I love your cleaning videos, they are soo inspiring and I think it's because it's real life! A lot of us dont have new fancy kitchens so this is so encouraging! Thank you for sharing 😊
These videos are simply the BEST. Your home is just like mine…a real, older, not fancy, very well used, simple home. I can see how you do things, and I feel like I can have a clean home too even when it is not like a magazine photo. Thank you.
I’ve put newspaper on top of the cupboards to catch the majority of the grease/dirt then all you do is roll it up when you deep clean and and it’s usually just that little lip in the front that you end up having to clean👍
@Ruthannzimm you can use the disposable plastic cutting mats from the dollar store for the top of your refrigerator and aluminum foil for the tops of your cupboards to help make cleaning go faster. I always put off those areas because they take so much time and effort. You inspire me to do better. Thank you for sharing real life with us. I so much appreciate it. God bless you and your precious family 🙏♥️.
@Ruthannzimm Did you think, "Paint"? Pulling everything out to clean, paint and reorganize is my thinking here. This was over a year ago though, and I'm only 14:04 in so I don't know what you did. No sign of choosing to paint while you have everything out, clean and ready to put on a fresh coat.
Finally! A cleaning video where it actually needs cleaning. Thanks for sharing real life. I recently had new drawer fronts and doors installed along with new countertops. Looks like a brand new kitchen. The boxes were in good shape. You might look into that in your area. Saved thousands of dollars.
Oh! I so understand all you are going through! Good luck🤗 Great idea about the table cloth and getting rid of things no longer needed. Recycle, donate and getting the kids to help. I love your real life posts so much!
LOL...I have just now made a plan to clean the galley of the boat we live on! Thanks for the inspiration! One thing you can do when something no longer has a lid, like a water bottle is use it to hold pencils, pencil crayons, paint brushes for art supplies, etc. Then it doesn't go in the garbage but is repurposed.
I have always put news paper on the top of our cabinet’s and then I replace it every few months. It really cuts down on all the greasy dirt on the top of the cupboards. Much easier to replace the paper!
Just a note on cleaning the very top of cabinets; place wax paper or parchment paper down after cleaning. It traps dust & grease so next clean is so simple.
This is very encouraging for a mama of 7, but was never really taught how to properly clean. It's embarrassing to admit, but I really just spot clean because I didn't know there was another way. We live in parsonage with strange shaped cabinets and things are always getting cluttered. Now I'm making a plan to clean it better! Thank you. Also, your little boys face when you dumped the drawer was precious!
@@Ruthannzimm I lined my drawers with linoleum tiles. I used white marbleized with the least amount of texture I could find. They wiped clean and wore well.
Bless your heart Ruthann for showing everyone what spider and fly poop looks like. I bet many people have no idea what that stuff is but they'd sure clean it quick once they realize. Its often on windowsills too. Great clean-up!
Yes!! We recently moved into a house that had been foreclosed and abandoned. I thought I'd been cleaning up dead crickets and mold. Nope! Dead roaches and roach poop!! 😳🤢🤮🤮🤮🤷♀️😂😂😂
Mrs. Ruthann, from one Mama to another, I just wait say THANK YOU ❤, for being brave enuf to show the world how to clean. It amazes me how many young ppls today really have no idea how to do the deep work. I pray this is passed around & shared for all to see !!! Bless you dear sister in Jesus.
You are so encouraging. I grew up doing cleaning like this. Lol. Twice a year like you said. The beginning of lent and in October. Wish I still could do it. Getting older isn't fun with some things.
Just found you about a week ago and have been binging your videos since. You have a very calming nature. Thanks for inspiring me and even motivating me to get in that kitchen snd deep clean. I didn't grow up Amish but my family ancestry was in PA. My grandmother and Mom did the biannual deep Spring and Fall cleaning, too. It's a huge task, but very rewarding when done as you go into the next season. Thanks!
That's the way I used to clean, but at 75 I can't do that cleaning and have to rely on someone else to do it and people don't clean that way anymore. I applaud the effort you put into deep cleaning.
I used plain white terry cloth hand towels on top of my upper cupboards. You can gather them up, take them outside for a good shake, throw in the washing machine and bleach.
I love your cabinets just like they are. We call that 'loved'. They show the imperfections that come with use. I would not change them. People pay big money to replicate that look.🥰
Hello Ruth Ann, I encountered your channel about a year ago and have really enjoyed and learned a lot from you about canning. I usually do not comment but I had to tell you that you are a very hard working, no nonsense AMAZING woman, your channel is so real and resfreshing, to the core. I could not stop laughing at the reality of reactions from little ones at times when we want to engage them. Later in life they will truly cherish the teachings you give them, blessings to you and your beautiful family, thank you so much for all the lessons, truly appreciated.
I clean at this time of year as well. Right before I start seed starting. No time in spring, that’s gardening time. Not summer that’s heavy canning season, then you are on to fall garden. I do a good cleaning the end of October so I’m ready for decorating for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It feels good when everything is clean.
Your videos inspire me!! My mom never had me help around the house with deep cleaning so I really never did that!! Today I am deep cleaning, one room at a time! Longing to live a simplistic life, canning, growing my own food and getting away from all the preservatives in our foods!❤️❤️❤️❤️thank you thank you
What I do after cleaning on the top of the upper cupboards I put some newspaper so the next time I just remove the paper and put a new one, it saves me a lot of time and effort to clean up.
I like to line kitchen drawers and shelves with vinyl flooring, the thicker, no glue type. At the home improvement store, I buy the pre-packaged utility vinyl flooring rolls. I cut pieces to fit. They cushion the shelves, super easy to wipe down, and really last. This greatly protects under the sink from cleaner spills or if a drip develops. I can lift these liners out and wash them in the sink. And...they look great!
I used to clean apartments when tenants moved out. The greasy tops of kitchen and bathroom cupboards were the worst to clean, but I found that I could use long pieces of waxed paper (or aluminum foil or paper towelling) to line along the cupboard tops, so that the next time I had only to discard the old dirty waxed paper and put down new pieces. If necessary, I used some small pieces of tape to secure the strips. This also works well on the top of the fridge, etc.
I have a sign over our kitchen sink similar to yours;reads the same.I have started doing the same thing with my family in telling them where I put something because I will forget. That is a good idea in emptying the contents to the table or another area to help in deciding what goes back in and what can be donated instead of just trying to put everything back in, and, using the table cloth too; I will remember these two ideas! Harrison's expression when you dump out the big drawer of utensils 😀 Love the ending. Thank you for the great ideas to incorporate into my cleaning routines!
Do you possibly have a video on clothes cleaning? Specifically oil or grease on clothes or aprons. What you use and do to remove those tough spots? Thanks so much. I love all your videos. Thanks for sharing.
I second this! Dawn, baking soda paste, vinegar, a really good homemade laundry powder recipe...nothing I've tried works for grease or tomato. Grass, dirt, and blood I can get out with those things so at least there's that. But grease and tomato? Forget it.
Tip to keep the top of your top cupboards clean - place sheets of waxed paper over the tops. When it's time to clean just throw the waxed paper away and lay down fresh sheets.
thank you for you content. I enjoy you approach to life. As i watched your cleaning video and you started on the upper cabinets I thought of a tip I like. Put a layer of paper, newspaper, butcher paper, i.e. on top of the cabinet and all you have to do is fold it up when it comes time to clean. I love that all I have to do is fold it up and throw away all that dust, dirt and grim. Happy homesteading!
One thing that I personally find useful in my cleaning….chopsticks 😉….they are cheap and lots, especially when from a dollar store or clearance or?? They come in handy for short people (like me) when in a pinch I can’t move a heavy piece of kitchen appliances and I see grim….it goes into the thinnest crevices, you can use the pointy end to stab things you are not sure of and don’t want to touch….or things that get stuck and I can’t get or, move it or?? Plus all the cleaning, when making Carmel apples, it’s long enough for little ones to use or sitting on a lap but wants to be independent and hold it, I can guide from the bottom on where they should be holding it and “not” where they think it should be held😊 and learning boundaries or playing pirates you can use something to wrap around the pointy end for them to hold and not injure them or their playmates 😉 or even when helping pick up leaves….its long enough to help 👍…anyways, just a simple suggestion. I try to teach that one little item can become a multi use item if you use your imagination. 🤷♀️ Even can be used to plug a hole in a pinch!

We only have 3 boys & when they were young a friend stopped by the house one afternoon while I was deep cleaning & she asked me how the cabinets & & other surfaces got that dirty. I told it's because we are busy living in the house & cleaning is not as important as other things are.
Hi Ruth, I’m new to your channel and I absolutely love it 🥰 Tonight I started your water bath coleslaw recipe. All the veggies are ground up sliced and diced. I’m going to let them rest in the fridge overnight in the salt. I made a double batch. I know it’s going to taste delicious in the winter. After you get it all cleaned up get you some paint and repaint your cabinets you love them so much better, and if you so repaint use Semi gloss paint not flat flat wash it off when you wipe it down some glass you can keep it clean.
Use wax paper too line the top of your cupboard so next time you clean you can just throw paper a way with no hard scrubbing just a wipe down . I also use a square of poly to top my Refrigerator so its easy too clean. Lots of scrubbing happens in the kitchen everyday as you know so I try too make spring cleaning easy. You should consider Soft close/self Close cabinets and hinges. Blum soft-close hinges combine the best features of self-close and soft-close hinges for cabinets. These hinges use a hydraulic mechanism to gently guide the door through the arc of the swing and into contact with the cabinet frame. They make little to no sound, and thanks to precision engineering, it takes little to no pressure to get the door shut. My kids are in their forties now but I used to get more spoons at the flea marker because they always disappeared. The sandbox was one place and the tree house was another where I would find some.
Out of frustration in my house I packed away most of my cups and silverware and left out just a set per person. Because around here the men of the house would dirty every piece. Mom would rather wash four plates, bowls, glasses and spoons twice a day then a dozen each.
Good job! I hope you get a chance to paint or replace them one day. Painting them could be fun, especially if you pick a fun color! I don't know if I would replace them yet, still too many littles left around to destroy as they go.....🙃
@@katie7748 ? What's wrong with littles? Small children tear up homes unless you police them like crazy. I've had two of my own and now are working through nine grand children. So I know of what I speak. They "on accident" beat up stuff, scratch stuff, break stuff....
It’s amazing how we can start out with a clean and organized kitchen and 12 months later it feels like it’s in complete shambles. 😂 Who are the dirty people messing up my house??
I thought I done a great job on cabinets last week when deep cleaning...this week the light was just right and I saw the dirt on the inside of those wood doors...argh! 🤣
I agree. I have no exhaust in my kitchen. I've been baking it for years now. Works great and not much smell. Line a baking tray with foil bake at 350 for 25 minutes or so. Pour the grease in a jar to use. Throw away the foil. Easy clean up.
You should consider chalk paint with a wax finish to renew your cabinets. Love your videos. It teaches a lot of skills most women don't get these days.
The top of that cabinet is why I simply canNOT condone the notion of open shelving. Ack!! I've seen how gross the decorative items on top of my kitchen cabinets get after just 3mo...why would I keep dishes, pots n pans, etc in the open like that? To each their own but yuck!
I love your cleaning videos, they are soo inspiring and I think it's because it's real life! A lot of us dont have new fancy kitchens so this is so encouraging! Thank you for sharing 😊

Good job! I hope you get a chance to paint or replace them one day. Painting them could be fun, especially if you pick a fun color! I don't know if I would replace them yet, still too many littles left around to destroy as they go.....🙃
Might want to look into what you're saying when you refer to children as the L word 🤢
@@katie7748 ? What's wrong with littles? Small children tear up homes unless you police them like crazy. I've had two of my own and now are working through nine grand children. So I know of what I speak. They "on accident" beat up stuff, scratch stuff, break stuff....
Thank you thank you. Really has me motivated.❤
If you line the top of cabinets over stove with parchment paper next time you clean you can just pick up paper and throw grease and dust away.
It’s amazing how we can start out with a clean and organized kitchen and 12 months later it feels like it’s in complete shambles. 😂 Who are the dirty people messing up my house??
Gremlins! They are EVERYWHERE!!!!!😛
Ruthann, you need to bake a cake for the family to celebrate the kitchen deep clean. 21:50
I thought I done a great job on cabinets last week when deep cleaning...this week the light was just right and I saw the dirt on the inside of those wood doors...argh! 🤣
Nothing like sunshine to show where the dirt really is.
Try baking your bacon it REALLY cuts down on the grease.
I agree. I have no exhaust in my kitchen. I've been baking it for years now. Works great and not much smell. Line a baking tray with foil bake at 350 for 25 minutes or so. Pour the grease in a jar to use. Throw away the foil. Easy clean up.
Yes!!! And it's so wonderfully crispy that way! Moreso than frying, in my experience.
Buy an expandable Bamboo utensil holder and use it long ways in that pull out shelve instead of straight in and you will be pleased .
That’s a great idea.
Any chance you could link your utensil organizer
It was thrifted 🫣
You should consider chalk paint with a wax finish to renew your cabinets. Love your videos. It teaches a lot of skills most women don't get these days.
Please everyone be careful standing on countertops to clean upper cabinets. I just fell off mine last week and fractured a rib.
Yes, I'm glad she was wearing shoes.
Those look like really sturdily built cabinets; they don't make they like that anymore or they would be super expensive.
You do a good job, but y don't you get paint and repaint while everything is clean.
🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️
Hmm....what am I doing now 🤔
WOW I don’t like the spell check thing lol
You have beautiful wood under that white paint. I would strip the paint off completely.
The top of that cabinet is why I simply canNOT condone the notion of open shelving. Ack!! I've seen how gross the decorative items on top of my kitchen cabinets get after just 3mo...why would I keep dishes, pots n pans, etc in the open like that? To each their own but yuck!
