Actually every campaign from l4d2 has a 'unique' common infected type: Dead Center - zombies in hazmat suits (immune to molotov or any burning things also drops a boomer bile occasionally) Dark Carnival - zombie clowns (their squeaky shoes attracks common zombies) Swamp Fever - zombie swamp people (hard to shoot cause they crawl, muddy and agile) Hard Rain - zombie workers (they wear earmuffs so they're immune to pipe bombs) The Parish - zombie in bulletproofs (can only be killed on their back)
I love how interactive the enemies are with the scenario around them, as well as their ragdolls and overall behaviors. They can fight, vomit, lay on the ground, sit down, etc. It adds more personality to them and it can remind the player that those infected used to be normal people once. You don't see that level of interaction or detail in many games nowadays, especially with the enemies. Usually they're just bland ''bad guys'' that you gotta kill and their AI/Behaviors outside of combat are drastically dumbed down.

Also the Jimmy Gibbs encounter is insanely rare. This was a day 1 purchase for me and we played it religiously for many years on Xbox and PC (and even play once or so a week today) and I've run into Jimmy maybe 3 times in 14 years lol
He only spawns once a month. For some reason its time calculated, for him to spawn naturally. I have 900 hours and I was lucky enough to see him in a scavenge game once.

Imo I think L4D2 had a better way of environmental story telling than L4D1. The way the survivors don't know anything about each other and the infected they are about to face, how they progressively learn along the way. and how every campaign starts off with something to remind you in how you finished the previous one. This game is phenomenal to this day.
L4D1 campaigns were separate story’s originally and focused on the creepy atmosphere rather than the characters until the Sacrifice comic came about and gave backstory to the original cast, though I will say L4D1 did a lot of elements better than L4D2.
Idk men but L4D1 is much darker and horror to be honest, you can feel the creepy atmosphere, even the sounds and music background is so unsettling to hear, but you may got point tho when it comes to story telling, like how this 4 survivors got rescued in hospital and the next day after getting rescued they now ended up in different location, like where's the helicopter? How this 4 survivors ended up in a different places now, its like playing another timeline, but overall the details on Left4Dead1 is unforgettable tho, kinda miss the horror, creepy and dark atmosphere, they should make a story path telling which this is why L4D2 story telling is much better than L4D1.
yeahhh the L4D1 felt like an arcade runner where each level only feels like a mini story telling what the survivors will do in this area with only really little or vague parts connecting the new area like how the only real connecting part of No Mercy and Crash Course was really just the helicopter crashing and it just feels like a different level with a different story with only The Sacrifice making sense of everything L4D2 was imo better in terms of telling a continuous story of a group of survivors trying to get to the end goal of an evac station somewhat cross-country/state like how the overarching connection of Swamp Fever, Hard Rain and The Parish was thru Vergil and his help in getting them to the bridge where an evac station is

The levels were also more of a deathtrap (like the Mercy Hospital rooftops) and you could easily get lost which helps enforce the "stick together to survive" aspect. Playing the Last Man Standing mutation on the L4D1 maps is a great horror experience imo.
Completely irrelevant to storytelling but I want to discuss it anyway, L4D1 had a way better atmosphere and it's kind of hard to pin down why. The setting of the individual stories, mostly taking place in rainy dark urban jungles. This alone is HUGE. It may not be unique, but that's the point. A dense metropolis is a familiar place, corrupted by the zombie outbreak. You imagine what the inhabitants were like before the apocalypse. The more unique locations in L4D2 are definitely cool, but they are less relatable, no question. The common infected and even specials looking like real people turned crazy. Compare L4D1 commons to L4D2 commons, while on paper L4D2 commons have more literal variety as they have RNG color systems for their clothing and skin, the L4D1 infected in reality are far more varied. You have white people, asians, black people, elderly, young, turned infected. You had police officers, soldiers, aircraft handlers, rural and urban looking infected, etc. The sound effects were FAR more punchy, common infected had (while hardly noticeable) more unique voicelines. The L4D1 crew being far more grounded than their comical L4D2 counterparts. I said it's hard to pin down why L4D1's atmosphere was better, and listed a bunch of things as to why, but the reason why it's hard to understand is because most of everything I discussed is still in L4D2, but there's just more to it than that. It's like a weird nagging feeling that it just doesn't hit as hard as it did in the original L4D1. It's all just personal taste however, and mostly nostalgia. I, myself, am a sucker for the late 2000s era, and while L4D2 was released in this era, it feels like it wasn't, for better or for worse. I would still obviously rather play L4D2 because it has everything from L4D1 and more, including seamless modding support. And L4D1 is missing A LOT of the charming character dialogue from L4D2. Characters worldbuilding by talking about, for example, the Whispering Oaks or the Midnight Riders, that shit is undoubtedly cool.
For the first aid part it makes sense for coach to have a basic understanding due to his past as a teacher, Rochelle probably has around the same level of understanding just in-case she needs to apply first aid to herself or her crew, Nick on the other hand, it's implied that he's a convict or criminal of sorts so he's probably patched up bullet wounds and/or blade wounds before, Ellis only knows how to fix cars, fire guns and drive.
Considering Ellis and his adventures with Keith (if he even exists, implied by dialogue on Dead Center when he starts telling a story about a burning building and killing zombies with Ketih even.) that he may know how to heal said person in case of any mishaps in their trips out in the world.

Not gonna lie, I went into this expecting obvious details like a fair few of those clickbaity kinda lists do, but these are actually genuinely interesting facts I didn't know about. I'm both impressed and excited to go back and play this game some more. Great editing too by the way! Simple and effective.

Left 4 Dead 2 remains one of my absolutely favorite games, it's amazing to see all the details placed into the world. Environmental storytelling, dialogue, etc. I love the dialogue of the characters
Growing up on the series since it first released, I was aware of everything except the squirt flowers on the infected clowns actually squirting out water. That's a detail I've gone nearly a decade and a half never knowing about.
Played Dark Carnival recently and whenever you’re in the tunnel of love and callout a specific item that will be called by its name and not generalized like with primary weapons, Ellis will add a “…of love here.” At the end of the callout
Whats more interesting is ellis healing animation is different from the rest of the survivors. We can see that ellis is still more of a noob in using the first aid kit

One completely underrated detail in both L4D and L4D2 is how realistic the sound design is, certain noises are not only loud in volume, but they also muffle lower, less loud sounds, helicopters engines are louder than your character's voice and infected but not louder than gunfire, fireworks in Dark Carnival are just as loud as gunfire and jet engines in The Parish completely muffle all noise when they pass. Also unrelated to sound, depending on the distance you use "Look!" while looking at a character, they will scream their name, say it loud, or talk in a normal tone.

I think what i find impressive is that they made over thousand upon thousands of animations to shoot or melee the infected they all don’t die the same way but can get you some interesting or cool kills im not entirely too sure about the thousand animations but like one of the comments mentioned that these details are so small and some go unnoticed when its a fast paced experience but when you slow down you relized that the small details and many other cool hidden mechanics and details is what makes this game easily the best action zombie shooter to exist
Another cool little detail I suppose for the Dark Carnival final level is that if you're playing as Ellis, there's a chance he'd sing a Midnight Rider song if you stand in front of the mic on the stage.
To add to your Strength Affected by Health section, I am pretty sure the melee weapons also have different "strengths" you can view with the melee game. Guitar and axe I remember being very "heavy" and hitting high on the chart while say something like the sword/katana hit on the lighter side. I used to think that you had to pair the adrenaline and a heavy melee to ring and break the bell.
Professional coaches isn't really use them anymore, there's a specified people for first aid to injured players. So even if he was trained to use them, probably didn't used himself all that much
Ah yes, being called a hacker and getting kicked of some rooms because i destroyed some tanks rocks never got old. Knowing that and never noticing how they didn't decided the special infected names until later feels weird, lol.

But certainly around the time i was fully commited to play it i would get kicked out of some room for breaking tank rocks at least once a day, of course there were also some people that would tell "everyone can do that" and vote no. The older the game the "wisest" the playerbase becomes anyway.
I will never get tired of L4d2. I always loved it, but was a PlayStation player till I got my hands on it on Steam. You meet the best people, and the infinite modding will always keep this gem alive as well as its solid gamplay from bottom up.
Yessss, nothing beats playing modded campaigns with randoms, sometimes it feels like the beginning of dead center where the survivors slowly start to get to know each other

Coincidentally I saw Jimmy Gibbs Jr. yesterday playing L4D2. I was fighting off the hordes then there was this one zombie that stood out among the rest of them. I took a closer look and he was wearing the same suit just like the guy in the poster. I was like; "no way is that zombie jimmy?!" lol.

There is a good detail in the Dead Air campaign, on the airport when you kill some yellow staff zombies, some of them will make an static sound of zombie's grunts on they radio, i realized this today when playing singleplayer, after more than 600 hours
Squeaky noises are actually attached the other zombies like pipe. So bash them isn't the best option. And conversations are so well done that many of them you didn't hear because it depends on how many of them are alive. How many health they have and of course place and actual situation. There's so many details in this game. Still the best game ever made. Can't wait to play it on VR
Just played portal 2 for the first time, but played l4d2 back in the day heaps. Valve really knows how to make amazing games, such care goes into these when you listen to their commentary
Portal2 Co-Op at night with one of my best friends 12 years ago was one of the best gaming exps I ever had.. together with early DayZ Mod and CSS matches haha

I bought this game a decade ago, and it has been my most played game ever since a couple of days after that. I played with Ellis on at least 95% of the matches I've played, on the countless hours I have on this game... _...and I have _*_never_*_ heard _*_any_*_ of those healing lines before_ A game so old, played for so many hours, that still has new things to show, is nothing short of impressive
The entire skit with Jimmy Gibbs Jr. is so hysterically well-executed. The entire game you hear Coach and Ellis hail him as a legend and a hero, and it makes Ellis screaming "NOOOOOOOO" feel so genuine and full of agony at the realization that Jimmy Gibbs Jr. wasn't immune and he now has to kill his hero not just personally, but one he held on such a pedestal he would be depriving the entire country of a legend
I've been playing Left 4 Dead 2 for YEARS and there's always something new in store. Turns out, if Nick uses a medkit before the first room in Dead Center (and before anyone else) there's a chance the other survivors react to it if close enough to watch him. Specially Ellis, he goes like "ooh! So THAT'S how you use a medkit!", "I better watch you so I learn as well." Not sure if it works the other way round but Nick will point out he already knows what he's doing while using one, just like he does when he heals others.
In the parking car lot in the Parish, there’s a hidden dialogue when someone triggers the car alarm, then someone else triggers, then Nick triggers. At that point Nick will get frustrated and go “I will trigger one too, how about that?”
A trip down memory lane, all the voices, noises and sounds the zombies make is so nostalgic, wish I was a kid again experiencing these games for the first time again.
Honestly the only thing INSANE about any of these were noticing the clowns only have 1 clown shoe yet still make a squeak when walking on their barefoot.
To me the most INSANE thing is that you noticed the 1 shoe part but still somehow missed the fact that they only squeak that shoe and their bare foot makes no sounds
Out of this entire one I think learning that I can destroy tank rubble is the #2 coolest with number #1 being that charger animation with the ceiling . Bro may have one hand worthy of fighting but he’s giving you all of it

@@skiplet87 if people were actually given time to work on their fucking games and you know, DEVELOP THEM, then the modern AAA library of games wouldnt be as bad as it is. development of anything is always going to be circumstantial, but the fact that they're rushed to meet a deadline only a handful of people would complain about, is what throws a lot of those games into the diarrhea depths of shitty-ness.

Carnival. Also, spotting or killing Jimmy Gibbs Jr. brings out some dialogue from either Ellis or Coach, just like how Ellis was screaming earlier when you were shooting at him. Rochelle also has the most dialogue about knowing the special infected names too.
It actually makes sense that she would know the names because she was a news reporter.
that game was just bland, not great at all. the characters were anti-charismatic, the musics not genius , the guns have bad clunky animations , with their models seen over over instead of more original guns (from real life) , the graphics has aged badly... just like Fallout 4 , this game is 100% better with well-made mods. not any mods but still.

Left 4 Dead 2 remains one of my absolutely favorite games, it's amazing to see all the details placed into the world. Environmental storytelling, dialogue, etc. I love the dialogue of the characters

Growing up on the series since it first released, I was aware of everything except the squirt flowers on the infected clowns actually squirting out water.
That's a detail I've gone nearly a decade and a half never knowing about.

Played Dark Carnival recently and whenever you’re in the tunnel of love and callout a specific item that will be called by its name and not generalized like with primary weapons, Ellis will add a “…of love here.” At the end of the callout
Whats more interesting is ellis healing animation is different from the rest of the survivors. We can see that ellis is still more of a noob in using the first aid kit
Was that always there? Or was that a recent implimentation from the Last Stand Update or something? Because I definitely remember him using the normal animation back then.
@@SpearraPretty sure it's a recent addition, Coach and the female survivors all have their own self-healing animations also, and I believe there's new animations for healing while crouched
in l4d1 everyone has the same healing animation except zoe, which bites her bandage while wrapping it around and such
One completely underrated detail in both L4D and L4D2 is how realistic the sound design is, certain noises are not only loud in volume, but they also muffle lower, less loud sounds, helicopters engines are louder than your character's voice and infected but not louder than gunfire, fireworks in Dark Carnival are just as loud as gunfire and jet engines in The Parish completely muffle all noise when they pass.
Also unrelated to sound, depending on the distance you use "Look!" while looking at a character, they will scream their name, say it loud, or talk in a normal tone.

I think what i find impressive is that they made over thousand upon thousands of animations to shoot or melee the infected they all don’t die the same way but can get you some interesting or cool kills im not entirely too sure about the thousand animations but like one of the comments mentioned that these details are so small and some go unnoticed when its a fast paced experience but when you slow down you relized that the small details and many other cool hidden mechanics and details is what makes this game easily the best action zombie shooter to exist
Have the best memories playing this game. So many hours spent in lobbies waiting for vs mode.

Another cool little detail I suppose for the Dark Carnival final level is that if you're playing as Ellis, there's a chance he'd sing a Midnight Rider song if you stand in front of the mic on the stage.

To add to your Strength Affected by Health section, I am pretty sure the melee weapons also have different "strengths" you can view with the melee game. Guitar and axe I remember being very "heavy" and hitting high on the chart while say something like the sword/katana hit on the lighter side. I used to think that you had to pair the adrenaline and a heavy melee to ring and break the bell.
This is honestly why I come back to play this game over and over. These small and great details make it so much better

Professional coaches isn't really use them anymore, there's a specified people for first aid to injured players. So even if he was trained to use them, probably didn't used himself all that much

But certainly around the time i was fully commited to play it i would get kicked out of some room for breaking tank rocks at least once a day, of course there were also some people that would tell "everyone can do that" and vote no.
The older the game the "wisest" the playerbase becomes anyway.

I will never get tired of L4d2. I always loved it, but was a PlayStation player till I got my hands on it on Steam. You meet the best people, and the infinite modding will always keep this gem alive as well as its solid gamplay from bottom up.
Yessss, nothing beats playing modded campaigns with randoms, sometimes it feels like the beginning of dead center where the survivors slowly start to get to know each other

Coincidentally I saw Jimmy Gibbs Jr. yesterday playing L4D2. I was fighting off the hordes then there was this one zombie that stood out among the rest of them. I took a closer look and he was wearing the same suit just like the guy in the poster. I was like; "no way is that zombie jimmy?!" lol.

There is a good detail in the Dead Air campaign, on the airport when you kill some yellow staff zombies, some of them will make an static sound of zombie's grunts on they radio, i realized this today when playing singleplayer, after more than 600 hours

I bought this game a decade ago, and it has been my most played game ever since a couple of days after that. I played with Ellis on at least 95% of the matches I've played, on the countless hours I have on this game...

The entire skit with Jimmy Gibbs Jr. is so hysterically well-executed. The entire game you hear Coach and Ellis hail him as a legend and a hero, and it makes Ellis screaming "NOOOOOOOO" feel so genuine and full of agony at the realization that Jimmy Gibbs Jr. wasn't immune and he now has to kill his hero not just personally, but one he held on such a pedestal he would be depriving the entire country of a legend

I've been playing Left 4 Dead 2 for YEARS and there's always something new in store. Turns out, if Nick uses a medkit before the first room in Dead Center (and before anyone else) there's a chance the other survivors react to it if close enough to watch him. Specially Ellis, he goes like "ooh! So THAT'S how you use a medkit!", "I better watch you so I learn as well." Not sure if it works the other way round but Nick will point out he already knows what he's doing while using one, just like he does when he heals others.

A trip down memory lane, all the voices, noises and sounds the zombies make is so nostalgic, wish I was a kid again experiencing these games for the first time again.
Honestly the only thing INSANE about any of these were noticing the clowns only have 1 clown shoe yet still make a squeak when walking on their barefoot.
To me the most INSANE thing is that you noticed the 1 shoe part but still somehow missed the fact that they only squeak that shoe and their bare foot makes no sounds
