's the best to get sourdough bread. the fermented grains or flour make it easier to digest. I'd would also recommend to use as we call it 'vollkorn brot' or 'korn an korn'. which means kind of like 'full grain bread' or 'grain on grain'. make sure that if you cut it open you see one complete grain (rye, wheat or spelt or whatever) next to the other one and so on. I hope you can understand my way of explaining it. haha. and make sure the only ingredients in your bread are grains, flour, water, salt and maybe yeast and some seeds (sunflower or so). make sure you have no fancy food industry chemicals in in. just the things we got from nature. yeah thanks again for your videos. love you derek. rock on man!! peace and greetings from Germany, Christian
Yes, that was a very strange noise at 13:44! My heart beat a bit faster for you Derek! I'm in New Zealand, we have similar Flora to you, but no 'large Carnivore' sounds thankfully! :-) Great video as usual. thanks.
I love the nature you are surrounded with, it looks so beautiful and spectacular ! I am also always out in nature to walk my dogs, it is also a good exercise specially when you have a border collie, it is a breed who is often abandoned by families because it requires A LOT of exercise ! Xxx
Become comfortable with the uncomfortable and you can get unprecedented gains. *Just remind yourself that Derek Simnett does fasted workouts on cold days while you lie in bed under the blankets!* 🔥🔥🔥 #RedPillVegan
Simnett Nutrition I also have been working on early mornings lately since I realised it's key for any success, and feels so good,so on point when your up that early
Ya sorry! It was delayed because our cat chewed my macbook cord recently, and then it stopped working last night, so I had to buy a new one today in the next town over because our town is to small to have a store that sells those kind of things. Crazy day but we made it!
Derek, you should make the last question you answer its own video. That'd be super helpful to vegans and veg curious people everywhere! Much love mah Islander brother.
This is great! The only channel I actually lol at. I love that you keep the interactions in the video like the anti social dog, your face at the suspected cougar roar, the pull up opportunity and the beard life moment 😂👌🏻 you’re just great and keep it real. Best channel on TH-cam!
Yeah, Frank the Tank comes out 1 in 10/20 times for me when I drink. I’m a “happy” drinker, but I also like to do really dangerous stunts like ride on transport and climb buildings even at an older age (just like Frank), so I don’t roll the dice anymore. It also fits my overall lifestyle not to drink. I also feel amazingly free now I don’t drink. Like I’m really living my choices despite occasional social pressures. It energises my soul as opposed to stealing it.
I am the same way! If I have a beer, I want more and more on that same day. I just don't keep it around or buy it anymore. Only drink at someone else place or at dinner so I'm not tempted to go over board. Cause I will
To the guy that ask about IF in the video. I felt the same way. It took about a week for my body to realize it wasn't going to get fed and those bad feeling quickly went away. Now I can't stop doing IF. I have tried going back to my old ways and it made zero difference in energy. Actually it made me more tired. Give it time. Also make sure you are getting all the calories and nutrients your body requires in that small 6-8 hour window.
Great video as usually! Love watching you so many interesting q&a...much more to learn. And the nature is beautiful. I love the woods too even I am not such an atleth. Bye!
I’ve cut down my alcohol consumption dramatically and it’s because I started this plant based journey and I started analyzing why I binge drank so much and it was due to my emotional and spiritual health. Now, I’ve committed to not buying any household alcohol and only having a couple drinks every couple weeks with friends. And as I’ve gotten older the effects of alcohol have gotten waaaay more intense so I’ll wake up queazy af 😂 I went from drinking at least 3 glasses of wine a night to not remembering the last time I had any. 👌🏾
I liked this before i even watched dude! Im on day 9 of my juice fast (mostly green veggie juices) Ive been an aspiring vegan for the past 4 years but have never stuck to it thanks to food addiction. I really feel myself changing this time. I thank you for this motivation you give me dude
Wow, he spoke to me directly when it came to the alcohol topic. I try to stay away because I cannot have just 1 or in "moderation." My idea of moderation is 3,4,5,...,n-1, where n = 20.
I just found your channel and subscribed. I love how much your videos help me. I’m 14 years old and have been vegan for about 6 months now
That's awesome! Happy to be of help. Wow so young. I wish I was so tuned in at 16.
Aidan McClafferty make sure you taking non gmo dha, retinol palmitate, iodine, atleast those, very important for vegans.
neck curls why retinol palmitate? For vitamin A? It's easy to get vitamin a even too much vitamin a as a vegan? And do you mean whole food sources of dha (flax, chia, walnuts) and iodine (sea veg or not a whole food but helpful iodized salt)

I love this series. Anyone else agree?
Yes it is amazing I love too watch this channel it gives me so much information about vegan health and helps me mostly every day to know what to make or what to do.
I found a cougar in the woods once, took her home we had a great time. But when she left she gave me a fake number :-(
TheGazz Man Hahahahahaha
You wish ! Lol
😂
I hear you on drinking. My wife and I stopped drinking a few years ago for similar reasons, and have never been happier!
You are lucky to live where you do man!! I absolutely love the forest!! Thanks for sharing. We love watching you!
That was totally a wild cat! Gave me chills! I would be out of there like the roadrunner-...MEEP! MEEP!=)
orangeserendipity Derek didnt care to much about the wildcat cause he’s always ready! 😁
I absolutely love and respect how you address the alcohol question. Thank you for your honesty.
orangeserendipity
roadrunner you said
If anyone actually ever sees this AND also sees any large wild felines...DO NOT BECOME ROADRUNNER.
I was Meatarded for over 30 years, now I'm Vegan going on almost 2 years. Feels amazing
Always dreamed of travelling across Canada, these boreal forests, nature is soooo beautiful up there! Thanks for sharing the environment with us.
I love how you interact with your viewers!
Many youtubers just "do their thing"....
Dang the mountain lion roar! How did you keep filming? I got scared on this side of the screen lol
HappinessInKindness I thought he farted and just act scared to hide it
Your farts must sound really weird then
HappinessInKindness you bet your ass
If you want the antioxidant benefits eat grapes or blueberries. it isn't the alcohol it is what it is made from.
Man the reactions were priceless. We have had bob cats and brown bears migrate into our area so I’m always on edge when I do trail runs. But hey thanks for putting your life on the line to bring us this video.
That was a cougar! You live in a really awesome part of the world.
Gosh you live in a beautiful place. The trees are so amazing!!!!!
The scenery is breathtaking!
Thank you for that amino acid talk!!!
Love nature!! And have not been out today,. Thanks for the challenge! I’m outside after this video!!
Great response on the alcohol question. I'm right there with you.
Derek - you are the bomb! I’ve been vegan for 4 months and I’ve learnt so much about how to do it properly from you 👍 Thanks so much!
There are wonderful 5 minute breads to make in a cup on U tube. I make them all the time with my own special ingredients, such as coconut flour, psyllium husk, maca powder, gram flour or other powders.
If it says "may contain milk" I don't really care. What matters is that the product is supposed to be vegan.
Exactly how I feel.
Justin Carrubba exactly. It isn't a vegan issue at all but a lot of vegans in comment sections are always confused by this
Yeah they just do it to cover themselves, due to allergies and usually it’s because the factory will be handling dairy products as well.
i dont have a magnifying glass when i eat something. I am vegan but im not a fanatic. Thank God I am very healthy with no food allergies.
I lived in Nanaimo for 5 yrs, luv the island and people there.
These videos are the best. Truly, very grateful.
I love how these videos are super informative and sorta like an adventure too! It makes it super fun and I feel like we get to know you better
I’m so happy you addressed the amino acid concerns! I’ve had so many questions about that myself. Keep the great videos coming!
The faces you pull with all the animal sounds :D I don't learn that much anymore from your q&a's, but they're still good for a good laugh
that first roar really sounded like a big cat ! the second roar sounded like Crystal making a funny noise, like a duck or bird. And Derek is a show off, doing pull ups on the tree! It actually looks really fun. Its gonna be summer here in 3 months! Once its warm again imma try to climb trees haha. (im gonna fall, and die....)
Hey Derek, would love to see a what I eat in a day feat Crystal
For all ur female follower :-)
Greetings from Germany!
Maya Lesage I second this!! Women do need more of certain nutrients (iron calcium folate)
Yes!! I'd love to see one too!
Yes!!!
Yes!!! Great idea!
Germany is the coolest
Tsunami warning this morning! My sister out there assured me island people are always prepared. Hope you have your bug out bag ready!
Another amazing monday video with super helpful info. Loved the info about the 9 amino acids in all veggies-I was still living under that myth that I was taught in nutrition class way back in the day! Thank you for debunking that!!
How cool that you have Cougars! In Australia you have to be wary of anything you can't see or hear....
10 degrees for you and here I am in -15 degrees with freezing rain with 20cm of snow coming from Montreal
Derek, love the info about amino acids! Thank you.
Hey Derek. Love your ask me Mondays. Could you tell us a bit more about the timings of your average day, eg when do you wake up, go to the gym, eat first and last meals and go to bed. Would be very interesting to hear that and see what we could take away for our own lives. Keep vlogging dude.

Aloha Dereck. I love you, love the way you live your life, it’s inspirational. I live in sunny Honolulu and appreciate nature. Thank you!
Thank you Derek for taking the time to make this ask me Monday videos! ✌🤙
Nature is the best !!! we feel at home in nature
Great channel m8. Recognized the area as soon as I started watching your videos as I race dirt bikes at whiskey ck. I've been vegan 34 years ! Keep up the good work
Ezekiel bread is the best most nutrient bread. Found in the frozen section.

I admire how upbeat you always seem to be, considering all the rain you get where you live.
hey derek, first I want to say thank you for all you've done here. it's always very inspiring and motivating in terms of the healthy vegan fitness lifestyle if I may call it so :D
I'd like to comment on the 'bread question'.
Xxx
Hi Derek, just bought your recipe Ebook ! sure i will enjoy :'D, see you on the next video, greating from FRance !
Don’t change the intro song ...it’s THE ask me Mondays tune yo 👌
Haha, alright man. I wasn't sure. It makes it easy for me!! Haha, I do like it. It's a happy little tune.
Love it 🎧😎
What is the song?
@@Simnettnutrition what is this song???? I'm obsessed 🎵🎵🎵🎧🎧🎧🎧

HAha, and someone is up earlier than me going harder too! Damn, up earlier tomorrow!
Simnett Nutrition I also have been working on early mornings lately since I realised it's key for any success, and feels so good,so on point when your up that early
Was wondering when this would be uploaded, made my night!
Ya sorry! It was delayed because our cat chewed my macbook cord recently, and then it stopped working last night, so I had to buy a new one today in the next town over because our town is to small to have a store that sells those kind of things. Crazy day but we made it!
Forest.... Grassland... Forest.... Grassland...Forest.... Mountain Lion!!!!!!!!!!
Derek, you should make the last question you answer its own video. That'd be super helpful to vegans and veg curious people everywhere! Much love mah Islander brother.
Another informative video!!! Thanks! The crazy wildlife noises made me lol! I would have freaked out, but would be cool to see! Bahaha!
loved your answer to the alcohol question!
Cause I will
Mountain lions while filming, you are one chill, dedicated dude, lol. Added a scary element to your Monday vid.
Same weather here in Seattle nice and rainy 😭
Haha nice video, thanks! I'm a Canuck amok in the UK, and hikes like that, I take my wellies to avoid those soakers heh. I am liking your channel.
Loved it! Thanks Derek. Big love ✌
I love all the ferns and the horticulture is beautiful.
This series is really great, I personally can learn so much from this! Thank you and greetings from Germany :)
Thank you for your answer on alcohol!!!!! Great video!
Awesome video. One tip: Link the questions in the description on the next videos so we can go directly to the questions we want.
Love your videos! Please keep them coming!!
Great video as usually! Love watching you so many interesting q&a...much more to learn. And the nature is beautiful. I love the woods too even I am not such an atleth. Bye!
I love you Derek! You are such an inspiration and i just love ya. x
so real & genuine. always love your videos!!
No question for next time, just glad you're doing them keep it up.
I liked this before i even watched dude! Im on day 9 of my juice fast (mostly green veggie juices) Ive been an aspiring vegan for the past 4 years but have never stuck to it thanks to food addiction. I really feel myself changing this time. I thank you for this motivation you give me dude
Nice! A juice fast (feast maybe?) will certainly transform your tastebuds and gut microbes to give you a good jump start!
Such a positive message on your channel! Love your content!!!!
Wow, he spoke to me directly when it came to the alcohol topic. I try to stay away because I cannot have just 1 or in "moderation." My idea of moderation is 3,4,5,...,n-1, where n = 20.
